He pulled up in front of the candy store with a sign, he hated split shifts but there wasn’t much to be done for it. Daphne had plans and he wanted to let her have that time to have fun after the long period of ‘gloomy girl’ he’d just helped work her out of. The Moped choked its way, limping into the parking space as he cursed its general existence and practicality at the same time.

He kicked down the kickstand to make sure it didn’t fall over in an undignified pile of would be scrap and stared for a moment at the cracked leather seat, the filthy milk crate held on by bungee cords and the chipped black paint, half original, but sun faded and about half something matte black out of a spray can. Someday he was going to have to get a loan and get something more reliable. Yes he’d gotten it cheep but the reason was showing with every little repair he needed to have done.

He heard the motorbike slowing behind him and turned to look to see. It was beautiful, a burnt orange and black muscular thing. Envy? Oh yes, quite a bit of that…

As the bike pulled into a parking space, a booted foot hit the pavement, the rider reaching up to pull the helmet from their head and revealing short, blonde hair, piercings, and... A wide, familiar grin. Tousling her hair with a hand, Kess was clearly in a good mood, expression brightening as her dark eyes met honey brown through the glass window front. A glance around as she killed the motor and she noticed the only other person in the immediate vicinity.

If it was possible, her wolfish grin grew, her tone friendly as she greeted him, "Zac!" She was impressed with herself for using his civilian name. Apparently, he wasn't going to be able to escape her attention. Dropping her kickstand, she leaned across the small gab between their respective "bikes," and extended a gloved hand in a combination shake/fist pound that probably left the blue-haired fellow slightly disconcerted.

"Nice ride, bro." Kess was, to say the least, less reserved when out of uniform.

“Thank you… Your’s is, pretty awesome.” he said after a moment’s hesitation and an overlong stare, studying her face for some hidden clue he didn’t seem to find. She looked like she was in a good mood, but looks could be deceiving, if she was here, if she’d taken the time to track down the actual candy shop that he worked in then something might be wrong that she couldn’t let show on her face in general public. He reached a cautious hand to return the ‘pound’ she was offering. “Is everything alright?” He asked after a glance up and down the sidewalk in front of the store.

“Nothing happened right? Did I give you the number for the track phone I keep for uh... ‘Business’?” He asked in a rush of questions as even more flickered and danced behind bright blue eyes.

As poor Zac Bantock stared at one of his officers in disguise, there was still one player on the stage who was blissfully unaware of the fact that she was surrounded by frenemies. You know, friendly enemies? Zink never would have hurt a hair on her head whether it were her civilian self or her powered self. Kess had all kinds of interests in her civilian self and had never met Lina Knight. Thankfully.

So when the bell attached to the front door chimed and Daphne came all but dancing out of the door with her bag in hand, it was just a little amusing to watch. What was surprising was the fact that she was not wearing grey, navy, or lavender as her primary color. Oh no, she was wearing yellow, and not just any yellow. It was a buttercup color that looked very much like sunshine had decided that today it was going to be a full-skirted affair with a delightful cardigan to keep her warm.

Zac had made her promise to live, Kess had made good on it.

"Thank God you're here. I was going to stuff that last brat head-first into the display case and leave him there screaming. His mother just let him run wild like she didn't even know she had a child. Hey Kess~!" Moving as far away from her job as possible, Daphne reached out to enclose the blonde in a friendly hug, before turning back. "Really, you're my hero, thanks so much."

"Naw, I'm just here to-" The blonde was cut off by Daphne, who promptly began to spill forth the frustrations of her day. Kess didn't mind, she was too busy enjoying the contrast of her hair with her dress. There was just something about girls in sundresses that made her insides feel all kinds of funny.

They share a quick, familiar squeeze, during which Kess took the opportunity to privately mumble something along the playful lines of "Damn, girl." Shifting to lean around the bluenette she caught Zac's pale blue eyes with a conspiratorial grin.

