Who: Axel and Zeke When: January 11th; about 8pm Where: Lab 305 Weather: Little to no clouds in the sky; but cold!
He hadn't expected the call as out of the blue as it had been, but Zeke was still happy to receive it all the same. However, it could not have come at a worse time than this afternoon, as the vet was at his full time job and was about to run into surgery on a canine who happened to swallow something not so nice. Due to that, it was with deep apology that Zeke asked to schedule the drop off a little later once he was off work, and was the reason he was in the Lab now on a cold Wednesday evening.
Still decked out in his work attire - a white medical coat with a name pin dubbing him 'Dr. E. Farris', black slacks, white button up, shiny black dress shoes, and a cheerfully goofy yellow tie featuring the well-known smiley face - the vet was seated behind the desk he sat at on the weekends, waiting. In one hand was a bottle of Dr. Pepper that he casually lifted to his pierced lips to sip from. The other was relaxed over the arm of his swivel chair and his eyes were on the door while his feet tapped the clean linoleum. The latter actions were not because he was keen to leave. Rather it was because he was excited to see the woman who would be coming through those glass doors any time now and what she would have with her. He had been rather surprised to have not heard from Axel or her equally wonderful sister since he dropped her bottle and vial off back in October, but attributed it to a manner of things which included neither of them having any questions at all.
Thinking about the rounds of severe questioning he had gotten when he first met the twin sisters, the vet smiled around the mouth of his drink. Although he had only had one bottle pick up and one newborn Raevan pick up respectively since then, Zeke was constantly in the mind to hold those who became Guardians to the standards of questioning that Idylla had set without meaning to. If they came from the guardian rather than a brought along family member, even better! Bonus points! The two men he had met with at the Lab during each meeting had asked only a small number of queries and thus Zeke was really hoping for another onslaught in the future. His reasons for this were simple; both to experience it again and because he was definitely extra ready for anything anyone would throw at him now.
Setting his bottle down and reclining back in his chair to give himself a stretch, he had to wonder if the woman coming to see him would have any more for him tonight.

As soon as Axel had set foot back in her own home, she’d called Zeke to request meeting him to drop off the bottle he’d given to her now full. She’d had no idea that her soul capture would take her such little time, but she was happy all the same with the capture. Of course, there was the tiny detail of the soul being completely unexpected, and something Axel was rather not so fond of, but the colors had won her over. She’d originally though the lizard was ugly, but the soul she’d sucked out of its body was truly wonderful to look at. The mist swirled in blues, greens, red, oranges, and so many more like a rainbow. So in spite of her wanting a girly soul, she was going to end up with a chameleon and truly be surprised by what kind of raevan would be born from such a soul and her whispering essence.
The lab had bee relatively easy to find with the directions Zeke had give her, plus she’d been visiting one of her clients and the woman had give her even more directions to the place. Axel only wished now that the weather wasn’t so darn cold, skirts and flimsy shirts did not do well. Thankfully, considering Axel knew she’d be out today she’d donned a navy suit with pants and while it didn’t keep her warm, it did its job. She’d also bought one of those long winter jackets that cut off most of the cold for her, but most of the time the wedding planner tried to stay inside. The large leather bag beside her held the essence and soul bottle, Axel didn’t really want to part with them, the essence was nice to have when she was reading quietly at home.
Opening the car door, Axel grabbed her bag and headed for the entrance. Unsure if she should knock first before entering, she decided to was best to knock once and then head inside, there was no way she was going to sit outside very long. Axel spotted Zeke easily; she gave him a smile and moved closer towards the desk. “It is so cold out!” Gently, she set the bag on top of the counter. “It’s nice to see you again Zeke! Sorry for bothering you earlier today.” She was a little surprised to see him all decked out, and even more so to see he was a doctor. Before seeing him here today, Axel had been positive he was a scientist. She would definitely have to ask him about it later on.

While he made many glances at the door and windows that lined the wall at the front of the Lab, in due time Zeke turned to the computer on his desk for a source of entertainment. Bookmarked on the browser were games sites, and the vet happily brought one up on the screen to play as he waited. He got to the second level of a mindless little Flash game before a knock brought his eyes from the screen to the door. Despite the darkness outside and the glare from the lights overhead, the vet easily made out the form of a woman behind the glass. When the door opened and Axel stepped in, the vet hastily closed the browser window and stood up from his spot.
"Axel!" A grin spread across his pierced face and he moved from behind his desk to welcome the woman. Seeing the large bag in her hands, he waited until she set it down before moving toward her and wrapping her up in a friendly hug. Although cold radiated off her form, an equally friendly kiss was pressed to the dark haired woman's cheek before Zeke pulled back and eyed her with suspicion.
"You are Axel right?" He wasn't doubting the woman's identity but merely playing with her. Their first meeting started with a game of switcharoo and he wasn't liable to forget such introductions easily. With the question in the air, the vet chuckled and let Axel go, waving a hand to her apology. "It's nice to see you again too, and no need to apologize! You didn't know!" The vet's grin relaxed into a light smile, feeling as though he should apologize. "I'm sorry I had to push this up to right now, but I was a little too busy to get out of work when you called."
He hated saying no to anyone, even if in this case it was less 'no' and more 'I can't right now but later'. Even with it being so, when it came to the Lab he was the sort of man who wanted to get the new Guardians taken care of right then and there and that surgery did prevent that. It had been a successful operation and while he was happy to have been of service, he did feel bad for leaving Axel hanging. However, he knew he shouldn't dwell on it. That was past and this was now, and in this now there was catching up to do and a filled bottle to tend to!
