Winter was not Jett’s favorite season. He didn’t care that the snow was pretty or that the air was fresh and clean and crisp, or that the students got a few weeks off from school. All Jett knew was that it was cold. The air stung, froze his lungs, and slowed his blood circulation. And it made him miserable.
He’d have much rather preferred taken Raven to a nice dinner—a fancy restaurant by the window, maybe, so she could get her ice and snow fix, and he could still be warm and full. He’d have a nice steak, a warm cup of coffee…
Raven liked winter enough to deprive Jett of his comfortable warmth.
Raven liked winter enough to want to go play in it.
Which was how he ended up in this unfortunate situation to begin with. Of course he wanted to spend more time with his girlfriend, but did he have to be freezing his balls off to do it? He sat on the bench in the park shoving his foot into the ice skates as quickly as he could. The likelihood of frostbite was slim, but that didn’t mean he was going to waste time and freeze his poor little toes, anyway.
Though he was bundled up, it was still a bit chilly. He had taken off his gloves to lace up the ice skates and let out a gruff sigh as he tied off his second shoe. “I told you, though,” he said to Raven as he worked on double knotting it, “The last time I did any skating was years ago. And even then it was just roller blading. So you’d better not be expecting too much from me. If I fall down, I’m bringing you with me.”

Raven had finished tying on her skates and was watching Jett finish up his with a slightly amused expression on her face. The thought of him falling on his a** really did make the blonde just want to burst out and laugh, but she didn’t. Because she wasn’t a completely rude person like that. She was only slightly rude.
“Nah. You’d need me to help you back up, so you couldn’t drag me down to an icy grave. Don’t worry, Jett. I’ll make sure you stay on your feet. I promise. I’m not going to let you fall. Much.”
Raven enjoyed ice skating…it was something she had been doing since last winter, coming to the rink every so often in the summer even, well, until they ended up in the Surrounding. She just enjoyed the feel of the cold air, and the way the ice felt as she glided over it, making a path in something that was all but perfect…scarring it with a sharpened piece of metal.
It sounded so…glum. But it always felt so liberating.
Raven adjusted her knit hat and stretched, smiling. “Come on, Jett. We’ll skate some, then go to the party at Quinns.”

Jett huffed and grumbled something to himself before he whined—almost like a child—“I don’t want to go to any parties…”
He pushed himself up, balancing on the blades of the skates though with obvious irritation. He had nothing against Quinn or Lydia, but if he was going to spend the next God knows how long skating on the ice and making a fool of himself, he wasn’t going to be in a good mood.
His arms were outstretched just ever so slighty so he could balance himself; he hadn’t worn expensive shoes and so had no qualms over leaving his shoes in a bag on the bench. A part of him hoped they’d be stolen so he could have an excuse not to go out.
He held out his hand for Raven, not because he was a cuddly, hand holding sort of guy, but because he meant it—if he was going down, he was taking her with him. “Isn’t this enough for you? I’m already freezing my a** off, now you want me to go socialize at some party, too? …Aren’t you still worried about exposing me to too many pretty ladies or something? What if I have too much egg nog and get tipsy and start making out with someone not you?” he threatened, though it wasn’t very fierce or serious; he was just trying to distract himself from the cold as he shuffled towards the ice, still holding Raven’s hand.

Raven just snorted at Jett’s whining and rolled her eyes. She brightened, however when the male took her hand, taking it as a sign that he wanted to be close to her. How very romantic. She helped him onto the ice, pondering his statement and the question about what if he started making out with someone at the party.
“Well, Jett. If you made out with one of them, I suppose I’d start drinking and make out with someone too. It wouldn’t be much of a big deal. That’s what parties are for, right? Making out, all that jazz. Besides. Little make out times like that aren’t too terrible. It’s when I don’t know who you’re making out with. That’s what gets me angry. I like controlling the situation.”
She seemed to almost try prove this by tugging his hand on the ice, trying to get him to wobble along a little faster. “We’ll know everyone at the party. At least a little. We’re a team. We need to trust one another and stuff. If there’s some lip locking involved…so be it. It happens sometimes.”

Jett scoffed at the idea of Raven controlling the situation. He liked the girl, there was no doubt about that, but the moment she started trying to control him—done. Jett liked his freedom, and while he enjoyed Raven’s gutsy nature, he wasn’t about to start being obedient. He withdrew his hand from hers rather decisively as he slid onto the ice. It was much easier to balance when you were gliding and not shuffling along through the snow.
“Is that so?” he replied in almost a callous tone. “Because, I would think you’d be more upset if I made out with someone you knew. Someone you’re supposed to be able to trust, for example. Your teammates? They should know better than to make out with someone you’re dating.” He cast Raven a glance as he glided slowly over the ice. “…And don’t think I’ll be pleased if I catch you locking lips with anyone, Raven, so don’t use ‘It’s a party, it happens’ as an excuse. I thought the whole reason you wanted to date was so we’d be exclusive?”

