It had been a very trying few weeks for Candace. Eaten by a present, attacked by a giant ninja, stabbed in the gut by said ninja, discovering an idiot who wouldn't listen to reason was forced into the same division as her because H felt like it...and the demotion. It was hitting her hard. She wanted to curl up in her bed and cry for a few hours but she knew if she did that there were actually a couple people in this place that would probably come to her side and try to calm her down, and Candace didn't want to be calmed down. She just...she wanted alone time. She needed quiet. And peace. Somewhere secluded no one else could get to.

The Mist lounge sounded ideal.

Candace could have sworn Aria told her and Cass they would need her or Lance to let them in and she was ready to text one of them to do so until she found...a hole in the wall? That would do. She climbed through it and found herself in the lounge, sniffling quietly and looking around to make sure neither Lance nor Aria or Cass or even Before were around. Good, it was quiet. She could wallow in her misery in peace, quiet and solitude.

...Was that fridge stocked?

Looking around again like a child sneaking through the house while her parents were sleeping, Candace made her way to the fridge in the 'kitchen' area and opened the freezer. Jackpot. They had Haagen Dazs?! Who stocked this? They were the best person ever to exist.

She grabbed a pint and a spoon and sat down on one of the couches, breaking the seal and opening the pint. She dug right in. She didn't give a damn what flavor ice cream it was. It was sad depressed girl time.

Click.

The bright lights flickered on in the Mist lounge, blinding Candace for a moment. Were there motion sensors? No, they would have flickered on when she stepped through the wall. But why was there a hole in the wall in the first place? As soon as Candace blinked the spots out of her eyes the answer would have become apparent.

The monitors on the wall where Lance usually sat were in disarray, most shattered and collected in a heap on the floor. There were several dark stains on the carpet, scattered about as if something had happened. One section of the wall looked as if something was thrown against it, complete with dark markings. Perhaps someone had thrown some sort of liquid against it? There were even sweeping lines on it, as if someone had somehow tried to make a snow angel four or six feet off of the ground. It was hard to estimate an exact distance, given the odd angle it was at.

By the light switches, Aria blinked and frowned, squinting into the room. "...Candace?" The hunter shifted something long and white off of her shoulder as she padded across the floor, her bare feet making no noise as she approached the trainee. The only sound she made was a series of faint clinks and clicks coming from the bracelets she wore over her fingerless gloves, visible as the division leader was coatless. "What are you doing here?"

"Geh!" Candace tensed and quickly closed her eyes against the sudden light. s**t! Busted! Who was it? Aria? Lance? Would she be in trouble for coming in here without calling up one of them first and just letting herself in? She wasn't quite sure how she'd been able to let herself in to begin with but...it didn't seem to matter until she opened her eyes and noticed the state of the lounge Aria had so proudly introduced her and Cass to. What...the hell? Lavender eyes widened as she slowly set the ice cream and spoon aside and got off the couch, stepping closer to the..the only proper word for it was carnage. The monitors. Why were--what was--was this why there had been a hole in the wall?

Candace turned toward Aria when she heard her leader speak. "Aria! I..uh..." She gave the monitors and the wall one more look. How had she not noticed? She'd been so focused on herself and trying to sneak in for ice cream that she..how did she not notice this?! "I..I was..." What the hell happened here? Was Lance okay?! Aria looked fine. But Lance..where was Lance? Was he sleeping? "I needed..some quiet time." Candace frowned, looking down at the fancy new coat she was wearing. Her intermediate trainee coat. She picked at the gold and black trimmed cuffs, not wanting to give up the coat for anything, but was she even allowed to wear this right now? She ******** earned this. She rubbed her lips together and looked anywhere but Aria and the monitors.

"Is...is everything alright? Er, no. I mean. What happened to the monitors?" How could she not notice this when she was sneaking through here? Her own problems could wait. This looked serious.

