INTRODUCTION THE HALLOWED HALLS. The first, and so far, only, institution of its kind in Panymium, Trisica University is a jewel in the Imisese crown, a pillar of knowledge and modernity nestled in the capital city of Gadu. Founded under the wing of the Panymisian Church, the echoes of religious architecture in the building's construction can clearly be seen in the cloistered walkways and romanesque arches that shelter its students throughout the semester. The University remains a staunchly Panymisian institution, though Obscuvian alumni, such as Doctor Adlam, have been educated in its hallowed halls, and many of its theologians no longer see eye to eye with the dogma of the Panymisian Church. Trisica's strongest curriculum is in theology, but the University has innovated in each of the fields that it offers, and its most quickly developing subject is, of course, Plagueology. Built to forge a future while remaining faithful to the traditions of the past, the University does not just raise future Councilmen, but nurtures both the sons and daughters of their noble patrons and the best and brightest from all social classes for every sort of educated career available to Panymese society. With more and more students enrolling in order to pursue truth, and not just to get an education before inheriting their noble titles, Trisica aims to provide the leaders, and hopefully, the saviours of this pestilence-ridden society.

DISCIPLINES THE FOUNDATIONS OF CULTURE Trisica divides its curricula into eight pillars, from which all higher truth can be derived. These pillars are theology, rhetoric, philosophy, logic, literature, science, magic, and history. It is mandatory for students to take courses in theology, rhetoric, philosophy, literature, and history for their first year, to both train them to think and ensure that they can argue eloquently. These classes are most useful for many children of nobility who come to Trisica merely to be "finished". By their second year, however, students are allowed to focus in a specific discipline, and while some continue a general course of studies and sample different fields, by the beginning of their third year, all students have a focus to pursue. For some, this will be the first step to a career in academia, while for others it will give them a unique and informed approach to a different career path, either inherited or of their own design. Each discipline has its own representative colour associated with it, which will be present in the robes of professors and the dress attire of students in that discipline.
THEOLOGY ; DOCTOR JULIAN REMYS Dealing with not just the study of Panymisian doctrine and dogma, but rather, all known religions, including the fledgling faith of Obscuvianism, the theology department is the pride of Trisica. Though decidedly Panymisian-leaning in course material, sometimes overtly so, Trisica's theology students are for the most part decidedly more radical in their interpretation of doctrine than the conservative core of the Panymisian church. Still, many Panymisian monks and priests are sent to this department for training to aid their eventual advancement in the church, and many of the more conservative of these bristle at the young theological scholars who are beginning to try to explain doctrine that some argue is intended to mystify. Doctor Remys, current head of the theology department, is a more liberal theologian than some bishops would like, and under her guidance, theological debate at Trisica has flourished. Many students of theology at Trisica have gone on to become high ranking church officials, politicians, renowned scholars, and even infamous heretics.
RHETORIC ; DOCTOR CHRISTINE ROVARINI The study of rhetoric is the study of language and debate. Students are expected to learn Ardenian, the language of debate, and the various structures of arguments. They must learn to identify logical fallacies and to use different argumental structures to debate every manner of issue, both earthly and heavenly, regardless of whether the point they are arguing is one which they agree with. Students must learn the art of debate, and thus, their grades are more heavily weighted on their use of the correct argument structures than the content of their arguments for the first year. At the upper level, students must also become well versed in Imisese and Panymese law, and this degree is the first step of the career of many politicians and judicial dignitaries, but has also produced philosophers, religious officials, scholars, merchants, scribes, and canny noble heirs. The department head, Doctor Rovarini, is herself famed for her sharp wit, acerbic tongue, and vicious debates with many male scholars on the role of women both at Trisica and in academia as a whole.
PHILOSOPHY ; DOCTOR BERNARD SMITH Does the body rule the mind or does the mind rule the body? Students of philosophy will examine the human condition, as well as the nature of the soul and man. They will read the works of ancient Ecaran philosophers and learn to use their theories to form and supplement their own. They will be made to both defend and challenge each theory and the skills they learned in their rhetoric classes will be essential to their success in this degree, to the point where the two disciplines often go hand in hand. The philosophy course at Trisica has produced many adept scholars, theologians, mystics, and politicians, and the head of the department, Doctor Smith, is a traditionalist Panymisian whose arguments against Scholastic theologians have masterfully incorporated philosophical theories from pre-Panymisian times to support the essential mysticism of Panymisian doctrine.
