Ainsley had been excited ever since she had found the flyer at the library for a French tutor. She had been to France several times when she had been younger and still living with her mother but she had never got the chance to become indulged in the culture and language that would allow for her to pick it up. She felt quite comfortable with the English language though and now the child was delighted with the idea of learning another. Certainly no one would object to her learning it, a benefit to her future right? If she knew French she could be shipped off to twice as many boarding schools should Bell ever tire of her.
It hadn't been something she could set up by herself though since no sane person would willingly set up such details with a child. Luckily neither Bell or Xavier had put up much of a fight about the subject and in the end Bell had set everything up and even dropped Ainsley off at the community center where she'd arranged for the tutoring to take place.
She was early, as usual, almost obsessively compelled to arrive at least ten minutes before any scheduled meeting time. Perhaps she could grow out of it and become one of those women who was always fashionably late like her mother but for now she wasn't and it gave the child ample time to find the proper room with the help of one of the facility engineers.
The room had several tables and several selections of seating for the choosing. It was a little hard to choose where to sit so instead Ainsley just fluffed her hair out of her jacket several times before deciding to take that off and place it on one of the coat hooks. Then she finally picked a place to sit, smoothing out the edges of her skirt and then taking out one of her several books from her backpack out and skimming over the page her bookmark laid. Hopefully her tutor would be here soon...

Ever had been expecting -- well. He wasn't quite sure. A teenager, perhaps, someone in high school struggling to pass a middle-level French class, or someone prepping for college. Maybe a Sovereign Heights student who needed to catch up fast to peers who'd started languages later, or, oh, a little old lady. A little old lady would have been fabulous. Whichever it would have been, he could have tutored at Zac's apartment. There was room, there, a table on which they could have spread out books, a personal vibe to the place that might have been like his own education. His mother had never been much about setting up a proper classroom, so it had never occurred to him as something he should figure out before giving this a whirl. When his first client was younger than that, though, still at elementary, and a girl on top...well. New accommodations had to be found. So. Community center. Unfamiliar territory. Ever was perfectly willing to use that as an excuse, the reason he was late. Couldn't find it. Subway was backed up. At least he had supplies in arm, a couple texts and one workbook. He poked his head into the room, faintly apologetic, and immediately bemused by the young girl sitting in wait. He offered a faint twitch of a smile. "...oh. Alice."

Ainsley had passed over a few pages rather quickly thanks to the existence of several nicely drawn pictures taking up a good portion of the pages before Ever had arrived. She was engrossed into the story that was happening all around her, extruding out of the pages and before her very eyes. She wouldn't have noticed Ever's arrival if he hadn't made a sound. It wasn't the most obvious announcement, but the name Alice had a particular warm memory for the child.
Ainsley hadn't quite expected it but when she did her eyes widened as her lips opened into a small oval shape until finally a smile fell over them. "Mr. Alice!" The pet name had returned as Ainsley practically dropped what she was doing, the door to her imaginary world slamming closed as her book hit the floor and she bound over to Ever. There was definitely a spring to her step, and what appeared to be a little bit of a rhythm as each foot almost meticulously hit the floor.
"It's so nice to see you again. I was worried, I haven't seen you at the library in awhile..."

"Things have been busy, and, ah." He blinked down at her, indecisive for a moment. Probably not wise to say 'my boyfriend thinks I could get a better job' to a thirteen-year-old. Ever swiped a hand over his hair, head tipped to the side, feeling rather like a giant next to the girl, and offered another flash of a smile.
"Well, this should be interesting, anyway, shouldn't it? Not quite sure what to expect..." Ainsley was probably inclined toward sweeping friends into hugs. He would have guessed that about her. Instead, however, he offered his hand in a fairly formal way, eyebrows raised and struggling to control that flash of smile, so that they could do this properly.
"Ever Ambrodiel, and I'm here to teach you French, I suppose."

"Oh?" She acknowledged. "I've been busy too!" It was probably best not to explain that every night he slept so soundly (hopefully) in his bed that she was coming home from protecting the city from monsters. Yeah, probably not the best idea. Wouldn't it be amazing though? He'd probably be amazed! If only... She didn't want to put him in danger from knowing through, that's what happened right? Yeah, it was better this way.
The hand being stretched out to her was surprise and she curiously put hers into it. She needed to stop expecting every man to be a gentlemen and kiss her hand upon meeting her, yeah, that was best. She'd have to do this the normal way, the boring way, the outdated way. It was totally outdated right? Everyone should be kissing girl's hands upon meeting them, it was the best way.
"It's nice to meet you. I will be your hardworking student, Ainsley McMahon."
She couldn't do this, she let go of his hand and curtsied contently to him. That was better.

If nothing else, Ever could be comfortable that this would be an enthusiastic student, one who really would likely work hard -- once he convinced her that his methods made sense, that this was important. He suspected that there would be a lot of 'whys', though, a lot of hammered questions and big eyes and god help him he needed to find a client who was a little old lady who fed him when he came to teach.
Shrugging off his bag, he nodded toward her chair with a twitch of an uncertain smile. He was still new to this, to teaching especially, to proper schooling even, his own experience more relaxed. Casual. And when it had come to French, it had been as simple as keeping his ears open...
"Um, sit." He rooted through his bag for his own copy of the book, for his quick notes, penned in that impossibly-neat hand across college-ruled paper. An outline. At least he had spent some time preparing, likely under Zac's watchful eye. He wouldn't sit until she had; in that, at least, he could be the gentleman she wanted.
"Tell me what you know already, huh?"