"How have you been? Can I get you anything?" It had been months since he had seen the woman or her lovely sister. He was keen to see the bottle and learn what Axel had caught, but he wasn't going to rush blindly ahead without asking his acquaintance how she had been since they last met or if she wanted anything to warm up with. As he posed the questions, the vet gestured to the two seats in front of his desk, letting Axel decide if she wanted to sit or stand. Zeke himself would do the latter. Now that Axel was here, he was much too excited to sit down, let alone sit still.

Pulled into a hug by Zeke, she welcomed the warmth even if it was brief before returning the light peek on the cheek and grinning at him when they pulled back. “Of course, “ Axel laughed. “I’ve decided to keep idylla in the darkuntil the Raevan is born. Gotta keep things interesting between family you know?” As much as she liked seeing her sister on a daily basis, sometimes she just didn’t have anything new to tell her. It got a bit redundant at times, so this was bound to spice things up again, even if Idylla would constantly bother her to know what the soul was. Axel wouldn’t be surprised if her twin would be the one to call Zeke up for news on the Raevan’s birth. Though that would be another event Idylla would not be invited too. No need to confuse the poor Raevan!
“Don’t worry about it! It gave me some more time to finish up a few things at work.” Axel had been able to keep her last client in a little longer, and then finish up some previous paperwork that had needed to get done.
“I’ve been very well; I didn’t stay as long as originally planned in Mexico.” She omitted from retelling the story for now, they’d get to her soul capture soon enough. “Idylla has been good, such a nuisance since I caught the soul though.” Axel grabbed her bag and followed him towards the seats, she herself decided to sit down since she figured they’d be at it for a little while. “No I’m fine thank you, I just got out of the office so relaxing here is just what I need!” If she remembered correctly, she still had water left in her bag. “What about you? How is Anastacia?” The spider queen wasn’t here today; Axel would have wondered what her thoughts would have been on the colourful soul.
“So, I’m sure you want to see what I’ve brought back from Mexico! You want to take a guess at what soul I’ve caught?” Grabbing the bag gently from the floor, Axel first grabbed the jar with her flowers, setting them gently down. With a smile, she grabbed the bottle keeping it in her hand as she extended it towards Zeke. “I bet you won’t be able to figure it out.” Heck, if someone had presented such a question to her, without her having any prior knowledge she probably would never have guessed that a Chameleon was in there. Plus, who would think to find such a lizard in Mexico? “The one hunt I’ll give you is that it’s a Lizard and not something you find in Mexico.” They were sucky hints, but Axel didn’t want to give it away. "And it's not magical."

Keeping Idylla in the dark until the Raevan was born? Zeke couldn't help but give Axel a mischievous little grin and sly wink as she spoke of it. Given Idylla had been in the dark about her sister even getting a Raevan, he could only begin to wonder just how she would react when she finally met the newborn.
"Just make sure she doesn't question him or her too much when you introduce them."
As he spoke that line, he couldn't help but chuckle again, grin moving from mischief back into play and delight. He continued to gesture at the seats until Axel made her move, nodding his head as she told him that he didn't cause a ruckus or anything by pushing their meeting up to now. He was glad to hear that, and even gladder to hear the dark-haired woman had been well.
When she spoke of not staying longer in Mexico, he inclined his head in a way that meant he was curious as to why without saying it. That faded as Axel spoke again of her sister, making the vet chuckle. He had told himself before upon meeting the two woman and he'd tell himself again - the Raevan-to-be would be going to a good home. The only concern was that Idylla might go overboard with spoiling the newborn!
"I'm sure she means well though. She was pretty darn excited to be told she was gonna be an aunt." He could remember the change in the redhead's demeanor perfectly when she found out that news. That drop off was definitely one of his most fun and most memorable.
When Axel sat down, Zeke smiled and moved back behind his desk, capping his soda bottle before resting his hands on top. Last thing he wanted to do was have a spill on the bottle, Axel's bag, or the papers in the folder that were off to the side.
"You sure? We have a cafeteria, so getting you a cup of tea or a glass of water is no trouble." He always made sure to offer again when a person denied just in case, but after that was said, he was quickly taken up by Axel's questions. The one about Anastacia in particular made him smile, and it really showed in his eyes as he brushed his bangs back and made the right one viewable to his companion. He had something rather interesting to tell Axel about his ward.
"I've been great, and Anya...Well let's just say your dress closet made a big impression on her." He chuckled as he spoke, dropping his hand from his forehead to rest on the desk along with the other one. Of course that's not the only thing that had occurred since they had last met. There had been the whole Halloween party fiasco that had at least led to his Frei talking to him again, a bottle pick up and a newborn going to her new home, and - probably the biggest milestone in Anastacia's life - Zeke allowing her to stay home alone. "She's really gotten into dresses and the whole fashion thing."
Her interest wasn't a way that was big enough to have the Frei asking him to buy her dresses that caught her eye just yet, but it was the sort that had her learning how to sew, reading fashion magazines, and perhaps even planning her own gown ideas out. Zeke had been surprised by her spark of interest back in October but had done what he could to fuel it by getting her a trove of things related to the topic for Christmas. Anastacia had been happy with her gifts and thus the vet was happy; looking forward to the day where he'd peek into her room and see a dress in the making on the mannequin.