Aria slowed her steps, stopping before the trainee. Her grip tightened on the object she had slung over her shoulder. It was white and bore a bit of a curve to it, one end rather small while the other was... Was... Was she holding a bone?! Her blue eyes narrowed as she scanned the trainee up and down, her words becoming clipped. "That depends," she began, "Entirely as to who you ask. Why don't you go back to Dr. H and ask him? Or would you rather talk to Caelius? To Julie?"

The bone was swung off of her shoulder, used to poke Candace in the chest with the larger end. "I want you to take a real good look around. Tell me what happened. Now."

Candace's gaze was stuck on the white thing Aria was slinging around. What..? They slowly widened as her jaw dropped in terrified realization. Don't let that be Lance. Don't let that be Lance. Oh god don't let that be Lance! If it was she just...what would..oh no...was this because of her saying no to the tower? Oh no! What had she done?! Please don't let that have been it! "Why would I go to them? I...no. I don't want to ask H, or Julie. And I'd rather see as little of Caelius as possible." Why the hell would she even ask one of them about the Mist lounge? That made no sense! What did it matter to them what happened here? She asked Aria.

Aria was not pleased. She backed away as she was poked with the bone, a hand flying to her mouth. Please don't be Lance! But she did as Aria demanded anyway, looking to the monitors again. She took a cautious step toward them, pausing a moment to look toward Aria as if silently asking if that was alright because she stepped closer again. She needed to see it up close to really figure out what happened; Candace didn't want to, but she felt she had to. She knelt down, picking and pushing at the monitors. She was searching for something, anything. Next came the stains on the carpet. "A-Aria..is this blood?" Candace asked with worry. She looked up at the wall, swallowing hard. "And where is Lance, ma'am?" She couldn't tell Aria what happened unless she knew the facts. She needed to know them as unpleasant to think about as they may be.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 18, 2012 12:46 am

"Why? You seemed apt to go to Dr. H readily enough concerning the transfer of the newest Mist member," Aria pointed out sharply. "You also seemed to have approached someone else concerning a promotion. Did you think that the Mist division works the same as the others? Here's a hint: it doesn't. Why do you think there aren't that many members? Do you think that it's that easy to become an intermediate Mist trainee? There is a lot you don't know."

Aria continued to speak as Candace examined the monitors, the stains. "Let me enlighten you. Something happened to break through the wall to the mist lounge. Something was thrown against the monitors to break most of them, leave some hanging and others in a mess that I had to sweep into a pile. You ask if it's blood? Use your head."

The division leader stalked over to the wall, using the bone to jab at an indentation in the wall. It was difficult to judge the size of the hole, given the angle it seemed to pierce the wall. "Do you know what this cost? Thirty-seven stitches. Four fractured ribs. One broken bone. One mangled wheel chair. Did it even occur to you, to any of you that when the island was invaded that they were targeting specific areas? That the mist hub would have been a prime target? Do you have any idea," Aria seethed, "How difficult it is to pin down not only a stubborn former Sun hunter, but to have to knock him out in order to perform on the spot first aid because like hell you would risk moving him?"

Aria took a step forward, her barefoot resting in the red stain. "I don't know what happened. All I know is that some Mists went to investigate an anomaly in the Mist tower. Some Mists chose instead to investigate something else. Some Mists chose to provide support for other divisions."

She made as if to continue speaking before spinning on one heel, stalking across the room. The bone was thrown onto a couch before the division leader turned, yanking open the fridge door and laying claim to a container of ice cream. The drawer containing spoons was similarly yanked open, spoon grabbed before the leader slammed it shut and stomped back to the couch. "********!" She shouted, aiming a kick at the couch and cursing again before sitting down on the cushion. She crossed her legs, spoon her mouth as she peeled open the container. "********. Just. ********. It. All. Candace, do me a favor and hurry the ******** up with getting promoted. Or one of you, I don't care. This leadership s**t is getting too ridiculous."

