Name: Amarilla Cook

Nicknames: None

Gender: Female

Age: 21

Birthday: April 24

Fav. Food: Chili

Hated Food: Cherry or grape flavored sodas

School: Destiny City University

Profession: Majoring in Marine Science

Gemstone: Diamond

Hobbies:

Sketching: Amarilla enjoys sitting outside on nice days and sketching the scenery around her. If it's raining, then she will stay indoors and draw animals. She draws in a slightly cartoonish style, with some manga style thrown in and the whole thing chibi-fied. She's at her best when she's drawing cute and fluffy creatures in adorable settings, and doesn't do well with realistic drawings. Even when she is drawing scenery, everything seems slightly more rounded than it is in real life. Her friends love her drawings, and have convinced her to enter them in a couple contests. She's taken second and an honorable mention. All of her cards she gives for birthdays and christmas are hand drawn, and she receives many compliments on them.

Jogging: Amarilla is an active person. She loves to be outside and jogging is a way for her to do both things at once! It's only natural for her to do two mile morning jogs every day, and jogging is a good way for Amarilla to learn the lay of the town, and meet new people.

Collecting: Amarilla collects wolf paraphernalia. Wolves are one of the few things that can unconditionally hold her attention. When she was younger and her parents would take her to the zoo, she would spend most of her time sitting in front of the wolf enclosure, watching them with utter fascination. She has wolf things of all sorts in her room, from stuffed toys on her bed to figurines on her shelves. She's even taken the pictures from old calenders and covered her walls with them.

Window Shopping: Amarilla doesn't like to spend money unless she absolutely has to. That new outfit in the window of Hollystar sure does look cute, but in the window is where it shall remain. Amarilla is content to just walk form store to store, browsing their selections and gawking at all the lovely clothes, jewelry, furniture. She takes delight in feeling the fabric, sitting on the couch and trying on the sunglasses, but rarely the desire to actually buy anything. She can spend a whole afternoon meandering and buy nothing but a banana-strawberry-blueberry smoothie.

Virtues:

Honest - Amarilla can't lie. Like, she is unable to lie about anything, anytime. So if she says that she doesn't like you, believe it. If you ask her for advice, she will give it to you without a bit of hesitation. She does realize that certain things are not polite to say. If someone asks her if she likes a shirt, she will not say "I hate that shirt." She will be honest, but not rude. So she would say something like "I'm not fond of that shirt" or "This one is much better". She may tone it down a bit, but she will not flat out lie. There is one exception, and that would be if someone were to ask her if she was a senshi/knight/ect. This is an exception because she know that by lying, she is protecting herself and other people.

Positive- In Amarilla's mind, not only does every cloud have a silver lining, but every star, house, tree and person. She believes that there is good in everything and everyone, and she's the person the bring it out. She gives everyone the benefit of the doubt until they prove themselves to be anything but angelic. And Amarilla means well, she really does. She tries her hardest to get along with people, fight the good fight, and in general be a decent person. Unfortunately, her good intentions sometimes turn things into a bigger problem than a solution....especially when the person she is trying to bring the good out in does not want her help at all. And she borders over enthusiasm, which often results in overcooked cupcakes for the school bake sale.

Comfortable/Confident : Amarilla is comfortable with herself, her life and her friends. She likes the way she looks, and that gives her confidence in herself. She is proud of what she has accomplished, and that means that she is difficult to bring down.

Polite: Manners were of the utmost importance to her grandparents, and that passed onto Amarilla. There is a way to address everything in a tactful way, and Amarilla has an entire book of manners locked inside her head. From morning routines, meal times, and transportation, there were courtesies to be taken. And she is going to make sure that she follows all of them. She knows that she cannot control the actions of others. When she sees others that are not being polite, she feels a bit of anxiety and will sometimes nicely make suggestions. If they are ignored, her anxiety grows and she may have to leave the room.
.
Flaws:

Naive:- Her positivity and willingness to believe that everyone is a good person at heart can often stray into nativity. She has a hard time accepting when people betray her, but at the same time wants to give them a second chance, thinking that maybe this time they will change. She isn't very street smart, whether it be from her personality or because she was a floating soul for a while, and isn't used to present day. This makes her more susceptible to tricks and traps.

