It was actually pretty rare that Tambrey found herself bored- there was always something to do, after all; reading, the little tasks in the labs, training, tidying the dorm, games, TV or a fair few other things she could think of, but nothing was appealing today. Well, nothing but the TV... except that all she could find playing was a rerun of a contest she'd already seen. The grunt was off-duty, and attired casually. Her boredom had also led her to position oddly while she watched TV. A worn copy of 'The Houndoom of the Baskervilles' sat atop her shoes on the floor, while Tam's legs hooked over the back of the sofa- she was positioned with her back on the cushions, more or less upside-down while she watched a slightly pixelated Phanpy roll across the screen, accompanied by a glittering ice ball attack courtesy of her partner, a jolly-looking Spheal. The ice shattered into colourful light-catching fragments, providing the televised arena with a shower of sparkly glitter. The effect was somewhat lost on the slightly fuzzy television screen, but Tambrey smiled anyway. She seemed to be mouthing along to the commentator as she watched the (from her point of view) upside-down picture.
<<".. And with that combination, it looks like this relative newcomer will going through to the next round of contests! This is certainly a trainer, and pokemon, to keep an eye on..!">>

There was a contest playing on the television, one that the young boy hadn't seen yet. He hadn't had the chance to watch many shows since coming here, since becoming a rocket; there had just been so much to learn and do. Training didn't exactly lend itself to free time, and now that he had a minute to himself, he saw no reason why he shouldn't indulge himself. Especially since he had been a coordinator himself. It was always good to keep up with what was happening on the outside.
There were a pair of legs hanging off the back of the couch, and Ra looked at them curiously before making his way over to it. That was a really odd way to sit, and he couldn't resist his curiosity. "Why are you upside down?"

"Waa!" The girl certainly hadn't noticed anyone else in the room until now and she found herself scrambling back upright rather suddenly, though she wasn't entirely sure /why/ being upright would make the situation too much better. In fact the sudden movement really just made her a little bit dizzy. Hrm. She'd been startled- become too much engrossed in the show, even with having seen it before- and now found herself staring slightly, faltering at answering what was, in all honesty, a straight forward and simple question. Blink. Stare. "Uh." Nope, not even technically a word. She made a point of pushing her glasses back on properly and reconsidered the question. "I, uh, got bored... Just sort of ended up like that." She regarded the young male in front of her from her position, now kneeling on the seat cushions. "Sorry for the... weird reaction. Just... got caught up in the old show- missed you coming in..." She explained. "Gave me a little bit of a startle."
The contest show continued to play in the background, focusing on the next scores for a moment before the screen changed to show another competitor group; the fuzzy image of a Lopunny and Venomoth pair and their trainer represented by a trainer-shaped group of pixels behind them.

Boy, was she jumpy.
He hadn't meant to startle her, or even make her move from the position she was currently in, he had just wanted to know why.
"Oh." Well, that made sense. Boredom was a great excuse for everything. "Sorry?" He wasn't really sure if he had something to apologize for or not, but he did it anyways. Better to be safe than sorry. "Do you mind if I watch with you? I miss watching these shows."

The grunt watched the other for his reaction to her reasons for being upside down and then her apology for the somewhat jumpy reaction; she found herself just a tiny bit pleasantly surprised when he apologized for making her jump.
"It's fine, 's a reminder for me to, um, keep an eye on my surroundings a little more." She holds up a hand with the aim of reassuring it was fine; it was true that technically he probably didn't need to apologize, but she certainly appreciated the politeness.
As he asked about sitting and watching the show, Tambrey once more gave a little expression of surprise, but nodded. "Sure. I don' mind. Just let me move my stuff and scoot along a bit." She said, reaching down to move the few things on the floor along as she moved along the sofa. "D' you like contests then? This is an old one- just a minor, uh, preliminary thing from months ago- but 's still enjoyable, I think."

"It's always better to be polite."
He flopped down on the sofa, glancing over to the television. The Venomoth was using what looked like Silver Wind, a very basic move, but a pretty one. "Yeah, I like contests. They're fun to watch, but I haven't really had a chance to watch any since I joined. They keep us trainees pretty busy."
He chuckled. That was an understatement. "Are you a fan? Or was this just the most interesting thing on?"

