Location: Trine

After some poking around, you are pointed in the direction of the Storage Rooms - rooms that are often out of the way, secluded, or easy to hide in. Perhaps the assassin left some clues behind in these places. Located in the general living quarters of the weyrfolk, the storage rooms are off main hallways and contain everything from linens to oil and candles, things useful in the running of a Weyr.

The first room your group checks smells acrid and sterile from the antiseptic that's stored in glass jars. A medical supply cabinet for the healer's room in the living quarters, it's full of shiny medical instruments, linens, wrappings, and one wall is covered in dried medicial herbs. A woman stands on a footstool, reaching for a pile of fresh bandages and looks over her shoulder at you with narrowed gaze, displeased you've interrupted her task "Yes? Do you make a habit of bursting in on people in closets?"

Investigation Week 2

  • Only the NPC described in the last (third) paragraph may be interviewed.
  • This is an ORP that will be lead by Staff - staff will be posting responses based on the posts received once or twice a day, each character can post as they want but the NPC response will not wait for all to post before answering.
  • Feel free to ask whatever questions that your character would ask!
  • Remember that this is an investigation about the Mystery Man who assassinated two ranking Riders and tried to kill a third.
  • A Hint: Look for relations between rumors and things said but remember not everyone knows the truth! Think about the answers you receive!

It took a lot to really ruffle Set'al, or to rouse him to action; he much preferred to meander through life, enjoy himself, and more or less mind his own business while he was at it. This whole investigation thing ran a little counter to his usual tendencies, and while he knew he should be involved - partly because Pipith kept reminding him - he hadn't been terribly enthusiastic about it thus far. He'd mostly just tagged along and not offered much input, since...well, he hadn't had much to offer, and he wasn't one to butt in unless he actually had something.

To be honest, he still didn't have anything, unless injured pride and a fuming dragon counted. There were people saying he and Pipith had had something to do with the murders! It was absurd, and it was absolutely infuriating. He'd understood when they'd transferred why people might be a bit suspicious of the pair of them, given what had happened with Benden shortly before, but...but this was different. They were being implicated in something terrible, something neither of them in a million Turns would be involved with. Now they had no choice to figure this out.

That quiet seething didn't keep him from being polite, though, and he looked suitably scolded when the woman the group came upon reacted with annoyance. "Sorry. We're just looking for some information, that's all. Have you seen or found anything out of the ordinary lately?"

Cetalese let Set'al address the prickly woman first. This was not the healer she'd gotten her information from, though the woman looked familiar. Not familiar enough for Ceta to know her name, but familiar. At least Ceta could say she belonged at the weyr and wasn't another "stranger" sneaking in. Down here in the storage rooms, since they were looking for signs of the killer, anything seemed like a possibility, though logically Cetalese didn't really think they were going to find anything of the sort. Abigail had been killed by the lake; if the killer was there, why would they find anything in the storage rooms? Still, it never hurt to talk to every able body they could, and this healer could be another to add to that list.

Set'al's response to the healer's sass was surprisingly calm, but Cetalese understood that. She, too, often didn't let harsh behavior ruffle her too much; she was more like to step aside and let the person bowl past her than to fight. Halith hadn't really helped with that any, unless you counted that Ceta was getting very good at apologizing to people she barely knew.

How she wound up down in the storage rooms to begin with was a mystery in itself. Though in fairness, Narisa had noticed what she thought at first was a strange 'shadow' moving along the walls, only to discover that it was someone she knew heading down to the storage rooms. So, curious to begin with on top of some prompting from Cepheith, the goldrider had followed Cetalese. Though once she entered the room quietly, offering Cetalese a smile, Narisa was slightly relieved to see yet another familiar face in Set'al.

However that smile turned to a slight frown. She'd caught wind of the rumor that Set'al and Pipith were 'involved' in the murders. Somehow. Though she and her dragon could not believe it. Cepheith flat out disagreed and refused to. Narisa tried to keep an open mind, but was not doing so well. She didn't think the bronze pair was involved. And...he was in her group! There was no way she could point a finger at him! Plus, the bronze pair was rather sweet.

Shoving that to the back of her mind for now, Narisa focused on the displeased woman. She seemed rather unhappy that anyone had shown up and disrupted her from her task. Narisa sighed softly.

"Sorry, ma'am." She added after Set'al spoke, pausing while he asked his question. "Or by chance have you heard strange talk among those that have looser tongues?" Like the healer women she'd overheard before. "We'd appreciate if you could share anything you might know with us." She added politely. Cepheith snorted in the back of her mind.

Cetalese turned as Narisa came up and she smiled slightly at the other girl. Narisa had a way of putting words together politely, rather than making it a demand. Ceta got the impression that she would be a good Weyrwoman for Trine, when the time came, especially with her Gold partner. Cepheith had the ambition and bearing of a Queen, and Narisa had the diplomacy.

No one for her group was around, so Cetalese figured she should probably try to make strides for gathering information to share with them later, and work with the members of the other Trine groups who did happen to be about.

