It was one of those winter nights you hope, and even assume, no one else is as crazy as you to go out and yet you knew people would be out. It was like people couldn't help it, or the city really didn't get much sleep. The wind howled and sent dead branches into the air and across streets while old windows, and even new ones, creaked and groaned from the force of the wind whipping around the city.

It was a night he didn't want to be out and yet here he was. He was out and gathering energy, tonight was one of the nights designated on his calender as an energy gathering night. So here he was out, glad for a warmish uniform, bent over a woman's slouched form. He'd left her unconscious in the process of gathering her energy, he didn't want to leave her the ability to attack him even if it was weakly. In his hand was an orb of energy - her energy.

Pale hair whipped across his face, strands were swept hastily out of his face; out of his eyes. The gloved hand holding the orb of energy went to slip the precious item into a pocket of his coat for safe keeping, till he went to turn in his nights collected energy.

It didn't take long for Shalott to lock onto and go after the offending power signature she felt weakly at first but stronger as she headed toward it. This was her area, after all, and a place she felt comfortable in. It was a bit away from home but close to Crystal Academy and an area she was familiar with. She hopped rooftops to get to him and as she moved over a rise to spot the culprit her heart froze.

Benitoite, no.

Her heart nearly broke watching him with the unconscious woman, weak and exposed to the elements. Before she woke damage could be done to her by the cold. This was not her Benitoite, the boy she came to care for! That boy was gentle and earnest and didn't treat people like this. Apparently she was mistaken.

It was impossible for Shalott not to care for him as Kyndall did but Shalott had a creed and had to abide it. Let no harm fall the innocent. Simple perhaps but something she believed in. Peace if it could be found and protection if it could not. She jumped from the roof sure he sensed her by now if he was paying attention knowing he was stronger than she. She didn't want to fight him.

"I suggest you give that back." she said as smoothly as her voice allowed. All the practice of staying calm in a crisis helped with that aim. "and anything else you've stolen tonight."

He'd sensed someone coming his way and was prepared for it, he might not want to fight but he would if it came to it. In fact he'd been avoiding battles, perhaps for too long. The nightmares had subsided and seemed to only raise their ugly heads, and invade his dreams, on the rare occasion now. Perhaps he could handle drawing his weapon once again, and see if his practice had paid off.

Turning, a slow smile creeping across fair features. "I don't believe I will. I do have a duty to collect what energy I can. As for anything else being taken I'm offended, to be assumed to be some common thief." And he did sound offended by such a thought being leveled at him. He didn't know who this knight was, he really didn't know what they could do aside from carry a shield and throw water, but he was confident it wasn't much of anything. So he did approach in a slow and deliberate manner, his arms coming to rest across his chest as they folded. Blond bangs splayed across his face by the wind.

"You should leave, find something else to busy yourself with." It was like the opposite side of the same coin. The same manners and calm voice but his actions weren't as kind as they had been to the civilian Kyndall. This was a knight he was facing and he was business, rather than niceness. Niceness was reserved for those he had joined the Negaverse to protect.

"I can make you."

She didn't want to, though, and begged him silently not to make her try. She couldn't imagine fighting him but Kyndall's thoughts had no room in Shalott's life. She wanted to work with compassion and move toward peace but the theft of energy was just something she couldn't abide and she didn't consider that peaceful. She listened to him, trying not to betray her own emotions and surprised by his attitude.

"One person's energy rarely satisfies your kind. You can't blame me for thinking it."

How could he condescend to her? Of course he didn't know who she was but he was nothing like she knew him. Was this the image she didn't see? How could two such different sides exist in one person. While he was still cool and polite there was a glint of defiance and ice to his tone. She put her hands to her hips, holding her ground. She wouldn't be swayed by this even if she did know him.

"I'm not leaving and you will give it back. I can't let you take it."

They both knew he was more powerful than she was but she knew skills he did not have. She relied on that to help her. It was the only advantage she had.

"You are correct, one persons doesn't satisfy. That is why I go out and gather from many." So casual, it was nothing to him. It really wasn't stealing to him, gathering or collecting. he didn't see it as stealing, never had and likely never would. That much was obvious with just how calmly he spoke and the words he used.

