With the effects of JOY Number 5 finally abating, the emotional impact of the last few day's events finally managed to properly play with his heartstrings. He'd stowed away his gingerbread man costume, folded up in the very back of his closet together with a certain coat that bore the symbol of a tree. And while the rest of his clothing was relatively the same... there was a new addition to his uniform.

One he couldn't bring himself to completely don. The coat was wrapped around his waist, in a fashion similar to a certain female Deather's. Not that he was copying her but it was the closest compromise he could come up with. He wasn't technically wearing the coat but it was still on his person so he wasn't completely going against the dress-code. But whenever his gaze fell upon the offending garment, his mouth pulled into a bitter scowl and teal eyes glared daggers at the symbol embroidered near the bottom.

No, Before was not a happy camper. Not a happy camper indeed, despite Tori and Clarice's assurances that there was nothing wrong with being transferred to the Mist division. Except the teal-eyed brunette was feeling petty and spiteful, coupled with the odd "holiday withdrawal" he was feeling. Which was really weird given how he didn't even like Christmas to begin with. Maybe that was why he had the hem of his Intermediate Trainee coat bunched in his gloved hand. And maybe that was why when he crossed paths with Candace he chose not to give into his survival instincts to GTFO and RUN. Instead, he remembered what Clarice told him during his promotion, and simply stared at the dark-skinned Misty.

Despite the formula beginning to leave her system Candace was still in an exceptionally good mood. Christmas was over but it was a new year. A new year for things to happen. She was going to leave the s**t from the last few months behind her, the negative things anyway; Candace wouldn't abandon the positive for anything. Positives? Jerry, Jerry, Harrison, Jerry, Aria, being a Mist hunter, Jerry, Atropos, Atropos, H, being a Mist hunter, Aria, Atropos, Jerry, Aria, Mist hunters.

In that order.

But then there were things she wished she could leave behind.

...Like Before.

Candace, who had been smiling, was now looking very unimpressed as she gazed upon the young man staring right at her. The hell was his problem now? "What now, Befo--" She stopped to stare at the emblem on the coat wrapped around his waist. What the hell was that? Frowning, Candace walked up to the other trainee and stepped around him to see the emblem on the coat was not a tree. Why the ******** did he have mist on his coat?

"...Whose coat did you steal? That's not even cool, Before. If you need a new coat just ask the quartermaster." Get the ******** out of her division's coat.

Oh that candlejacking fleshie did NOT just accuse you of being a lowly thief! Vanna growled, the painted face on the bottlecap-pin suddenly twisted into a fierce frown that bared teeth.

If Candace expected Before to stammer and cower and apologize she ought to come back some other time when his self-pity outweighed his resentment. Right now, the former Lifer was much too full of bitter angst to take her s**t-talking. He mirrored the expression on the bottlecap-pin, one corner of his mouth curling into a snarl as teal eyes narrowed angrily. "You know what else ain't cool? Accusing someone of theft," he sneered, meeting her gaze and purposely releasing his hold on the coat's hem.

Yeah, let the Intermediate Trainee coat openly display the Mist symbol embroidered on it. He rather wanted to piss Candace off. On purpose this time. Without the scythe (or her booterangs) and being outside the training grounds, Before just now realized he was the same height as Candace. Somehow that helped him be less intimidated and reminded him to take Clarice's words to heart. With a condescending shake of his head, he scoffed "But hey, I'm not surprised you lack any semblance of common decency. After all, throwing around baseless accusations about my honestly is almost like attacking me from outta nowhere and nearly killing me in the process." He folded his arms across his chest, one hand juuuuuuust below his desummoned weapon in case things escalated to violence.

Clarice did say she had to knock Candace around to work out their issues. And after his last interaction with the dark-skinned Misty, could anyone blame him for assuming she was liable to just attack? Especially when he continued, "Maybe you should have. That way we wouldn't be stuck in the same division."

Eight
Awwww! Did she make him mad? How cute. The amusement was back, crossing her arms across her chest and cocking her head. Oh? Ohhh? He was going to use improper grammar on her? Oh, this was precious. "What is not cool? Oh, I can assure you I wouldn't accuse theft if I didn't have good reason for it, Mister Life Hunter." He was even meeting her gaze! How brave of him! She held eye contact with the boy but, unlike Before, looked the picture of nonplussed. She was cool and calm albeit fairly amused. He wasn't pissing her off, oh no she wasn't angry she was merely curious now as to why he was so angry she as calling him a thief. Wasn't he one? He wasn't a Mist hunter, and that was not Aria's coat, nor was it Lance's; it also wasn't Cass', she had no sleeves on her coat. By process of elimination it was either a mist hunter she had never met...or it was his.

