Sara and Bataar come face to face again, hopefully things will be back to normal soon.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 01, 2012 8:51 am

The past couple of days had not really gone as planned, it started with a huge fight with Bataar, then she had been ambushed on the road and last but not least this whole business with her promotion had come up. It not only meant she was going to be meeting with Mizuki (who she was terrified of), it also meant she would be leaving the city for a little while. Sara had wanted to be a Priestess for so long, though now it was so close she was starting to get nervous. It finally started to kick in how much it would affect her relationships and her life here.

She had given Bataar a couple of days to cool down, leaving him alone after she had wrapped up his arm and healed him as much as she could at the time. He was unconscious, she did not say goodbye but she was hoping the fact she healed him showed him she cared. She might have left it a little longer, but seeing as her time here was now limited she did not want to waste anymore with him being angry with her, not that he did not have the right to be. If he needed her to grovel then she would, though hopefully it would not come to that. She just wanted to get back in his good books before she left.

As of right now he was not living alone, she would not understand how him and Van had become roommates but for now she had chosen to just accept the fact. Somehow it had worked out and it was a good thing, I mean two of her favourite people could be found in the same place, she just hoped they would not kill each other. Bataar might have to think twice about his sleeping arrangements and actions from now on, Van was not a girl who met half way.

It was either her way or a foot to the face. She knew Van well enough to know that.

She came up to the Ger and looked on, last time she had learned to not just enter... for numerous reasons. So instead she went up to the door and cocked her head to one side curiously, where they both in or? "Hello?" She called in pale eyes looking to search the ground, the last thing she wanted to do was step on a rat and have him raging at her.

Bataar stood up in one fluid movement from where he'd been sitting, examining diagrams necessary for one of his missions that was coming up quickly. Someone was here, and he supposed that in Van's absence he was responsible for greeting whoever it was. He was about to open his mouth and tell the visitor to come on in when he heard Sara's voice and temporarily froze. Perhaps the girl was here to see Van, but there was no time for him to hide his face as she walked in.

He stared at her, his expression wooden. "Van's not here right now," the Mongol explained, glancing down at the bandages that still bound his forearms. Sara, at least looked as if she were fully recovered from their fight, which he didn't want to think about. He'd been haunted with too much guilt to be properly happy about her apparent acceptance of the fact that he hadn't slept with Van. Their fight had been a traumatic experience for the man, and he'd resolved to avoid Sara until further notice, but here she was. And Van was not here. He hoped that the soul conduit would leave upon learning this information. Perhaps she'd be able to catch the right vibe if he was lucky.

The captain shifted uncomfortably, knowing that at this point he was trying too hard to make something out of their current predicament. He still wasn't happy with Sara, after all, especially not after the things that she'd said and done. She hadn't believed him, and she'd insulted him beyond any degree of normalcy. Bat didn't want anything like that to happen again, and his solution was avoidance.

He still did not seem to be in the best of moods, but the conduit was going to work on him. She had known Bataar for a long time now and was sure she could pull him out of a rut if she wanted to, or at least if she was persistent enough. She wondered further inside, looking at him rather confused as he stated that Van was not around. At last something seemed to have worked to her advantage, even if it was just timing. "Who says I was looking for Van?" She asked with a small smirk, taking off her hat and cape before disregarding them onto the nearest bit of furniture, Sara pushed her long hair over her shoulders and then paused, seeing the documents on the table. She had learned by now he usually liked to hide them whilst she was around.

"Are you busy? I would hate to think I came all the way down here to walk back." The beach was further away then his old home and she had not come by horse, she thought that in itself was an excuse to stick around. She had thought about these things and was determined to stay here, even if he did not want her around right now. Next thing she knew the conduit was approaching the Captain, almost as if nothing had happened. She just wanted this meeting to be enjoyable, she wanted to enjoy the time she spent with him before she left and knew she would hate for them to part ways on bad terms. She did not like to think he hated her.

She knelled down besides him, her eyes away from the table and the papers that were on it. She did not touch him, but instead she tapped the bag that was over her shoulder. "Besides, that would also mean you would not be able to try this new tea I got from the market and that in itself is a crime." She reached in and pulled out a small jar, she had bought it this morning from that lady who made her cosmetics and perfumes, she really was a wonderful person and Sara did not know what she would do without her little shop. "What you say Hero? Can you take a break?" She asked, almost sweetly.

