This time of year one always started to think about being a mates and families. Cranberry loved to see the kits playing in the crisp grass and the snow that fell from time to time in the grass lands. The moss green and bright red female made her from her home in the Haven woods to the grass lands where most creatures came to meet each other and play. Her soft cherry eyes smiled as she headed into the fields looking around. Normally she came here hoping to one day find a mate and have kits of her own but today she was just wanting to enjoy the cool weather and a game or two with any young kit that might be around. Little did she think that if she was not searching for something she might very well find it?

This crisp winter day saw Morpheus stirring from an afternoon nap. Even more than most fire cats, this lazy male loved nothing more than sleep. If not for the fact that one must sometimes be awake to live, he might very well spend his entire existence in the gentle clasp of dreams.
This was not to say that he had anything against being awake, or against other cats, or the world in general. He simply had his preferences, and they ran toward sloth. Truth be told, he quite enjoyed company when he was awake, though he was just as content to watch the clouds roll by, or count the stars.
But that was neither here nor there.
What had awoken him was the distinct sense that he was not alone. Normally, not even this would stir him from his slumber, however, he would later swear that there was something different about this encounter. Of course, it did not hurt that he had been sleeping for the past twelve hours and was starting to get hungry...
As it stood, he slowly uncurled and stretched languorously before removing himself from the sun-warmed rock and surveying the area.

It seemed that maybe it was a bit too early in the day for the kits to be out but a movement caught Cranberry's attention and her cherry eyes were drawn to a large boulder where a metallic blue tail disappear into the tall grass. Right away the female lowered her body into the grass and started to stalk forward.
Clearly the length of the tail proved that it was not a kit so a bit more of an adult pounce greeting should be fine. She smiled her ears perked forward as she drew nearer. The green of her body helped to hide her as she moved closer. She caught the scent of a male just as she pulled her back legs under her and leapt around the boulder with a soft laugh.

A faint rustle sounded just before Morpheus found himself unceremoniously pinned to the ground by a spunky little female. He blinked at her incredulously, but decided that escaping would require too much effort. He studied her from the ground and found her to be a pleasant sight to behold, with a striking coat and mischief in her eyes.
"Good morning," he said at last, as though there were nothing at all odd about the situation. "I'm sure it is a pleasure to meet you, but would you mind letting me up? There's a stone digging into my back and it is quite uncomfortable."

The female found her self a bit shocked that the male she had pinned one, rather cute, and two had not rolled her off. She had almost laid herself down on him but remembered her place and got off. "Um....good morning. I am sorry about the rock..." She tilted her head a bit to go and try to look at where the rock could be . She wanted to make sure he was alright.

He flopped indecorously onto his side and twisted around a bit to rid himself of the sensation of stone digging into muscle. Soon enough, he settled himself, none the worse for wear, and took to studying the female again.
"Think nothing of it," he dismissed. It was already in the past. Such a triviality hardly mattered now. The cat before him, however, was quite worthy of his attention...and he had only just met her.
"What brings you to the grasslands?" Was there nothing to keep her home? Or did she just need a little time away?

She sat back on her haunches to watch him wriggle around in front of her. He seemed rather laid back and she liked how even when his eyes were open he seemed so tired and relaxed. She coiled her tail about her legs and sat rather prim and proper as he questioned her.
She flicked her tail behind her again and laid herself down in the crisp grass next to him, "Oh well what most come to the grass lands for. I was tried of spending my day alone. So I though I would see who else was around the grasslands today. I guess your the lucky one I found." She smiled at the large male and nods, "What about you?"

Ah, so it was that she had nothing to keep her there. He could not help but notice how regal she looked, sitting there like a queen. But that was beside the point. She had asked him a question.
"I go where the sun takes me," he said as though that were explanation enough, but he continued after a pause. "However, I do sometimes find myself bored in solitude, so I decided here was as good a place as any to find company."