There was no way it was his. None.

His next words made her eyebrow twitch in faint annoyance. Excuse me? She snarled in her own head, her fingers clenching briefly before they relaxed. Instead, her eyes widened and she put on a look of dismay that would make a scandalized classic movie actress tear up with pride, one hand against her cheek and the other against her chest. "Goodness me! You sure did tell me what for! Funny how that isn't how I remembered things going, and boy howdy do I ever feel bad for yet another person who doesn't know the entire story upset! But hey, I'm not surprised you lack any semblance of intelligence. After all, it's only normal to instantly assume a person is always how they are when they're under a negative outside influence. How ever will I live with myself?" She paused, seemed to consider her own question and then finally glared.

"Oh right, I learn from my ******** mistake and move on with my life."

Idiot.

Candace was about to just walk away and find something to cheer her up now that Before's presence had killed her buzz until he said something that ruined her day even more. Candace merely stared, her expression unreadable until she started laughing a little too hard. "OH MAN! Ahaha! You really had me going for a second there! Maybe I was wrong! You do have a sense of humor! HAHA!"
PostPosted: Mon Jan 02, 2012 4:53 am

That tone of condescension? Unfortunately at this point in his life, Before has heard it far too many times for it to even register. Maybe if she was someone who mattered it might have. But as it was, Candace was just a necessary evil in his life. He'd seen enough of her kind back in High School, both in person an on screen. Yes, he watched "Mean Girls" but he never once was under the delusion he'd ever get the satisfaction of giving people like her their comeuppance. Before has accepted his lot in life. So rather than show any additional anger at the patronizing tone, Before simply continued to stare back, "I'd ask what you considered what a "good reason" was but there ain't a way to reason with prejudice." Before was capable of proper grammar. He really was. But he reserved proper grammar for proper people and Candace was far from what he would consider as proper.

"Even if you were "under the influence"," he began, going so far as to use air quotes, because he pretty much considered that a shitty-a** excuse, "How can you be sure your memory was accurate? Besides, being "under the influence" doesn't absolve you of responsibility nor does it change that fact that you went and almost killed me. Regardless of division, pretty sure we're not supposed to be killing each other." he frowned.

Teal eyes did blink at her declaring how she was moving on with her life. Jesus ******** Christ this woman should be institutionalized if she could shrug off nearly killing someone so easily. He shuddered, rubbing his arms as if he'd never feel clean again. "Oh my God, you're a ******** sociopath. Shrugging off almost killing someone and trivializing it like it was just a slap on the wrist? Holy ******** s**t, how many people have you killed before you came to the Island? You know what, forget I asked that. I'm just going to go beg Dr. H to transfer me to any OTHER division but Mist. Or to take me back. If I die, I'd rather it be by the hands of those freaks and not a monster pretending to be human." The look he was giving her as he said this? Complete and utter disgust and revulsion, the exact sort of look Caelius gave the Halloweeners during that mission against the fake Aria.

Oh.

Oh <********> no. He did not just take a huge mistake she took very seriously and twist it on her. Candace's eyes were wide and her jaw clenched tightly, her lips setting in a hard line as she pursed them in an attempt not to scream. How dare he. How. Dare. He. How dare he! He had no ******** idea how badly she ******** up. He had no idea! How dare he! Her hands balled up into tightly clenched fists to the point where the strain on her fingers was painful, and her chest felt tight. Her eyes were burning. Why were her eyes burning? Oh ******** no, she was not crying in front of this moron.

