This wasn't supposed to be hard. You were supposed to be able to pick up the phone, send out an innocent text message asking to hang out, and then get an affirmative or a negative depending on availability. It wasn't like Kess had any reason to avoid Daphne, they'd been having hilarious text chains at least once a week full of witty entendre and other friendly banter. Asking the blonde to hang out should not be a Big Deal.

Yet it was because she was rusty at this whole hangout thing. Mostly because she wanted to do something fun and she wasn't entirely sure Zac was the one for it, and Jada liked to talk a bit too much about a blonde pair of brothers, one of which was still eating at the bluenette's heart.

'Hey there, got some time in your life for sexy caramels? Could use some hangout time, lemme know if you're down.' There, no pressure, no big deal, though what the hell they were going to do other than sit around and stare at each other was a bit of a loss. Maybe Kess knew a good party or board game, or hell even a drinking game'd be welcome at this point.

Daphne was ready to start living again.

-ALWAYS-

It didn't take long, maybe twenty minutes, for a knock to sound at Daphne's door. Rapid, short, and rhythmic, it was undeniably cheerful, just like the freckled face the bluenette would find when she opened the door.

"Hey, you," Her wide, lopsided grin lingered as dark eyes flicked over the younger woman, her hands shoving deep into the pockets of her jacket, rather than reaching out to pull Daphne into an overly friendly hug. "Long time, no see."

The lanky blonde's jean-clad hip hit the door frame as she leaned, tilting her chin back toward the sidewalk. "Are you ready? We've got a date to catch with D Train."

As she'd pinkie-promised before the New Year, Daphne'd added color back into her life. The slouchy boots were a nutty brown, her jeans were comfortably worn in the distressed fashion so popular, with an 80s flash of mulberry tights beneath, capped off with a suitably fashionable sweater of similar fruity deliciousness. "D Train? Please tell me that's the subway and not actually some illegitimate rapper-wannabe friend of yours. Plus I don't do threesomes fresh outta the box, it takes trust yanno?" Snagging her own coat, Daphne responsibly locked the door behind her.

Stepping onto the sidewalk she had two choices. She could be herself and take whatever the hell came from that or take about three years' step back in personal development gain. Choices, choices, yeah ******** it. Determined to be cheerful she hooked an arm through Kess' and all but clipped down the street with her eagerness to be out.

"I knew I could count on you though. Figured if anyone knew how to find a good time you could. Not that my other friends are total stodges but they tend to have an indoor interest in fun, or a male-driven interest in fun." Her nose wrinkled a bit, just spilling everything. As usual.

Censorship? Nah, that was for the serious part of her life.

"Girl, don't play. You know my rapping friends are completely legit." Kess tightened her arm, briefly, squeezing the bluenette's arm in mock-reprimand. The brisk air was refreshing, despite the bite it gave her reddened, freckled nose and cheeks.

"My idea of fun is definitely not male-driven," Laughing, the blonde waited until they were approaching the subway entrance to adroitly inform Daphne what, exactly, they would be doing. "This is probably when I should let you know that I'm actually in the middle of running errands, not out having a good time, but that I'd love the company.."

Gesturing with her free hand down the stairway, her expression was innocent. "Ladies, first?"

Daphne slumped in mock-disappointment as she traipsed down the stairway, turning at the bottom to look up at Kess with what would have been an entirely morose expression. Except for, you know, the fact that she was trying not to crack up laughing with the ideals in her head of all of the freckled young woman's 'legit rapper friends'. "So we're not going to an 8 Mile style rap showdown before joining the victor's posse for the rest of a party hardy night? Man. All my dreams, Kess, totally shattered. You're a dreamkiller." Well, there were worse killers on these streets, and wasn't that the damn truth?

Unable to hold it back any longer Daphne erupted into laughter and shook her head. "Hey face to face company is better than just texting so often you end up walking into traffic. I actually saw someone do that the other day, nearly getting their dumb a** hit." Eyes rolled, the fare was paid, and the turnstiles rolled allowing them into the subway.

"We can just make our own fun. What sorta delivery are you on? I didn't really take you for the pizza girl type." Not to mention Kess hadn't shown up with a bike, a pizza, a car, or any other sort of packages. The bluenette wasn't precisely an idiot but she was just a little wary; she'd had to be overly cautious and it did tend to overlap.

"Sorry to disappoint, but I need to get my lyric game tighter before I take it to the streets."

Daphne had practically scampered down the stairs, turning to toss Kess the sort of smile that reminded the blonde why she stuck to girls, and only girls. They pushed their way through the toll area and onto the platform, neither needing to look at the signs to know where they were going.

"I get the people what they need," Her open grin made the statement seem like fact, rather than evasion, which it was. If you needed to get your hands on something, chances were that asking Kess was a good bet.