"Yeah, Zac. Now I have to take this one," She jerked a gloved thumb toward the cheerful girl, her tone teasing, "to lunch, and it's all your fault."

So much for a Negaverse emergency.

Zac blinked rapidly, processing the scene before him. Kess, Howlite, and Daphne… flirting, oh… my…god. He opened his mouth to say something and closed it again, blinked once more and then finally managed to squeeze out a few words from the shocked mess that was his brain. Not ‘Business’, pleasure as it were. “Ah, Oh… ah, hm!” He stammered collecting himself. “Well that’s hardly a fate worse than death.” He said forcing a sort of shocky smile onto his face.

“Have you, known each other long?” He said glancing between them wide eyed. Yes, yes he should be in opening the other register, but he couldn’t quite seem to get his feet to move yet, though he very much was willing them to bear him away from the awkward moment of realizing that two people you knew, in turn knew each other. Tack onto that that what his imagination was trying to do with little comments like ‘Damn Girl’.

In a slightly, somewhat ironically hypocritical move, Daphne couldn't help but laugh at the look on Zac's face. She couldn't entirely tell if it was because he was used to her being interested in guys, not girls, or if it was something else...hm. "Do you know Kess? Sounds like it." Duh, she'd called him by name. "Did I mention she was the one who came in, looking for a gift, and then just had me wrap up my favorites for me? It was super slick, right before Christmas?" The look aimed at Kess was questioning about the date, if nothing else.

"Anyway we've been texting and hanging out, just good buddies." Who happened to flirt like breathing and okay Kess had kissed her but the ball was still in her court. For now. The quick squeeze and murmured compliment was doing wonders for her confidence if nothing else. "Secretly though, I'm using her. I like your scooter but Kess' bike just...does things for me." Again that breathy, dramatic voice, a seductive look back towards the Judge.

"Can you blame me?"

Perhaps it was because of also knowing Zac as Zink, her superior officer, that the blonde was able to contain her laughter, instead settling for a crooked sort of grin, as Daphne explained the non-specifics of their friendship.

"Zac 'n I go to the same gym," she supplied helpfully, following with, "He doesn't drive the scooter there." Which was, to be sure, a disappointment. Kess rather liked the beat up thing.

"It's true," Kess agreed, trying and failing to look forlorn. "I'm a total tool." She shook her head, once, patting the round headlight. "I try to keep these two apart, but it just pushes them together."

She shrugged, obviously not too upset about the clandestine relationship between bike and girl.

“I just wasn’t…ah, expecting her to like what you keep under your hood.” He said and turned a rather amazing shade of pink. “I should open the store maybe.” He added hastily hoping that he didn’t just put himself into deep trouble by making comments about their flirtations.

“Gym…yeah, She kicks my a** and enjoys every minute of it, but it’s a good exercise and all that. But that’s just because she’s been doing it longer. I bet I could beat her on a good run though.”

Daphne almost opened her mouth to say that she had a large bet she could take them both before catching herself and simply shifting in another direction. Granted even in her civilian form Daph had always been a bit of a runner but Kess looked in shape and somehow she just thought Zac might actually hurt himself.

She had met him shoved in a closet, after all.

Instead she chose a comment that would probably make Kess choke with laughter while Zac choked on his tongue. The bluenette raised a slim eyebrow at him, folded her arms, and spoke with incredibly precise enunciation so no one could misunderstand her. "Sticks and stones are well and good, but curves and tits excite me." Her grin, when it came, was about as innocent and s**t-eating as it could possibly get.

"Maybe I should join you guys one day. I'm a bit out of shape." For an ageless magical warrior, maybe.

The freckled girl did well enough swallowing her urge to laugh, letting it trickle out in her verbal response. Despite the way it made her jaw ache with repressed snickering, she managed to keep some semblance of control.

