The air of Destiny City smelled of smoke.

Aurostibite could almost taste it, several blocks down from where the fire had occurred earlier that evening. A small, homestyle restaurant had gotten too much of a grease buildup behind their stove and the wall above it had gotten too heated. No injuries - at least not this time - but the inside of the building looked as though someone had smeared black ash across every single fixture.

He had watched it happen from his perch atop a nearby roof of an old, long abandoned bank that had once been something with an "L" in the title. But for as long as he had lived in Destiny City, Aurostibite had never remembered it being open. Instead it stood, a lone, empty place - which was also, conveniently, the perfect place to keep watch. It was inconspicuously tucked in a quiet neighborhood between a bustling movie theater that far overshadowed it and an enormous old library that was filled with way too many books to ever be fully explored.

Up here, the wind was quite a bit more severe. Aurostibite pulled his coat tighter around his waist and tugged absently on the gloves wrapped around his fingers. He felt oddly jittery, as though waiting for something to happen, but so far it had been one of those quiet nights where all was calm.

At least for now.

It wasn't every night that buildings caught on fire, and Obsidian's immediate thought was that a battle had potentially taken place nearby. Imagine his disappointment when he found out that it had been just a perfectly ordinary accident! Absolutely no fun at all. His venture out there hadn't been completely in vain though, not when he sensed the unexpected flicker of a power that wasn't exactly foreign, but not quite one he recognized on a personal level.

Unfortunately for Aurostibite, teleportation came much more easily to generals than it did to captains, and so the younger Negaverse member would suddenly have to deal with hands gripping his at the back of his neck, massaging lightly at his shoulders as though they were old friends--and not complete strangers.

"Is there a reason you're taking the time to sight see, Lieutenant?" He asked lightly, settling his chin on Aurostibite's shoulder, green eyes sliding to their corners so he could better watch the man's face.

He felt the power signature sizzle through the air just before, but that didn't stop Aurostibite from jumping a good several inches in surprise anyway. It was the energy from someone several leagues above him, rank-wise, that much was obvious, but the voice did not belong to either Ilmenite or Zinkenite, the only two of higher rank that Aurostibite had even met.

Not to mention the hands that suddenly gripped his shoulders. Aurostibite felt himself tense automatically, his eyes flickering behind him to try and figure out who the hell it was, but all he got was a glimmer of red hair and the glint of gold.

"No, sir," came the almost automatic response, and Aurostibite winced. What kind of answer was that? There was a soft thump as the General's chin landed on his shoulder; a surprisingly calm and friendly gesture for a complete stranger. But despite the fact that he had no idea who this man was, Aurostibite did not move away.

Mostly out of a tense sort of apprehension than anything else.

"Er, that is to say - yes, sir, I'm patrolling. Keeping an eye out for anything...out of the ordinary."

When the younger man made to jump, his grip automatically tightened as though to make sure there was no escape--but once he realized Aurostibite had settled again, he eased up just a bit. "Out of the ordinary, Lieutenant? You mean like youma roaming the streets, and senshi, too? We live in a world that is nothing but out of the ordinary."

It was an interesting reaction, really. He couldn't think of someone that would tolerate this sort of behavior for a complete stranger--then again, maybe he didn't want to risk pissing off a superior. The thought made him grin a little, chuckling against the boy's ear before he let him go, taking a lazy step so that he could make his way around.

"How new are you exactly? I don't keep track of all the new blood anymore, I'm afraid."

Shivers of apprehension shot up and down Aurostibite's spine as the general's hands clamped tighter on his shoulders, preventing him from making any sudden movements.

Not that he would have, especially considering who was standing behind him.

The laughter was low in his ear, and Aurostibite's eyes flickered, flinching a little automatically. He wanted to ask the general's name, figure out just who he was talking to, but he refrained, mostly because he feared interrupting him would be a bad idea.

"A few weeks," Aurostibite admitted, pressing his lips together.

"My name is Lieutenant Aurostibite."
