It had become her favorite place to patrol for energy when she was alone. It wasn't often she had a partner, arranged or otherwise, and so more and more Chromite had found herself bounding along fire escapes to get to the tops of the highest of the buildings in the downtown Destiny City shopping district. The remnants of still clinging snow made the rooftop slippery and the young lieutenant found herself hating her uniform's length yet again. "Damned bare legs," she breathed out in a frustrated huff. "This is a military not a stupid fashion show."
Rolling her eyes, she at least was thankful for her gloves as she rested her elbows against the rooftop ledge and watched the people below go about on their way. There were so little of them and all of them seemed as though they were dragging their feet and so low on energy already. Still it was an escape from her day to day life and she at least felt like she was doing something, anything, to contribute. Just by being out. So Chromite kept watching and waiting as unwitting humans scurried about like so many little ants and hoped that something would come along to ease her boredom or give her the energy she needed to relax for a day or so before needing to collect more.

He'd actually been shopping -- shock and awe. Not shopping the way Chromite would, powered down, not trying on clothes or eyeing what he liked on the mannequin and coming back for it later. Instead, he'd been shopping for essentials: a 10 plain white t-shirts, bundled up in plastic. The total had been low, the goods cheap, but still enough to leave him grumbling.
Ten steps out of the Target and around the corner and he'd powered back up. His energy signal flicking on, prepared to head back toward home the easy way, Ilmenite drew to a halt, blinking at as he looked up and over a few buildings. He couldn't see the girl, but he knew there was someone there, for sure, and that alone was enough to make him curious.
A few quick steps, one brief look, and then he teleported, appearing beside her on the roof, also staring off the edge. It would have been impressive if he hadn't still been holding on to his Hanes 10-pack.

She hadn't been paying attention, and being a lieutenant her ability to read signatures of any kind was fairly limited, so it surprised the hell out of her when the tall and lanky officer just appeared next to her. The bag of shirts going largely unnoticed. "********!" She had only turned her head to look at who was suddenly there. He was familiar in that she'd seen him on a number of occasions in The Rift but that was where any knowledge of the man ended. "A little warning next time," she paused and peered, "General?" Was he a General? He looked like he should be. Standing next to her he felt like he should be. Either way the question was there and it was painfully obvious that she wasn't actually sure what rank he was or who he was.
The Negaverse may be a family but it was an increasingly large family nonetheless.

Ilmenite offered her a grin -- brief, unapologetic, and also fortunately taking no offense to her cursing. He twisted in place to perch on the edge of the roof, his back to the people below, and gave her a very quick once over. He didn't quite wince. He was sympathetic to her outfit, even if he'd been fortunate enough to only wear his shorts in the springtime....
"General Ilmenite. What are you doing up here, Lieutenant? Watching anyone good?" He was in an increasingly bright mood: shopping done, he kept the fresh pack of shirts carefully curled against his side, halfway obscured, as he watched her.

She twisted her body in kind and boosted herself to sit on the ledge with her knees tucked under her chin and her arms wrapped her shins to give them some warmth. Glancing over her shoulder at the world below she shrugged and flicked a stray rock off into no where. "No one worth a thing." Looking up she smiled thinly at Ilmenite.
"What's a general doing out and about the streets any how," she pried. It wasn't a smart idea but inquiring minds needed to know. "Don't you have Grand Schemes and War to plan?" She knew that if she ever made it to the top tier he was in that's what she'd do. It seemed natural that all Generals, even Captains, would be busy with more than just energy collecting.

"You can't Grand Scheme every night." It was flippant, absent, and probably just about a perfect answer: it didn't lie to her, and it held just enough mystery that Ilmenite could pretend he did, sometimes, dedicate his time to it. Even if, as of yet, most of his time had been spent playing catchup, learning new abilities, gathering energy... And, well. Meeting lieutenants. He was doing pretty well at that, at least. The mystery came down with a flash of a smile, as he raised his fresh new t-shirts. At least they hadn't been boxers, tonight. He'd stolen enough of those from Walmart to manage just fine. "Sometimes you have to do a little shopping." lolli mchotpants I'm marking this thread as 'inactive' in my list; if you tag, please let me know via IM or quote?
