After everything that had happened, it was no surprise that Xiu was far more wary of the newer students than usual. Though the baku liked to think of herself as a fairly friendly person, she was unable to hide the air of anxiety that surrounded her as she walked down Amityville's hallways, her gaze skimming over the newer students as she passed. Which of these students were actually true demons, monsters, ghosts, or undeads? Which, if any, were actually hunters in disguise?

Paranoid? Perhaps just a little bit. Taking a deep breath, Xiu reminded herself to calm down. At the very least, there were plans underway that would help educate the student body on these Hunter characters and how to detect them. And speaking of which...

As the ghoul head towards the library, she was surprised to find that a sheet of paper had stuck itself to the bottom of her shoe. When a quick shake failed to free it, she bent down to pull it off, her eyes skimming over the headline. "Oh, this is..." The school newspaper...and the hint for Seeds. So Pepin had already gotten these done and distributed (or perhaps "strewn about at random" was a more accurate description, from the messy state of the school hallways).

She continued into the library, the sheet of paper held up in front of her as she stared at the little ad--the puzzle--at the end of the article. Pepin had been responsible for coming up with that particular puzzle, so even she didn't know what the answer was. However, since she had time, maybe she could spent a few minutes and try to solve it for fun--

"--Oof!" Her thoughtful expression was immediately replaced with one of surprise as she found herself walking straight into one of the towering bookshelves. Fortunately, no one had been around to witness her incredibly graceless act just now.

...Or so she hoped.

Ah, the libarary! The one place where Alex could go to find peace, quiet, and solitude. The place where he could absorb himself into the mysteries of the world, leaving the real world and all of it's problems behind. He shuffled in behind the pink haired ghoul slowly, his skeletal leg dragging a little behind him. His boney foot was fitted with a sock to keep it from scraping noisily across the floor, leaving his movements in relative silence. He was incredibly eager to sit down with a hefty stack of books and spend the next several hours reading them until he was either kicked our or got too hungry to continue, though if the latter happened he'd likely just go and find a snack and then make his way back again.

The pink haired ghoul was not too far ahead of him. He'd seen her turn into the library from the hall, after picking up a piece of paper that had been stuck to her foot. He wasn't following her or anything though, it had just happened that they were going to the same destination at the same time, and was about to turn down an aisle of books when he heard a noise that gave him a start. He jerked his head up towards the source. It seemed that the ghoul hadn't been paying much attention and had wandered into a collision course with the bookshelf. How had she managed to do that? They weren't exactly small or easy not to notice!

He stopped himself from turning, changing his course to shuffle towards the ghoul from behind, his hands shoved deep into the pockets of his black pants. "Are you ok?" He asked nervously, leaning forward a bit, and eyebrow raised in concern, even though she couldn't see it from this angle.

...Well, so much for that incident going unnoticed. At least she had simply walked into a bookshelf--the first time she was here, she ended up falling off something and landing on another student. That, understandably, had not been very pleasant.

Wincing, Xiu rubbed at her head, only to jump in surprise as someone suddenly spoke up right behind her. As it was an unfamiliar voice, she whirled around quickly, looking the boil up and down. She had no idea who this boil wa--ah, no, wait. He...he had been in the Cracker of Nuts production as well, hadn't he? Rather than stare and try to remember his name, she decided that it would be best to answer his question first.

"Ah--yes! I'm fine, thank you. I was just a little distracted, so...--...Hmm." Just as she lifted up the newspaper, an idea came to mind. The ghoul glanced between the undead boil and the newspaper. Had he seen the article and the ad, she wondered? Assuming that he wasn't a Hunter in disguise, perhaps she could...

...But first, introductions. "I'm sorry--you look familiar, but your name is alluding me. Umm..." Xiu held out her hand and smiled brightly, "My name is Xiu-Ying, but I usually just go by Xiu here."

