Did she just ... did that chick really just ...
Connor had been walking home from the grocery store, bopping his head to some unknown beat, brown paper bags full of yummy ingredients when he saw her. It had to be the most badass chick in Destiny City. Full cloak, a spear with glowing LED lights or something, and a devilish look in her eyes? What wasn't cool about that?
Curious, he had followed her. Not in a creepy stalker way or anything ... Well maybe in a completely creepy stalker way, but he was curious! After all, most people didn't run around town in outfits like this.
What he found was the opposite of cool. She was taking something out of a person ... and he was just lying there- ...
What the hell had he just witnessed?

The Negaverse General was usually very careful about her energy draining endeavors. Especially when she was aiming to take a starseed, as she so rarely did. But this was important: this was for the greater good. The starseed was a symbol, a threat, and its use was key to make the proper impression she needed.
So she needed to take one.
It so happened that she had chosen this night to do it. She happened to be in the park, happened to think she was alone. She felt for any aura, stretching her senses out as far as she could, in an effort to be as prepared as possible. She had managed to catch this guy while he wasn't suspecting a thing. It was easier and easier to do: sneaking was almost effortless now.
Maybe she had mastered her craft. She did not want to think that yet, because that would leave her no where else to go. And how could she keep striving for nothing?
She let the body fall, looking at the pretty gem she had taken from inside him. Without it, there was no life for him to keep living, but she knew he wasn't dying in vain. She looked up, though, and was stunned to see a pair of wide eyes watching her. For all her caution to avoid being caught by a powered opponent, she hadn't thought to watch out for civilians creeping around.
How could she have forgotten something so important? She had just assumed she was safely alone, this hour of night, dragging the man to this corner of the park. They were off the path, and it was dark and creepy. Yet here was a young man watching her, fresh from the grocery store, it seemed. She grinned at him.
"Enjoying the show, my little pet?" She imagined she would just have to kill him, too. Two starseeds had not been in her plan: two lives was a bit of a stretch for her to justify in her own mind on such a leisurely night, but she would do as she had to.

Connor's mouth was gaping. Were there hidden cameras somewhere? Was this the part where everyone said "psyche! You're on Punk'd!" Sure this happened in video games all the time- this was just looting- but not in real life. Never in real life.
He was pretty damn sure those were just nice effects. "Ahhh, I'm not your pet..." he said absently, his eyes lax, "I think I'll just leave you two alone." Abandoning ship sounded pretty good.
Note to self: stop stalking cool chicks.

Painite vanished from in front of him the moment he took one step back to act on his words. Escape? No, that wasn't an option for him. He had very few options, in fact, but she was interested in him now. And when she got interested in someone, that usually worked in their favor.
Well. Maybe usually was a generous word to use. Interest also meant the feelings she had for her enemies, and what made the greatest of rivals or targets.
She reappeared behind him, starseed safely tucked away now, but her weapon was still in her hands. She held it casually, and she smiled at him pleasantly. She might not have been the tallest person, but she could still cut and intimidating figure when she wanted to.
And she wanted to.
"Not yet, maybe. I wonder how I didn't hear you walking up on me. You must have some light feet there," she said, almost conversationally. But not quite. There was an edge to her voice, and even without saying anything threatening the implication was there.

AW s**t WHERE'D SHE GO?!
Connor was losing his cool now; something that didn't happen very often at all. He didn't even have time to gasp or shriek as the lady appeared behind him now. Oh God, was this one of those terrorists he'd been hearing about on the news from time to time? Not that he ever watched the news- it was mostly the commercials in between his shows, but-
"Uhhh lady," he said, hesitating, "I guess I have light feet, but uh. There's not need to point-" His eyes flitted to her spear, "Fingers." This chick was obviously taking her cosplay way too far. Sometimes you needed to learn when to quit, man.

Painite grinned at his surprise. It was fun, making people feel doubt and fear. Make them question what they knew and what they saw. People did not just disappear and reappear: that made no sense.
She chuckled.
"Oh, I wasn't. Those light feet of yours are what have kept you alive this long. I'm a little surprised, to see someone able to sneak up on me. Especially someone lacking my kind of power. I can only imagine what you would be able to do with it."
She grinned at him, tilting her head. Did he have what it took to be a member of the Negaverse? She wasn't sure yet, but why not entertain the idea?
They could always use new members. She saw something in him that reminded her of her Lieutenants so far. That little spark they all shared, that interested her in them.

Now this was just going overboard. Powers? She was definitely taking this cosplay too seriously. Then again, the crystal ripping ... and the disappearing ... Part of him wanted to know how she'd done that, and part of him said to get the ******** away. He was in way too over his head, and he wanted to stop it from spinning. It was time to bow out.
Nudging her spear out of the way tentatively, he said, "Uhhh okay. You keep your powers or whatever chickadee. I'm gonna go home. Make some food." He gestured to the bags.
It was then that he remembered the person on the bench behind him. The one that looked ... well slightly passed out. Were they maybe doing drugs? Connor was pretty sure his local park wasn't the place for drug addicts, but then again, everywhere got them once or twice. Maybe that was the explanation for her ... odd vernacular. "Uhh. He's alright, yeah?" he said. Best just to check.

"Well, there's only one way you'll get home to make your food before is spoils," Painite said, not letting him get away from her. She smiled without warmth, however kind her expression was, or how innocent her eyes seemed.
She grinned at his question.
"You don't seem to know what's going on around this city. Walking alone through the park at night. Haven't you heard the reports? There are dangerous things going bump in the night. Unexplained deaths."
She watched him, getting a bit more serious.
"Haven't you heard of the terrorists? Oh. And he's dead. So, he's as alright as a corpse can be, I suppose. And you'll join him, I'm afraid, if you're not careful and listen to what I'm offering you."

