Background: She's cousin to the famous Indigo family capo, Zabre Zanover, aka, the Magician. They used to be really close, and for a long time, she believed Zabre simply owned a private security force company. After a becoming a kidnap victim for one of the Indigo family's rivals, she was rather rudely awakened to the truth that Zabre was part of the mafia. Even though Zabre rescued her, they have now become estranged.

Darena always dreamed of being a Pokemon researcher, and was encouraged by her mother, a breeder specializing in unusually-colored Pokemon. She graduated from the Yukinari Okido Technical Institute when she was 21 and is currently working on her master's project. Ever since the Orre government began researching Pokemon and human genes, she's been on the hunt for the legendary Pokemon, Mew. The Pokemon is claimed to have been cloned successfully once before, and she thinks its genes may hold the key to successfully created enhanced humans.

Zabre disagrees with her intensely, and they had several fights about Darena's plans to capture the legendary Mew and about each other's ethics in general. Their last fight ended with Darena threatening to turn in the capo to the police for being in the mafia. Since then, Zabre's gone into hiding, leaving Darena to continue her research and hunt for Mew in peace.