Aria's words hurt, and it was obvious with the way Candace closed her eyes and winced. She knew that would come back and bite her in the a**. "I'm sorry, I know that was unacceptable I just--what?" Candace's eyes opened again to turn a shocked stare toward Aria. She..what? Now that was low. Candace stood again, fists clenched. "What is with people assuming things about what I do? Even you, Aria?! I did not go to Julie. She asked me to go to her. And I had no ******** idea I was being promoted! She asked me to find her 'true love' and I was attacked by her kitchen. That hardly seemed like a promotion to me, I had no idea what it was all about until I was suddenly given my coat." Perhaps she didn't deserve the promotion after all with a 'mission' like that. "I had to make due with thinking you were dead because no one would tell us anything regarding you! And I had no idea how to find out! So I was stuck with..Caelius! And H!" She liked H but damnit! This wasn't fair! Not Aria, anyone but Aria. She didn't want her own leader hating her. Please god no. She could deal with Caelius disliking her, Robert disliking her, even Before and Jordan...hell if H suddenly decided he was bored with her she wouldn't be broken up about it either. But not Aria, the leader she was so glad to have back. She nearly kicked a monitor in frustration. It wasn't fair. Everyone always jumped to conclusions with her, they never let her explain herself until after they did it. "I want you to train me, Aria. You. I know there is a lot I don't know. That's why I was so ******** happy to see you were alive and well and back. We finally had our leader, and she wasn't bent on humiliating us or sending us off to get killed!" She tried desperately to keep her tone even but it was hard. She couldn't have her own leader not wanting her. Being recruited was probably the best thing to happen to Candace, it had been something Candace realized when H had asked her what she wanted for Christmas; she was well aware this would be a bad thing to mention and so it stayed in her head for now.

Aria's explanation was...exactly what Candace thought. Something had gotten in, destroyed the room and attacked Lance. If guilt had a physical form it would be a heavy stone dropping onto her chest. Were she laying down she would probably be pinned to the floor. "That day with the ninja..? While you and the others were gone?" She frowned, looking down at the stains and monitors again. Candace would have to make it up to Lance. She would apologize and do whatever it took to earn his forgiveness...if he was alive.

"Do you know what this cost? Thirty-seven stitches."

Candace's eyes widened. She was right. He was at least alive but...oh god what had she done?! She'd messed up so badly! There was no easy recovery from this like when she had been given Circe again! Candace's hands weaved into her hair and shook it up, closing her eyes. What had she done?

"Lance told us to check the mist tower. Myself, Cass, Molly and Emmaline went to go do just that. However, before we went inside there was a loud ******** explosion at the front gates." Candace's hands dropped from her head to stand with her arms spread and her hands held with her palms up. Seriously? Loud explosion? Seriously? "I decided to check out the explosion. Molly decided to come with me, and she did a pretty good job. Cass and Emmaline stayed in the tower, so I'm not sure what happened there. I'm sorry I didn't stay at the tower but the tower seemed contained while there was something viciously attacking the island. It seemed a higher threat than the tower, so I went to it. Yes, it's my fault. I <******** up. But at the same time do you know what I did? I healed a couple people, and I saved a few other trainees from having their death certificates signed. And I also helped keep the facility from being destroyed." She straightened up, frowning. Candace looked slightly calmer now, though she was still angry. "You tell me which is better, Aria. The entire facility or one room, one hunter who is..alive and I swear I will do whatever it takes to make it up to him what happened because we made a stupid ******** mistake. I will put..all of my future pay toward the Lounge. All of it. I won't spend a ******** cent on me." She was okay with that, actually. She had what she needed right now, and she was content.

She was trembling as she watched Aria turn away, eyes following the bone. "You never answered my question. Where is Lance?" If it was possible Candace wanted to go see him first chance she had. She was still hoping the bone wasn't his. Please don't be his.

Finally Candace worked up the courage to walk across the room even as Aria threw a mild fit, kicking the couch and cursing all over the place. She picked up her own ice cream and spoon and plopped down right beside Aria quite shamelessly; despite the anger, and the reprimanding that she deserved, Candace still loved her leader. "..Promoted to what, ma'am." She asked quietly, frowning again. "I'm not leadership material as you can clearly see...I was just ******** demoted because certain other intermediate trainees decided to abuse the ******** power we were given when you guys went off." It still stung.