The ghoul was much easier to recognize from the front then from behind...though he didn't actually remember what her name was. He could have sworn that he had seen her somewhere before....oh right! The school play!

Except that Alex was trying really hard not to think about that day and the events that occurred immediately following.

"Alexander." He supplied, happily pushing his thoughts to the back of his mind and putting on a warm smile, taking her hand in his gently so as not to accidentally crush it and giving it a small shake. He was glad to see that she hadn't caused the books any damage by running into themharmed herself from running into the bookshelf. "I'm still pretty new to the school.." he shrugged, as though giving her an out for not remembering his name, though he figured it was only fair since he hadn't remembered her's either.

"Oh, that makes sense!" Xiu had to admit that she hadn't been particularly perceptive about the new students in the school lately. There was a lot of her mind...but hopefully she could change this. It was nice meeting new people, after all! "It's nice to meet you, Alexander! Hope you're liking the school so far." The atmosphere around the school felt a little different now--to the baku, at least--but she hoped that the boil was fitting in okay.

He was probably doing fine, though, if he even went and auditioned for the school play! "I saw you in the play," The ghoul suddenly chirped cheerfully, "I was in it too. Not sure what came over me to audition, but..."

Xiu looked down at the article in her hand again, and then up at the zombie. The light smile on her face faded slightly as her brows creased. "If I may ask...how much do you know about the school? Er...any rumours or anything, I mean." At present, she wasn't sure if Alex knew anything about the Hunters, Red, or any of the events that taken place within the last few months. Regardless of whether he did or didn't know what happened...well, perhaps a public place like the library wasn't the best place to discuss such information. The last thing she wanted was to be overheard by anyone who wasn't supposed to be there.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 15, 2012 11:35 pm

He nodded at her amiably enough, but his smile faltered a little when she asked how he was liking the school so far."Yes, well...I do like it here, though there have been some uh...interesting moments that I wasn't entirely expecting?"

He rubbed a hand through his hair, pushing it back out of his eyes and blinking at her. "Ah, I thought I recognized you from the play. Don't worry, I'm not sure what I was thinking either." He chuckled. "Thought it might be a good way to make friends, I guess, though that didn't pan out so well for me." In fact, he had thought afterwards that he had actually lost a friend. But him and Yin had been able to patch things up, and were now doing as good as he could have hoped for.

He noticed that the ghoul was looking at the article in her hand, and he eyed at it curiously. Was it from the new school paper? He hadn't had a chance to read it yet...Oh, she was talking again!

Her words made him frown. Was it just him, or was she hinting towards some kind of double meaning? When she mentioned the rumors, he thought he knew what she was referring too, but how could he be sure? He didn't really want to start babbling about the things he had heard in such an open space....

Then he started to wonder if he could answer her question with a hidden meaning of his own.

"Wellllll, I'm new here and all but it seems to me already that things aren't always what they seem?" He lifted his eyebrows, not sure if she would catch on. He decided to add, "I already need to go to the Maul to get some new clothes. I might need to hunt down a new red tie." He grinned, but his eyes were pleading with her to understand.

Xiu smiled wryly at Alex's answer, giving a little bob of her head. "Yes, I think you enrolled at a very, um...eventful time. It's good to hear that you like it here thoug--...oh?" Xiu's eyes widened slightly at the mention of making friends, or rather, the "didn't pan out well" part. Was the boil having trouble meeting others? The baku's expression visibly changed at this thought, her brows creasing and a small frown tugging at her lips. It really wasn't any of her business, but...

"Umm, this is random, but let me know if you want me to introduce you to any other knobs, okay? I've been here for a while, so...!" She trailed off with a bright, friendly grin. It was an innocent enough offer, though the fact that she said it directly after the mention of making friends made it kind of obvious why she had suddenly offered this.

However, that topic aside, their conversation was beginning to take a far more serious turn now. At least, it was a somewhat dark topic that was hidden behind their grins and casual chatting. The emphasis that Alex placed on certain words did not go unnoticed by Xiu, and she gave a little nod of her head to show that she understood. That was good, then--he was at least somewhat aware of what was going on around here.

