Yǐn Cáng had already completed his training for the morning, waking up early and all but leaping out of bed to begin stretching in the pale light that signaled predawn that barely graced the window. From there he had done his morning run, worn out a dummy in the gymnasium, and jogged back to his room to clean up. Now, hunger gnawed at his stomach, demanding that he feed it more than the paltry offerings he had consumed that morning. By this point Princess Eva scent was beginning to make his mouth water, a sure sign lunch was past due.

He left his room, making the now familiar walk down the convoluted hallways toward the main doors of the Monster dorms. Already his mind was churning with the ideas of what the cafeteria might have today. When hungry most things tasted better, so perhaps today would be a good day to try one of the meals he had yet to try. Daydreaming about food he opened the door, stepping out to head to the cafeteria.

Yin was on a mission, but that did not mean that he could not be distracted. A corridivus cawed above him and he peered up, eyeing the creature. He had not captured fowl for some time, and the thought of fresh bird had his mouth watering even more.

He could not resist tracking the bird with his eyes, and trusted his feet to lead him forward. Thus it was that with his head turned up to the sky he completely missed the ghoul wandering toward the cafeteria somewhat along the same path until he ran into her. Literally.

Snapping back to reality he looked at what he had run into, startled. "My apologies, Miss!" he immediately said, face anxious as he began running his eyes over her to see if she was okay.

Yǐn Cáng was much to distracted by the ghoul to notice that her spines had pierced his shirt, adding small holes to one of the only shirts that he owned. He could only understand about half of what she said, but she appeared to be frightened, and...was she scared? At the rate that she was talking he wondered if she was.

New resolutions to no longer cater (quite so much) to ghouls flew out the window when he was faced with one apparently on the verge of tears. "I am fine, Miss," he hurriedly assured her. "Please do not worry on my account. Is there anything I can get you or help you with?"

The weremantis shifted back ever so slightly, trying to stay far enough back from the finger. It was not that being touched by a ghoul would be horrible, he just was unsure if he wanted the contact. This ghoul was giving him entirely too much attention he feared, and was being nicer to him than the situation called for, going so far as giving him the levels of respect generally reserved for her own gender.

But he had no place for fear in his life. He forced himself to take a deep breath and stand there as she prodded at his shirt. "It was I that was distracted Miss. I was on my way to find something to eat and the sight of a bird distracted me. It looked delic-" he stopped suddenly, realizing that perhaps admitting that the animals on campus looked delicious was not such a good thing.

Either the ghoul had just growled at him, or she was hungry. Then she spoke. The birds are? he puzzled, looking at her. Her face was red, perhaps she was angry with him. "Oh I know, the birds are..off-limit," he said, and laughed nervously.

Though the growl of his own stomach and the fact that he needed to lick his lips and swallow may have indicated otherwise.

A speculative look crossed Yin's face. "I have never attempted to snatch them out of the air," he admitted, the knowledge that she also hunted allowing him to relax just a bit. One less thing for him to worry about. "I generally wait to catch creatures off-guard."

He looked at the ghoul with a bit more scrutiny, though he tried not to stare too openly. She was of a heavier build than he, which meant that she was probably an excellent hunter. He could appreciate that much about a ghoul at least. "I have nor yet caught one of those birds, Miss. I mainly catch the rats that are in the monster dorms. I do not wish to accidentally eat someone's pet." The consequences would probably be too high if he did, though some creatures he had seen around almost tempted him to risk it.

He nodded as she spoke, imagining how foolish one could look trying to catch a bird in flight and failing. But when she spoke of paralyzing creatures he gave her a look of shock, surprise overriding his need to be overly polite. "You can paralyze thing?" he asked incredulously. He knew that Halloweeners had strange and varied abilities but to be able to paralyze prey was a useful ability indeed! "Making others sick is a bad side-effect, but that seems like a most useful trick Miss."

He tried to focus on what else she had to say, and was pleasantly surprised by what it was. "So this place for un-owned pets is a good place to eat during an emergency then? It would be nice to know of such a place, for there are some days when the rats just seem to know that you are hunting them."

Yin was about to greet Miss Chupacabra when she kept talking, informing him that her name was something else entirely. Belatedly he realized that chupacabra must be her species. "Greetings Miss Temes," he said, dipping his head to her in acknowledgement. He would call her by her proper name unless she insisted upon "Chuppi," and even then what he called her would be debatable. "A hunt in the future sounds interesting. I would like to see how this method of capture would work. Though I cannot use your scream perhaps I will gain some new ideas on how to hunt fowls."

He was making more plans with ghouls. It was odd, but...it would probably be okay. She seemed to be fairly interested in food, so he felt confident that in a pinch he could distract her with some sort of creature. "I would very much appreciate the knowledge of where this food source is located. I feed my minipet with what I capture, and while I can afford to miss a meal or two I would hate to see her go hungry." Not that he really could afford to skip a meal, but his belt tightened easily enough, and it was almost to ignore the weight that he had lost.