Strangely enough it wasn't the first time she had been called a sociopath, nor did she expect it to be the last, and quite frankly she wouldn't disagree with it; Candace did show traits of one and she was well aware of it, but she didn't really care enough. It was just how she was. But it was the rest that bothered her. Shrug off? He really thought she just shrugged it off? He thought she got a slap on the wrist? Oh this ******** kid. This. ********. Kid. How dare he assume she got no form of punishment, suffered no consequences. It was when he accused her of killing people before the island a few tears that she'd been fighting off managed to fall down her cheeks. She'd kill him. That's it. She'd just put him out of his ******** misery and kill him. Candace, don't. He isn't worth i--

SLAP

Candace was done. She was so done with his s**t. When he had called her a monster pretending to be a human that had been her final straw. The woman had immediately reached out and slapped him clear and hard across the face, nearly on the verge of hyperventilating and just not even caring if she cried in front of this a*****e anymore. He had gone too far. She was not a monster. She wasn't. She just...no. She was not a monster.

"How DARE you!" She cried, looking ready to hit him again. "What the hell did I just say about not knowing the entire story? You don't know anything! How ******** DARE you take something I have admitted to, been punished severely for, still suffer the consequences for and trivialize it. How. ********. Dare you. You're a child. An immature, spoiled, bratty child." She grabbed him by the collar of his shirt. "If you're a Mist now be damn proud of it. You have a leader that isn't out to kill you, or humiliate you, or make your life miserable. You have a division that you should be proud to be a part of." She released him and shoved him away, eyes narrowed as she rubbed at her face in a futile attempt to wipe away her tears. That idiot.

"If you're going to assume things like that about me, at least learn even a little of the story before you say s**t you don't know." She sniffed, her shoulders shaking as she fought back the urge to just collapse into pitiful sobbing. No. He wasn't worth it. "But you're right. You should be transferred back. Personally I don't think you can handle this division; it's too demanding and a lot of hard work."

There was no look of smug satisfaction on the young man's face when it became apparent he'd struck a nerve. More on the fact he wasn't sure what exactly it was that he said that actually got her so upset. Because, uh, he was pretty sure that she was a ******** monster. To him at least. This was... what? The third, fourth instance they ever spent "together" (in the loosest sense of the word) since waking all these months and not once has she shown herself to be anything but?

The former Lifer was about ready to GTFO when-

SLAP

SUMMON ME! SUMMON ME RIGHT NOW!!! I DEMAND RETRIBUTION!!!!!! Vanna's roar rang in Before's mind, about the same volume as the ringing in his ears from the slap.

The good thing about having been bullied for most of his school life? You got used to being the punching bag. Sure it always hurt (you never really do get used to the actual pain) but as long as there were no bladed objects or weapons besides fists, feet, and teeth (no, please no teeth, he doesn't need rabies shots on top of everything) Before would take the beating in stride.
And that's when Candace went on her tirade. Somehow, after being chewed out by Caelius, someone on equal footing (and height) doing the same just didn't have the "OMG I'M GOING TO DIEEEEEE!!!!" feel to it. "Admitted you made a mistake? When? How? I don't recall ever receiving an apology." he scoffed, rubbing the bright red impression she left on his cheek. Had Candace been someone he liked, or at least was on neutral standing with, he would have been apologizing the instant she looked the tiniest bit upset. But because she was Candace, and because he remembered how much she didn't like it when he apologized, he refrained. "Unless the thing you're really sorry for isn't the fact you went and willingly tried to hack me to pieces." Obviously he was referring to that beat-down pretending to be a spar.

When she grabbed him, the former Lifer didn't resist. And just stared at her as she snarled about Divisions and how awesome Mist was. How awesome could it be with her in it? But she shoved him back before he had the chance to make that remark. Yeah, Before's petty side had reared its ugly head and wasn't going anywhere. It didn't help that Vanna was wholeheartedly egging him on.

But somehow the sight of Candace visibly trying to maintain her composure wasn't as satisfying as Before thought it would be. "Why the ******** would I even go near you after what you did to me? And even if I had, would you have told me s**t?" he demanded. They weren't friends. They weren't on good terms. He really didn't see why the hell he would willingly place himself anywhere within her vicinity. "But since you just keep bringing up how I don't know the whole story, then ******** tell me. Right now."

Maybe it was because it just wasn't in Before's nature to be so antagonistic (and this was about as extreme as he got) that he refrained from adding anymore snide jabs at her.

Eight
When did he receive an apology? He thought he alone was the mistake? Candace snarled. "You selfish twit. It's not all about you." She had apologized to everyone she had felt needed apologizing to. She'd been moving past this, she'd been happy, she'd been having a good time. Hell, Jordan got her a present for Christmas! A pretty silk scarf! And Jerry! Jerry loved her! If that wasn't progress then what was it? Robert hadn't even been rude to her last time they were in the same vicinity. But seriously? This child of a boy was claiming he along was her mistake?

