OOC Leader: Mia Sharra IC Leader:
Pride Symbol: A lion's mane. Cert Background: (Not entirely sure what to make this right now.)
Main Gods: The following three gods are those revered on a daily basis, however the worship of other gods is quite common depending on the situation. Earth Manes Strength
This pride is mainly based on dwarfs from a few different sources. Mainly World of Warcraft and Dragon Age, though I may have unconciously put in inspiration from other sources.

.......::History::
From the earth the Gods brought forth life, combining stone with dirt to form the original pride, the Klaanin Kolmesta. This pride was a large one, centered around a large mountain. This pride was ruled by a High King, and split under him in to three clans; The Bronzemane, the Wildpaw, and the Dark Pelt. However upon the king’s death a civil war broke out between the clans, each fighting for supremacy. The fight raged on for nearly a month, however finally the Bronzemane came out victorious. As they claimed stake to the territory they had won they proceeded to banish the other clans from the lands.
The Wildpaw moved on north after their defeat, settling down in some wetlands that they decided to call home. They proceeded to construct their dens and rebuild their treasure hoard, which had been lost in the fight. They had not been there long before an attack came. The Dark Pelt, angry with their loss, set out a two pronged attack on both the Bronzemane and Wildpaw, hoping by doing these to keep either one from aiding the other. The force sent to attack the Wildpaw was led by the Dark Pelt’s Queen, while the King led the other half. They lay siege to the Wildpaw clan and a furious battle ensued before the Queen was finally slain by the Wildpaw’s leader. After her defeat the remaining Dark Pelt lions fled. As they gave chase the fleeing force ran in to a wall of Bronzeman lions, who had also been victorious.
After the Dark Pelt clan was defeated the Wildpaw clan returned to their wetlands, but after finding their home destroyed, and their numbers diminished, they decided to move on. The area was less than ideal to start with, and now it was littered with death. So they decided to continue moving on to find a better home. Many days passed as their strength and morale started to diminish. Finally the small pride was forced to seek shelter. So dire were the circumstanced that the pride sought help from the closest allies they could find. Thus the broken pride found shelter within the Nyota-Wosomaji. This pack of wild dogs took them in, giving them a temporary home as they tended to the wounded. During their stay they did what they could to earn their keep, giving meat from their hunts to the pack whose lands they stayed in as they healed. It took some time before they were able to leave. Once all within their clan had seen to their wounds they set out once more, giving farewells and thanks to the pack that took them in and travelling further north, determined to find a home for their own.
Many days passed before they finally reached the lands they came to call the Hinterlands. A short mountain range with one large, dominating mountain lay to the north of the land. To the West lay another longer mountain range, cutting that direction off from the lands beyond, however these mountains did not connect, instead there was a large gap, an access route to the land beyond that was filled with trees. To the east lay hills which flattened out in to tree covered plains, and the South was a large lake, beyond it more plains, these more open.
Upon arrival at the largest mountain in the short, northern range they found an opening, and through it a large cavern. It was surely fate that they were to come here, banished from their previous mountain home only to find one to call their own. Favor must have been upon them that day. It was here that they would make their new home, replenish their treasure, as well as their pride numbers, and become strong once more. They would also welcome those wounded or unable to protect themselves in to repay the kindness that had been shown to them in their hour of need. With their old pride gone they came to name their new one the Alkunsa Kiven.

.......::The Lands::
The territory is shaped almost like a rain drop, though it's tip is flattened. This flat end is the northern border which consists of a short mountai range. Within this range is one larger dominant mountain, which is the home to the majority of the pride. Another range of mountains runs along the western border. This one is longer than those on the north, but much shorter. They still serve as a barrier between the land and those beyond however. These two mountain ranges do not connect and instead there is a tree-filled gap between them, which served as a pathway mainly used for trading with lands behind the mountains. Most of the land within the borders are plains, and as you come near the eastern border a forest starts to form. most of the forest within the pride's lands are thing, but thickens as you reach the border and continues on from there. The souther border curves along the far end of a large lake, a lake which is fed by a river that flows in from rogue lands, and then flows north in to the northern mountains in to an underground river.