Bataar wasn't so certain himself that he'd be able to get out of this rut. He vividly recalled twisting Sara's wrist and grimaced, his green eyes darkening. It made no sense, then, that she should be here looking for him. Some of the things she'd said were enough to prove that, because even if she now accepted the fact that he hadn't slept with Van she had slapped him with various other labels and insults. It had almost been too much for the captain to stand.

He pursed his lips as she asked whether or not he was busy and glanced at his charts and diagrams, taking a moment to think. "Now's not a good time, Sara. This week's not a good time, this month isn't a good time, and I don't even know if this year is a good time," he said, more than prepared to drive the soul conduit away. She ought to know him better than that: it was going to take a while for both of them to heal, after all.

She was in now, though, trying to get him treats and things. "Sara," Bat pleaded, making a movement as if to shoo her out the door. If he could refer to any one thing as a mixed signal, this was probably it. He personally felt too confused by the events of the past few days to simply tolerate everything thrown in his direction.

"Well, I am glad." She stated with a small smile, almost as if she found his words amusing. He had said that he did not want to know her and now he seemed pretty determined to follow through with it, yet she was not ready to leave. Not until she said what she came here to say. "Chances are I won't be back till next year at least, maybe you won't be busy then." She nodded, wondering how long she would actually be away, or if he cared that she would be gone. Some people say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, maybe this would be the case.

Or maybe she was just being hopeful...

She put the jar down on the table next to all the papers and stood up. Tapping it a little closer before taking a step back. "Here, don't work too hard. It will give you a headache." She joked, putting her hand on his shoulder before turning to where her things had landed. She did not want to leave, but at the same time she did not like the tone in which he said her name, it was one she had never heard before. Pale eyes fell on the Captain once more as she picked up her cape, wondering if he would stop her. At this point she highly doubted that.

"I'm sorry, I just wanted to say that again before I left. I hope your arm gets better, remember to change the bandages." She nodded, wrapping the cape around slim shoulders. Maybe she had done a little too soon...

Bataar kept his mouth shut, but his jaw was tense as he listened to Sara. Maybe, if he were just to stay silent now, he could wring an explanation out of Van later. He was childishly determined to remain separated from Sarangerel until he was able to get over this, but now she was throwing something of a curveball at him. Why was she leaving? He didn't see how this was going to work, and he couldn't figure out any reasoning behind it. Was it important, then, that he forgive Sarangerel now?

It was certainly a conflict for the man. And now she was going to leave, and he wouldn't get the chance to say anything properly. The man stood abruptly and grabbed the soul conduit's arm as if to force his away from leaving. He then, against all of his mind's objections, pulled the girl into an embrace. Perhaps he hadn't forgiven her yet, but this was bound to say just as much. "Why are you leaving?" he asked against her ear, sounding tense.

If she was going to go he wasn't going to let her walk away just like that. It was almost as if the soul conduit had known that he'd have to do something if she spoke like that, and Bat supposed he'd been more surprised into his actions than anything else.

The man was well aware that his heartbeat was faster than it usually was, but he put it down to the strain of near-forgiveness. That was surely the issue here. Letting go of Sara, he turned his back to her and took a few strides across the room, picking up one of his charts as if to pretend that the embrace hadn't just happened. Now he was the one sending mixed signals. "And hurry up and tell me. Like I said, it's not a good time."

Sara looked up at him with large eyes as he grabbed her arm and the cape fell fro her shoulders as he pulled her into a hug, landing gently on the wooden panels bellow them. She might have mentioned she was not leaving right this second, but she did not want to ruin the moment. Her hand was be her chest so when she was pulled close she instinctively grabbed his coat and she held on tight. She could feel her cheeks reddening, so she looked away from his face, her fi was against his chest... listening to his heart. "I'm going to become a Priest Bataar." She finally stated, the words felt funny to speak out-loud. Like it was not really happening at all. She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath, she did not expect the hug. Her cheeks flushed and her throat went dry, as if it was too good to be true. Was he forgiving her?