If she could have read his thoughts she would have laughed so hard at being compared to a queen. She just turned to smile at him, "That is a good way to live. But it must get tiring moving your lamp around so often. But if your not having to move someone else as well then I guess it is not too bad."
She gave a nod and sat back up and flicking her tail across the grass and curled around just one of her front paws. "Well then you came to the prefect place. The grasslands are the second best place to find any person you could be looking for. Playmates, kits, rivals...mates you name it." She smiled down at him before look up over the grass, "Just like I found you and your not a kit. I just hope you wont be a rival." she said softly.

Now that he thought about it, perhaps there was more than one reason that he slept so often, lugging his lamp around like that...
But that was neither here nor there.
"Only second best? I think it could be more than that," he mused. "And I cannot imagine a future where we could be rivals."
Though, of course, he did not mention what he could imagine them being in the future. Neither did he mention the fact that there was only one thing he could ever be stirred to have a rival for...and that was currently a moot point. He had no one he was courting, as of yet.
"And I am certainly not a kit. Do you like them very much?"

She smiled at him warmly, "Well yes the lake side is best place...well I guess if your looking for a mate it is one of the better places." she laughed and nods, "I am very glad to hear we will not be rivals. I would not like to be a rival to such a big male."
He was rather large compared to her and his paws were at least two times the size of hers. She would have given a heck of a run for his money if they had started to fight but she was sure he would have beaten her. But she shook her head lightly. There was no need to think about them fighting after all he seemed very nice.
"Oh yes I love kits. They are so full of energy and everything is amazing and new to many of them. But I have no kits of my own. I am just glad most parents don't find a female wanting to play with kits as too much of a threat." She laughed, "What about you mister...Oh my I just remember I have not introduced myself have I?" She smiled happily at him again, she seemed very at ease with him and smiles came so easily to her face, "My name is Cranberry." She looked down a bit at her name. It was a bit odd to be named after food, but why not cranberries were tart and sweet and so useful.

"It's a pleasure. I am Morpheus," he said, returning both the courtesy and the smile. "As for kits, I like them well enough, though they certainly have more energy than I." Honestly, lazy as he was, he had no idea what he would do with kits of his own, though he found that he liked the thought of having them someday.
Ah. But he would need a mate first, so that might be a while coming...or perhaps not so very long, he mused, seeing Cranberry with a new light of potential. Her sudden shyness was most endearing. Perhaps he would court her? Though, perhaps he ought to get to know her a little better before making such a decision. Of course, if it came to that, he doubted logic would have anything to do with it. Matters of the heart rarely did.

Cranberry looked back up at him. Morpheus fit the large male. A strong name for a strong male, she mused. "Well you just need to be finding yourself a nice mate with lots of energy for your kits. That way you wont have to worry about their youthful energy draining yours." She gave a nod and stretched a bit. "But then again if your not the one mate sort of male you could get yourself lots of females to raise and take care of the kits and you can visit them when you have energy to play." She playfully stuck her tongue out at him and gave a wink.
She could seem someone as big and strong as he seemed to be with a hold pack of females. But not everyone was the type to need more than one mate. She wondered what type he was. Based on her first impression of him she would not being being one of his mates.
However now standing she looked slightly down on him, "Well sense it is still early in the day would you like to go find some food with me Morpheus?"

"I've no idea what I would do with a whole pack of females," he said drily. "No. If I ever mate, it would be to one female."
Then, she made her invitation. Ah. Food. He was reminded of what had awoken him in the first place.
"I am quite hungry," he admitted as he rose to his feet, his size making him tower above her for the first time during their encounter. He smiled down at her. "Do you have any suggestions? I'm afraid I rarely visit this area."

Cranberry could not contain a look of shocked joy at the fact that he would be a one female type of male. It made sense though to mate only one. More so if they were strong and fit and both could raise the young. She smiled and gave a nod.
She then looked around again, "Well that depends, are you more of a fruit or meat eater?" she would not mind if he liked either she could find food both ways. When she turned to see him standing she felt her colored cheeks darken a bit. he was far larger that she had first thought. She was amazed that she would have jumped on something so large. It was like asking for trouble. Though maybe with him it would be a good sort of trouble.
"Well then I guess I am very glad to have come here today. Or I might never have found you." she giggled up at him.