The largest mountain ia refereed to as Aerie Peak, home to the majority of the pride. At it's base is a natural doorway, big enough for three fully grown lions to walk in side by side, and after a short tunnel oens up to an expansive cavern. This is the main cavern, used as not only a meeting place but as an in pride market. Large rocks rolled together make up stalls, on which are placed goods.
Straight ahead from the entrance tunnel is another opening, this one leading in to a much smaller area. This is called the King's Chamber and is basically a throne room for the High Thane. Along it's walls sit large chunks of diamond that have been dug up, usedd as decoration as they are too hard to break apart. This chamber is also the only entrance to the opening to Earth's Doorway. This is a small area below the King's Chamber which contains little more than a chasm. This chasm is said to end in the treasure room of the earth.
Branching off from the main cavern are multiple other tunnels, three of which lead to the denning areas of he three clans, one leading to the nobility's dens, and a final one leadig to the birthing dens. The living dens are naturally made, ranging from small enough for a family of two and cubs, to large enough for a family of four and all their cubs.
To the right of the entrance to the King's Chamber is the tunnel leading to the nobility dens. These are where the Thane and High Thane families live. Further right along the entrance cavern is a tunnel that slopes downward leading to the dens of the Stone Clan, directly beside this is the entance that leads down to the mining tunnels. To the left of King's Chamber is a tunnel that slopes lightly upwards, leading to the living dens of the Claw Clan. Further to the left is the entrance to Earth Clan's living dens, these are mostly on the ground floor. Between the entrances to Claw and Earth dens is a short tunnel leading to a small cavern and a few small dens. The cavern is for the elderly, which is situated closer to the entrance cavern so the older members can more easily get out. After this are the birthign dens. The birthing dens are a few small sized dens, each with a ring of rocks in them. The rocks are situated so that the largest middle one is against the wall, and those connecting get smaller as it goes around with he smallest being short enough for an adult lion to step over, but too large for a newborn cub to get out.
Lastly, beside Aerie Peak, directly to it's right, is a smaller peak that is used as the home to those of he maneless rank, except any familiars 'owned' by a maned member. This one also has natural caves and caverns. The dens closest to the entrance are for those that are Maneless simply for their lack of manes, and those further back in the mountain for those in the rank because they have done something disgraceful.

.......::Ranks and Clans::
........Nobility Ranks. ..High Thane.. The Leader of the pride. This rank is normally inherited, and while this is usually from father to son it is not impossible for a daughter to inherit it, however this has yet to happen.
..Honored Lady/Lord.. The mate to the High Thane.
..Heir.. The one chosen to be the next High Thane. If the previous High Thane did not choose an Heir then the Thanes will pick it.
..Prince/Princess.. Titles given to the children of the High Thane and Honored Lady/Lord.
..Thane.. The head of one of the three clans. They oversee their specialized ranks as well as in-clan disputes that are not seen as important enough to be brought to the High Thane. They report to the High Thane himself, and take their orders directly from him.
..Consort.. Wife(s)/Husband(s) of one of the Thanes.
..Noble.. Children of a Thane and their Consort.
..Paragon.. A lion who is a living legend. They have done or discovered something so grand that the pride believes them to be blessed by the gods. They are seen more highly than others in the pride, perhaps even as higly as the High Thane himself. By managing this feat their family name gains fame through the pride.
---Example: Lion Nameface, who discovered a way to gather fire and heat the metals they mine. This discovery allowed them to create not only the simple jewelry they wear and trade, but other items they use on a daily basis such as their crude bowls.
........Common Ranks.
..Shaman.. The healers and medicine makers of the pride. Shamans are said to be blessed with the knowledge of healing herbs by the earth, and use them to make various medicines and poultices for the injured and ill. They also care for pregnant mother lions before and after birth, and then watch over the newly born cubs. Shamans are also responsible for the death ceremony, making sure the body returns to the earth.
..Guardian.. These are the peace-keepers within the pride. They patrol both outside and in the Peak. Should a fight occur inside they will break it up before damage can be done. Outside they will meet roaming rogues, either direct them to the Peak should their destination be set there, or out of the lands if they have come to make trouble. They are also the first to defend against attacks on pride lands.