"As much as you may think you can enforce your ideals upon me I'd beg to differ." And as he spoke his arms unfolded from across his chest. Slowly they shifted position as he summoned his weapon. He wasn't taking the chance, this one wanted him to give the energy back and he simply wasn't about to comply, he doubted she'd back down without attempting to force him to abide by her wish.

The large brush he held in his hands was comfortable by now, the weight familiar, and the brush neatly flopped to point down toward the ground. "Am I going to have to earn the right to keep what I gathered?"
PostPosted: Tue Jan 17, 2012 12:40 am

"Benitoite, I'm so disappointed in you."

She couldn't help it. The words simply tumbled out before she could stop them. He didn't actually know her in this form and she'd just given away she knew him...or his name in any case. It was a motherly phrase, something deeply ingrained into her mind. Stealing people's energy. While she didn't think it had any lasting effects there were the people he claimed to want to protect. The people he claimed to care about. How could he steal from them if that was so?

"But..."

But soon his weapon appeared and she fell silent, the out for their fight on the tip of her tongue. She was content to let him be but once he pulled a weapon on her, however fitting it might be, she couldn't help but sigh softly. This seemed unavoidable. No matter how much she cared for him they were still on two opposite sides of the fence and she knew, knew, that this would affect them if she saw him outside of her own uniform. And she knew him as a boy, a civilian? She frowned wishing she knew who it was.

"You don't want to do this." She warned, wanting peace for everyone and meaning that above all else. "Please don't make me do this."

Startled at hearing his name he stared at her for a moment. He hadn't given his name so how was it she knew? Did she knew someone who knew him, who'd gone and described and named him to her? He could only assume that, nothing else made sense as far as he was concerned. Not for one moment did he link this Page to Kyndall, he had no reason to connect the two to each other.

The hold on his brush tightened as he watched her, listened to her. "Then leave, this is the last chance I'll give. I will not bend to your wish. Either leave or prepare yourself." He wouldn't play nice, he couldn't afford to. He may have encountered knights before but he'd gotten a mixed bag with them and didn't know fully what to expect with this one. He saw no shield nor bowl of water, he saw nothing, but it seemed whatever items they carried varied so he knew she had something. What though he didn't know, and he'd never experienced their magic.

Heartbroken, and it must have showed on her face, she shrugged. She couldn't let him go. It would set a dangerous precedent for herself and would go against everything she believed in. He didn't know that because he didn't know her but he'd learn soon enough. It broke her heart that her first real fight with the Negaverse was him, someone she loved.

"I can't..."

But she didn't say more. What else was there to say? She got into a defensive position. A paint brush, no matter how big, was just like a staff and she knew how to defend with staves from martial arts class. It wasn't ideal without one of her own but she could do it. She had the techniques and she had the will power. Everything else was a simple case of mind over matter. She had to stop caring so much and do her job. Right now the job was simple, take back what he'd stolen - go for the orb of energy.

"I guess you'll have to defeat me then."

For a moment he'd hoped she would turn away with those words 'I can't'. But luck wasn't on his side, he wouldn't have the quite night gathering energy he'd wanted. But he thought with mild amusement that it was about time he got back to fighting, to gaining in strength. He wasn't being held back by the demons which had plagued his sleep. He could do this.

Watching her get into some position, he had no martial arts training, he shifted a bit so he could balance his hold on his weapon before he went in, shifting his hold quickly, gloved hands siding down the wooden length of the brush, his hands stopped at the point bottom as he swung the brush end at her with as much force as he could generate. Using the brush's' own heavier brush end as a counter balance to give more force to his swing. He imagined it was much like swinging a baseball bat, you held the lighter and smaller end while hitting with the heavier and larger end. It was similar to that, only the item in question was larger considerably.

She hadn't thought he'd actually do it though she didn't know why. He clearly had no recognition of who she was and was defiant that she should ruin his fun. She ducked his first swing easily, dipping under the wood to let it bash into the wall to the side of them. The shock of that, she hoped, would reverberate through the wooden thing back to his arm. She couldn't bring herself to directly harm him and lashed out a leg as his knees, since she was down low already, hoping to get him on his back to break the energy orb.