"I am going to see Mizuki and then..." She took a moment to think about the woman who scared her so much, she had such a cold beauty to her, those eyes... left a long-lasting impression on her soul. She was not going to end up like her, she kept telling herself that but it never seemed to sink in. A small part of her thought she was going to end up insane and alone, there was still time. "Then I have to go on my pilgrimage. I am going to see the masters at the temple in the mountains, and they are going to train me. I am going to see why you love the North so much." She went on to say before he pulled away from her, she let go of him and looked on as he turned his back to her. She would have followed, but her feet seemed determined to stay exactly where they were. Suddenly he went cold again.

She looked to the floor, her tone more solemn than it was a few moments ago. "Then when I get back, I will be a Priestess and..." Her voice drifted off, then she would have to sneak out to see him and it would be an even bigger crime for them to be friends. ".. and." She muttered, as if she was fishing for a upside to this mess, it was what she had always wanted and now it was here she was so uncertain. She did not know if this was good news she brought... not in the way it concerned him.

She finally just shook her head and ran over to him, jumping up and wrapping her arms around his neck. Her feet barely touched the floor, if they were at all. She rested her head on his shoulder, arms clinging to his shoulders and chest. "And then, we are going to have a big party and you can take home all the leftover cake, as long as you promise to eat it before it gets moldy." She finally stated closing her eyes and burying her head into his neck. Her hand reached to play with the beads around his neck. She just wanted to stay here, just like they were, for a little longer.

Bataar swallowed, finding himself selfishly wishing that Sarangerel would neglect to take the promotion. A captain running around with a soul conduit or a fighter was one thing, but a priest was another thing entirely, especially when it came to the fact that Sara was of a different faction. He was happy now that he'd let go of the girl, because he'd gone cold, as if he'd only just now seriously realized the implications of any sort of a relationship with the Legionnaire-- whether it was romantic, or even just a friendship. Of course, she was going to go through with it. He wasn't stupid, and certainly knew that much. It was just that Bat hadn't expected it so soon.

He didn't want to hear about the pilgrimage, or any of it. Had he forgiven Sara just to have her run off to some other place now? It was hard to believe. A lot of it was just that Bat was so damned used to the soul conduit's presence by now. Even after such an enormous fight, she was still willing to come back in order to see him. In more ways than he wanted to think about, they were inseparable.

Before he knew it, the girl was assaulting him with an equally surprising sort of embrace, making the Mongol flush as he tried to figure out how to react. "You're a Legionnaire, Sara," he finally choked out, trying to bring some sense into the situation. It went without saying that he was a Noble. His every move was checked and rechecked, not to mention analyzed. Just the fact that he was living with Van left him with a constant barrage of questions as the Nobles tried to gain some insight into the soon-to-be Legionnaire captain's motivations for moving into the Noble neighborhood. All of it just tended to bring reality crashing down sometimes, and this was one of those moments where that needed to happen.

Bat carefully removed her arms from around himself and looked down at her, his green eyes serious. "You know as well as I do what that means once you become a priest." It meant separation, and probably never seeing each other, as surprising as it was to think about at this point. They would both be busy working their asses off for their respective sides.

It was, in short, not ideal.

Before she knew it she was getting put down, his tone was serious, deadly serious. She clenched her fists, biting her lip nervously as he talked. She knew, even though she wanted to fight the fact she knew it was naive to do so, they were doomed from the start. "Bataar I need to do this, I was born with this ability and not many people have it. Even though it seems tempting to not go through with it right now, if I gave it up so many people would die and... I could not be happy knowing that I let them for selfish reasons. I am sorry." If she was a fighter, she might have stepped down but she was a conduit. The spirits had chosen this path for her and she knew she needed to follow it.

She looked to the floor, her hands by her side limply. "I am not leaving for another month. Can't you at least give me that time?" She asked, almost hopefully. Her voice was gentle but at the same time quite sad, like she already knew what the answer was going to be. "Please. If we can not be friends forever, let us be until I leave." She asked, bowing her head a little, a few stray strands falling over her shoulders. She never wanted to stop seeing him, but if he had to she did not want to waste the time she had left. She would rather spend it creating memories that she could take with her. She really did mean what she said to him on the bridge and she knew that either way she was going to get hurt, she would just rather it be later.