..Miner.. Within the lower levels of the mountain's tunnels lays an abundance of raw materials, and Miners are the ones to find it! These lions dig out the various gems and precious metals that can be later crafted. They also collect large stones to be used by masons for various things. Because it is a very dangerous job, due to the possibility of a tunnel collapsing, apprentice miners are only allowed in the higher parts of the mining tunnels, or must be accompanied by a more experienced miner in lower levels.
..Mason.. While rocks might not be all that useful for jewelry they can still be useful. A Mason takes those ugly, gray lumps and turns them in to various things, mainly containers such as bowls. These can have many uses, either in storage, or putting plants in to crush to make dyes. They also make larger containers that hold fermented berry juice, complete with a thin lid to keep it nice and fresh. Aside from containers though small statues are also a possibility, though less common due to the skill it takes to create.
..Farmer:.. These lions care for the herbs and plants grown at the base of the mountain home. Each lion receives a modest sized piece of land upon becoming a farmer to plant what they want to grown. Normally these are either medicinal herbs, plants that can be turned in to dyes, or various berries to be fermented in to drinks.
..Brewer.. Through berries and other plants grown the Brewer can make a variety of drinks. The pride as a whole are quite fond of the fermented concoctions the Bewers make, and thus they tend to make a lot of them. They do make lighter, non-fermented drinks as well for cubs that are mainly juices.
..Hunter.. (Default Rank for lions and lion hybrids) Food is an essential part of any pride, and the Kiven are obviously no exception. Hunters go out and do just that, hunt for food. They bring it back to be shared amongst the pride as a whole, with cubs and the eldery being taken care of first. While food itself is not a tradeable resource within the pride the furs/pelts and bones are, and may be taken by the hunter to do with as they wish.
..Crafter.. Fur-weaving, dyeing fur and making jewelry are the normal specialties of a Crafter, though they are not limitd to these. They tend to have very dexterous paws that allow them to more easily craft things.A crafter will usually choose something to specialize in to become very skilled in one trade instead of only being decent in a few. This does not mean you can not try to master everything, but it is very rare to succeed.
..Merchant.. Usually good talkers as they have to be to convince you to buy their wares. They are also usually more sociable when it comes toward other prides, as they will travel out of the Kiven lands to trade for more exotic items that might find interest in the pride.
..Maneless.. (Default Rank for non-lions and non-lion hybrids.) The default rank of any species joining that does not naturally have a mane. They are usually looked at with pity, since having no mane is seen as a weakness, thus they are seen as naturally weak. However they are not looked down upon and are still expected to earn their keep in the pride. They tend to do odd jobs here and there, usually just things requested by another in the pride. Messengers, fetching things, taking care of cubs or the elderly are a few examples. There is another side to this rank though, the more unfavorable side. This Rank also encompasses those who had manes shaved off, due to having done something disgraceful in the pride. These tend to be looked down upon for what they have done, but are not kicked out of the pride. They lose their Name, clan and their rank. They are forced to also do odd jobs, though they tend to get the dirtier work.
..Apprentice.. When a lion becomes an adolescent they are are able to choose a craft they wish to learn. Originally a young lion would inherit the rank of their parents, father to sons and mother to daughters, however this tradition broke after they were banished. After the adolescent chooses what they want to grow up to be they will apprentice to a more experienced member of that craft and learn under them until adulthood. (Apprenticing can be RP'd out if you find someone, but is otherwise assumed to happen.)
..Youth.. The young of the pride. They will be taught the pride ways and hopefully learn that being a productive member of society is something they should strive for.
........The Clans. There are three clans within the Alkunsa Kiven. Each one run by a Thane, and each having a Rank specific to that clan.
..Mane Clan.. High Thane ruled. This is the clan composed of the High Thane and his family line. The only way into this clan is by marriage, or the High Thane personally inviting you in. The family within the Mane Clan, while not completely exempt from work are also not limited to any ranks and may take any job they wish.
..Stone Clan.. Thane: ?? Specialty Rank: Mining. -They tend to have a preference for ranks dealing in stone work, though are of course allowed to take any other rank not specific to a different clan.