Raven glided a bit away from Jett, laughing. “Oh Jett. We are exclusive. Don’t get me wrong with that. You’re missing the point, and I’m really not sure what my point was right now anymore. But, we’re going to go to the party, okay?”
She spun around and began to skate backwards, facing the other blonde and sticking out her tongue. “I already have my present in the car, and I have a bunch of snacks that I made for the party, so…if we don’t go, they’ll just go to waste, and we wouldn’t want that to happen, right?”
She would get her way with this issue, there was no doubt in her mind. If she had to use begging or tears, even, she’d get him to that party. Unity was a must for their team. Besides, she quite liked Quinn and Lydia after their shopping trip.

Jett’s lips curled into a delicate sneer and he rolled his eyes at her comment as he pushed himself to add a little momentum to his skating so he could stay near enough to Raven to hold up a conversation. If Jett was indeed rusty, he wasn’t showing it at all; his balance was impeccable and he never once looked uncomfortable on the ice.
“Well, I haven’t brought anything,” he grumbled; he hadn’t thought it odd that she had brought snacks, though that did explain why she’d been so elusive with answering his question for their purpose while they’d still been in the car. “And I haven’t brought any nice clothes. I’m sure you can find some alternative for all those snacks, Raven. Give them to your dog. Or feed them to the homeless.”
His hands were cold; he shoved them into his pockets as he continued to skate along, looking a mixture of agitated and indifferent. It wasn’t entirely Raven’s fault, but Jett was not a winter person. And it was damn cold. “What reason is there to go, anyway? Does it serve some higher person or is it just to satiate ourselves with food and company?”

Raven just rolled her eyes again, speeding up in her skating, doing a small jump to move forwards once more, skating beside Jett. “Then we can stop at a store and you can pick something up. You don’t need nice clothes, you look nice in what you’re wearing now, and we’re going so we can better get to know our team. It’s good to keep relations open. I mean, from all of our court, the only one that I can really say that I know well is you.”
It was quite clear that she had thought this out, at least a little.
“I spent some time with Lydia and Quinn the other day when we went shopping, but apart from them, I’ve only ever seen the others when we were at Quinn’s the last time. How are we to be a good court and good members of something greater if we avoid social gatherings.”
She glanced over at him, taking his hand once more. “It’s final. You’re coming with me.”

This was a decision Jett was not particularly thrilled with; he gave Raven a disgruntled look as she slid her hand into his. He was not flourishing his step as much as she was and seemed to be boredly skating along. “It’s not my fault if you’re not making friends,” he huffed, though he had long since run out of valid arguments.
The cold had successfully numbed his brain and he wasn’t about to resort to name calling and throwing a tantrum just to get his way. He had the option to continue whining, though such would sully his name and so he just pursed his lips tightly and dully continued skating alongside the girl. He wasn’t going to argue that they probably should be spending more time with the court; he was indulging in far too much time with Raven. Not that he was neglecting his duties; he’d been rather active in collecting energy and serving the Court. “Do you have to drag me along to do it? I could be doing much more productive things than attending to a party. Like sleeping. Between everything”—being, Remarque, work, school, his mother, Millie, boxing and her—“you know I’m exhausted,” he drawled as he once more picked up speed a bit, lazily swinging her hand as he held it.

Raven sighed and stroked the back of his hand with her thumb. “Well, tell you what, Jett. If you get really bored at the party, you can take a nap and lean against me or something. I don’t care. We don’t have to stay there forever, just so the court knows we’re not abandoning them for our own selfish…stuff.”
She wanted to be a better soldier, she wanted to give back to the court that had helped to give her…well, her life. The blonde shrugged then stretched. “You’re hands are really cold, Jett. I know we just started skating, but you wanna go get warmed up and get ready to go to the party? Maybe you’d be happier then. We can go get something to eat then head over.”
That sounded good to her. And maybe it would make Jett less of a grump.

Jett scoffed as he continued to skate alongside Raven. He was grumpy, but that was just Jett. "You don't just go over to someone's house and go to sleep, Raven. That's rude. It's also rude to cut plans short with your girlfriend and break her poor little heart after she was so dead set on going ice skating. I wouldn't do that to you. Just hold my hand some, it'll warm up."
There wasn't really any point in grabbing something to eat if you'd been invited to a dinner party, though Jett didn't object to warming up for a bit after this. Hell, though, he could always just turn up the heat in the car. He continued skating at a leisurely pace, still swinging Raven's hand a bit back and forth as they glided on the ice together. "...We can go to the party," he added begrudgingly. "But you owe me, all right? The next time I want to do something obnoxious, no saying no. Deal?"

Raven grinned and gave a happy sounding laugh. Perfect. He gave in to everything. If it was going to be this easy to get her way with Jett, then she was in for a very nice time as their relationship progressed. Ah well, it would be time to think of that later. Right now she should just focus on enjoying her time with Jett today.
The blonde pressed close and gently kissed the male’s cheek. “All right. Sounds good to me. Let’s keep on skating then!”
She hoped though, that whatever obnoxious thing Jett wanted to do in the future…she really hoped it wasn’t too obnoxious. That wouldn’t be very good and she didn’t want to have to make a fool of herself.