Not mentioning the other things - although he would happily tell Axel why the Frei wasn't with them today if asked - the vet let his words fade as the newest returnee spoke of her bottle and...actually teased him about it! The vet raised his brows in surprise as the question was asked, but immediately after hearing it, his expression quirked and he eagerly nodded. He did so love the guessing game.
When the Essence was placed upon the desktop, Zeke grew just that much more excited. One down, one to go and while it was nice to see the little white blossoms again, he was damn near itching to see what colors were mixing in the Soul Glass. The colors of the cloth had been a gradient of blue, green, and purple and expecting that, Zeke was visibly taken aback by the swirl of rainbow inside the Glass' orb when Axel pulled it from her bag and held it out.
As colorful a man as he was, it was no lie to say Zeke was also attracted to bright colors. The red swirling at the base of the heavy orb caught him first with its vividity and slowly his eyes moved up the curved glass - meeting orange, yellow, and then the three colors he had expected to see twirling at the top. She had caught a rainbow! Or something that just took on the colors of a rainbow. Regardless, at the moment, he was very much taken with it and taken aback by it - jaw hanging open just enough to add the goofy finishing touch to his surprised face.
"I'm...I'm definitely gonna try." Slowly the smile returned to his face and while Zeke had figured he would be too excited to sit comfortably, he parked his rear in his seat right then. Scooting up so he had his chest against the lip of the desk, the vet eyed the rainbow swirl held out to him by Axel. He crossed his arms in front of him on the top of the desk, shifting his head left and right toward his shoulders as though those angles would help in discerning what soul was now caught inside. It didn't help any, but it did allow him to see just how the colors mingled and changed into one another as they curled and danced. Damn it was gorgeous.
"Mexico...so it could be a bird, bug, plant--" He stopped himself as Axel said 'lizard' and nodded. A reptile was next to be listed off, but off the top of his head he couldn't recall one that was both so vivid and...not indigenous to Mexico? Or magical? Zeke tore his eyes from the glass and looked at his companion, smile fading into a neutral line then dipping into a thoughtful frown that was almost a pout with how pronounced it was. A colorful lizard that was caught in Mexico, but not originally from the area and not magical. So what did that leave him with? An invasive species? A zoo animal? This only added to the puzzle and Zeke loved it, feet tapping rapidly on the linoleum beneath him in a cocktail of positive emotions. Looking to the bottle again, the pout-frown continued, but faded for a moment and back into a smile as Zeke had to joke around.
"How many guesses do I get before you tell me?"

“Have no worries, I’ve warned her that if she’s going to be bombarding the poor raevan with questions, she wouldn't be allowed to see her for a few months.” It had been one of the few things Axel had warned her sister about, the other main thing had been babysitting in case her raevan wasn’t allowed to go to weddings. Axel had no intentions of her raevan picking up habits from her sister, who some might label a little on the wild side. The twin knew all too well of her sisters club habits, and Axel had deemed her dating habits just as bad. Than again, Idylla didn’t date, she just like having a different flavor of the week all the time. In any case, her sisters horrified face when Axel had announced all the rules surrounding her raevans birth were enough to tell her Idylla wouldn’t be messing around.
Thankfully, her mother had also agreed to babysitting as well, Axel wouldn’t have to worry about bad habits than.
Idylla had been more than enthusiastic at the idea, it would probably be the only child the sisters had. Idylla wasn’t one to settle down, and was far from the motherly type. Axel on the contrary, would do well as a mother, or so she liked to think. From what she’d seen, some men didn’t like raising children that weren’t their own. She had no idea what anyone would think of a raevan, but it certainly made some things a bit more complicated. Though, in the end Axel thought it might actually help her find someone that was going to stick with her through thick and thin.
For now, she had to keep focus on raising her raevan, love stories could come after. This came first and foremost before anything else.
Axel shook her head. “No don’t worry, I think I have a spare water bottle in my bag anyways.” Zekes next words about Anya made her smile, she had no idea she’d influenced the spider that much. “You might have a fashion designer on your hands Zeke!” She could definitely see Anya on the runway, it certainly made her wonder if these turn of events had been helped along by Anya’s soul. Axel could only wonder at what a chameleon would be good at, as far as she knew all they did was eat insects, and change colors for camouflage. “I think she’d make a very good fashion designer.” If she liked wedding dresses so much, Axel might send her some brides. “If she ever gets interested in making designer dresses, let me know. “
A quick glance had told Axel that Anya hadn’t been around, she swept her gaze around another time just to make sure she hadn’t missed the frei. After all, spiders liked ceiling corners to make their webs, and while the idea of finding Anya on the ceiling making a web was interesting, it was also a little creepy. “Where’s Anya?” Axel turned back to Zeke, wondering if she should share her strange analogy with him or not. It would be interesting to know if he’d maybe had the same sort of thoughts at her at some point. Or maybe even, had seen Anya preforming such actions, it certainly made for funny barbecue talk.
Did such parties between raevan and owners even happen? Axel silently chuckled to herself.
Zeke’s reaction was simply amazing. Axel felt herself swell up with pride at his obviously surprise and approval of the prettiness of the soul. It didn’t matter now where the soul had first come from, all that mattered as the perfect swirling rainbow that would be creating her raevan; Axel got excited all over again. Watching Zeke trying to figure out that soul she’d caught was priceless, the smile on her face was certainly plastered permanently on her lips. “Beautiful isn’t it?” Perfection, beauty, awesome. Those words all popped into Axel’s mind as she starred down at the mist, and soon she’d have a raevan born from this.