Nothing was said as Candace said her piece. At most the only reaction Aria showed was a tightening of her jaw, the slight shifting of her stance and tightening of her grip on the bone as Candace mentioned things that provoked the slight reaction from. Aria listened to her report, filing the information away for later. She remained silent even after the trainee joined her on the couch, quietly concentrating on devouring spoonful after spoonful of sweet vanilla swiss almond bliss.

After three minutes of silence, the division leader shifted in her seat. She reached into her sweatpants and pulled forth a small container, giving it a small shake before popping it open with her thumb. The colorful pills were swallowed dry, Aria shaking her head afterward before chasing the small things down with another spoonful of ice cream.

"I wasn't supposed to be here," Aria began quietly, her eyes distant as she stared across the room. "By the time I joined the Hunters, there was no time to train me. They put me into the Mists. At the time, there were... two miniature divisions within the Mists: the outer and inner circles." Aria leaned back against the couch, tapping the spoon against her lower lip. "The only difference? The inner circle had only each other. You, Cass, Before, Lance -- all of you would be Outers, just because you have relationships with people outside the division. Your training would be specialized -- will be. Only the inners trained and trained enough to be functional for any sort of situation. They were the ones who would go on solo missions. You know why?" She glanced at the trainee, continuing, "It was because they wouldn't be missed. We had nothing to distract ourselves. It was us and our mission. Something big was going to go down then, and they didn't have time to sort me according to my strengths. As new as I was, I didn't know anyone. I was expendable. But hell were they going to get use out of me while they could."

"So you claim you ******** up? By an Outer, you did what you were supposed to do. By an Inner? That depends on the mission. Were you tasked with protecting Deus Ex? Then you did what you were supposed to do. Were you tasked with protecting our weapons master? Then you failed." She looked over to the trainee, watching her. "Lance is resting. If I had not come back, then it is very likely he would have bled out on the couch, still smoking a goddamn cigarette."

Aria's eyes drifted over to the couch in question. It was black -- the spot where Lance had sat could only be seen with an ultraviolet light. But even then that was something Aria didn't want to risk. She knew of the... activities some of the hunters did in their free time. She didn't want to think of what the couches looked like, even if she had the couches in question cleaned several times and reupholstered before putting them to use.

"As to where he is..." Aria used her spoon and pointed towards the back, towards the rooms that she had not yet shown to any trainee. "He is resting in his rooms. Before you try it, the door's locked and I've tied him to the bed. The last thing he needs to be doing is getting up and walking around. It took me two hours after getting him fixed up to pull Afïr from where she pinned her prey to the wall."

Absently and rather shamelessly, Aria reached into her sweatpants and carefully withdrew a knife. As soon as it was free it shifted into a flamethrower: unsurprising, it was her weapon. The rune on it seemed to glow softly as Aria shifted it until it was resting comfortably across her lap. She stroked it once before positioning her container of ice cream on top of it, giving her weapon a thankful smile before spooning another bit of ice cream. "The Mist division isn't like the other divisions," she repeated quietly. "We're not as numerous. We're a little bit of everything, but not. Some trainees start off their careers as Hunters in this division before specializing and going into another division. If anyone gets transferred in... It's either because they don't know what division to go into, or it's the only one that's left."

"Take Lance for instance. He is a Sun through and through. He's dedicated his life to mastering weapons. Being stuck in a wheel chair here probably kills him. Deus Ex has no place for someone like him. If he was still a Sun, then Afïr would probably be forced to separate from him while he retired. Most likely permanently." She added the last bit as an after thought, shaking her head. "Once you become a hunter, you die a hunter. When I was a trainee, there were stories of hunters who tried to go back. They couldn't. They saw too much, usually ended up killing themselves or they were shipped off to a mental ward. Or they were slowly drugged to death. With Lance... Either the Suns would have finished him off, or Halloween would have. He is still useful. To us, that is. His experience with weapons is invaluable. While he isn't a master of all weapons, he knows more than I ever will. His knowledge makes him important."