Dropping into a subway seat, the lanky girl looped an arm across the back, idly walking her fingertips along Daphne's shoulder as she elaborated. "But this is a personal errand, not business." She raised her brows. "I need you to help me pick out my new motorcycle."

Disappointment was not knowing exactly what it was Kess delivered. Though she did say she was a sort of Jack of All Trades sort of delivery girl it still left one horrible possibility open-ended. Quietly, inside of her brain, Daphne stood up and bitchslapped her common sense just once or twice to wake it up until a bit of guilt started to flow through her to satisfactory amounts. Not only had she initiated the hangout, what responsible Negaverse officer was going to come out and say 'Oh don't worry, I'm just going to drain your energy. You can keep your star seed because we're pals.'?!

Added onto that why did Kess have to be an officer? Maybe she was a senshi! Looking over at the blonde girl on the platform she tilted her head a bit to envision what Kess might look like in a short skirt and ribbons of a scout. Teeth bit into her lip to hold the laughter back. Nope, there was just no way, it was almost as bad as picturing Zac as a boy senshi like Elzo; total loss. She'd just do the normal, probably accurate thing, and assume that she had no idea what the hell a senshi was or that the Negaverse even existed.

Looking for problems usually brought them right to you.

Fingers sorta snapped her out of this odd contemplation, eyebrows raising only a fraction, then higher at the mention of something so wonderfully fantastic that she couldn't keep her voice or her color down. "You're getting a BIKE?!" Okay so the memories were just a little compromised but there was nothing in her that could think badly of zooming out into the outskirts of the city, into the mountains on the back of Elzo's borrowed bike as fast as possible.

Though she'd been making a valiant effort to be cheerful, like it was hard to joke and laugh with someone as easygoing as Kess!, everything about Daphne lit up like goddamn Christmas. "I love motorcycles. You don't understand." Her voice lowered, pleasure and delight in every inflection. "They go fast~"

Kess, clad in a leather jacket over a dark wool sweater, dress shirt and tie, above dark denim and short, matching boots, definitely didn't reconcile with the image of a senshi, usually in skirts almost too short to cover their asses.

In fact, Howlite often wondered [and asked, quite bluntly], how they managed to patrol in the winter time in such skimpy, impractical attire. Of course, the cheerful blonde could also have been a Knight, though that was all fantasy and conjecture.

"Yeah," the easy response was pleased, her dark eyes lingering on the bluenette as she continued, enthusiastically. Her own tone lowered in response, a mixture of amusement and the light flirtation that they'd grown accustomed to using with one another. "You like to go fast, Daph?"

She grinned. "I think that can be arranged."

Thumping back against the seat in a slumped mimicry of pure bliss, Daphne's eyes were closed and she sighed in memory of the punch of speed while the wind streamed through her hair. It had been worth the hour's worth of brushing later to get all the tangles out; these days it wouldn't have even been an issue. Her hair had grown out a few inches to brush against her shoulders, but it'd be close to two years before it was back to its old length, if ever. "Freckles, there ain't words for how much I like fast. Just a sound that is publicly indecent at best and I think is only otherwise heard in the throes of passion, or something like that." The girl bit her lip, rolling her eyes dramatically back and laughing.

Remembering she sighed again, this time with less playfulness. "I like speed and I like a bit of danger. My parents always were appalled, generally saying that all that dangerous stuff was going to get me killed." And it had, but certainly had never had anything to do with a motorcycle. Tucking her hair behind her ear she beamed again at Kess. "I can't help it though. Plus hey, you're only young once, only live once, at least as far as I can remember." Except that philosophy had become a bit of a lie; she had two lives, remembered snatches of her first, but she was only going to have one life here in Destiny City.

"So what kind of bike are you after? Sleek, slightly sexy crotch-rocket or a loud, angry, rough sex hog?" Oh yeah, totally into it.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 20, 2012 1:34 pm

"Can't say I'm opposed to hearing that." Nor could the blonde say she particularly disagreed with the bluenette's philosophy. Of course, unlike for the younger girl, Kess didn't have to remind herself to live freely. That part came naturally.

As for the bike... "I reckon you won't be surprised that I'm after a cruiser," Grin. "I like the flexibility."

Kess laughed, reaching up to grab one of the handles above to pull herself up from her seat as the train came to a stop at their exit. Reaching out a hand to Daphne to help her up from the low seats, she raised her brows. "I'll know what I want when I see her."

As they hit the platform, she jerked a thumb toward the stairs. "C'mon, the dealership's only a block or two away."