“I can give you three guesses.” Axel was itching to tell him what she’d caught, but she really wanted to see him have a go at guessing. If she hadn’t been holding the soul bottle, the planner might have moved non stop, or even hummed with excitement. Axel let her eyes drift over to Zeke and his serious expression, she was going to stare him down trying while he tried to figure it out. The word he was looking for was on the tip of her tongue, she was going to blurt it out as soon as his guesses were down.

A chuckle left him as Axel told him of her threat towards her sister in regards to her Raevan. A few moments later, he nodded as the woman opposite him told him she had a bottle of water tucked away in her purse. The later part was a-okay to Zeke and the former was hilarious, but he was now being pulled between Axel and the tempting colors of the bottle. More vocal answers to her replies were lost on him, save for when Axel made comment about Anastacia being a fashion designer. To this Zeke laughed and did reply with words.
"Maybe!" He said with a silly grin, tearing his eyes from the bottle to rest on Axel. He did sort of like that notion and really could see the spider queen doing so. If she practiced enough - which he was sure she was doing in general - perhaps she could make a little business out of it. "I'll definitely do that and pass that on to her. She'd love to hear it." Perhaps it would motivate her as well, but it was too early to say. He was learning not to count his eggs when it came to his ward, but there was still the off chance she'd take it as a compliment or even a motivation to stop simply looking at magazines and start delving into the meet of her newest interest.
When Axel glanced around the room, Zeke did as well. His mimicked action came out of curiosity for just why the woman had done it, but when her gaze rested on him again, he did not show any open signs of that feeling. As the question came the vet chuckled.
"I've recently decided she was old enough to stay home when she wanted. The cold weather sort of pushed me into allowing her to do that, but she really is mature enough now and so far my apartment's been fine each and every time I've come home."
Most times it was no more clean nor dirty, but once in a while he'd notice some books had been moved to the shelf or that the floor in the living room had been swept. Nothing major, but enough to make him smile each time it occurred. He had also received no calls or visits complaining about the noise or whatnot, so yes, Anastacia definitely was able to handle the apartment on her own with nothing out of sorts happening and he knew she enjoyed the freedom. He was happy, she was happy; this was a decent arrangement though come the warmer weather he'd be asking if she wanted to go with him to work or where ever he was off to.
With his words on Anastacia's whereabouts spoken, Zeke dipped his attention to the bottle Axel held out again. He couldn't help himself - the colors called to him. With Axel's tease about him guessing what it was, the call was amplified and he had to start. However, like with the talk about Anastacia, he was pulled out again and enthusiastic to give a reply to her question about the captured soul's beauty.
"It's amazing! Are you sure you didn't catch a rainbow?" Perhaps this lizard - whatever it was - had simply keeled over after the rainbow had been caught and had done so right next to the bottle. It was harebrained, a stretch, and partially a tease; but to Zeke it was still sort of plausible. Anything was really, but especially when it came to soul capturing.
"Three? That's fair." Three for guessing was always fair, but the vet wasn't sure he knew of three lizards that could get so colorful. He might have been a veterinarian, but lizards - hell, reptiles in general - weren't his forte. Smiling at Axel, he looked down at the bottle she held out. Lifting it gently, he turned the bottle to and fro in his hands as though looking at the smoke in different angles would give away its identity. "Hmm..."
The pout returned, but vanished a little as he started to suck his lip ring in thought. Axel has pointedly said 'lizard' so frogs, snakes, and amphibians in general were out. That made it all the harder - he knew there were colorful amphibians and snakes out there, but now they weren't options. So what did that leave him with, and what could he remember of the sorts of lizards he had seen?
Lizards... Given his line of work, he had seen a few iguanas in his time. They were lizards, but not very colorful outside of the green and brown spectrum. Definitely not an iguana.
Zeke shifted in his seat; moving back then forward, leaning from one elbow to the other. Although his feet tapped and his legs jigged, the only other constant and unchanging action from the vet in his thinking was the sucking of his lip ring, which only seemed to increase as he tried to figure it out. Lizards...Why hadn't he taken that class on herpetology?!
"I'm realizing now how I don't really know a lot about lizards." He frowned as he said this, raising a hand to rub the beard on his chin. Looking back to Axel, he released a breath through his nose and smiled just a little. He was finding humor in this predicament. "But...I'm pretty sure it's not an iguana. So that's one lizard species down." It wasn't a guess, but he wouldn't mind if Axel counted it as one of his granted three. Shifting in his seat, he drew back a little from the desk with a slow push of his legs. His right hand reached out and took his soda bottle from the table while the left unscrewed the cap. Taking a thoughtful sip, his nose wrinkled with the feel of carbonation. As that happened, one lizard popped into his head suddenly and seemed to fit the bill as far as a guess went.
"Is it...a gecko?"

Axel nodded quietly as Zeke told her he`d pass it on, if Anya came around to actually doing bridal gowns, she might end up seeing the raevan a little more often. Granted, if she was gone most of the time she probably wouldn`t be able to talk to her much. Axel was sure she would have more than her fair share of questions to ask when her when her own raevan was born. For now though she had to think about the here and now, which was handing the essence and soul over to Zeke to get whatever process going.
