It was unseasonably warm for the start of winter, but for once Genevieve was incredibly glad of the lack of snow. Normally she'd be bemoaning that she couldn't make a snowman, or catch snowflakes on her tongue, but with all of the noise her parents were making about being there for each other this winter and her increasing responsibilities within the Negaverse ... She was relieved that it was warm enough for her to sit outside on the shabby front steps of her family home.

Her parents were bickering over whether or not there was enough cinnamon in the eggnog and should they add brandy to it. Genevieve hoped that just once they'd forget she was there and go ahead and spike the 'nog but she didn't see it happening. Huffing out warm breath into the cooling air she watched the steam drift away and then rolled her eyes. The muffled voices of her mother and father were not going to let up any time soon... So she lifted herself off of her porch steps and stuffing her hands into her coat pocket started walking down the sidewalk.

A good walk was always the thing to clear one's mind.

Walks were great for clearing the mind when troubled, and Porsha was troubled. Or more accurately, in trouble. She nearly always was these days, so really, one night was very much like the next, and as always, she just didn't feel like sitting through another lecture about her faults and apparent lack of ambition. Poe had plenty of ambition, really she did, it just wasn't currently aimed at getting a job anywhere her mother thought was appropriate.

As Porsha saw it, a job was a job, and her mother should be damn happy she wasn't out turning tricks on street corners. She'd said as much, once, but it hadn't gone over well at all.

So instead of letting the argument carry on endlessly as it would have, Porsh had gotten up, grabbed her coat, and left.

She hadn't even made it down her porch steps when Genie came wandering past, and the purple haired teen watched curiously for a moment before calling out. "Hey, want some company?" She didn't need to ask why the other girl was out in the cold walking, she knew.

Poe. The movement on the steps had registered seconds before the familiar voice had called out to her and Genevieve was glad of the offer. She could honestly say there were very few girls that had known the seventeen year old since before school age and even less that she could rely on and call a friend. Porsha was exactly the only one. There was more than just her, but Jude wasn't usually considered a girl.

Turning her face to her friend she simply waved her over before stuffing her hands back into her coat pockets. She'd toned down the cost of all that she was wearing and felt like it was for the best. Genevieve was tired of the comments from the neighbors and honestly wasn't sure of how Poe would see her upgrade in duds. Not that it mattered, the blond had always been the teensiest jealous of her beautiful friend and the attention she got. No matter what she was wearing. Something she knew by now was attention the other girl's parents really didn't like.

"Parents, Poe. We can't live with em' and they'd fall apart without us."

At least both of them could say their parents showed any kind of parental concern. That was a lot more than most of the families in this area of town.

Cramming her own hands into the pockets of her coat, the punkish teen hopped down the stairs of her house and made her way down the short walk to the sidewalk so she could take her place at her friend's side. White teeth flashing in a grin to return the smile the blonde was aiming in her direction. "Oh I dunno about that. If my mom didn't have me to worry about I think she'd be in heaven." Poe chuckled, rolling her shoulders in a small shrug. Her mother had been working two jobs for the last 10 years to make up for her father walking out on them. If Porsha wasn't around, maybe her mother could drop one, start going on dates, be happy..

A sharp sniff followed that thought. She'd be old enough to get the job she wanted at the gym soon enough, and then she'd be out of here, on her own, and mommy wouldn't have to spend whatever free time she did have worrying over the well being of her daughter.

There was a tiny pang of guilt for bemoaning her's or Genie's parents. Neither girl really had it all that bad when compared to their mutual friend and his situation at him with his alcoholic mother. If anyone had right to b***h, it was him, but he never did.

They needed a change of topic. Poe glanced beside her at Genie, looking over her attire for anything that seemed new and worth commenting on, but what she saw was a little surprising. "Toning down the labels?" Plum brows arched curiously. For a while now Genie had seemed to be in love with her name brand couture, so the absence of obvious chiche apparel was pretty noticeable. "Get sick of the mindless gossip?" Poe knew what the neighborhood was saying about Genie, and herself for that matter. She tried to diffuse certain rumors, but it never seemed to work. Her talents were really a lot better suited for bolstering the gossip, not toning it down.

"I think your mom is pretty happy to be yo-," she started to say and then nodded at the question about her clothes. "I don't care what people say about me but when the gossip starts to include my friends it's just not worth it. I can't very well go about and kick the asses of everyone that says anything about you now can I?" She could. She didn't want to, though. It would be horribly time consuming and suspicions would be aroused if an entire neighborhood sustained serious injuries or died all in the same week. Though the idea of it still made her smile.

"Speaking of stuff..." Because that wasn't ambiguous or anything. She didn't say anything else and just pulled out a smushed box that had obviously been nestled within the inside pocket of her coat. "Merry late Christmas, Poe."

Inside the box, nestled among tissue paper and on a silk cushion was a Vivienne Westwood armor ring in silver. It hadn't even been meant to be a Christmas present, the timing had just worked that way. As soon as Genevieve had seen it in the store window she'd thought of her friend. More importantly she'd thought of her friend bashing people's faces in with the ring on her hand. It was a delightful image, but one she kept to herself.

The muscles along Poe's shoulders tensed up as Genie began to speak about her mother and what exactly she was happy about, but visibly relaxed again as her friend was segwayed into the topic of her clothing and the hideous gossip that seemed to circulate around her. Sure Poe liked her fair share of juicy rumors, but not when they had anything to do with her best friends.

She chuckled at the notion of kicking the ever loving s**t out of 80% of their dingy little neighborhood, grinning feircely. "Well you could, and it'd be fun." Narrow shoulders rolled in a shrug. "But you probably shouldn't. The police don't make their rounds out here often, but if enough people called in with assault complaints they just might, and then what would I do with one of my best friend's in lock up?" She snorted.

There would be Jude, but Genie provided a certain comradely that Porsha couldn't really share with their awkward friend.

Silver eyes widened a touch when Genie produced a small box and offered it out to her with a belated merry Christmas, and she hesitated before taking it and turning it thoughtfully in her hands. "You didn't have to do this," she murmured, pressing the pad of her thumb against the corner of the box. "I don't have anything for you.." Yet. She'd certainly have to go and get something now though.

Gifts weren't something Poe was all that used to receiving.

She opened the box, and the seriousness faded from her expression as her eyes landed on the armor ring. "********, that is the most bad a** thing ever. Thank's Genie, really."