She looked up at him finally, reaching out her hand and resting it on his chest, through the gap between his clothes. She knew the request was rather pathetic but she did not know what else to say.

Bataar nodded numbly, his green eyes seeking out the floor as he did his best to accept the fact that Sara would be lost from him. Becoming a priest in this day and age, where the war had progressed this far, meant that association with the other faction was going to be harder than ever. The Noble captain didn't see how it was possible for him to take any sort of priority, either. They might be friends, and Sara might feel something for him, but at the end of the day their positions in relation to each other certainly would not be able to withstand the war. Then again, a lot of this was about perceptions. It was about how seriously either one of them was going to take their allegiance. It was all going to depend.

He could understand why she was doing what she was doing. "I know," he muttered, doing his best not to look at the slender female in front of him. It was going to take more than a few words to get over this blow, he could tell. That was probably enough to apply to both of them, too. It was near impossible to accept the fact that Sara would be gone for any lengthy period of time, but it was even worse to think about the possibility that they'd never have the freedom to see each other again.

What was this supposed to be if he didn't want to allow some ridiculously short "friendship?" All of his thoughts were bent against the idea of it, but he couldn't place the reason. "I don't know," the Mongol confessed, feeling hopeless. His responses, he knew, were not entirely promising but he was still struggling to figure this out. "I don't want to be friends just for a month," he added, after a great deal of hesitation.

He took Sara's hand and held it for a moment, biting his lip out of indecision. She would have to understand what he was saying right now before they'd be able to talk the rest of this out. He didn't want things to be as insane with the two of them as they had been lately; that was too complicated. He worried that it was going to ruin everything.

"Bataar." She mumbled as he took hold of her hand. She put her other one on his and stepped forward, pressing her lips against his large fingers. She breathed deep and tried to clear her mind. She did not want to be friends for just a month either, she wanted to be here with him forever. She just could not see how that was possible at the moment. "Let's not argue, not now." She shook her head, knowing that had done too much of that lately. She just wanted to be like they were, she wanted to remember why they worked so well and why they were so close.

"I will always care for you Bataar, I will find a way to make this work somehow. We never know until it happens so, lets take it one day at a time." She nodded tilting her head, she did not know what he was thinking, he was always so hard to read but she could sense sadness. She knew he cared for her and that meant more than she could say. However she did not know that the thought of her leaving would affect him this much, this morning she was not even sure if he liked her.

She forced a small smile onto her face and stepped closer to him, finally letting go of his hand. "This whole topic is a little too doom and gloom for my tastes." The conduit nodded before resting her hands on his shoulders, making sure to make eye contact. She wanted him to hear her, she wanted him to understand. "Afterall, nothing has ever stopped me from getting to you before. I can still sneak out, as often as I can, so much so you will be sick of me." She was going to make this work, she had to.

She lifted her hand and rested it on the side of his face, it was going to be okay. At least she hoped it was, she did not want to spend this month in such a sombre mood, and she knew he did not want that either.

Bataar knew that, whatever the case, Sara was right. They shouldn't be arguing at this point in time-- not when they had so little time to make up after the fact. The man frowned, trying his best not to think too deeply about the current situation. It was bizarre, to be sure, and there was no doubt in his mind that he ought to be avoiding the soul conduit at all costs. All the same, there was something keeping him here. It was impossible to describe, or to name, but he didn't think he'd be able to find it in himself to stay away from the other Lunarian for long stretches of time. It just didn't sound right.

He felt himself flushing as Sara spoke, and tried to ignore many of the words. This was, it seemed, a highly ineffective sort of a process. The lack of simplicity was enough to grate hopelessly upon the man, and he made as much known as he gnawed on his lip, trying to decide upon the best response. "Well then, we'll leave this behind for now," he muttered, striding away uneasily after Sara had brushed his face with her hand.

Things still weren't going to be easy for either of them, especially now that he knew Sarangerel was going to become a priest. They could try to be positive, but the truth was that there were also a lot of things to be pessimistic about. They'd have to be careful from now on.
