Floating silently through the waters of the Eastern Swamp lands, Aglaope found herself itching for some kind of excitement. Anything really would do. But the thought of singing to another soquili at the moment didn't sound quite as appealing as it usually did. Hmm. Maybe I am losing my touch. She briefly thought to herself. That thought was quickly tossed from her mind.
Aglaope suddenly stopped as she found herself before the stream that would lead her out of the Eastern Swamp. Would there be something interesting beyond the swamp for her? It was a curious thought, one that really made her think. She could leave her home to go on this side adventure if only to relieve her overwhelming sense of boredom. But the question was; would she find anything worth the trip? She supposed it was quite possible. After all if she did leave the swamp there would be fresh victims and quite possibly twice as many. A smile crept over her muzzle. At that moment she decided she would venture beyond the swamp.
Swimming quickly through the water, Aglaope found herself shooting through the stream without many problems. After several minute she found herself in a unfamiliar stream near the two-legger lands. Deciding this might be as good a spot as any she began to sing the most beautiful song she had prepared. Let's see what comes to me. Aglaope thought with a devilish grin as she began to sing.

Swimdeep floated through the water, letting the current drift him along. As he neared the bay, he found the mouth of a river that he knew led toward the two-legger lands, ending at a lake. He hadn't swam up to the lake in awhile and turned to head up the river.
As he came closer to the two-leggers' territory, Swimdeep heard a strange singing. Curious, he swam toward the melodic voice, not charmed by the song, but interested to see who might be singing.

[Taken from aim unless otherwise stated.]
Aglaope had noticed the shift in the water, signifying to her that someone had followed her song. Turning around she found herself met with a male mer who had stripes all over his body. She noticed his dark green spots and blue hair, finding his apperance to be rather intriging. "Hello there." Aglaope said in a soft and gentle voice, not wanting to scare the male away. "Did you hear my song?" She asked, even though she was certain he had. After all, that's what she was known for.

"I did," Swimdeep answered, studying the strange female. She looked as if she'd seen better days, but was not unattractive. "i was curious to see who was singing. I thought a two legger might be close to the river. They sing sometimes when doing chores."

Pausing for a moment as she listened to the male respond she found her eyes wandering his skin once again. He seemed to be in good health, which would make him valuable to her. But just how useful was he? Curious, she swam an inch or two closer. "I've never seen a two legger before, although I have heard many stories of them." Aglaope said honestly. "What is your name?" She asked, raising one brow. "I'm called Aglaope." She added, now circling him. When she had looked him over fully she swam back to be in front of him, eyeing him carefully. "Do you live in this stream?" Aglaope asked with a smile.

The stallion watched her swim around him. "I'm called Swimdeep and the ocean is my home. I just like visiting the lake at the mouth of the stream." He took in her apparent wounds. "Have you been injured?"

Aglaope shook her head slightly. "Not exactly." She said, trying to think how best to explain her condition to him. Her pale eye looked at his healthy blue one. "It's a long and complicated story I'm positive you would lose interest in." She said, flicking her tail slightly to signify he probably didn't really want to know. "Swimdeep.." Aglaope repeated. "Sounds like a very interesting name." She said grinning once more. "Tell me, do you have any special talents? Or is your name just a coincidence?" She honestly asked. It wasn't often she met someone who had a name that litterly meant something like his appeared to.

"My herd all had names based in nature," the male chuckled. "So, no. No special talents. Just tenacity and a friendly ear." He hoped she understood that he did want to know her story. "You have an interesting name as well. Are all of your herd as... unique as yourself?"

"Is that so?" Aglaope replied a slight smile tracing her muzzle once more. So he wasn't quite as valuable as she had previously thought, but he could still prove to be of use. "I have no herd." She replied with a slight shrug of her shoulders. "My sisters and I were raised far from this land by our mother and her sisters." She said, trying to figure out how to best describe their family dynamic. "But I grew tired of my sister's changing lifestyle so I left them in the old lands and instead ventured here." Aglaope finally said. A more devilish grin graced her features. "We're often referred to as sirens." She said, staring at him with testing eyes. Would he run? Would he become more curious? Or would he simply have no idea what she was talking about?

Swimdeep's ears flicked forward, listening to her story. He nodded as she finished. "I know what it's like to be far from home. My herd's territory was destroyed by some two leggers. I'm sure it was unintentional, but all the same, we had to leave. I got separated from my family and herd. I never saw them again." He regarded the female. "I've never heard of sirens, before, but you have me intrigued."

Aglaope found herself feeling a twinge of compassion for this male and his loss. She had willingly left home and found the decision to cause her heart a great deal of pain everyday. She couldn't imagine what it would be like to be in his position. Not having the choice. "Well maybe soon you will find your way back to them." Her muzzle lifted in a warm smile. At his response to her being a Siren she mentally shook herself. "Well, I'd be happy to explain it to you. But..." She said, raising one eyebrow at him. "I wonder how you will take it. Will you run from me? Or will you stay?"

"I'm not sure they're still alive, and if they are, the currents have carried them too far away," Swimdeep sighed. "They're memories now. Good ones, but memories all the same." At her slight explanation, he raised an eyebrow. "How am I to know how to act unless I'm told? I don't think there is much that can shock me."

"I'm sorry." She replied sincerely, allowing herself to drift a bit closer to him but not enough so that she actually touched him. "Hmm." She said, eyeing him again. "A siren is typically a female who leads males to their deaths. But that's not all we do. Me and my sisters for instance usually released those that could not breath underwater before things became... messy." Aglaope shrugged. "We typically do this by using a song. Which, if I recall, you were lead here by my song." She added, letting out a breath. "Although, you don't seem to be quite... mystified by it."

Swimdeep chuckled. "No, not really mystified. Not by your song anyway." He thought over what she'd said, though. "Did your family really lure others to their deaths? Why would you do that?" He didn't seem horrified, however, just... curious. It seemed an odd thing to him to want to randomly cause the death of others.

"I wonder why that is..." She replied a bit quieter, meaning to imply that she was thinking out loud. Deciding it was best to save that thought for another time she smiled a bit. "Of course." Aglaope replied, still smiling. "I would say majority of the time we didn't intend to kill them. But sometimes you encounter one's that won't break from the song, can't swim or in crueler moments you just simply..." Aglaope tried to find the right words. Sadly, there were none better. "Entertain yourself with with their struggles." Aglaope frowned slightly. "My eldest sister was known for being cruel to her victims. Until she found one she loved."