Taking the hand Daphne pulled herself up with a bit of a bounce, dragging Kess out behind her without once releasing it. They probably looked ridiculous and they were laughing like kids, but that was part of the fun of it. She wasn't even a full 20 years old yet, barely past 19, and she was determined to enjoy what little fun was left in life, damn it.

"Well yeah you totally have to have room to get people what they need, and if you don't take me for at least one ride I'm going to be convinced you are utterly heartless." Getting to the top of the stairs out of the subway the teen released Kess' hand, looking left and right as a sign that the blonde should point the way.

"Maybe we can even barter. Motorcycle rides for...something from me. I'm not sure what I have to offer but hey, we can figure this out."
PostPosted: Fri Jan 20, 2012 2:45 pm

Their good humor was likely infectious, with the blonde's wide, honest grin and Daphne's enthusiasm bubbling up into the air in a way that was almost palpable. The agreeable, lanky girl was yanked through the subway platform at a relatively breakneck pace, and Kess blinked as they hit the top of the landing, adjusting to the sunlight.

"Do people tell you that you're trouble?" If there was such a thing as 'too much laughter,' Kess was quickly approaching that threshold, her jaw beginning to feel a slight ache from her own amusement. "You're trouble, Daph."

Sliding her hands into the back pockets of her jeans, Kess led the way, rather than point, though as they drew closer, their destination quickly became obvious. The large showroom was viewable from the street, with such a large, well-lit window front.

Motorcycles, galore.

She pulled out a hand in time to push open the glass door, holding it so that Daphne could pass through, first. Raising her brows at the bluenette's expression, she teased, "Eat your heart out."

Time to find something special.

Trouble? That rocked her back on her heels a bit. No, really. Daphne rocked physically back on her heels before rolling forward on the balls of her feet to jog lightly after Kess, catching up and trying to catch her breath. The question vanished a bit in the excitement of being in a room full of very sleek, very fast things, and she didn't precisely leave her companion out of that equation. Kess was slick as spit when she wanted to be, a phrase that came straight out of her memory from hazy Kansas summers.

"What do you mean trouble? I'm very good." Daphne scrunched her nose a bit, trying to keep the whole question comical. She'd been called dangerous in her time as a Negaverse officer, reckless, certainly heartless. Never trouble. "I could probably manage to eat my heart and several others, the way mine is going pitty-pat. Mmm." She purred, scooted towards a chassis painted a rich, glorious royal violet, hands caressing over the metal but never against it.

Fingerprints were bad.

"Look at this one." Looking back at the freckled blonde she shook her head a bit. "Nah, purple's not your style. You need something a bit bolder." Scooting through the room there were several that drew Daphne's attention but she kept most of her thoughts to herself for the moment. Kess had said she'd know what she wanted when she saw it; Daph believed it.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 20, 2012 3:14 pm

"You know exactly what I mean," Kess mused, most of her attention focused on the feast of chrome and paint before them, rather than the playful girl she'd brought along. The blonde had a habit of spending too much time around girls that thought they were straight, despite all evidence to the contrary. How attached Daphne was to that idea, however, was up in the air.

Her grin was automatic as Daphne indicated the violet bike, before rejecting it as an option. She was right, there, at least. "Bolder," she repeated. That was a good word for what she needed, definitely.

Though she gave herself the better part of an hour, Kess continued to find her attention drawn to a victory judge, its brazen color a burnt orange that was eye-catching without being too much. Most wouldn't go for it, but for Kess? It was perfect. While altogether modern, it had a classic build, and her dark eyes searched out Daphne, getting her attention with a wave of the hand.

"Test ride?"

Okay so maybe she had a small idea of what Kess was referring to but it was...okay no. It wasn't entirely unintentional. Yes she was trying a little to hard to be cheerful and as a result was probably doing a few things that were more charming than they needed to be. Had the blonde bothered asking she might have even gotten the response that no, she wasn't attached to being straight. In fact it could probably have been truthfully said that Elzo was the fluke and she was inclined to care about women.

One in particular. But that was neither here nor there and did not belong right now. So she quietly browsed the shining machines until Kess waved her over, offering a dream.

"Please." It was said almost like a prayer, a fervent oath as she all but scurried over to stand and wait for Kess to get her balance, then invite her on. Any closer friend, maybe if they'd hung out more, and maybe if they didn't spend half of their time flirting ironically (on both sides; Daphne was almost always blind to intent), she could have scampered on and clung like a squirrel.

This was a little bit more delicate, especially considering previous comments.

"Definitely bolder. Less a girl's machine and more just...nice." Gnawing at her lip for just a minute, knotting her fingers together, Daphne finally just tossed her head in defiance of her own habits and swung a leg over one side. Her petite frame had no problem in settling behind Kess' sportier one, an arm hooked around the other girl's waist.

It was an interesting sensation, considering the last time she'd done this.