But it didn't end there. It wasn't that simple. There was more to the story than what was given. "If I was never put into the Mist division," Aria continued after eating more ice cream, calmer now than she was earlier. "I would have been put into Life. Or Moon. Most likely Life, though. I have had experience with medical supplies."

"What about you, Candace? If there was no Mist... where do you think you would belong?"

After all the loudness of being angered by her leader the silence was nice. As was the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream she was eating. Ugh. The best. Did Aria get this herself? Kudos to her if she did. ...That's it? All that and you're just going to sit and quietly eat ice cream together like nothing just happened? Like she didn't just reprimand you when you didn't deser-- Candace cleared her throat and looked down at her rings. I did deserve it. There was a huff from the weapon and Candace sighed, looking away from the glowing purple rings to watch Aria when she noticed her moving around. What was she doing? She pills were eyed curiously but she said nothing about them; they weren't her business. If Aria wanted her to know what they were she'd tell Candace herself, but she wouldn't pry just this once.

Candace was staring at the wreckage again, trying to think of ways to fix it, when Aria broke the silence. Wasn't...huh? A confused look was given to Aria but she sad nothing just yet. She was curious where she was going with this. There were two divisions? But not..anymore? Would be? Will be? Why was she getting confused? Did..something happen to the Mist division? She didn't understand, and it made her more curious about what things were like before the mass wave of trainees. So Aria was an 'inner'.

Aria made a good point...their task had been to act as leaders and just not get the place completely taken over or destroyed. So she supposed she did do what she was supposed to do in defying an order from a superior. "I'm sorry." She said quietly, eating a few more spoonfuls of ice cream. It was doing wonders for her mood, actually. "I just..it didn't occur to me because Cass and I weren't sure if this place was supposed to be hush-hush or not, you know? So...it wouldn't be obvious that hey maybe the lounge is...a target. I'm so sorry, Aria. I won't disappoint you again, I swear it. I'll..help clean up, too." The monitors were still a mess, after all. And the blood...and the wall...ugh. The wall. But she was glad he was resting, and even amused by his how Aria had found him. It probably would have been funny if it weren't a horrifically traumatizing scene one thought only happened in movies. "I'm glad he's alive." Candace said with a sigh of relief. "And that that bone isn't his..?"

She turned her head to look to where Aria was pointing, making a soft noise of understanding. The idea of him being pinned down with his own weapon sent goosebumps up her arms and shivers down her spine. "...Where she pinned her prey?" Candace asked with a raised brow, giving Aria a look.

Eh? What was she digging for now? Oh...oh! Her flamethrower! Candace's eyes widened as she admired it, resisting the urge to reach out and touch it out of pure curiosity. The moment the thought had even come across her mind there was a sharp snarl in her head that stopped her. I wasn't going to do it... She assured Atropos with a sigh. I don't want any weapon but you. Atropos knew this, the silly thing. "Ah...I see..." Candace quietly twirled her spoon in her ice cream, looking down at it. "I suppose that makes sense...I was about to say earlier the thing with Before..I just...I'm perfectly capable of being civil with him when he isn't being a goddamn idiot who fails to show any of his potential and instead wastes his breath calling me a monster in human skin." She clutched the spoon tightly as she said that, nearly stabbing the pint. No. Be good. Be. Good. "I only went to the doctor because I just...needed to know why he transferred him. It was nothing against you, I was just angry and...my behavior was unacceptable. Ugh, I'm messing up so badly lately. I'd been doing so well." She ate another spoonful of ice cream to stop herself.

Poor Lance. She couldn't imagine what it must be like for him. "I do like Lance. I'm glad he's still here with us. Maybe I can get him a potted plant so he feels less cooped up~." It was possible that she was being completely serious. Life or Moon, huh?