LOGIC ; DOCTOR AUGUSTUS PALLANE Logic, the study of mathematics, can claim amongst its members both Sir Erasmus and Dean Kirkaldy himself, though the Dean has little time for lectures any longer. The current head of the department, Doctor Pallane, has little trouble recruiting students, for many wealthy merchants, nobles, and those aspiring to administrative governmental office have found a strong grasp of logic essential for business. However, the department can also claim its share of scholars, who constantly seek to expand the borders of mathematical knowledge and theory, or else see the use of a mastery of mathematics in order to pursue science more keenly than their peers. In a world that often seems driven by random chaos with the onset of the Plague and political upheaval of the early 15th century, logic provides a haven of reason and order.
LITERATURE ; DOCTOR COLUM Ó CONGHAILE The study of literature in Panymium is closely associated with both that of theology and that of history. In fact, the line between literature and history is often difficult to discern. In literature studies, students are expected to read and analyze the canon of Panymese and foreign epics that constitute the cultural currency of the literary elite. They are expected to be able to make connections between these works and to cite and refer to them in their own works. Emphasis is also placed on various languages and translation of foreign works into Ardenian and Panymese tongues. The department head, Doctor Ó Conghaile, is a poet who writes in the vernacular of a pre-Panymese people who inhabited the landmass of Panymium, as well as in Ardenian, and adapts various pagan mythologies into Panymisian saint stories. Literature students can expect to control a large amount of cultural currency, and find jobs in prestigious courts as chroniclers, storytellers, scribes, translators, and, of course, scholars. Noble students also enjoy the literature degree because of the subject matter, which often pertains to their own family mythologies.
SCIENCE ; DOCTOR MUFLIT IBN-MUNQIDH Science is obviously the fastest growing department in Trisica, and its population has exploded since the death of Diefendorf and the rise of the plague. Diefendorf himself was an alumni of the science degree at Trisica, as well as the notorious head of the Obscuvians' scientific endeavours, Doctor Adlam. The current department head, Doctor Muflit Ibn-Munqidh, is a reticent but canny figurehead, who has pursued biology as opposed to Plagueology, more concerned with curing humans than examining the strange humanoid mutations of the deadly disease. Science has a plethora of branches to pursue within it, and while Plagueology is the most popular, there is plenty of room for scientific advancement in any vein a student might wish to pursue, as well as many professors in every discipline to guide them. Those who pursue science often end up as Councilmen themselves, or even professors at Trisica, although it is known that the House seeks more scientists for their own devices.
MAGIC ; DOCTOR BURCHARD SPRENGER Magic is a somewhat surprising discipline for many, considering that the Fellowship tends to raise its own. However, science has always been a continuation of the advancements afforded by magic, and Trisica is very much the natural evolution of the culture that magic fostered in Panymium. Science and magic go hand in hand, and at Trisica, many future Fellowship members get an education. While you don't need magical talent to pursue a degree in magical theory, for the classes that deal with practice, such as alchemy, some aptitude is required. Those who have a degree in the field can expect to join the Fellowship, to practice magical trades, such as the apothecary business, the alchemical arts, or can try to innovate in the field by combining science and magic for exciting results. The department head, Doctor Sprenger, is an enthusiastic supporter of the union of science and magic, and is currently working in alchemic chemistry.
HISTORY ; DOCTOR GREGORY FROISSART The pursuit of history is the most noble and best pursuit in the world, say some completely unbiased sources. However, history in Panymium goes hand in hand with mythology and literature, and it's difficult to discern fact from fiction, not that anybody is trying particularly hard to do so. History examines the Panymese identity and the known world, referring often to compendiums written long ago by both Panymese and ancient Ecaran travelers and scholars. It examines kingship, dynasties, conflicts, and victories, and much of the curriculum is influenced by Emperor Rine's government. The head of the history department, Doctor Froissart, was once a high ranking official in Helios, but has since retired to teach at Trisica. Graduates with a history degree can look forward to a career in politics or scholarship or literature, as court historians, chroniclers, or military officers, or perhaps can look forward to parting with a better idea of their noble roots or a culture they wish to trade with.