Again Axel nodded, a few questions passed through her mind, but she only picked one to ask. “How old is Anya?” She could understand the spider didn’t want to go out in such cold weather, while Axel had no idea how spiders worked she knew you didn’t see any spider crawling in the corners during the cold months. If she remembered her research correctly, chameleons hibernated in the cold. That in itself brought up a few more questions, when winter came did that mean her raevan couldn’t go out of the house? What if she needed to leave and he or she couldn’t stay home alone? Again, more question to be asked when the time came, Axel was going to have to start keeping a tab on the ones she thought about. Maybe even hand the paper to Zeke and ask him if he could answer all her questions.
There was no way around it, Axel smile grew as they chatted about the soul and all thought of cold weather moved aside. “Is it possible? To catch a rainbow?” She chuckled softly, leaning back in her chair. A rainbow would certainly have made an awesome soul to catch, and would have added more colors to the bottle. Though, Axel doubted it was possible, how were you supposed to catch something that never ended? Or maybe they did end, and Axel would have been greeted by a leprechaun and his pot of gold. It made her wonder what type of face he would make when she announced she was here for the rainbow and not the gold. “But no, not a rainbow.”
When Zeke began thinking about what types of lizards, Axel grew anxious. To prevent herself from fidgeting she laced her fingers together and layed them on her lap trying to look as still as water. It seemed like she wasn’t the only one, deep in thought Zeke moved quite a bit more than Axel. She really wondered what he would come up with, because if Zeke had presented her with the same question, she would only be able to come up with two answers. Geckos and iguanas, would Zeke also think up of these too?
Axel help up three fingers and took one down when Zeke mentioned iguanas. “That’s one guess down.” Zeke had said he knew it wasn’t an iguana, but she was still going to count it as one guess. She wanted to give him a chance, but she was also itching to tell him the real answer. His next answer brought another one of her fingers down, and Axel chuckled. “One more guess.” She watched him quietly, but now one of her legs bounced up and down in anticipation. Part of her wanted him to guess right, but the other part wanted to tell him herself and see his reaction. So now it was only a waiting game for his last guess. Axel didn’t think she’d be able to contain herself for much longer.

“How old is Anya?”
"She'll be two in April." Once again the fact she was almost two struck him, as it did each time and every time he answered that particular question. How had it been two years already? It was January now and that meant the anniversary of his becoming a member of the Lab was coming up as well. The vet didn't feel old by any stretch - even though his twenty-eighth birthday was coming up in April as well - but damn!
As the conversation moved along, the vet hummed and sucked his lip ring as he kept up trying to think. This only waned as Axel questioned about the rainbow, the vet stopping his squirming about to sit up and look at her properly.
"I don't see why not," he said with a playful little smile, "a lot of Raevans have souls that are out of the ordinary. My friend Anita's Raevan has the soul of a crocodile. My sister Alex's Raevan - Zul - has the soul of a high level demon. My friend Vivi - a white stag, and her friend Dou? Moonstones." Anita's boy was home with his Guardian now, but the latter two were still in their tanks, developing away. As he had done with Anya and Cruz before them, the vet constantly went back to the laboratory itself to check on the two Freis and even talk to them too. "I'm pretty sure there's a Raevan out there with an Essence dealing with rainbows. I can't remember who they are though."
He did recall the Essence being in the files. Shards of Rainbow, Fragments of Rainbow...Something Something Rainbow. While he couldn't recall the name properly there was that one word in there, he knew it for sure. Either way, no matter the Essence's proper name, it was a bit moot right now. It wasn't a soul and Axel did not catch a rainbow.
"Coulda fooled me there," he said with a cheeky grin in reply to her assurance it wasn't such a thing.
His eyes dipped back down only when Axel lowered a finger on 'iguana' and told him he had one more guess. A little chuckle left him; she had counted the iguana. Taking another sip from his bottle of soda, Zeke pouted over the rim. Not an iguana of course, not a gecko, so what else could there be? Crossing his arms and sitting back in his seat, Zeke frowned at the bottle, trying to mentally will it to give up its secret. This of course did not occur and shortly thereafter the vet had his arms folded on the table, staring hard at the swirling mist.
"Not an iguana, and not a gecko..." He released a breath through his nose, sucking on his lip ring again. The pout became a small frown as again and again he drew up blanks. His mind kept pulling up various snakes and amphibians even though he kept telling himself that this was a lizard and nothing else. He did so love a good guessing game, but he didn't like to be stuck so badly either!
As he drew up more blanks - that weren't some frog or snake - Zeke finally decided to throw in the towel. There was no way around it, he was stumped. Sitting up straight and reclining back again, the vet raised his right hand and rubbed at his neck; a sheepish sign although his face showed his reluctance to give up. He didn't want to give up so soon, but he also didn't want to keep Axel here all night thanks to his inability to figure out what sort of lizards could make a rainbow swirl in a glass bottle.
"Okay," he sighed, dropping that hand and crossing his arms over his chest, "I give up. Your soul has stumped me and I cannot think of anything else." That reluctant look lingered for a moment as Zeke looked eye to eye with Axel, then promptly faded into a smile. "I bet it's something really obvious and I'm just too dumb to realize it." He chuckled and shook his head. "Maybe I should have opted for that zoology minor back in college instead of animal husbandry. Ah well, c'est la vie."
C'est la vie indeed, and now he waited patiently - but always excitedly - for Axel to spill the beans.