Flighty:- Amarilla has a short attention span. Maybe it's because she has a childish streak, or maybe because she's just so interested in everything. But she loves to explore, and nothing can hold her attention for long.

Indecisive:- Amarilla has a hard time making decisions. This is in part due to her short attention span. She bounces from subject to subject, and bores easily with one thing after a little while. When it comes to deciding between two things, or two actions, she will often ponder every outcome possible before making a decision. Multiple scenarios go though her head before she even attempts to make a clear cut decision on the situation at hand, if she even makes a decision at all! She might just forget about it and move on to something else. In a battle situation, her hesitance could cost her the battle, or cause her or her teammates injury as it gives the enemy time to strike first. And then if the odds turn against her or her teammates start to do better than her, she tends to reach into her petty side..

Petty:- Amarilla is generally a happy-go-lucky individual. But cross her specific line, and she could teach bullheadedness to the cow itself. She refuses to listen, give in, give up, or any other method of compromise when she's reached this point. In battle, if she happens to be losing, she may just stop fighting altogether. On the flip side, she may also fight harder, wanting to punish the person not listening to her and letting her win. Amarilla tends to hold grudges, and she is much more vocal about them than the average person. If it's a teammate that's incurred her wrath, she may simply not help them when they need someone to assist them. If it's an enemy, she will jump at every chance to attack them, even if they aren't doing anything wrong.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Hair: Her hair is a bright pink, and is very long. Like to her hips or lower if the artist doesn't mind drawing that. it is also tied off at the bottom into two sections, and she has bangs that curl slightly.

This is the reference. Her hair doesn't have to be THAT long, but a similar style would be awesome.

Another example of hair from the side:
[X]

Eyes: Brown and round.

Build: Around 5' 5", slender, but not overly skinny.

Fashion: She like cute but slightly conservative clothes. Longer skirts and sundresses, shirts that aren't low cut, but form fitting jackets. Her jeans are never tight and fit more loosely. Her favorite accessories are gloves, and she can't wait until winter every year so she can wear them!

Family:

Parents: Her parents were young lovers, and she was born when her mother was only 16. Not wanting the responsibility of caring for a baby, her mother wanted to give her up for adoption. But her mother's parents, Amarilla's grandparents would have none of it. They fell in love with the tiny child and decided that they were going to raise her in her mother's stead. So, her mother and father gave up Amarilla, and moved out of state, and the letters and phone calls steadily declined. Now it has been three years since Amarilla has heard her mother's and father's voice. So her grandparents are her "mother" and "father", and she calls them this, preferring to refer to her biological parents by their first names, Jade and Bryan. Amarilla currently lives on her own with Dylan, her neighbor for years. But she visits her grandparents at least once a week.

Grandmother- Isabelle Cook Age: 62

Isabella Payne is a quiet type of grandmother/mother. She prefers for Amarilla to figure things out on her own, but will always be around to give her advice and remind her that is is still a child, and she should be out having fun, not spending the day looking after her and "Father" as she likes to call her husband around Amarilla. She has the typical grandmother look: Shorter, with thicker white hair that she gave up dying years ago, worn in a low braid or curled around her soft, smiling face. Her eyes are the same shade of brown as Amarilla's, as well as her mothers.

Grandfather Benjamin Cook Age: 65

Benjamin Payne, or Ben as he is called by everyone he knows, is a happy, bouncy guy for his age. He loves being outdoors, and when Amarilla was younger, they would go on adventures through the "wilds of Africa" in the back garden, and sail "the ocean blue" as pirates off the patio. He isn't afraid to get dirty, and it saddens him to see Amarilla acting so enclosed sometimes. He, as well as his wife, are always encouraging her to go to sporting events, out with friends, go on dates "Just no funny business!" He is a taller man, with muscle tone that is slowly starting to fade with age. He has a square face, with a salt and pepper goatee and wispy black/gray hair on his head.