..Earth Clan.. Thane: ?? Specialty Rank: Farming. -They tend to have a preference for ranks dealing more with the nature outside the mountain, though are of course allowed to take any other rank not specific to a different clan.
..Claw Clan.. Thane: ?? Specialty Rank: Crafting. -They tend to have a preference for ranks dealing more with the making and selling of things, though are of course allowed to take any other rank not specific to a different clan.

.......::Beliefs and Celebrations:: If a celebration of any sort happens, assume there is drinking!
Accepted Species: All species are welcome, however only species with manes are allowed to hold a true rank, all others recieve the rank of Maneless.
Colours: All colours are acceptable, though older members may be more wary of black or very dark base pelts, due to the attack from the Dark Pelts on the pride previously.
Flings: Acceptable, both in and out of the pride. A fling within a marriage, however, will bring disgrace upon the offending party's family. Flinging in a marriage will result in the offending member having their mane shaven if possible and a mark temporarily painted on to their forehead. This mark is one of dishonor, showing the pride that you were not worthy of your mane and/or have done something dishonorable. The only exception to this is in the case of a pairing who can not viably produce children, for whatever reasons. In such a case a surrogate is allowed if the two within the marriage as long as all persons involved are okay with it. (Flings and marriage will simply require posting in a thread, and not require an approval reply to post for breeding)
Marriage: Those who choose to be bonded together for love are seen as becoming stronger for it and are believed to be blessed upon their decision, because the strength of their bonds strengthens the pride as a whole. It is said that by doing so it also makes your cubs grow up healthier and stronger, however this is unlikely true, but still widely believed. However marriage is still a choice, and it isn't for everyone. Only adults may marry, as anything younger is seen as too young to make such a decision.(Basically just make sure to let them know OOC. Will also be required to mention it within a breeding thread once it is up. All other marriage rules apply. )
(Flings and marriage will simply require posting in a thread, and not require an approval reply to post for breeding. Though marriages will be put on a list, simply for record keeping.)
Divorce: Breaking the bond between a married pair tends is seen to weaken the pride as a whole. As such it is usually only done with good reason, but is possible.
Sexuality: Same sex pairings are perfectly acceptable. The pride has no prejudices towards those that find love within the same sex. Marriage between a pairing of the same sex is also acceptable, however flinging rules outside a marriage still apply. This is still seen as a bond that strengthens the pride as a whole, however there is an exception. In cases where a member can not produce children of their own a surrogate can be used as long as the other within the marriage is aware and okay with it.
(Basically just make sure to let them know OOC. Will also be required to mention it within a breeding thread once it is up. All other marriage rules apply. )
Family Names: The family name is inherited from the father, and when a female marries she takes this name as she is now part of that family. The exception to this is in the case of a Maneless who do not recieve the family name if they marry in to one, nor do they change their Maneless rank. However if their babies have manes then these babies will receive the family name. Names are important as they can carry either strength from great deeds, or weakness from shame upon them. A strong name is viewed as highly as a large mane within the pride.
-Rogues joining; Joining rogues can get a name either by being invited into a family, marrying into one or presenting a family name to the Thane of their chosen clan.
-Same Sex Couples; When a pair of the same sex marry one is still expected to take the family name and clan of the other. While the pride allows for these to be together they will not back down on this tradition. Thus, when a pairing of the same sex marry you will have to choose which family name they take, and the one changing their name will still have to move to the other's clan.
--A Family Name; Family names tend to follow a similar style. Current family names are Wildpaw, Nimbleclaw and Thunderroar. However further examples are Dark Pelt and Bronzemane. (Two that will likely not show up, but may at some point in the future. )
Clans: There are three clans within the pride, each run by a Thane. Unlike Family Names a maned rogue may choose a clan upon joining. In a marriage a lioness will go to the male's clan, as well as taking his family name. If she has a Rank specific to her previous clan then she must take a new one, as she is no longer part of that clan.
Provings: These are fights to settle debates and honor challenges than can not otherwise be settled. These can often end in death. This death can be seen as a favorable one as it avoids a larger battle between families, but most of the time will just end with serious injuries at most.