"I'd hate to shame you both with this bod of mine," which wasn't completely a lie [the truth was that she wouldn't mind shaming them, at all, though an appreciative eye to Daphne's figure said there wouldn't be much shame occuring. It'd probably all be contained in Zac, who would be horrified to be comparing bodies]. Kess had been a "tomboy" all her life, which had naturally led to being an athlete, and then a fighter. While the lanky girl wasn't particularly bulky, what she did have was impressive enough.

Of course, Zac and Kess primarily sparred as Zink and Howl, and that wasn't exactly something either of them wanted to introduce Daphne to. Still, the gym meant gym clothes, and the blonde wasn't opposed to running into the bluenette in the locker rooms...

"But, you know me, Daph. Any time you're down to work up a sweat, you just let me know."

“RIGHT, so I’m going to make sure you didn’t leave the double boiler on.” Zac said suddenly looking like he wanted to choke on nothing more than air as the conversation took a nosedive into flirtations. Especially after the sticks and stones comments, he’d looked apt to swallow his own tongue when that particular sentiment had been expressed.

He backed towards the shop door and fumbled to grab the wide metal handle. “Nice um, seeing you both, have a good lunch, try not to get into TOO much trouble and uh, please return Daphne in one piece she’s the only decent employee in this place.” He stammered as he yanked the door open.

Yes it had been his fault with the ‘under the hood’ comment, and yes he should have known that Kess would continue that train of thought, but somehow he still couldn’t come to rationalize that Daphne would behave the same if not more so.

"Boiler is off but something sure is simmering." A good deal of what was going back and forth had at least a little dose of 'not all that serious' tucked somewhere in it. Yes, Kess would probably be thrilled to just hop into bed with Daphne but neither of them seemed overly keen to push into the other's space. They weren't rushing towards anything just enjoying each other's company, being friends, that sort of thing. Flirting, anything that might go with it, all a side benefit.

Messing with Zac was a bit too fun though, it was just one of those things Daph hadn't ever really been able to resist. She always made up for it though, feeding him as often as she could afford to.

"He's really sweet." The comment was broken up by laughter at his retreating back. "I take advantage of the poor guy all the time but he's such a sweetie." Looking from the bike, to Kess, and down at her skirt she sighed. "I think you're going to have to deal with a lot of bare leg on either side of you today. Try not to be too disappointed."

"'Bye, Zac!" Kess sent him off with a salute from two gloved fingers, wonder what, exactly, he'd have to say when she showed up in his office for their weekly meeting. If the dark color of his cheeks meant anything, he wouldn't say much at all. Poor fellow. It was almost nice, in a way, to see him so flustered, as he hid himself behind his mask all too well.

"I'll manage," The blonde drawled, reaching back to pat the seat behind herself as Zac disappeared inside of the store, probably doing his best not to blatantly stare at them through the window.

'Daphne's' helmet was waiting for her on the back of the bike, and Kess lightly knocked on it once it was secured to the girl's head, offering her a lopsided grin. "Yellow's my favorite color." Slipping on her own helmet, she backed the bike out of the space and headed for Downtown DC.

Daphne couldn't help but squeeze Kess just once and drop her voice into something that was clearly suggestive, and clearly something that wouldn't sound right if heard by anyone else. "I'll remember that. I'm sure I can find something interesting in yellow." Then she laughed with a bit of a shriek on the end of it as the engine was revved in reply to her, carrying the pair off to a friendly, laugh-filled lunch.

It was good for her to have a reason to get away, to get out, to go somewhere and just laugh. Kess and Daphne's insane, almost competitive flirting almost always made one of them dissolve into laughter, the other doing something to then catch the other and make them laugh. The pair got more than a few stares but it was worth it.

Plus like hell the bluenette cared what anyone thought of her. She'd given up on that a very long time ago.

The bell chimed over the store an hour later as Daphne breezed back in on buttercup yellow flats, a bounce in her step and a blonde at her heels. "Honey, I'm home!" Her voice was a sing-song testament to the fun they'd had out and the fact that teasing Zac was probably one of the activities she lived for now. Leaning on the counter she gave him soulful eyes.

"Did you live without me? Please, be honest."
