Severin finally had all the things transferred into the classroom. All his papers were neatly in place on the desk. Severin knew it wouldn't last and the desk would be swamped with random mess. As of right now, Severin was fairly impressed with his neatness. "Well, once I get all my books in here, I'll be ready to go."

He went to the cart that he had with all his materials. There was a cabinet in the room where he could store the books but he had to keep the books that he used often near him. Severin grabbed a few books and started to place them on the desk. Then there were more stacks of books on the floor beside the desk... and another stack... and another.

"Dammit, I use all of these books all the time." Severin sighed as he crossed his arms and adjusted his glasses, his dark blue eyes scanning the books as he tried to pick favorites but found that he couldn't.

"Whatever! I'll just stick them all the cabinet. As long as I keep it organized, I shouldn't have any trouble finding the books!" Severin sighed as he grabbed the books and began shelving them inside the cabinet in the room.

Zhori

After having finished checking the halls, Zhori started checking all the classroom acoustics in the school. Most of them were dull and completely inappropriate for good music. Several had interesting contours that created interesting effects. She marked those down. Leaving one, she nearly bounded across the hall and burst inside without so much as knocking.

As she entered, she sang a short arpeggio in the key of C. Hmm. The class wasn't overly cluttered, which helped sound bounce around a bit. At the same time, it wasn't too echoey. It wasn't really anything out of the ordinary--she saw no real reason to mark down the class as special, but as usual, the sound of her own voice made her smile and she broke into a song by way of greeting to the pale man she realized was actually working in there.

"As I came back through Dublin City,
At the hour of half past eight
Who should I spy but the Spanish Lady
Brushing her hair in the broad daylight
First she tossed it, then she brushed it
On her lap was a silver comb
In all my life I ne’er did see
A maid so fair since I did roam!"

It wasn't like she was singing a song about a beautiful woman because she thought she was one...really. But it's not like she wasn't, so it worked. "Nice room, you have here." She looked around. "Erm...what sort of classes are you going to be teaching here anyway?"

"Oh! I'm Zhori. Music teacher." She laughed slightly. "Obviously."

A woman just burst into his classroom without so much as knocking and started singing nonsense. This is why women were so annoying. They just did as they pleased all the time. Severin was tempted to make a sarcastic remark, but he didn't because he knew that having a friendly relationship with those in his workplace saved a lot of trouble and dirt.

Well, the best way to please a woman was to compliment her. So he gave her a friendly smile as he adjusted his glasses.
"Well, that was quite an entrance. You certainly surprised me, Zhori. I've never quite heard that song before. Very interesting."

Severin closed the cabinet since he had just finished stuffing all his books in there and he walked over to stand in front of Zhori. "My name is Severin Novaire. I am the English Professor here. It's a pleasure to meet you." Severin offered his hand for a handshake as he said that.

"Surprising since it's a fairly well known folk song," Zhori said, shrugging. "I would have figured that you would have come across it at some point or another. How strange. But I guess maybe they don't cover folk songs when you study literature. I wouldn't know, really." She looked down at his hand, before taking it with a bright smile. But instead of shaking it, she brought it to her lips and kissed it, bowing as she did so.

"Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Severin. I am Zhoriarvannia Delioritashirian. But, you can call me Zhori." She released his hand and smirked up at him. "I realize this is usually the man's job but you don't seem the type, frankly. And after a song like that, well, someone needed to be kissed."

((Zhori...your logic befuddles me. ;^; ))

Severin froze in place and his hand just hung in the air, still where Zhori had held it. Fortunately his friendly smile was still pasted on his face as he tried to figure out the situation. 'Just what is this woman playing? Was she mocking him? Did she think that he wasn't masculine enough to be treated like a man? Now he had to wash his hands.'

While all these thoughts plagues his mind, his friendly smile, still pasted there, hid his true emotions. "I see. Well that surprised me. I'm afraid to say we do not study folk songs in this class. We'll be focusing on the English language and its grammar first before we jump into plays and novels. Occasionally I'll give my students poems to study." Severin answered, changing the subject from her peculiar greeting.

Zhori narrowed her eyes and leaned closer, raising an eyebrow as she examined his face. His smile hadn't faltered even slightly. "Well that was a rather surprising reaction, or lack there of. Most people would at least raise their eyebrows. I'd feel offended if it wasn't a stupid thing to feel offended over. I mean, when my brother does that kind of thing people swoon all over the place. It's good I know I'm better than him at everything else, or I might start to feel inferior."

She sat on a nearby desk, swinging her feet as she watched Severin. Interesting guy. She wondered just what was going through his head behind that smile.

"Well, I guess grammar is important and all that. Plays and poetry sound more interesting. What's the play you like to teach the most? I think my favorite to read was Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. I liked all the witty banter between Beatrice and Benedick. Banter makes the world go 'round, don't you think?"

Severin had the major urge to lean far back from her when she leaned closer to him, but he stood still, not betraying his 'friendliness.'

She seemed suspicious about it, but she didn't seem all that much concerned about it since she changed the subject to another subject. Good God, why did this woman have to be knowledgeable about plays and why did she have to pick that one where everyone falls in love with each other and have happy weddings in the end? Severin wasn't fond of romances. The play overall was amusing, but with its joyful ending with marriage, Severin didn't have much thoughts for it.