Death: When a member of the pride dies the body has to be buried within the earth before that day's end or it is believed they can not reach their original home deep inside the earth. Because of this deaths are taken quite seriously, and before anything else that fallen member must be buried. Celebrations will stop to do this, and continue only after it has been done. Should they be unable to bury the body within the day of it's death they will mourn it, for that lion is lost and shall never walk the earthen home with their ancestors. If, however, they are buried in time then a small celebration is had around their 'grave' where fermented drinks are poured on to the ground. If the fallen lion is going to be leaving for the earthen home then he might as well go with a few drinks.
Birth: Birthing is a private event, usually only involving the expecting female and a Shaman attending to her and her cubs. After the cubs are born they are placed within a circle of stone and must stay there for the first hour after birth. This is done so that the cubs may grow up to be strong and sturdy as the stones themselves. Only after this hour may the cubs be seem by the rest of their family and pride.
Manes: Large, natural manes are seen as a sign of strength among the pride. However a tradition arose of weaving extra fur in to one's mane, making it appear larger. Some may also decorate them with various things such as feathers or simple jewelry. Now there is only once a year when one can see the natural manes of all within the pride.
~~Mane Tribunal: This is a hearing given to those that have lost their manes and been sent to the Maneless rank. They only occur when the offending lion's mane grows back(Or the equivalent amount of time for females.) If they are found to have not tried to make amends for what it is they have done then they have their manes shaven again and the mark of dishonor re-painted back on to their foreheads. This will continue until either their manes stop growing back, at which point a permanent mark is placed on their forehead, or they are seen as having made amends and are allowed back in to their old rank/clan/family. (OOC: You can try once a month to get your sentence overturned to a max of four tries. Thus after four months of trying and you are still found guilty you are stuck in the Maneless rank. You are free to keep them as Maneless for plot reasons.)
~~Festivals and stuff ..Earth's Awakening Through winter it is believed that the earth sleeps, replenishing it's strength for the next year. With Spring's arrival so followed the awakening of the earth, ushering in the new greenery for the coming year. At the beginning of Spring the pride has a celebration to the Goddess of Earth, who they view as the mother of the Kiven, welcoming her back from her wintery nap and giving thanks to the new harvests to come.
During this festival the pride takes gifts down to the cavern below the King's Chamber. This gift an be anything the individual find suitable. Whether it is a special stone one found by the river, or something they made themselves. These gifts are dropped in to the long chasm within this chamber, falling in to the treasure room of the Goddess that is believed to reside at it's bottom. After this has been done there is a feast to usher in the new year, and much drinking.
..Tournament of Strength Every year in the middle of Summer the pride holds a tournament to find the best and strongest fighters in the pride. All those of Adolescence or older are able to participate, including Maneless. The winner of the tournament is allowed entrance in to a Clan of their choosing, and may even get offers in to a family. This is one of the only known ways for a Maneless to move ranks and enter a Clan and family.
After the tournament is over there is feasting and, of course, drinking. Along with this goes other shows of strength and agility, such as races and rock pushing. These are mostly just for fun and amusement though, and even younger ones are able to join, though their rocks will be much smaller.
..The FURstival- (HAR HAR HAR! I'll think of an actual name.) The fall festival is one focusing on manes, which are seen as a mor obvious sign of strength. It happens in late Fall, after the last harvest before winter. During this time all in the pride are expected to remove extra fur and show off their natural manes. Not doing so is seen as disgraceful, since you are dishonoring the gods which blessed you with that mane. While this won't carry any long term repercussions they may get mocked a bit for it since it is seen as hiding weakness under 'fake' fur.
It is also to celebrate the coming end of the year, as it happens after the final harvest before winter. With it comes the last feast before spring, and as with all events includes drinking. A lot of flexing and harmless shows of strength tend to also come along with it, as it is also seen as a good time to scope out prospective mates, considering most males should be sporting their natural born manes and thus showing off their true strengths.

There we go. With a recent update I saw annoying little snags in multiple marriages so that has been removed completely, and a few things added in on same sex pairings. I think i changed all the info I needed to to update for that, but i will double check later.