Anya didn’t look like any two year old Axel knew, but then again how many people had she met with no lower body? This was probably regular raevan growth, it made her wonder if other raevans grew differently, how fast they learned and how her own raevan would grow. The more Axel learned about raevans, the more she became intrigued and the more she grew restless to meet her own.
As Zeke mentioned another raevan with an essence that dealt with rainbows, Axel hummed quietly to herself, she’d want to meet that raevan one day. As for the other souls Zeke was bringing up, they were all interesting. She had no idea moonstones could be used, those would surely make a very pretty raevan, as would the white stag. Axel was a little unsure on the crocodile, it made her wonder how someone had managed to snag that soul from its body. It also brought up the question of why someone would want a crocodile soul, but they could have been in the same boat as Axel and simply thought the soul was cool. This was going to be another raevan owner she was going to want to meet, Zeke had mentioned something about an Anita? Axel was going to have to see if her name showed up on her phone list and give her a call sometime.
“A rainbow would certainly have made for something interesting.” There was no denying that, but still, Axel felt like her soul choice was perfect, and it made her feel proud.
It took a while for Zeke to give up on the guessing, he had made some good guesses, but none of which Axel was looking for. When he leaned back, so did Axel with a large grin on her face. “It’s the soul of a chameleon,” she paused while it sunk in. “A panther chameleon actually, I looked it up when I got home from the wedding.” Truth be told, Axel now owned a notebook with notes and details about the soul. It was filled with information she’d found on the internet, tips and anecdotes from various people she’d talked to, Axel had even gone as far as going to the zoo and pet shops. Only when she felt she’d been fully satisfied, and prepared to take on a chameleon soul did Axel finally settle down with the information gathering.
Now, Axel settled to recount the story. “I caught it in Mexico while I was attending a wedding.” Granted, she hadn’t stayed very long. “The bride actually made me stay with her grandfather and he had the chameleon in a cage in the hotel room. Quite creepy if you ask me.” Who in their right mind brought their pet lizard with them anyways? Axel sighed at the thought. “I actually did go soul hunting, but hadn’t found anything I wanted.” Nothing pretty enough. “I usually left the bottle by the window where the cage was, I.. I didn’t think it was going to grab the soul.” And then she’d run away with the soul and hadn’t heard about the previous owner, so she deemed herself safe.
“And then I came back and now I’m here.” End of story, Axel shifted in her seat. “So do you think it’s a good soul?” She had no idea what to be expecting from it, nor what made a bad or good soul choice. “I decided to keep it for the colors, but I mean if it’s not a good choice I don’t mind going back out to find something else.” She had grown fond of the soul, but if it wasn’t going to turn out well, she wouldn’t chance it.

When the word 'chameleon' left Axel's lips, Zeke's expression fell and a look of dawning realization took over on his face. His eyes widened, his mouth slacked, his posture hunched, and it was clear that the gears in his head were turning, turning, turning...and then landing on one simple thought: it was so obviously that, stupid!
He stared blankly for a few lingering heartbeats - looking through Axel rather than at her - before soft laughter started to bubble up from within him and he had to raise a hand to cover his mouth and just rub his face.
"Oh god that was so obvious..." His words were muffled by his palm and his eyes were pinched shut as he spoke them, but once they were said the vet reopened his eyes and looked back up at Axel. The look on his face now was clear amusement and it only grew as he reached out, took the Soul Glass in his hands, and twisted it to and fro in between his palms. "A chameleon...Duh!"
Laughter left him again and he used one hand to butt his forehead at the end of his statement. As Axel continued on about the soul and that she looked it up after her trip, Zeke remained quiet and used the time to contain his laughter.
"A panther chameleon?" Here he looked puzzled and held up a finger to silently ask for a pause. Once given, the vet turned to his computer and opened up the browser and went to Google. A click and few pressed keys later and Zeke was staring at a trove of images of the most colorful lizard he had ever laid eyes on - in person or on TV. Brows raising higher the farther he scrolled down the images page, Zeke was amazed. He didn't reach the bottom before turning back to Axel, smile back and as full as ever. "That's one heck of a lizard, Axel!"
The bottle was a give away that the Raevan born from the soul would be colorful, but the images he just perused made it clear to him that this Raevan was going to be eye-popping. Colors that bright with the white of the Essence to lay upon? He was always excited to see a new Raevan, but this one was sure to be a color bonanza! Amusement made known, the vet again fell silent as the woman seated before him explained what had happened. He nodded when she mentioned the wedding, smiled when she mentioned the arrangements and how she deemed someone keeping their pet in a hotel room 'creepy', and chuckled when the dark-haired woman admitted she didn't think the soul would be caught.
"I guess the chameleon wasn't any color that matched the cloth at the time." It seemed like a logical guess at any rate. "Don't worry, a lot of soul captures were accidents." His own and Anita's stuck out in particular when he said that, but Zeke didn't say as much. Instead, he was pulled from that thought to the question asked of him and it was one that made him both surprised and a little honored to receive it.
"I think it's a great soul. Chameleons are really cool!" Color changing abilities, eyes that could move independently from each other, prehensile tails, and a long sticky tongue...they were nifty little creatures for certain. Setting the Soul Glass down again, Zeke rested his arms on the desk and cocked his mohawked head at Axel. "But the real question here is; do you think it's a good soul?" If she wasn't happy with it, Zeke knew it was possible to have the soul released from the bottle. He didn't know how to do it but all the same, it was doable. "I only ask because this soul will be your Raevan in the future. If you like the soul, then it's good. My opinion doesn't have any sway, really. I mean, I think it's awesome, but this is one hundred percent your choice."