Honorary Brother Dylan Sampson Age: 22

Dylan has been Amarilla's neighbor for her entire life. They met in second grade, and have been very good friends ever since. When the sandy haired boy decided to move closer to DCU so he could study forensics, he asked Amarilla is she wanted to go too, and of course she agreed. Now they live a brisk ten minute walk from DCU in a tidy two bedroom apartment. Dylan is bookish and quiet with purple eyes and dark skin.

Knight Title: Esquiline Page

Challenge: "Love is always on your mind!"

Color Reference: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Uniform: ELEMENTS TO THINK ABOUT FOR UNIFORM

Main Color: Light Gold from the swatch
Secondary: White
Accent/ Tertiary: Dark Gold from the swatch

Top -- Corset-like top with front lacing. Long sleeves end near the elbow that flare out at the bottom perhaps? Square, low neckline.
Bottoms -- Skirt, poofy and lacy. White leggings, perhaps also embellished with the venus symbol?
Gloves -- Yes. Style and color up to colorist.
Belt -- No belt
Shoes -- maybe in the bottom style? color up to colorist.
Shoulders -- sheer shawl that connects to the top with a brooch of the venus symbol.
Accessories -- Lace! And a necklace in a teardrop shape diamond. Hair ties gold in color, or even ribbons.

And of course, the colorist can change/take out/add whatever they like!

Weapon -- Kogai Kanzashi these are hair ornaments worn by geishas and were said to be used sometimes in self defense. They are very pretty smile

Page: The kogai kanzashi is a couple inches in length. Made of plastic. She can give a good poke with it. Simple design

Squire: The kogai kanzashi is now a foot in length. Made of wood. Still really only good for a good poke, though it can be used to channel magic now. Now it has a more ornate design, with the symbol of Venus now present.

MAGIC: ABILITY: Distract
Esquiline channels her magic through the hair ornament, and her ability affects enemies in a distraction sort of way. She points the hair ornament at her foe, and they suddenly think of something they love, or are passionate about. That idea cycles through their head, and becomes the predominant thought for 30-35 seconds maximum, though shorter times are likely as people move about and her pool of magic is used up. The foe must remain within a 6 foot circle of Esquiline, and she must concentrate fully on holding up her ornament and using the magic, leaving her open to attacks. If she drops the ornament, or lowers it from its outward position, the magic stops. The ornament only needs to be pointed at the enemy to direct the magic initially, not to keep it going. So the foe can move away from its pointed direction, but can still feel the magic. If the person does not have a passion or something to love, then this power does not affect them. If their passion is something negative, like fighting or the Negaverse, then the power might actually make them more focused or distract them just like a positive one.

Knight: The kogai kanzashi is still a foot in length. Made of metal. The edges are a little bit sharper so it stings more to be hit by it. The design is very pretty, and a jewel now resides in the center of the Venus symbol.

MAGIC: ABILITY: Distract
Esquiline channels her magic through the hair ornament, and her ability affects enemies in a distraction sort of way. She points the hair ornament at two foes, and they suddenly think of something they love, or are passionate about. That idea cycles through their head, and becomes the predominant thought for 35-40 seconds maximum, though shorter times are more likely as people move about and her pool of magic is used up.. The foes must remain within a 10 foot circle of Esquiline, and she must concentrate fully on holding up the ornament and using the magic, leaving her open to attacks. If she drops the ornament, or lowers it from its outward position, the magic stops. If either person leaves her circle of magic, they both are able to shake off the thoughts. If the two people move away form eachother, it becomes easier to shake off the passionate thought because she has to split the magic over a larger portion of the 10 foot circle. The ornament only needs to be pointed at the enemy to direct the magic initially, not to keep it going. So the two foes can move away from its pointed direction, but can still feel the magic. If the person does not have a passion or something to love, then this power does not affect them. If their passion is something negative, like fighting or the Negaverse, then the power might actually make them more focused or distract them just like a positive one.

