This is a private roleplay between Bataar [Kayakurai] and Yue Lao [Face Your Demons].

Setting:
The river.

It was so pleasant out that Yue Lao was surprised she had even dragged herself down to the river; she could have spent her time just about anywhere lazing about. Now that she lived so close to the ocean, she could have just stayed at home, really-- but she wanted to get out, and the ocean creatures weirded her out sometimes. So she was at the river, with a fishing rod, some bait, and her monkey. He seemed to be sunbathing in the grass, while Yue Lao fished.

Or rather, attempted to. The fighter was not at all good at this, and had, in fact, never successfully fished in her life. She had just about thrown the bait kit into the water in frustration. "Maybe they'll get too fat to escape," she mumbled, stretching herself out. She stood up to take a break between failed fishing attempts, when she thought she heard something in the trees; trying to reach for her meteor hammer, she slipped on a rock and fell into the river.

Well, now she was soggy and also failed at fishing. And there was still possibly someone emerging from the woods. Hime-san was still napping, while Yue attempted to drag herself out of the river.

Bataar tramped to the river, a rudimentary net in his hands. Normally, he absolutely hated fishing, but today it was a necessity. He was quite possibly going to starve to death if he didn't catch himself something to eat and hunting hadn't gone too well earlier. Fishing was, in short, Bat's only option of survival, not that he was going to catch any of the scaled things with his awful-looking homemade net. Still, it was worth a try, and his stomach was urging him on.

He reached the river in time to hear a particularly large splash and he surged forward, hoping against hope that it was a ridiculously enormous fish, but it was not. It was, instead, Yue Lao. He regarded the woman with distaste, his green eyes flashing a bit as he noted her fishing rod. Clearly she was unwanted competition for fish, but he'd show her. He had a net. Beyond this, everyone knew that fishing was a particularly manly hobby, and he was sure to succeed. Those fish would be tripping over themselves to get into Bataar's net!

"No fish yet?" he asked Yue Lao, foregoing any sort of greeting. "I hear they don't much like women," Bat added confidently, obnoxiously stringing his net all the way across the river, in front of Yue Lao's fishing pole. There was a moment of confusion, however, when a small school of fish managed to swim through the net. This was going to be a problem.

"Just, uh-- warming up." Bat muttered, hoping for his stomach's sake that he'd catch something soon.

An enormous, awful-smelling beast surged towards her, and Yue shimmied back on the rocks, slipping a little as she tried to right herself and prevent from tipping over again. Then, when she was sure she wasn't going to heave over into the water once more, she realized it had been Bataar all along.

Under his look of disapproval, Yue Lao crossed her arms, and grimaced at him. What was his problem, anyway? ..And was that a net? She rolled her eyes at him. "What, did they run out of spears, Bataar?" she asked him, waving her fishing rod at him. She snorted when he suggested that fish didn't like women.

She was bad at fishing, true... but now, it was a competition. "I'm certain that anything alive would prefer a woman to a smelly yurt-dweller," she retorted.

She laughed when the fish swam through his net, though, all competitive edge dulled for a moment, as she sat down to try to bait her hook again. "On the other hand, maybe if you stand in the water long enough, it'll pollute it and kill all the fish so they float to the top," she suggested, nearly amicably. Nearly.