Candace's breathing was short and heavy, her fists clenched and her eyes still brimming with tears she was trying so hard to fight back. She rubbed her lips together, a habit that came out as she grew increasingly more flustered. Atropos was making soft shushing sounds in her head in an effort to keep her calm, or at least sane if nothing else. It was working for the most part. Candace was still trembling all over, sniffing and taking in a deep, slow breath. Calm. Calm. Find your center. Come on, stay cool. It's okay. He's just an idiot. It's okay! It's...no. No, it wasn't okay. "If you had been an adult and asked instead of going 'oh boo hoo Candace and I had a spar that was unevenly matched obviously her intention was to kill me ohhhhh woe is me what a world!' then yes, I would have told you exactly what you wanted." Dumbass.

Oh. He wanted to know, did he? Candace laughed, an unhappy one but a laugh nonetheless, and ruffled her own hair. "Have you ever held another hunter's weapon, Before? Circe, specifically? Once upon a time there was this test. And in this test a group of us were sent to a room. Were you in that room? Caelius was. He had Circe, and 'Harry Potter' gave a very uplifting speech that convinced us to name him the traitor and wreck his own game. So we killed his golem..or something...with his own scythe." Candace frowned. "Holding Circe is like a drug. You get this rush of power and you just...all you want is more, more, more. You feel invincible, like there's nothing in the world that can bring you down. It's the most...amazing feeling in the world. It's incredible, it's almost indescribable. It's just...it doesn't last forever. I wanted it. I wanted to feel that again after I had been feeling so depressed about how I was performing...and Caelius gave me permission to take Circe out for a walk." She narrowed her eyes at Before and held up one hand, beginning to count off on her fingers. "Jordan, you, Ariane, Harrison and Jerry. Do you seriously ******** think I was out to get you? You seem to have it in your head that I'm this terrible person who kills people for fun. But you have no idea how humiliated I was when I came to my senses. The ******** Life division watched me get down on my goddamn knees and beg Caelius for his help only to be dismissed. Even Doctor H knew, Clarice knew. I made a mistake; I'm human, and yet you seem so quick to deem me some senseless homicidal monster when you don't even know me. Hell, do you even know my last name? Do you even know my favorite color? Things I like to do? My age? Hobbies? You don't know s**t, so stop pretending you have me all figured out." Her hand dropped again to clench into a tight fist at her side.

"Like I said. I was punished, I suffered so many consequences, and I moved the ******** on with my life."

Huni Pi
Before was looking less dead-pan and more disgusted at Candace. "Go up to ASK you? After what you did to me? Oh my ******** God, news flash: When something hurts you that badly you ain't gonna put yourself in a situation it can hurt you again. Thought that was, iunno, common sense. Or am I assuming it's not common sense for you? And that so-called "spar"? Not a spar when both parties aren't willing. That's called ambushing someone or being a ******** bully~" he declared in sing-song through grit teeth. "And I only fought back because you weren't going to let up and because I really didn't wanna die by a fellow Trainee's hands."

And then came Candace's explanation. Which Before continued to listen to and continued to look unimpressed. Again, anyone else? Before would have totally sympathized and apologized for his words and actions and not understanding. But Candace hadn't left a very good impression on him and the terror she'd instilled in him had festered. Together with the resentment from his recent forced transfer from a Division he was ******** in love with had warped into this unreasonable and vile attitude. The withdrawal symptoms from JOY Number 5 wasn't helping matters either.

Vanna isn't sure if she likes this side of Before. You are acting unusually hostile, silly Before... even to this fleshie.

The former Lifer ignored his partner.

"So let me get this straight. You knew Circe had that effect on you. You knew you wouldn't be in your usual state of mind. You knew all these things and decided to take her for a walk anyway? And by your admission, resulted in you attacking a whole BUNCH of people because of it." he recounted, then muttered to himself "My God, it's like listening to a drunk driver tell me how much hooch they drank and proceed to explain why I shouldn't be upset they almost ran me over on the sidewalk because they ALSO almost ran over these OTHER people."