She said she decided to keep it for the colors and that was well and good and her decision. She didn't need anyone's opinion but her own on this matter. Smiling lightly, the vet stood up and took hold of the Essence jar, setting it down between them on the desktop. Once it was placed, he did the same to the Soul Glass, placing it next to the Essence with its bulbous bottom facing its owner.
"A chameleon soul and an Essence called Forget-Me-Nots," he splayed his fingers out on the sides of the two objects as though showing them off as prizes behind Door Number One. He looked between the two items from his standing position then did the same as he sat back down. Again the idea that this Raevan was going to be a feast for the eyes struck him, but he kept that mum and instead turned his gaze back to Axel's face - watching as he let one question go. "What do you think?"

Was a chameleon really that obvious? Axel probably would never have guessed it truthfully. It was nice to know that she’d stumped Zeke though, and she laughed along with him. This was why she always looked forward to her meetings with Zeke, the guy had a contagious laughter. Hopefully she’d see Zeke around some more before her Raevan was born, else she’d miss him quite a bit. Axel was quite pleased with his reaction to the news which only helped to bolster her feelings for the captured soul.
Nodding to acknowledge the pause, Axel watched Zeke quietly wondering what he was up to. Was he going to register her soul right now? His expression was an interesting one, Axel could only guess now that he was looking up what a panther chameleon looked like. She’d had the same reaction as him when she’d first googled the lizard, she had never seen a such a plethora of colors on a single being. This had been step one, saving images of the chameleons that resembled the one she’d caught as step two. She hadn’t taken any pictures of the creature in her hotel sadly, so this was the only way she could keep a nice record.
The Essence had not been forgotten either, while her notes had a large section about the chameleon, she had also gone researching about the forget-me-nots. It had helped her understand a little about what the flowers were about, and the mythology she had found behind them may have explained a little more on their mysterious powers.
“I thought they were awesome too after reading.” Axel chuckled, she had wanted nothing to do with the lizard when she’d first seen it in her room.
Zeke’s next words made Axel go quiet and thoughtful. She wanted to ask if he’d been happy with the soul he’d caught for Anya, but decided otherwise. He was right, this was going to be her raevan and no one elses opinion should matter. Was she the only one to think it ironic that she’d wanted a pretty soul and pretty had come in the form of a rainbow lizard with an even more colorful soul. She’d given Life lemons when asking for a pretty soul to catch and Life had given her back limes with a colorful soul. Her gut feeling was telling her this was the right choice, and she was going to go with her gut feeling. Axel’s expression became determined.
Standing now hand on her hip, Axel eyed the two objects. “A chameleon soul and an Essence called Forget-Me-Nots...” She echoed Zeke’s words softly, more so to herself than the vet. The Essence she assumed was about not forgetting, and with such colors it certainly would be hard to forget. Axel’s smile slowly grew on her lips, and she extended her arm as to lightly rest it on the side of the jar with the Essence her thumb moving over the glass slowly. Ever gaze was on the soul however, as Axel tried to imagine what would come from these two. Zeke brought tugged her back to him, and now her smile was large. “I think they’re perfect.”
Axel let her arm drop back beside her, “Alright, they’re all yours Zeke.” She was going to miss having the flowers on her desk, she’d have to go buy some normal forget-me-nots to replace the now empty spot on her desk; she’d do that tomorrow on her way to work. It dawned on her, that Axel wanted one last picture with them together. While she felt a little silly asking this of Zeke, she still bent down to grab her bag and took out a camera. “I know this might be silly and all, but can you take a picture?” Axel offered him a sheepish smile. “Kind of like a last goodbye.” It would be a nice picture to put in with her scrapbook and show her raevan once it was born.

Although his feet continued to jig upon the linoleum, Zeke waited with patience as Axel quieted and looked between the two items situated on the desk. This was her choice and he wasn't about to rush her for anything, let alone this. Quietly he surveyed her face, watching for any sign of any words to come, but found nothing during the first few minutes that passed. Wonder and curiosity piqued in his head and the raver wanted to know just what the woman before him was thinking, but those things faded as a smile curved Axel's lips and her eyes seemed to light up as well. When the word 'perfect' was uttered the vet smiled anew and stood up too. Had the desk not been between them he would have given her a friendly hug, but given the circumstance, he rested a hand atop each item instead.
"That's great!" he exclaimed, beaming from ear to ear. Now that she had made her choice, he was not at all against speaking his mind on the matter of the Raevan-to-be in a voice laden with excitement and delight. "I'm already betting the Raevan's gonna be crazy colorful! Red and oranges and blues and greens..." He trailed off, stopping himself as Axel bent down curiously and pulled out - of all things - a camera. Surprise was apparent on his face at the sight of the small item but that immediately vanished into a grin as Axel posed her question and gave her reason behind it. Zeke needn't even think about it - the moment her words came to an end, he was already holding his hands out to take the camera from her.
"It's not silly at all! I'll be happy to, but here, let's trade." When he had the camera in hand, the vet shifted it to his left and used his right to pull out the folder that had been present when he dropped off the once empty bottle and Essence. Opening it, Zeke grabbed a pen from his pen cup and jotted down the identity of the soul and the date on the proper lines. Once done, he set the pen down atop the papers and turned the entire folder around to face Axel. He gestured to the paper and pen as he spoke.