The question being directed at her surprised her, and it showed. Candace just sat there, spoon hanging from her mouth and eyes trained down on what was left of her ice cream. Where..? Well...that was tough. She let the spoon drop, catching it in her hand and twirling it in her fingers. "Well...I..I don't know. You know I sparred Clarice once? I offered to let her release some tension she was feeling, and after we finished she said I had good Sun hunter qualities. But my attacks don't do as much damage as Jerry's bazooka, or Jordan's hammer. Studying is something I love...I think I'd enjoy being in the Life labs, or gathering intel with Death. Except their leader can go jump in a burning inferno as far as I care. Moon..? Hm. Don't think I'm quite cut out for Moon." She brought her legs up on the couch to sit lotus style, making herself comfortable. She was giving this serious thought just as she had with H's simple question of what she wanted for Christmas. "Honestly I think I'd get bored just doing one specialty all the time. I like knowing how to do everything. Heh. But if..I had to place myself into something? Probably Life or Death, in that order. But...I'm glad there's Mist, because I think this is where I belong. I love challenges. I love learning everything and anything. To be useful, and to be depended on. To know a little bit of just..everything. To not have to stick myself somewhere and feel...trapped." Candace leaned over, her cheek against Aria's shoulder and her eyes closed.

"I want to be in Mist, I don't want to be another division. This is what I'm best suited for, and I can't apologize enough for how badly I've disappointed you."
PostPosted: Wed Jan 18, 2012 4:22 pm

"The Mist lounge is intended to be open to all Mist trainees, just as how the other divisions have their own lounges." Aria replied quietly. "This is a place I've built for all of us as a place to come to and regroup. The only reason other divisions aren't welcomed here is because, first off, they have their own." Aria paused, considering. "I'm not sure if they're open though. The death lounge's bar was open only to the advanced Death hunters when I last checked it out for instance. I'm not sure if the other places are even operational, or if they still exist. It's not cheap to run a place like this."

Aria grimaced as she looked around the lounge again. The monitors, the stains, and hell, even the Haagen Dazs. Right when it finally felt like things were getting along, wham. Setback. It wasn't just with costs, either. With Lance out of commission, there went a valuable resource as far as she was concerned. How was she supposed to train her trainees now? She wasn't familiar with them, nor with their weapons. She didn't have any idea where to start. Not only that, as soon as Lance reached a stable condition she had to figure out how to transport him into the Life labs to get him hooked up to the equipment there to speed his recovery, his pride be damned...

Candace's question about the bone made the leader glance to it and shrug. "It is for a project I'm working on. It is also too clean to be recent. There's no muscle, no residue, no --" she broke off, chuckling. "Never mind. I don't want to put you off of your ice cream."

Aria nodded sympathetically to Candace as the trainee vented, saying nothing. There was so much about her trainees that she didn't know or had an opportunity to know. Hell, Candace and Cass were the last two trainees she had even spoken to. How many were in the Mist division? She couldn't remember. Aria didn't even know how to go about addressing them. She wasn't like Ruka. She wasn't cut out to be a leader.

The rune beneath the ice cream container flickered.

Aria couldn't help but grin and stroke her weapon affectionately, wordlessly thanking her weapon as she focused her attention again on Candace. She reached up, ruffling the trainee's hair as she leaned against her shoulder. "We all make mistakes," she said quietly. "And in our line of work, some of those mistakes can be... disastrous." Her words seemed to stumble as Aria bit her tongue, glancing away. "We can't go back and change the decisions we make, no matter how badly we want to. The only thing we can do is keep moving forward and accept what comes with our choices. It doesn't matter if it is a consequence or something that benefits us. The choices we make define who we are, and who we become."

The Mist huntress took a deep breath and held it, waiting before releasing it. "This does not change the fact that I am displeased with the decisions all of you made while myself and the others were gone. There are only five advance Mists. One of them is working closely with another division, using her talents as a hacker to gain access to information that we are in need of. Two are out supplementing other teams on the field, and the last two are out on field themselves as solo operators. That leaves myself and Lance here as acting Mists, and Lance is currently too injured to serve. I cannot do everything. I cannot offer you or any other Mist personalized training -- my expertise lies in my weapon, explosives, and a few other weapons. Therefore..."