She couldn't even bring herself to quip properly or tell him he'd made a bad choice choosing her for an opponent. Someone practiced and toned beneath a teacher's facade. Or, in this case, a Page's. Instead she made her blow and then made to stand, looking to him to see what had happened. Half of her was still tempted to run and avoid the conflict where it lay.

"Beni, you don't want to fight me."

But she was slowly steeling herself to be able to fight him. To hurt him if she had to in order to make sure people stayed safe. No doubt he'd attack again if he could and she wanted to be ready for it.

If he knew who she was...maybe, likely, this wouldn't be. But she didn't know who he was either, for if that were the case this wouldn't be happening either. But this didn't pass through his mind as he found himself smashing his brush into the stone wall and shocked as he jammed his hold on the brush forward and pushed the brush into his chest. Shocked by this he was even more shocked when he found himself on the ground quite suddenly.

Staring up at her he shook his thoughts away, any comment he'd have made dashed, as he gripped his brush and while still on the ground thrust the pointed end up and toward the Page. Watching, hoping it found it's mark, as he climbed to his feet.

"That would be your opinion, mine is quite different I assure you." At least right now, being ignorant of the fact this was Kyndall. He hadn't even noticed the bursting of the energy orb in his pocket, it seemed his pocket when he'd fallen had found itself between his body and the ground. Poor orb, energy released and headed back to the person it had been gathered from.

She watched as everything happened as expected and he went down. She was not, however, expecting him to attack from the ground and grunted as his hit connected, sending her stumbling back a few paces, dazed. The pointed piece caught her chest and made it ache a little and her breathing uneven. He certainly could pack a hit with that paintbrush of his. She gave him a hard look, ready now and willing to do what was necessary.

"Yes, I suppose you'll do what it takes." she replied evenly.

Of course he'd want to fight her now that she'd caused him to get hurt and made him look foolish. Of course he'd want to get even. She'd challenged him and as she caught her breath she moved forward, ready to prove it in earnest. She didn't know her main goal was accomplished and energy was rushing back into the mostly unconscious woman slumped over nearby. A small favor among a bigger problem, to be sure. And if she woke the complications would be exaggerated tenfold.

Kyndall launched into a basic punch, kick, punch combo aimed at different vital areas on her foe, determined not to be weak now.

He'd been in enough fights where he'd wound up on the ground so Benitoite had learned to strike from the ground, it was better than leaving himself compleatly open to being further attacked. While she had backed up he was glad for the space between them it provided, it gave him room and time to asses.

He didn't want to fight her because sheMd landed him on his a**. He wanted to fight her because she thought she could tell him what to do, he didn't take orders from the other side.

As she moved in and launched her attack he stumbled back, his weapon vanishing as it was in the way now, Benitoite gathered himself. Ignoring the fact he would likely have bruises come nights end the blond moved in to return the attack. He lacked training, he didn't have posistions or moves, he punched as he saw fit and aimed to where he figured she was weak.

Shalott let her instincts take over, relying on years of training. She didn’t want to but he’d already proven standing back was no option. She didn’t know she’d accomplished her goal to get the energy returned as she launched into an attack, keeping him intimidated and on the defensive. She needed that edge, too, in order to keep him on his toes and not have to hurt him too much.

The woman behind them was slowly waking, the energy hardly left her body than it was returned.

Shalott pressed him, pushing him back and away from the woman, aiming a kick to his hip. She was focused on quick thinking and getting him down with the least amount of trauma. She loved him and this was nearly killing her, but he had no idea who she was and she knew now that he could never know. There was a side to him she’d never seen before. She didn’t like it.

And, of course, she’d never connect the dots to smart, sweet Alexandre.

No, it was some blessing which kept everyone from connecting the dots between civilian and powered, it kept everyone safe. Some power above kept them all safe, at least in this small way. Though he really didn't think of powers above existing.

Backed up by the Knight's assault he kept taking steps back while aiming his fists when and where he could. Finally he dropped and kicked out and up toward a knee. If he could bring her down he could hopefully keep her down. He wouldn't kill her, he couldn't, but that didn't mean he was going to go easy and not attack her as seriously as he could.

Already he was ignoring the blood dribbling from his lip, he'd bitten down hard during one of her well placed punches. The blood was licked from his lip as he waited to see if she'd fall, hoping she'd fall.