Tambrey smiled. That was a good sentiment and she rather hoped he'd get to keep it, though she knew, from experience, that the team could rather change outlooks before you even knew it.
"Ah, a trainee? Yeah. I remember that," She flinched slightly at the memory; it wasn't a pleasant period of time to revisit. "Still. Least y've got a little break now, hm?" She smiled, but now there was definitely something bothering at the back of her mind. Ah, but distractions and talk was the best of them. "Uh. Yep." A glance to the door, as if it was some shameful secret (unlikely with it right there on the TV and she watching it) before she nodded. "I'm kind of a fan. I mean. I've always kept up with it and they're just so... /good/. So, uh, d'you follow anyone in the circuit particularly or just.. general interest?" A real genuine smile, and interest, now; a kindred spirit maybe? Tambrey was beginning to be pleased to meet this boy who'd made her jump. Ah. They should probably exchange names. "'M Tambrey, by th' way."

"Yeah." She seemed slightly uncomfortable talking about that, and while he was curious, Ra knew better than to ask. He didn't even know her, and most people didn't like revealing themselves in front of strangers.
"Um." Did he follow anyone? Not really, not anymore. "I used to follow Gale, but since I'm out of loop, I don't know how things are going." He paused. Should he mention that he used to participate? "I've also entered a few myself."
There, honest but vague. He just wasn't sure how well that would go over, if there were unspoken rules about things you didn't do when you were a rocket. He could, and would, expand on the information if she asked, but until that point came, this would do.
"I'm Ra."

"Well... I don't really learn th' human names so well all the time." That was probably really bad grammar; oh well, it got her, blushing, point across. Her eyes widened a little as he admitted that he'd participated. "Oh! Neat! I always wanted to when I was younger, but... Eh. I chose something different and now, well, now 'm here." Apparently she wasn't too bothered by the talking and revelations and was, in fact, more interested than anything.
"It's nice t' meet you, Ra... Huh. Like the sun god?" She paused; that was a cool name. Then mentally shook her head. So much that was suddenly interesting, but they'd been talking contests. "Uh. Which did you participate in? I mean, 'f it was anything with media coverage... Like from the last two years 'r something, I've got a whole stack of magazines and things upstairs and... Well. Y've seen I watch them." She was probably babbling, or talking fast, but after boredom had led her to a contest on TV she was suddenly confronted with a past contest participant with the name of an Egyptian sun god; or a villain from a sci-fi show; it was all so interesting now.

He nodded. There were a lot of people like that, that wanted to do it but either never had the chance, or talked themselves out of it. "Too bad. It's even more interesting behind the scenes." More drama filled too, but who was he to burst her fun. "Maybe if one of the travelling competions come to town, you could enter." He saw no reason that she couldn't, it wasn't like being in Team Rocket was tattooed on them or anything like that, and if she was still interested in it. "I'd even go with you."
He nodded. "Yeah, exactly." It had been his whole theme in the contests, the boy pharoh and his cats, and chosen to keep it in his new life as a Rocket. It was just a pity that he didn't have any of his cats with him yet. "Um, I was in a bunch." He was sure that he was probably at least one of the magizines, since he remembered doing an interview, but he had no idea which one. "Mostly ones in Sinnoh, but I participated in a few others as well."
Those had been the days, though he found that he didn't miss them very often. The work here might be hard, but it was rewarding. "What got you interested in contests?"

"Uh. Maybe." Tambrey responded, a little unsure, about the suggestion of trying to compete in a travelling contest. "Well, that would nice." Having someone there who had actually professionally competed would be quite the beneficial experience, she was sure. "I'm not sure though, um, there was a contest thing a while ago and I just... kind o' got a bad shift so I couldn't go... And the team took a mission there anyway, so... I'm not sure if I'd be so good at it; I don't really own anything I could use for a good costume anyway." She smiled, though, hearing about his old days of competing professionally. "Oh! Very cool name... I have a few issues from, I /think/ it was, Sinnoh, I'd have to check though. Y'might be in them!" She smiled, it was always a little bit exciting to meet people like this, then blinked and shrugged at the question. "Uh... Well, y'know how kids are. I saw sparkly things and pokemon on TV and wanted t' be in them and some of me just, y'know, never really... grew out 'f that. It must be amazing t' compete..."