"If nothing else, perhaps you have more information on Abigail's condition and the final condition of the murderer," Cetalese added. "The healers were the closest to the murderer after his death. We've heard a little about the murderer's looks, but not much." She paused, then added more quietly, though her gaze was direct, "And everyone is still worried about Abigail, of course."

Optheli had cheerfully headed down to the Storage Rooms with her group. It had been so long since the attack, but just maybe they could find something useful down here. Instead they found a grumpy healer. The greenrider gave her a friendly grin, “but isn’t being down here with company better than being down here alone?” Ismay gave the healer a trill.

“Since you’re here though, would you mind answering a few questions? Do you know of any rooms that might be good for spies and traitors to have secret meetings down here? If you could point out rooms that aren’t used or visited often that would be great.” Optheli gave another friendly smile. Maybe she could offer to help the healer after this was all over.

Mine, go to the rooms. The others are there. Neptanth told S'kiro as he was getting a quick oil and scratch. Just leave the little ones with me, they can get that spot right there. The large blue moved his shoulder to show where.

S'kiro laughed, "Fine, I will leave the Ripple and Sprite with you. See if you can find out anything from them. They might be able to show you something." With that, the bluerider went to find his group at the storage room. He wasn't sure which room it was, but hearing the voices pointed him in the right direction. Reaching the room, he noticed the healer grabbing some stuff. "Do you need help getting some stuff down? We really didn't mean to startle you, but we are trying to find any information about the murders."

G'brel was totally pumped. She didn't have too much authentic information yet, but she was determined that she and Lifth (well, and their group too, she supposed) would be the first ones to solve the mystery behind these recent attacks. She was disappointed to have not been in the Mess Hall at the time that everyone was having conversation with that brownrider, but fortunately her teammates had been able to fill her in on what she'd missed-- which wasn't much, apparently. Aside from some firm judgments against Benden, which her dragon seemed rather disinclined to fully believe. She herself wasn't quite sure what to believe yet, but they'd get to the bottom of it for sure!

Thus said, when G'brel spotted a small gathering of people concentrating together at a storage room, she didn't hesitate to approach. "Heya, guys!" she greeted cheerfully, a grin on her face. "Someone find something in here?" What there would be to find she didn't know, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

The healer collected the bandages she had been reaching for and stepped down off her stool before replying. "I'm f-fine, s-see, I can r-reach my own s-s-supplies.... A-and I've h-heard plenty," she nodded, apparently quite confident despite her stammer, "E-everyone's talking about the m-murders, and the attempted m-murder.... I d-don't m-m-mind talking, if what I know m-might be h-helpful. A-abigail is... u-unchanged," a mixture of sadness and anger flashed over the healer's face then and she shook her head. "I n-never saw t-the body of the m-man who tried t-t-to kill her, so I c-can't tell you anything of h-him.... Umm.... R-really all the s-storage space is used q-quite regularly. If I were l-looking to meet in s-s-s-s-s... in s-secret I w-would do it outside s-somewhere, I t-think, or b-better y-yet away from h-here. We know a dragon was involved s-so the killer could have m-met with others to m-make plans a-anywhere... M-m-malvren for example," she said, narrowing her eyes and ignoring the fact that her stuttering had rather robbed her implied accusation of drama.

Set'al didn't miss Narisa's little frown; the rumors had people looking at him and Pipith, and it had him looking at everyone else, noticing the differences in their expressions. The goldrider had seemed rather pleased to see him last week, but today didn't greet him. He frowned, himself, and suppressed a sigh. This was even worse than when he'd first transferred!

For now, he sucked it up and tried to focus on the task at hand. The sooner this was over, the sooner things could go back to normal. "Malvren? Did all this start there, you think?"

Why would one New Weyr strike another?

“Something sure is stirring,” commented Z’iv, who was leaning casually against a shelf. “Could be that they’re from Malvren,” he went on, amber eyes flicking around at the group, “Or could be they’re from here, or Benden, or the Holds, or a mix.... Whoever they are though they sure aren’t happy. Something worth killing for, and risking their lives for. This is more than just one guy with a grudge... if you ask me anyway.” Not that anyone had, but he was as entitled to give his eighth mark’s worth as anyone else.

The healer pursed her lips, regarding the languid blackrider with some disapproval. After a brief stare she dismissed him as just the kind of smooth talking layabout she despised and pointedly turned away. “M-malvren. Yes,” she turned to Set'al and nodded. “T-they’re the s-shining s-star new Weyr w-with their White, and even b-before that t-they t-thought they were superior... s-s-some of them a-anyway,” she allowed with a slight shrug. “A-anyway, the most s-s-s-s... s-solid evidence we h-have connected to these m-murders p-points to them. I t-think it was an e-e-extremist. D-did you note it w-was their w-weyrleader that was struck, not their w-w-w-w-w... s-senior goldrider? A t-traitor to t-them, m-making a p-play for p-power, and trying t-t-to weaken other W-weyrs t-too. M-maybe it w-was their n-new w-weyrleader w-who organised it all... or m-maybe he has c-cause to be nervous.”