He drew a breath, less because he was about to make some snippy comeback and more because... holy run-on sentences Batman! "Whatever judgment I've made of you? Totes based on the (thankfully) few times we've interacted. You were snide to me, dismissive of me, patronizing of me, took ******** pleasure that you were beating the crap outta me, I don't see how knowing whether or not you're allergic to shellfish or peanuts has anything to do with how you've been treating me~" Before, please stop it with the run-on sentences. You don't have the lung capacity for it. "But hey, you said you were punished and suffered for it and are "moving on" so grats on that. Guess I never expected you to pull a Mel Gibson," he casually shrugged.

Before, stop prodding the angry bear. That's your arm not a stick.

Eight
Candace pulled at her own hair. "Oh. My. GOD! You are the most narrow-minded, deaf imbecile I have ever met! The ******** is your problem?! Do you not know the meaning of the word 'mistake'?! Should I have bought you a dictionary for Christmas? Do you want to know why I treated you the way I do? Because of this! This right here! You complain, you whine, you're ********...! I just...your very presence makes me want to punch you in the face!" How old was this guy?! Twelve?! She had to grip her scarf to keep from doing exactly what she'd just said.

"Everyone I encountered that day agreed willingly to their fight! I did not just run up to people and attack them without warning! Do you think you're better than me, little boy? Your holier than thou prejudice attitude right now is annoying as hell. How can anyone stand to even..! ********! It's like trying to reason with a five-year-old! That's it." Candace had had enough, she was done. No more. No ******** more. She grabbed Before by his sleeve and turned on her heel, headed straight for the life laboratories where H was hopefully in his office. She was going to try her damn hardest to make him take this idiot back.

Huni Pi
"Not whining, you'll know when I'm whining. I am simply just not letting you live it down. There's a difference," he hissed, folding his arms across his chest. "And FYI, I've made enough mistakes to know what they are and what you do after. I own up to them and apologize to those involved. All you're saying is that your ONLY mistake was taking Circe and that you DON'T consider how you almost slaughtered me as part of it. Oh but that's riiiiiiiiiiiiiight, everyone agreed to the fight. Funny, I don't remember ever saying "Sure okay, beat me up, Candace!" to you in the Gym. New flash, silence is NOT ******** consent! Those other people you "sparred" with may have agreed but I didn't. And ******** yeah I think I'm better than you. I didn't borrow a Division Leader's weapon FULLY KNOWING it would mess my head up. I don't go around assuming someone stole something right off the bat. And I don't go around engaging people in fights, I mean "spars", with someone who doesn't want to!" he growled.

When she grabbed him and began to drag him along, that was when Before resisted. Digging his heels in and even going so far as trying to slam his foot against the back of her knee while trying to pry her hand off. "No! Stop! Let go! I don't consent to this! That any clearer? You want me to put this in ******** writing?"

"Jesus christ, shut up. We're going to see H." Candace growled, dragging Before along whether he liked it or not. When he dug his heels against the floor she gave his arm a firm jerk, enough to knock him off his heels and pull him forward to stumble along. Idiot. The kick had her wincing and stumbling, giving him another jerk forward. "Quit it." She finally hissed, stopping once they were down the hall from H's office. She looked almost panicked. No, going there enraged would not help her case; yelling at H and crying and sobbing and causing a scene would not make things better. Candace needed to calm down. And so she let go of Before to quickly rub at her face as thoroughly as she could. No more tears. Stop that. None of that. A few deep, shuddering breathes in an effort to regain control of her own breathing. She had to calm down. ********, her makeup was running a little. No time to fix it. Damnit. She smoothed her hair down, straightened out her clothes and then shot a glare at Before.

Candace grabbed whatever she could, apparently the chest of his shirt would do the trick. She didn't care if he looked neat and orderly in front of H, she was being selfish and wanting to keep some dignity in front of the man.

She was still working on regaining her composure when she knocked on the frame of the door, sniffing and wiping at her smudged and nearly running eye makeup to try and fix it as she released Before just before stepping into the office. "Ah, hey. Doctor~? Do you have a minute?" A not-so-subtle glare was shot back in Before's direction again before she stepped in further.

The doctor's initial response was a slow, lazy smile at Candace's entrancem but it gained a distinctly cruel edge as the struggling form of one Milton Bates became readily apparent. "Ah, but of course I have a moment for you two," his voice was low and drawling, as he gestured for them to take a seat. "It must be quite the situation, to bring you both here." Despite his words, his smile was both knowing and amused.