"If you could just put your signature down on that line there next to where I wrote the date, you'll be all set. You'll have officially handed your bottles over." And with that signature, the process of turning these two items into a Raevan could begin first thing tomorrow morning.
Letting Axel do that, Zeke moved out from behind his desk again, examining the camera as he went. He stopped a few steps short of the woman and the desk, making a soft 'ah' sound as he found the on switch and the camera came to life.
"Okay, I think this thing is all set for a photo or two." Zeke held the camera up to his face and used the screen to show him how this photo would look. If he pressed the capture button down now, he'd have a lovely shot of Axel and the wall behind her. "Whenever you're ready!"

To be fully honest, Axel was also looking forward to see if her raevan would be just as colorful as its soul. She handed Zeke the camera as her mind wandered to the possibilities of what her raevan could look like. It was a little hard to imagine, she hadn’t exactly met a large number of frei since she’d met Zeke. Though, however her raevan turned out, she was sure she was going to be in love with it; she secretly wished for a girl.
“Thanks!” Axel beamed at Zeke, taking the pen from him and writing her name in a neat cursive. She put the pen down and returned the folder to Zeke. That’s it, it was official now. She’d handed in filled soul bottle and essence and in a few months she was going to have a raevan to take care of. A shiver ran through her, it was like she’d just signed adoption papers and now was just waiting to receive the child. Holy crap, she was going to need to call her sister when she got home, granted Idylla was going to be pissed that she hadn’t seen the soul, much less knew what soul Axel had chosen. Maybe she’d invite her mother out to dinner with her sister, she had to tell her mother at some point, now that was going to be hard to explain to an old traditional Greek woman.
When Zeke moved from behind the desk to get ready to snap a picture and gave her the ready, Axel turned her back to the desk using it to lean one of her arms so she could get as close as possible to the bottle and jar. “Alright, I am good to go!” Axel’s face lit up with the largest smile she could manage, she kept the pose until Zeke had snapped all the necessary picture and gave the two items one last look. When all was done, she took back the camera from Zeke and placed it back into her bag, she was going to be uploading them to her computer tonight and updating her notebook tomorrow when she had free time at work.
“Well I guess that’s it.” Axel glanced at the door, wondering what the temperature was like outside and not really liking that she was going to have to leave the warmth of the lab. “So can I give you calls to get updated on how things are looking?” She wanted to ask how long it would take, but she remembered Zeke mentioning it was never the same for all the raevans. Too bad. Axel wondered what she was going to be doing for the next few months, probably meet some other owners and get a feel of how raevans worked. Tips and help would always be welcomed.
“Maybe I’ll give you a call in a few weeks.” Axel chuckled and moved in to give Zeke and goodbye hug. “Thank you for everything, it's really nice to be given such an opportunity and we’ll be keeping in touch!” Her bag strap went over her shoulder and off she went, back outside to the cold to drive back home. In a few months, maybe even a few weeks, her raevan would be born. Axel sat in her car for a little longer before starting the car and drive home, things were about to get really interesting for her.

Once Axel gave the okay, Zeke readied the camera. He fiddled with the zoom, took a couple steps back, and then - once happy with how the woman and two objects looked in the shot while trying hard to keep the clutter on the desk out - snapped a couple photos off. With a grand total of three, the vet lowered the camera and gave the dark haired woman a thumbs up.
"That should do it!" He handed the camera over and immediately looked at the form he had the woman sign. Her name in crisp cursive was in the right spot on the paper. Smiling again, the vet closed the folder's cover over the forms and turned back to the woman who would now be departing. Although he was smiling, the vet did feel a little bummed that their meeting was coming to an end so soon. The thought of giving Axel a tour of the Lab came to mind, but instead of speaking the idea, he instead told himself that it was getting late and he too had to get home as soon as he could. A tour could be done later, if Axel decided to pop in for a visit sometime before her Frei's birth.
"I guess it is," he replied as Axel glanced to the doors waiting at the front of the lobby. He started to say something about how it felt like the time just flew by, but stopped himself as his friend posed her question. Chuckling, the vet nodded in earnest. "Of course you can! You can call me, the Lab, or you could stop by if you want. The doors are always open here and I'd be happy to show you around sometime." It was then he returned the embrace the woman gave, humming a little as he gave her a fond squeeze.
"Call or text me whenever you want. My phone's almost always on; if you don't get an answer I'll definitely call back when I can, okay?" He released her as his words faded, turning a little pink in the cheeks as she thanked him. "Aw, don't mention it. I'm here to help after all! But believe me when I say I'm very happy Dr. Kyou chose you to have the Forget Me Nots. I know you'll be a great Guardian and hey, I like keeping in touch!"
Grinning, he walked Axel to the door once she had her things and held the door open for her with a final goodbye. Once the door clicked in the jam, the vet lingered there, keeping watch until Axel got into her car. Once he saw her door shut, he gave a wave and turned back around, eying the two bottles that waited on his desk. Smiling again, this time to himself, he strode over and picked the Soul Glass up - holding it carefully but with mounting delight as more thoughts to what would come from this and the Essence lit up his mind. After a few moments of staring at the swirling rainbow of a soul, the vet finally moved again and picked up the Essence jar and the file before making his way out of the lobby and in the direction of Dr. Kyou's office. The two glass items would be set in a case like all the rest had and the file set on top of the former, beginning the last leg of their journey to become a being. Weeks, months, maybe a year...However long it took, Zeke already couldn't wait to meet what was to be.