Now, how was she going to respond? It was clear that she wasn't as good at this "hidden meaning" thing as the zombie was, but after furrowing her brows in thought for a few seconds, she decided to give it a go.

"Is that so? I'm sure you already know the basics about red tie fashion," Xiu chirped, clasping her hands behind her as she smiled up at him, "But there's always more to learn! I mean, if you're interested in learning more?"
PostPosted: Mon Jan 16, 2012 9:23 pm

Alex was smiling so much now it was making his face hurt a little. The petite ghoul standing in front of him seemed to have caught on, or at least, he hoped she had. If she was really just talking to him about tie fashion then he was going to be sooooo embarrassed later. But, she had offered to introduce him to others, and to help him make friends, and that made his chest almost swell with happiness. Totally worth any embarrassment now for a chance at meeting new friends later.

"Of course I would love to learn more!" he said as cheerfully as he could. "Perhaps we should sit down somewhere more private to discuss the finer points of...red tie fashion.." He had to struggle with that last part, as really, what was there to know? A tie was a tie was a tie. And Alex was already the expert when it came to that, anyways.

Ok, his face was really starting to ache now, so he let the smile fade a little at the edges, and stopped showing so much teeth at the ghoul. "Maybe we should go over there?" He gestured towards a table in the far corner of the library, where nobody else was anywhere near.

She couldn't help it. Cupping her hand over her mouth, Xiu had to suppress her laughter as best as she could, especially when Alex faltered on "red tie fashion". It had been...a bad cover, she had to admit, but it was the first thing that came to mind! Fortunately, they understood each other, and that was all that mattered.

Even if they did, in hindsight, sound completely ridiculous. If anything, they probably seemed more suspicious to anyone listening in on them than if they just sat someone and whispered from the beginning.

Alas, it was too late for that (not that it really mattered--from what Xiu could see, there--fortunately--weren't many people around right now). Nodding at his suggestion, the ghoul moved towards the indicated table, sliding into one of the seats. She waited until the boil was settled down before she lay the newspaper out on the table, running her hands over it to smooth out the creases. When she spoke, her voice was soft, just audible to the zombie. "Have you seen this article?"
PostPosted: Tue Jan 17, 2012 9:44 pm

Alexander, of course, followed, but took a little longer getting to the table then she did. Once there, he folded himself down, stretching his long legs out under the table and setting his hands in front of him.

There it was, that article again that she had kept looking at when they were first talking. He tilted his head and looked at it from above, then turned it towards himself more so he could read it a little easier.

Huh, interesting.

" Is it fairly new?" He asked, raising his eyes to hers, then shaking his head "I'm afraid I hadn't seen it yet, no....It's a pretty bold statement though, very interesting..." His brows furrowed as he looked down at it yet again.

"Just came out today," She confirmed, her own gaze falling onto the article, "And yes, it's...it's pretty bold." A lot bolder than she had originally expected the article to be, in fact. She hoped that Pepin wouldn't get in trouble for it, granted that the Boogeymen were no longer patrolling the school.

The problem here was that, even though what was printed in the article was the truth, it was something that wasn't often spoken about amongst the students. Not only because the Hunters were, for many of them, frightening presences, but also because many of the students still seemed to be in the dark about them. If they tried to spread such information to the other schools, Amityville would surely become a laughingstock. No one would believe them.

And then, of course, there were the safety issues. With the knowledge that Hunters could infiltrate their school by posing as a student, it simply wasn't a safe idea to talk openly.

Sighing, Xiu propped her head up on the palm of her hand. "But it's not the article itself that I wanted to point it. It's this." Reaching out with her free hand, she traced her finger over the sheet of paper until she reached the strange spam message. Her voice became even softer. "I've heard a rumour that there's this anonymous site for Amity students. It's a site to learn about and share intel on...those people." Frowning slightly, she tapped her finger against the spam message printed on the paper.