... the <******** chick just murdered that guy and terrorists and what?! Now he was definitely losing his cool. You know what though? He was a wimp. If someone offered him death by spear or listening to the lady holding the spear- he was gonna pick listening.
"Uh. O-Okay lady. Just calm down. I'll listen. Can you put the spear down? I dunno what I did, but we can talk this out, right?" He gave an awkward laugh. She wasn't really going to kill him ... right?!!?

Painite laughed at him. So he was a little bit of a wuss, but she could help him with that. She watched him, looking scared. Poor thing, had no idea the trouble he was in. Well, maybe the sharp spear was a good hint.
"We can talk. I want to talk. Like I said, I'm pretty surprised you snuck up on me. I usually don't let that happen. Are you scared? It's okay if you are, I would be, too, if I were in your shoes. But what I'm saying is... what would you say to being in my shoes? Having power like mine? Getting rid of the terrorists you hear about on the news would be an added bonus, of course."
She watched him coolly, clearly in her element and feeling nothing but grace and confidence.
"All you have to do is trust me, and I'll give you power beyond your wildest dreams. A way to defend yourself, you friends, and to be more than... whatever it is you are now. Shaking and lacking any sort of purpose. Someone no one would miss if you died tonight."

Damn she was scary. But like, in a cool way. Connor's mind was becoming fuddled, and he was starting to actually believe what she was feeding him. There was a way to get magic powers and s**t? That actually sounded ... kinda cool ...
But wait! This wasn't some superhero movie, this was real life. Real life people didn't have powers.
"Is this like ... some ad campaign? 'Cause if so lady, I'm not buying," he said calmly, clearly not understanding the gravity of the situation.
Those powers though ... they sounded really cool. Maybe he could just be a temporary superhero, like batman. Goddamn Connor loved Batman.
Wait was she insulting him? Now that wasn't cool. "Listen lady, I'm not weak." He seemed to suddenly remember that he was a tad taller than her, and puffed out his chest a bit more. His manly pride was kicking in.
Something about her speech did hit home though. He wasn't the strongest kid on the block, and he was pretty damn alone at this point. Sure he had friends and family, but he was estranged from his family and his friends ... well. Protecting them might be kinda nice ... "But ... if you're gonna keep talking, I'll listen." That was his roundabout way of telling her his interest was piqued.

Painite grinned. She knew she had him. He wasn't running, not that he had a choice, but he was defending himself and still asking her to talk. She could see the spark, though it was well hidden by his demeanor.
He was a risk, but she had taken risks before. And usually they paid off.
"I do not have much else to say," Painite said easily, shrugging her shoulders and leaning toward him as she sized him up. He was standing up straighter now, she noted. She smirked. "I could show you, if you're not scared. There's no going back."
Of course, there was no going anywhere if he didn't take the risk with her.

Now she was just taunting him. Connor hated being taunted above all else. Why? Because he always gave in to the taunt.
"Do it," was all he said, before she was even finished. s**t he shouldn't have done that. No going back? What did that mean? All of his fears were beginning to well up at once, much to his dismay.
It was like the lady said though. There was no going back at this point. What was done was done.

Painite grinned.
So she had coerced him a bit, forced his hand. So he had no real idea what he was getting into. She liked him, and she was going to show him a brand new world that he had never even imagined before. That he would thrive in, she was certain, and he would succeed in.
It was not like she was lying: she would give him access to everything she had promised and more.
But first.
"This might sting a little," she said sweetly, as if she were going to use alcohol to clean a scrape on his knee. Her tone held an almost motherly affection in it, after all, but the whole idea of something caring and gentle was tossed out the window as her hand moved into his chest. She wrapped her small hand around his starseed with a well practiced ease, looking at him for a moment, knowing he would be stunned and confused, before she let the real fun begin.
Chaos moved from her into the starseed, which caused a terrible amount of pain for the recipient. Corruption was not a fun process, but she knew from her own experience that the pain would pass, and what would be left would be power. Unless she lost focus and went too far, of course. Then there would be a twisted husk of a human being, a shadow of crawling murk and wickedness that they had come to call youma.
She'd avoid that one.
Eyes glued to his as she worked, she was very calm and focused. Her face was relaxed, even prettily serene, which was a change from all the devious grins she had been giving him before. Not that he would really be able to take note of something so trivial at the moment. She drew her hand back when she was finished, and waited for her new Lieutenant to gather himself.

Woah woah woah. Was she trying to make a move on him? Her hand was slowly going towards his chest (was it really slow? It felt like it was moving in slow motion, that was for sure). Was she some sort of cree-
WHAT THE ******** WAS THAT?
A crystal ... no ... a ... thing came out of his CHEST. His ******** chest! Last time he checked, humans didn't have giant prism chunks implanted in their rib cage, let alone their heart.
He didn't have too much time to ponder the wonder of it though, because he was busy going through EXCRUCIATING PAIN. Broken little gasps escaped his mouth (and there might of been a scream or two, but he'd never admit to that. Manly pride and what not).
Once the lady took a few steps back, he took a moment to gasp a bit more, breathing heavily. Owwww man, ******** that'd hurt. He couldn't speak for a moment, but when he looked down he found himself in new clothing. She'd done all that for a clothing change?
He found something in his hand too. A ... mouse? Why was he carrying a mouse? He didn't remember bringing it out of the house with him ... Wait his mouse wasn't even white. He had a black one with these cool LED lights on the si-
Focus! "Uhhh lady? You wanna ... explain?" He felt oddly anxious and repressed. Like he could run forever and never get tired, but this lady was keeping him in this spot. He felt ... good.