Note: Enemies are still able to fight. The distraction doesn't completely occupy their mind, so they could fight it. It just occupies an annoying large part of thought, or pops up at a difficult time. Like a song that gets stuck in your head.

FURTHER EXPLANATION!
PostPosted: Sun Jan 15, 2012 4:06 pm

Hey Melons!

I got pinged for this for Shalott so I thought I'd give you a heads up...knight weapons are not supposed to be offensive and should be used mainly to channel magic. The particular hair ornament in question can actually be quite deadly, especially if made from metal and poked through the right body part.

I also tried to have my garland shift and I was told to focus on the magic.

I'd suggest changing the progression, perhaps, and go from plastic to painted wood and then to ornate metal?

Oh ok! I'll change that around! Thanks!
PostPosted: Sun Jan 15, 2012 5:00 pm

I like this character a lot and I really like her weapon and how it's not makeup like most Venus knight weapons.

The thing that stood out to me the most was that Honest and Polite contradict each other a bit. You've written honest as if it's bordering on blunt, which is fine. How much is she willing to bend the truth for politeness's sake without considering it a lie and therefore unspeakable? Which is more important to her? If someone asked her about a shirt or something she hated, how would she respond? Also, if someone asked her directly about being a knight/senshi directly, how would she respond? I mean, would it be believable?

Other things-

Sketching- is she good? If so, do people notice? Does she draw for others? If not, does she care or want to get better?

As far as her power, what if the person is very neutral with no real passion? Will that affect the strength? What if their passion is the Negaverse?

stari_maga

Thanks stari! You really helped me out with this!

I'll have to tweak honest and polite a bit, or even take polite out. I did mention in honest that if someone were to ask her if she were a senshi/knight/ect that she would lie, just because without this stipulation it would be far too easy to find out her identity.

I think if someone asked if she hated a shirt, and she really did, then she wouldn't say "I hate that shirt." She would say "I'm not fond of that." or "This one is much better." Like I said, I'll tweak honesty a little to fit this other virtue.

I really wanted to use something beauty related, but not in a cosmetic sort of way. I'm glad you like her weapon!

I'll also have to clarify and add to sketching. I like to think that she is decent, though improvement is always an option!

Attack: I guess if their passion is the Negaverse, they wouldn't be very distracted, which is a nice limit on her power. If they don't have a passion, or someone that loves them, then they too would not be affected by her magic. I'll add this as well.

Blue Eyed Melloon

Hey BEM! Congratulations on your contest win! The civilian side is solid.

ON THE POWERED SIDE

In her Squire and Knight magic abilities, some clarification on how the magic is cast is needed. Does she need to keep the ornament aimed at the target as she concentrates in order to keep the effect, or do they just need to be within a six-foot radius of her/the ornament while she is concentrating? If the the former, then how does she point the ornament at two foes at once in her Knight ability, as the weapon points in just one direction?

Please quote me when you have made the changes and I will give your quest another look!

Silent Spy

I hope I explained it well enough. I was basically trying to say that while the ornament needs to be pointed at the enemies to start the magic, they can move about the area and still feel the effects of her magic even if the ornament isn't pointing at them. Only when they move from the 6 foot circle, she drops the ornament, lowers it, or moves will the magic be broken.

Just want to check, are you SURE these are the time and range limitations you want? Six feet is a pretty small range, and a distraction spell is minor enough that you could get away with the max time being a good 20 seconds longer. I'm assuming here that people can still fight when they're distracted by their passions, but they get a lot sloppier because they're head isn't all the way in the game -- if I'm correct on this, please edit something to that effect into the spell description as well.

I was afraid of making her too powerful sweatdrop

For her squire, I upped the time by 15 seconds. For her Knight stage, I upped the time to five seconds longer than her squire stage and increased the range of her attack to 10 feet.
