Name: S'lin (formerly Salin) Age: 17? (Impressed at 14) Gender: female Sexual Orientation: heterosexual Craft/Rank: dragonhealer Apprentice
History: Salin was born in Malvren Weyr, and like many weyr babies, she was the product of a Flight. Her mother was a crimsonrider, her father a brownrider, so neither parent had time to care for a baby. She was fostered out to one of the kitchen staff, but she kept in close contact with her parents, and visited them and their dragons often. Her early years were spent clambering over hills of crimson and brown hide, since the dragons were fond of their riders' child and let her play on them. She quickly learned where the dragons liked to be scratched, how to spot the itchy patches of skin and how to oil them, so she was quick to spot dry patches as she climbed all over the dragons. She was just as quick to fetch the bucket of oil and apply it (though she was somewhat overenthusiastic and tended to make a mess of it), much to the dragons' appreciation and relief.
Not long after she tried to start playing with/on the other weyr dragons, but learned very quickly that they weren't necessarily as tolerant as her parents'. She still liked hanging around them, and would often help wash or oil them. Since she was hanging around the dragons so much, sometimes a rider would rope her into helping to tend an injured dragon, though she was generally given simple tasks like spreading numbweed or changing bandages, or simply talking to them in order to distract them while their riders did more difficult tasks. She liked taking care of the dragons and making them feel better, so she was glad to help.
When it came time for her to be Apprenticed to a craft, she was encouraged to join the Healers since she'd shown a fondness for tending the needs of the sick and injured. She started out happily enough and began to learn the basics of medicine and practice, but after a while it became evident that she had no patience for dealing with patients who, in her opinion, were being stubborn and dimglowed. This essentially meant that anyone who didn't do exactly as a healer said when they said it; many people would try to exert themselves before they were healed, or would complain (about the taste of the medicine, the boredom of waiting, etc.) or would try to insist their injury was just a scratch, they had to go see to their dragon. She grew snappish with such people very quickly, and had a terrible bedside manner. Her teachers would remind her frequently to calm down and treat the patients more kindly, especially since she was most often working with one of them. Under their watchful eye she would manage to restrain herself to some semblance of civility, but she never could manage it for long when she wasn't being directly watched. Someone remembered that she never got so irritated when tending dragons, and she was transferred to dragonhealing as an experiment. Immediately it was evident that she had endless patience with dragons and was rarely more than stern with them, so she remained permanently as a dragonhealer.
As many weyrborn children do, she was eager for a chance to Impress a dragon of her own, and could hardly wait until she was allowed to Stand as well. She's stood for every Hatching she was eligible for, and although she's not yet Impressed, she stays hopeful that the right dragon just hasn't been shelled yet. After all, some people have stood for years before they Impress.
Description: Her black hair is straight with a slight inward curve at the bottom, and she wears it cropped to just below the chin. She has a slightly tanned complexion, and the soft, rounded features of her face make hazel eyes look wide and almost innocent, except when they're narrowed in annoyance at someone she feels is being foolish. She is of average build, though slightly short for her age.
Personality: She has a very no-nonsense attitude with humans, but she's endlessly patient with dragons; willing to spend as long as necessary soothing them when hurt, frightened or worried. She readily forgives them if they cause a fuss, though she uses a mixture of stern scolding, patient soothing and plain old distraction to calm them down. Her patience is somewhat in the middle with flits, since they often seem to have so much less sense than dragons, but she can't really blame them for their limited intelligence.
She's got a stubborn streak, and when she thinks she's right about something it can be difficult to get her to bend, unless you pull rank on her. She readily listens to anyone with authority or who she feels has more knowledge on a subject than her, but if she feels someone has less knowledge than her she's likely to dismiss what they have to say on that subject.
When nothing's annoying her, she's cheerful and quite polite, since her parents and foster-mother made sure to drill manners into her head. She works hard on tasks if she thinks they're important (and understand that many different tasks are important to the care of dragons and running of the Weyr), but if she's set to tasks she does not think worth the time (or simply not worth her time), she tends to do them with ill grace and sometimes slowly or poorly, but she'll still do the work.

Name: Dranith Colour: Green Size: Average Build: Slim Threadfighting stats: Agility: +2, HP: 31 Personality: Dranith always comes off as slight worried about something, though at first it’s difficult to say why. After all, she’s the very model of a Malvren green. Brightly colored, deft of wing, and charming to converse with, Dranith will have no trouble attracting potential friends. Though tense, she’s not particularly shy, and enjoys spending time with her fellows and wingmates. Usually, she is color-blind and will approach a gold as easily as a black, though when it comes to wing practice and taking orders she knows her place and isn’t one to break rank. Despite her well-placed humility, she does have pride in her flying talents. Dranith is sure to dazzle during drills and duck thread with skill when the time comes. Should her rider be driven, the two will be known in the weyr for learning to perform astonishing displays. Despite her ability, Dranith seems forever edgy. She keeps her tail and wings to herself when she sunbathes, and in social situations she’ll become nervous if questioned about anything overmuch. The truth of the matter is that Dranith couldn’t tell a lie to save her life. She can try, but even on inconsequential matters, any efforts at falsity make her so twitchy that nervous as to make her entirely transparent. Dranith doesn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, and she’ll follow up any hurtful truth with a matching compliment, but not everyone wants to hear that their rider looks foolish in those clothes, or that they’d fly better if they weren’t so fat, and apologies won’t always make up for her bluntness. Her truthfulness knows no bounds, and she will be honest about her opinions even to the queen. Some will value her honesty, and others will not, but in either case this green will remain a bit edgy. Often she blames her discomfort on the problems that arise out of her candor, but even among accepting friends, Dranith keeps her generalized anxiety. While she makes friends quickly, her nervousness may prevent her from becoming especially close with anyone and her tendency to worry and fret will make it difficult to coax her into new experiences – unless it has to do with flying of course! In moments of stress, she tends to panic and freeze unless her rider can find a way to calm her. Luckily all dragons are born to seer thread and she’ll usually be resistant to such moments during a Fall, but otherwise she’s likely to need an encouraging hand from time to time. Outside of her Rider’s caresses, Dranith isn’t a very touchy-feely dragon and will tend to avoid physical contact with others. She will dread waiting for Flights, but once in the air her acrobatic skill and instinct will take hold and she’ll have no trouble dazzling the males. Why Me? If there was anyone who ever needed Salin’s patience, it is Dranith. This green will never stop being worried, but Salin’s patience and encouragement will be invaluable when the green needs her nerves settled for a critical situation. The manners Salin’s parents gave her will also come in handy when Dranith inevitably hurts someone’s feelings with her honesty we asll. However, when Salin is having a stubborn moment Dranith will be there to point out that her nose is stuck up too far in the air for her to see truth, and with the bond they share Salin will know her dragon is speaking her mind without any intention of just opposing her for the sake of it. Furthermore, Salin’s attention to important tasks and Dranith’s love of flight will make them a formidable pair in the air, though the dragon’s encouragement might not be enough to overcome Salin’s stubborn distain for “unimportant” tasks, which may get them both in trouble.