The initial smile had her blushing and her teeth pressing into her lip, swallowing hard and clearing her throat. No. Don't think about him right now. He wanted it but...no. Not right now. Later, definitely later. "..You were expecting this." It wasn't a question. Despite her new ah..'loyalty' to the doctor she was still very aware of what a cruel man he was. She couldn't help but smirk as he wordlessly offered them seats. Heh. She had to forced herself to purse her lips and hide her amusement. "You know where I would prefer to sit." Candace said in a quiet voice for the doctor as she remained standing, crossing her arms across her chest. "Oh yes. Quite the situation.." Lavender eyes darted to the prejudiced, selfish, immature, bumbling fool before she frowned again and turned her gaze to H again, looking absolutely heartbroken.

"He won't let go of a silly grudge, H." She complained, making a move like she was going to go to him and drape on the man but thinking better of it. Instead she put her hands on the edge of his desk and leaned in close. "Wasn't he doing fine in Life? He seemed happy! Why, I even recall he once yelled out YAY LIFE! in the middle of a mission briefing. How could you possibly transfer out someone who's clearly devoted to your division?" Candace pouted her lips and whined a little, but not because of her words. Could she tell Before to leave? Please? Now that she was here all she wanted to do was..ugh! No! Stop that! Gripping the edge of the desk, Candace sighed. Damnit. She couldn't stay angry at him knowing what he wanted to do to her and what he could very well be doing if Before wasn't here. Her eyes darted toward him again and narrowed. Get out, Before. Just go. Forget she even said anything.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 04, 2012 6:49 am

Sure he got a kick in and sure he stumbled and sure they were heading to see H but Before was testy and angry and would really rather he did not have make up on his shirt! Fuuuuuuuuuuck, laundry day was going to be hell. He already had a hard time getting rid of the bloodstains from that slaughter session and now he had to get rid of her ******** make up? What did he ever do to H to deserve this?

His disposition did not improve when he was dragged into the office of the Life Division's Leader. Had he still been in Life, Before would have obediently planted his a** down where H gestured. But now that he was a Misty, he declined and explained, "I'm good here, near the door. You know. In case someone makes another mistake and borrows a Leader's weapon."

Oh Candace was so right in him being unable to let go of a grudge. Thankfully, he was too focused on his righteous indignation that all the innuendo Candace was making went right over his head.

"It ain't my place to question why you wanna get rid of me, Doc, I'm sure I prolly ******** up something real bad without knowing it. So I'mma apologize for it. 'Cuz, y'know, that's what decent people who were raised proper do after making a mistake. Ain't like having mauve be your favorite color mean you you don't need manners." If Candace was going to trivialize what she did to him and continue to think attacking him wasn't wrong, then he doesn't give a flying ******** about the female a*****e.

"Can I at least ask why you gotta send me to Mist?" his voice was quiet, teal eyes cold and devoid of the usual zest and eagerness. Was he broken? Was he bereft of spirit? Nah, that was just the withdrawal symptoms + broken faith and trust in the Life Leader + general acceptance that nothing ever went his way taking its proper spot in Before's consciousness.

With each blatant mockery Candace bristled and gripped the desk tighter, looking more and more like a wild cat about to leap at Before's face if she let go of the table. Or if he didn't shut the hell up. "The good doctor's weapon ******** this." She hissed under her breath. "Why borrow Circe or Marie when I can just summon my own weapon." Candace said tersely, planting her feet firmly on the floor to keep herself from moving from that spot. Atropos' rings glowed a bright light and Candace released the desk only to take them off and gently push them aside to sit on the desk away from her; if she wasn't wearing Atropos she wouldn't be tempted to summon her and cut his head off.

He continued on and she grit her teeth, bowing her head and taking a few long, calming breaths. Keep your head. Keep calm. Don't give in to the strong urge to shut him up. Don't do it. It's okay.

"Yes, doctor. Why Mist? Why not something more fitting for him like death?" She didn't mean the division anymore. Candace kept her voice low though it shook as she tried to keep her cool, not wanting to lose it in front of someone whose affections she would like to keep for as long as possible.