ADMITTANCE BY BLOOD, BY GOLD, BY FAITH, BY WIT, BY PLAGUE Admittance into the University can be accomplished by any of four methods. The reckoned slang for these methods is "Blood, gold, faith, wit," and while it's coarse, it basically summarizes the methods by which a student may be chosen to join Trisica's elite student body. However, since the dawn of the 15th century, a fifth category should perhaps be added to the epithet, to wit, "Plague".
BLOOD ; THOSE OF RICH HERITAGE Those of noble heritage or with familial ties to Trisica University are often accepted as legacy students, or as a way of keeping noble patrons content and happy to support the school. These students often range in ability and ambition, some merely content to pursue an education until they might inherit a title, some forced to seek some other means of employment as second sons overshadowed by older heirs to their family's lands and titles, some choosing to reject the life of a lord in favour of the pursuit of knowledge, some wishing to further expand their family's fortunes through new enterprises. In the early years of the University's history, these students made up a large portion of the student body, and though their role has somewhat diminshed, they still loom large in the University's enrollments process.
GOLD ; THOSE OF RICH PROSPECTS With the rise of trade guilds and a healthy merchant class, more students have been enrolled as a favour to wealthy patrons. High-ranking guildsmen who have aspirations to imitate nobility or better the family line often send their children to Trisica, while the children themselves often return from Trisica with skills that they can apply to better the family trade or make themselves into better marital prospects for low ranking nobles. Whether these students are relations to patrons, or even patrons themselves, they are essential in securing extra-governmental funding for both Trisica and the Council.
FAITH ; THOSE OF RICH PIETY The Panymisian church's heavy involvement in Trisica University's founding has traditionally ensured ample placement for young monks and priests to be educated in theology, rhetoric, and philosophy. Many high ranking religious officials, both in orders and laymen, have received training at Trisica, and some of the most contentious radicals, as well as the most careful stalwarts first faced off in one of Trisica's cloistered lecture halls. The Obscuvian church holds no such privilege, however, and Obscuvians must pay dearly for the elite education that the fledgling faithful of Panymisian obtain with relative ease.
WIT ; THOSE OF RICH FACULTIES For students who do not quite fit into any such category as those above but still find that their minds are sharper than those of their peers, there is yet hope. Grants and scholarships are given to underprivileged students through an applications panel, and if the student can impress the panel through a series of tests and interviews, they may be granted a scholarship to learn at Trisica. There will still be expenses involved for even the most talented student, however, and so students who must rely on scholarships often take longer than the typical four years to complete a degree, having to earn a living on top of pursuing classes. However, once their degree is earned, they supposedly have the same privileges within the Council as the most noble Councilman. This is mostly just idealistic hot air, blood being thicker than water, but Doctor Kempe, the current Council Representative, is a former scholarship student, so prestige isn't impossible to attain with hard work and careful networking.
PLAGUE ; THOSE OF CURSED BURDEN The Council has recently found it necessary to collect as many Grimms to its ranks as it can, as Plagues are so invaluable to their scientists' research. Since factions are competing for Grimms, and Plagues themselves are so rare, the Council cannot afford to be picky about which Grimms it accepts, leading to its absorption of many relatively uneducated new Councilmen. To train these Grimms as quickly as possible and make better use of them, the Council has devised intensive programs so that Grimms might get a crash course in the subject of their interest and further Plague studies in that field. Most Grimms are encouraged to pursue science, but Grimms may also choose different courses with relatively little resistance, especially if the Grimm has blood, faith, or gold working in their favour.

STUDENT BODY A STRONG BODY MADE OF WILLING MINDS. The student body at Trisica University is not just a school, but a community, and thus, has the resources of a community available to itself, which students can avail themselves of at their discretion. The services which Trisica offers its students, and the student organizations that have formed within the student body are listed below. SERVICES ACCOMMODATIONS ; DORMITORIES AND APARTMENTS Lodging in Trisica is not guaranteed, since many of the students already have homes or lodging in Gadu. There are spartan dormitories within the University, which resemble the sort of quarters one might find in a monastery, these are usually reserved for students whose application has been pushed through by the Panymisian church. Some scholarship students might also lodge here, but no women are allowed. A few inns and landlords in Gadu have arrangements with the University to provide preferential deals for students, but these establishments are hardly comfortable, and many students seek to find lodging for themselves. Some might live with their family, some might try to find a wealthy patron, and some might try to find employment which provides lodging, but student accommodation provided by the University is hardly luxurious.