"Yes, it's a shame they had to fall in love. It would have been amusing if they kept arguing." Severin said as he leaned back on his desk wondering when this woman was going to leave, "But I'm afraid I won't have time to have the students study the plays I want them to study. I have to follow the school curriculum and they packed so much into the English curriculum that I don't have time to pick out the ones I wanted."

((I guess this guy really had a terrible sister to be so distrusting of women. =w=" I should have put "Not interested in romance at all" under the sexual orientation category. xDD))

Zhori

User Image
"Oh, I agree," Zhori said. "Their banter at the beginning of the play was more entertaining than the banter when they fell in love. Though I suppose the entire point of the play was that they were in love the entire time, and just didn't realize it until they were tricked by their friends into acknowledging their feelings. But the point remains--the banter makes the play worth while. So many clever word plays."

"As for me, well, I agree with Beatrice's observation: He that hath a beard is more than a youth, and he that hath no beard is less than a man: and he that is more than a youth is not for me, and he that is less than a man, I am not for him." She actually did have a thing for older men (not that any of them were older than her), but beards were just nasty no matter who they were on.

"But still, I suppose that happy endings are more satisfying for the audience. They have more closure for people, and all that. It's a pity you can't teach what you want, though. I had a music curriculum. I burned it...er...on accident."

Yes, accident. She accidentally turned to fire while overlooking the curriculum and approved syllabus and oops! And then she simply came up with her own plan to replace it. Convenient!

((Zhori is definitely not the kind of woman to get him interested. I think probably the opposite is going to happen. Sadly, if she realizes he hates her, that is just going to make her want to tease him more. She's evil. =w= ))

Glad for he change of subject and not in the mood to discuss this play with this woman, Severin grabbed the tangent and ran with it.

"Burned your curriculum?"
Severin repeated. He kind of wished he could do the same with his, but unlike some people, he was certain to be responsible and diligent about his job even if he didn't like what he was doing. "I never thought about the music class having a curriculum, but I suppose it makes sense. What kind of music do you intend to teach your class then?" Severin asked, trying to get her to start ranting so he could formulate a plan to get her out of here.

((You never know. xD But Zhori, but sticking around to chat with him, is unintentionally bullying him. So funny~~ xD ))

"Oh yeah, burned it right up," Zhori said, nodding. "On accident. Sort of. You know, I think you should do the same. And just teach what you want to teach. As for me, I'll be teaching...what I want to teach. I don't like to set things in stone. After all, the sort of students I have should determine what I teach them, you know? All students are different. So some cookie cutter curriculum just is not going to work at all."

In spite of her chatty, perky demeanor, what really was bothering her at the moment was that he failed to react to her teasing jab. She'd chosen a quote that specifically insulted him, and he didn't even bat and eyelid. His responses seemed awfully calculated. Of course, this could only mean one thing. She was going to have to find a way to ruffle that cool exterior. And in any way possible. The results were bound to be funny. It always was, when people who took themselves too seriously, finally cracked.

Getting some kind of reaction out of him would have to be her new mission. "But yeah," she continued. "The curriculum. Sometimes I just forget that if I turn to fire while touching things that are flammable, they burn up. You know, paper, clothes...squirrels. Though that was just that once...shame, really. Poor little blighter had to spend several weeks in the hospital..."

((And thus, it turns into intentional bullying. LoL Woo! Pick on the misogynist! Zhori and Suzanne tag-team attack!))

This woman had an engine that never stopped. She was the type to went from one topic to another in a smooth flow. Severin had been waiting for the right moment to tell her that he had to get back to work, but she would wrap him up in another topic of conversation which always ruined his chance to suggest that she should leave. It would just be poor timing and that would leave a somewhat, less adequate impression of him.

So he was stuck, with a smile pasted on his face as if he was interested in what she had to say. Severin's face was starting to hurt from smiling so much, but there was little he could do about it at the moment.

About her ability to burn things, Severin found that it seemed rather inconvenient. He would hate to have such a power since he had a love for books. It would be terrible if Severin had burned a good book because it brought out some emotion in him or if it was some kind of accident. Of course, he wouldn't mention what he thought to Zhori. Women usually were easily offended. Some hide it well, while others blow up and over-dramatize the situation. Severin didn't know if Zhori was that type of woman, but he seriously did not want to risk it. So instead, he tried to find a way to compliment her.

"Well, it wasn't your fault. It's difficult to be aware of such an amazing power all the time." Severin replied and then he added, "And on the subject of school curriculum, I believe the school has good intentions for what you call the "cookie cutter curriculum." It might be different for music, but for English, I prefer to teach the students everything from the curriculum and more. It's a matter with how well I conduct my class and teach the students. If all is smooth, then there should be time for the materials that I want to teach." Severin explained trying to lead into a way to get away from Zhori.

"Er... speaking of teaching, I haven't prepared the lessons for my classes yet. I was intending on getting some materials in the library and... getting started on it before school begins."

((Of all the people in the school, Severin had to attract the bullies. xD))