"Ah my dear, I am full of expectations you know," he murmured, "But some of them will sadly have to wait so I can deal with this ahh...personal drama you seem fit to bring to me, hm?" Listening to her reasons, and then the boy's the doctor...picked up a pencil and simply continued what he was doing, nodding along every once in awhile to indicate that yes he understood what was being said, and oh such an interesting point.

When it seemed like they were finished he raised his hand to scratch lightly at his and take a moment to enjoy his current view. Candace keeping all that lovely anger and violent energy just barely in check, and the muppety young Milton having lost all that happy, eager energy to something other than nightmare creatures. His answer was typical, and when he spoke it was slowly as if to a pair of slightly stupid children, "I did it because I wanted to."

Leaning back in his chair, the doctor continued, "Was there anything else?"

Before quirked a brow when he heard Candace mention another name. He knew Circe was Caelius' partner so that must mean Marie was H's. Huh, the fact that she knew the Life Division Leader's weapon's name made him inch towards the door just a teensy bit more. That and she took of her rings. What? Was she planning on using just her bare fists? Wouldn't keeping the rings on be more destructive? Or did she just not want his blood on her prettiful jewelry? Wasn't vanity one of the signs of sociopaths? Or was that narcissism?

The former Lifer held his silence and continued to stare dead-pan at H, teal eyes widening ever so slightly. Clarice had told him it was H's decision but. Really? For something as simple as that? So it wasn't his performance or behavior?

But instead of these questions, he asked, "Am I allowed to transfer back? Or out of Mist at the very least, Doc?"

"You're a leader, shouldn't I be able to bring issues to you?" Candace retorted, watching as he just..picked up his pencil and kept writing. It actually reminded her of one of her college professors who had simply ignored her when she cried injustice over a particular mark they had given her on an assignment. It...it drove her insane with annoyance but...but H. It made her want to go 'no no pay attention to me look I'm here pay attention to me H please hi hi hi I'm here'.

Candace maintained eye contact with the man when he finally looked away from his work to give them his attention. Her eyes widened when he finally gave his answer. Because...what? "...Are you.." She gave a quiet chuckle that eventually grew into a laugh, pushing away from the desk and rubbing at her face. Ugh! That a**! "You are so...yes, why Mist? I..I can't work with him, H. I really can't. He's unreasonable!" She stepped around the desk and purposely fell to her knees, pouting up at the man and folding her arms on the arm of his chair. "Do you know what he called me? He called me a monster, H." A quick glance was cast toward one of his hands. No. Don't hold it. Holding it will lead to kissing it, and kissing it will lead to wanting it in places it shouldn't be in with Before around. "You know I'm not a monster." They had established H was the monster here; he had even admitted to it himself...privately to her.

Anything else? "...Nothing that can be discussed with company around." Candace murmured, resting her head on her arms and looking very unhappy.

"Should you become a Hunter, Milton, a real one, then the question will come up again. But before you set your little heart on anything, I'd like for you to think on exactly why you want back and why I should take you. This isn't some..." he waved his hand in the air, "...high school sports team, where loyalty is expected simply out of the happenstance of proximity, understand?"

He turned the woman on her knees with a mournful sigh, "But I do agree you are indeed a monstrous and terrible woman," he leaned down close and murmured softly, "...why ever would you waste this particular position, lovely as it is, on such a decidedly insignificant situation?" His lips formed a bit of a pout, and he pushed her hair behind her ear, the better to see her expression. Really such a waste, he sat up and sighed again, "The decision isn't going to be reversed, and I've never felt the need to justify myself to anybody, let alone a pair of bickering trainees. You will, however, be glad to hear that I won't be demoting either of you for this. Provided, of course, that you both cease your whining and proceed to deal with it. Are we clear?"

Before let H's words sink in before he nodded, suddenly standing ramrod straight. By god he is going to prove he should never have been transferred out of Life! He almost went and made a salute except Candace got down on her knees beside H. Suddenly Before felt like he was in the beginnings of a really bad amateur porno. And that he had the unfortunate role of fluffer. He looked visibly uncomfortable at the current situation and no amount of withdrawal symptoms can ever make him not want to GTFO at that very instant. "Sorry to be a bother, Doc. Ain't my choice to be here. Gonna go be elsewhere now, Doc." And Before proceeded to do just that. Then he proceeded to want for brain bleach so he could scrub away the expression on both Candace and H's face as they set up the scene.