NECESSITIES ; FOOD AND DRINK Trisica University does provide banquets on holy days and feast days, which all students are invited to attend. Students who live at the University are also provided with meals three times a day, and all students who take full time courses are provided with luncheon in the refectory, another building that draws close parallels to the refectory that you might find in a monastery. Much like monastic meals, the meals at Trisica are expected to be eaten in silence, while a moral lesson or scripture is read aloud. Thus, students have come up with makeshift sign language to communicate during meals, and subsequently during dull lectures, some of the signs are quite rude.
SUPPORT ; COUNSELING, RELIGIOUS SERVICES, AND FIRST AID Trisica provides various practical support services, first and foremost being spiritual aid, as a Panymisian institution. Student chaplains are on campus, willing to listen to the spiritual troubles of students and give them advice, as well as lead them in prayer during religious services. Services are provided following a normal Panymisian liturgical schedule, but students of different faiths are expected to cater to their religious needs privately. Father Elias Henteloue, one of the Panymisian chaplains on staff, however, is well versed in many faiths, and always willing to lend a sympathetic ear to students of any religious affiliation.
Academic counseling is provided by mentors, who students may approach independently, or have assigned to them once they select a department to pursue their studies in. Department heads tend to select their own advisees rather than accept requests from students, but other professors and doctors within each discipline are generally more approachable for such requests.
Emotional counseling may also be provided in wake of the ravages of the Black Death on peoples' mental as well as physical well-being. Doctor Amory Kempe's less-than-legitimate field of Psychology has trained a few recruits who are able to provide counseling to students, and although none are hired for this task in an official capacity by the University, many do it anyway alongside, or as part of, their research. Doctor Kempe himself has been known to take a few appointments, but less now that he has been made Council Representative.
First aid is provided by a staff of medical doctors on hand at Trisica, and checkups are both mandatory and regular due to fear of Plague outbreaks. There are several Locos on hand to cure any student lest they cause an outbreak in the student body. However, the medical services tend to be lax when not dealing with potentially contagious diseases. SOCIETIES STUDENT UNIONS ; INVOLVE ONESELF IN ADMINISTRATION Student unions petition to change or preserve policies at Trisica, as well as in the city of Gadu, and can often be belligerent forces of change. Unions have been known to get rowdy and riot in the past, but by and large have been subdued since Plague has struck Imisus and Trisica has tightened its disciplinary policies.
SPORTING CLUBS ; NOBLE PURSUITS Noble children who wish to keep their skills sharp may form clubs to foray from Gadu into the countryside to hunt in fair weather, and play board games such as chess in bad weather. This is also a way to forge connections and get a sense of each others' intellectual, strategic, and physical capacities for noble children, much like the opportunities provided by fosterage, only with a wider array of acquaintances. Some poorer students might well be able to find an afternoon's employment aiding noble students in these clubs in a hunt or serving them refreshment. In the spring and summer, these clubs have also been known to sign up as teams for tournaments hosted by local lords.
GUILDSMEN'S CLUBS ; CLASS LOYALTY The sons and daughters of tradesmen can band together and make connections of their own, hosting meals and events which display all of their hereditary trades, much like morality plays might show off the works of carpenters, tailors, and the like. A sense of class loyalty forms strong bonds that might not be formed otherwise between members of rival guilds and separate crafts.
DEBATE SOCIETIES ; ARGUE DRUNK Debate societies allow students to continue to argue what they've learned in class, as well as cross-fertilize their ideas with other students in other disciplines. Debates have been known to get heated, however, and sometimes to even cause physical fights. Many scholarly enmities have been formed in debate societies, as well as some famous alliances, and debate societies are societies which transcend class and circumstance within the student body.

BENEFITS THE PRIVILEGE OF EDUCATION. A Trisica education provides not just knowledge, but employment opportunities, useful skills, and valuable social connections. Trisica degreeholders are all eligible to be Councilmen, whether or not they actively play a role in the Council, even if they join another faction. This gives them access to the Council's resources across Panymium, including research facilities, libraries, and hospitals, although there are still some areas which are restricted to certain clearance levels within the Council. They also get preferential treatment for their heirs when it comes to University applications, and, in the case of Grimms, they will gain a better understanding of both their Plague and access to a network of individuals skilled in dealing with the plague and Plagueology.
