I just got home to find our newest cat in my room caught red handed. I forgot to put the top on my gecko's terrarium this morning and was gone all day. She's scared shitless and was already trying to shed her skin. But the worst part is she's lost her beautiful tail. It was still twitching. If I came home just a few minutes earlier this attack wouldn't have happened. I'm still giving her some time to calm down before I completely check her over. But I didn't notice any other injuries on her.

It's taking a lot of self control not to throw a cat at a wall instead of locking her in another room. I'm going to be in a bad mood all night.

I would be pissed off too, it's hard to remember that the cat was just following nature. Oooo I would be contemplating on throwing a cat outside. if this happened to me. (of course I would never harm any animals intentionally)
I will google some stuff for you, maybe it will help.
Reptiles are not my specialty I have only had a few anoles.

I've taken out all her substrates and replaced them with paper towels. It think she's gonna be ok as long as nothing else has happened to her that I don't know about. I'll be treating her tenderly and giving her lots of space when I'm not feeding her and changing the towels.

Aw! That's just terrible. I'd be sobbing, I'd be so mad.

Please don't blame the kitty though. I mean, I'd be mad as hell too.. but you forgot to put the lid on it.

I catch myself all the time wondering if I've re-set the lid for my fish tank because my cat likes to try to 'eat' the Pictus. emotion_facepalm

I hope everything is okay with your Gecko. heart

Side question: I'm not really familiar with geckos. Will she re-grow her tail?

I stomp my feet and chase her every time I see her. But don't worry no matter how mad I was I'd never lay a hand on an animal. I just want her to be scared of me for a while so she stays away from my room.
Digit looks ok today. I cleaned the wound as best I could last night. She will regrow the tail. It's just that you can usually tell when a lizard lost their tail once. It's not the same as the original. She's such a pretty gecko too. It's comparable to getting a big scar on your face.

I just got her some wax worms and they told me they're higher in fat and protein. She's not ready to eat them yet but I'll try again later. I don't blame her for not wanting to eat right now.

I'll keep praying for the little one.
I think as long as you keep it clean and don't hold her too much, I think that she will make a full recovery.
How long does it take for her to regrow a tail?

one of the things people should think about is...cats domesticated themselves they still have the wildness in them...when you get a lizard hamster or anything else that is non cat (even sometimes other cats) friendly then you should get the cat after the other animals...and get the cat as a kitten.... the older the cat the more likely he will attack the other animals!

As much as I would like that unfortunately the majority of our cats are adults when we get them.

So sorry to hear about your scalebaby! :c Hope she recovers with no issues.

My cats get a face full of water whenever they go near the snakes, though that doesn't stop them from bouncing up and down trying to see them, especially when they're roaming around in their tanks/tubs.

your poor gecko. well luckily they are made to lose their tails so he will be fine so long as you keep the enclosure clean. i keep stuff on top of my tanks so my cats wont jump on them.

That is really sad. <=( But it's good to know your gecko is in good, caring hands. Hopefully it won't happen again.