Aria watched Candace carefully. "Therefore, you perform not one, but two external missions. One mission you will lead, the other you will act as a support. In addition, you must go through and complete both the Life and Death division training courses. For the Death course, you may only use three golems. For the Life course, you may only fail once. You have a month to complete these tasks. Have I made myself clear?"

"Good to know~. Will we still only be able to access it with er...your help, now? I mean, I got in through a hole in the wall but that hardly seems like a good thing." Especially now that she knew why there was even a hole there to begin with. But she had no idea all the divisions had their own lounge! It made sense, actually. But it was nice to know this kind of thing wasn't hushushsupersecretneedtoknow knowledge.

She watched Aria turn her attention to the destroyed lounge and frowned, giving the monitors and walls a sad look as well. There had to be something they could do. "...Some of the monitors look salvageable. Throw out what isn't, out of sight out of mind. Just..get rid of what can't be saved. There's no use keeping it. Clean the floor...the walls...I don't mind a little extra cleaning duty for this. I still have a little bit left over from my Christmas pay that I'd be happy to let you use how you please. I'm sure Cass, Molly, Emmaline and Before will help." She turned to give Aria a gentle smile. "It can be fixed. They're just...things. Important things, yes, but things nonetheless. They can be replaced and fixed. It'll be okay, ma'am. Have you met Molly and Emmaline yet? They're great girls. Emmaline stayed with Cass at the tower, and Molly accompanied me to the other issue at the gates. They're very eager and willing~." She didn't want to bring up Lance, the reminder that he was in another room recovering from nearly dying because they made a stupid mistake made her sick to her stomach. But if the time came that Aria asked for her help in moving him Candace would be more than happy to. Plus, it'd be nice to see him and apologize for what she'd done. She shouldn't have told him no. Ugh!

And it was also a huge relief the bone wasn't Lance's. "A project with bones? That's neat. Can I see sometime? For curiosity's sake?" What a nerd. She ate another spoonful of ice cream and smiled around the spoon as Aria cut herself off, giving her head a little shake and shrugging. "S'okay." She wasn't terribly put off. If the bone did have any of those things then she'd push the ice cream away.

Aria fell quiet and Candace simply watched her, always curious of her facial expressions and what they meant. What was that smile for? Was it something she said? Or her weapon perhaps? She wanted to know what was going through her leader's head. Candace wanted to know everything. But her thoughts were interrupted by the sudden ruffling of her hair and she gave a laugh, raising her shoulder and ducking her head with a playful whine like a child trying to get out of affection from their mother. Noooo! Her haaaaair! Oh well, she'd fix it later. It was just her hair, and it wasn't as if Aria had attacked her. Even despite the hair ruffling she stayed where she was, comfortable against Aria for now. The woman made very good points; there really was no use crying about her mistakes, especially when there were better things to worry about and more important matters at hand. If she hadn't missed her exam would she be here right now? No, she'd probably be working in one of the law firms she'd been offered a job at. What if she hadn't taken Circe from that fellow candidate in that room? Would she have made the impression she did? Would Dr. H have awakened her into her new trainee life? She couldn't imagine he would have especially considering she clearly remembered it had been that incident he referred to when awakening her from her pod.

Aria took a break and Candace blinked, looking up from her now empty ice cream container to give her leader a curious look. Ehh? Oh...oh wow. So five hunters, Aria, Lance, and then the six trainees? Wow. They were smaller than she thought, no wonder she hadn't seen any Mist hunters. "I understand." She said quietly, looking surprised by Aria's decision after.

That was it? Extra work? Extra missions? More training? Sure, there were drawbacks but that was it? No 'you are dismissed, nameless trainee'? No severe punishment that humiliated her? Oh, Aria. You just made her day. Candace was more than happy to do this. She was so willing. So very willing. Candace sat up and actually smiled, looking excited for this. "Crystal! One question, the three golems and the one failure..is that per attempts or at all? Not that I intend on letting myself fail but I'd just like to be sure. s**t happens, after all."