"It'd be nice if everyone was allowed in right away, but I heard that it's password protected--probably to make sure the wrong people don't get in--and you'll need this to find said password."

Alexander nodded. It would make sense that it had just come out, since he generally tried to keep up with these types of things, and this was the first that he'd seen of it. His eyes kept going back to different parts of the article, re-reading the words, before he glanced back up to Xui when she continued on.

He followed the tracing of her finger down to the message below the article, and looked at it with narrowed eyes. It was..a puzzle of some kind? Ugh. He really despised puzzles. He could never seem to wrap his mind around them and it was always very frustrating since he prided himself on being so book smart. Puzzles just made him look like, well, I a dumb zombie.

He was somewhat surprised at what she was saying about there being a secret site to learn about what he had only heard rumors about himself, and most of those had been second hand. But well...he'd be lying if he said he wasn't incredibly intrigued about said site.

He hesitated before speaking again, not at all sure he wanted to be doing this. What if he couldn't figure it out and she just thought he was stupid? "Well..umm..maybe we could work it out together? Though I confess I'm really not good with puzzles or codes..."

It hurt him just to admit that out loud.

While a little startled by the offer, the baku certainly didn't mind. Looking a little sheepish, she lifted a hand and scratched at her cheek. "Truth to be told, I'd actually appreciate that. I'm not very good at puzzles either." Though she did, in theory, know what the password was, she wasn't sure how to go about solving it from this clue. For Xiu, her only intention was to help recruit more students into Seeds--the more aware everyone was of the Hunters, the better prepared they would all be.

...And of course, she just wanted to figure out how this particular puzzled worked.

"First off...maybe we should grab a computer? Since this involves the password to a site, we might need to use the interwebs for the clue." Though they had not been sitting down for long, Xiu was back up on her feet, scanning the library for a computer that wasn't currently being used (and hopefully one that was in some subtle corner).

Ok, so the ghoul wasn't good with puzzles either. This was good. This, he could handle, because it made him feel less like an idiot, especially when dealing with what was obviously a very intelligent ghoul (who incidentally, didn't seem to mind that Alex, was basically a walking, rotting corpse. Bonus points for her!)

The grin that appeared on his face came easily, as he thought about how this could be a good challenge for him, and how rewarding it could possibly feel at the end if the two of them could figure it out.

When she stood up from the table, he hastily tried to follow, but in his clumsiness managed to tangle his skeletal foot (always causing him trouble, that one) in the legs of his chair, and ended up nearly going face first into the library floor. By some miraculous act of arm flailing and general stumbling, he managed to keep his feet beneath him, and the chair itself went spinning off to the side.

He laughed nervously, hobbling over to the chair to pick it back up and place it back at the table, giving the ghoul a very sheepish look before asking.

"Do you see one that we can use?" and turning his own head to have a look.

The petite ghoul visibly jumped at the clattering sound of the chair toppling over, turning around quickly to see what happened. The fluffy end of her tail had puffed up in alarm, only to relax again when she realized what had happened. "Are you alright? No harm done?" Fortunately, it seemed like that he hadn't fallen--just the chair.

She frowned thoughtfully at his question, opening her mouth to respond when her eyes suddenly lit up. "Ah! There's one there!" Xiu lifted her hand to point towards the (probably ancient) computer situated in the corner of the library. "I mean, it looks a little old, but...but so long as it's connected to the interweb, it should be fine!" Reaching out, she slide the school newspaper article off the table. Couldn't just leave that there, after all.

This time, instead of moving on ahead, she tried to match her pace with Alex's. She had initially forgotten that some undead moved a little more slowly than others, and she certainly didn't want another tripping-over-chairs incident.

"So, how are you with computers?" The baku piped up suddenly, pink eyes wide as she looked up at him. Hopefully at least a little better than Xiu was.