Aria glanced at the hole in the wall as Candace mentioned it, wincing yet again. "That point of entry will be... probably the only entry for now. It will need to be sealed eventually, and while it pains me to allow it to stay there it would make my project easier. There's no guarantee that it would work, however..." She shrugged. "Who can say? It is worth a shot. If it works out it will benefit us for the long run."

And speaking of the long run... Aria nodded to Candace's words before she used her spoon, pointing towards the monitors. "Then salvage what you can. Bring in other trainees that are knowledgeable -- I don't care at this point what division they are. If we can repair them, then we will continue to use them. What can't be repaired... Salvage for spare parts." Aria shrugged. "Mechanical devices are not my strong point. There may be some Moons or Lifes who are familiar, possibly Deaths as well. The Mist who would probably help out with this is, as I mentioned earlier, busy with her own mission at the moment."

Aria focused on scraping out the last remnants of the ice cream before leaning forward over her weapon, placing the container on the table. She shifted her weapon on her lap, cradling it as if it were a favorite pet. "Three golems, period for Death. You have three chances to pass it. With Life, you keep going until you reach the points needed, or you continue until you fail. Do you have any more questions?"

The project again. With ever glance at the bone and now the mention of the hole in the wall making it easier Candace couldn't help but wonder what it was. She hoped she would get to see it sometime. And the plans for cleanup sounded just fine! But did she know anyone good with this stuff? She'd have to find out. Maybe Cass and the others would know. "Yes, ma'am. I'll let the others know too so they can find assistance. We can fix it." She even took that moment to offer the woman a hug, her arms curling around her and giving her a comforting affectionate squeeze before releasing Aria and sitting up straight again. There were a lot of trainees around here there had to be someone who knew how to work with this stuff from their previous life.

"Okay. Two missions, one I lead one I'm support. Death with three golems, Life with only one fail. Done deal, sounds fun! Oh, and the Mist Tower? I was going to do it anyway but is there anything specific I should do for that?" Come on, Aria. Give her more challenges. She was loving this.

As Candace's arms went around her, Aria stiffened. She wasn't expecting that. Touched? Okay. Leaned on? Fine. A hug? It was all Aria could do to take a slow deep breath and ease the tension out of her shoulders as if to act like nothing happened at all. "That would be best," She answered evenly, masking the discomfort in her voice.

Symphony pointed out unhelpfully.

Not now. Aria focused her attention once again on Candace, considering. "If you are considering doing the Mist Tower as well, then perhaps you should also consider doing the other ones as well: Sun and Moon," Aria suggested. "But as far as the Mist Tower goes... Do not fail. Not even once."

She did notice the tension but she assumed it was surprise. Candace didn't realize hugging was a straight up no-no. She couldn't help it though! Aria had really taken her from 'I want to curl up and die' to 'BEST DAY EVER!!!!!' in the span of a few minutes. She was the best leader ever.

"Oooh all five courses? Done. And I'll enjoy every minute of it." Candace grinned, though that grin did falter slightly when told she couldn't fail the Mist Tower even once. She intended on passing every time but...oh wow. Pressure. "Alright. I won't disappoint you, I promise. I won't fail any of them." She announced confidently, absolutely sure of herself. There was no way she would allow herself to failure. She refused to accept it as a possibility.

Candace stood then, holding a hand out for Aria's empty ice cream carton before walking away to toss both of them in the trash. She stretched her arms up above her head and stretched out her back with a happy little noise, grinning back at Aria. "Thank you for this, Aria. I feel a lot better. You know," Candace turned back to her, still smiling. "I don't think you're giving yourself enough credit. You're a better leader than you seem to think. Being able to give an order and not have your subordinate complain about it? That's a good thing~. And being able to raise their spirits...that's good too. So, for what it's worth? I think you're a damn fine leader." She gave a little wave as she began to make her way toward the hole in the wall, their new 'entry point'. "If you ever need me for anything don't hesitate to call or text me, okay? I'll always make time for you, ma'am."

She left then, humming a happy little tune as she practically skipped out the hole. She had a lot to do in not a lot of time. Two missions, five division courses. Let the fun begin!
