In some cases it could be a problem in others a perk, but living with a small group of predators had numbed Subito’s cautious nature considerably. That was why it was rather easy for the young hare to ignore his instincts and stand fearlessly on top of the trunk of a fallen tree where just about every predator on the ground and in the air could easily spot him. An eagle circled above him? No problem. A ratel was sniffing something nearby? Not a problem either. A wild dog walked right next to him without making a sound? It was also not a problem because he knew them all. A few months had passed since he had started living with this odd little group and even though Subito didn’t quite realize it, he had changed quite a bit during this period. And yet, some things were still the same. The twinkle in his eyes, the lightness in his tone, his eternal optimism…this situation wasn’t exactly natural but somehow it worked and Subito was happy.

He had found placement within the oddball family they raised. Amelie, had found herself moved with the decision on his stay and earning the trust of predators that rarely, a prey could ever say. It was a thing of the past when she found out how predators really acted. If you were big and bad like them- showed them no fear, then they would find respect for the strength. Her ears were always panned back, wrapped with a cloth, and she always looked like some cookie cutter hare mother. Just with children bigger than her own, and when they all came for dinner- and when they all left to find happiness... It was tiring to be lonesome- but with Subito that had changed. Someone to help her clean the place up and followed her, and helped her with her migraines.
She took in the fresh scent, as she looked up in to the sky from where she was cleaning. Only to find Subito far off on a log, where all predators could see, he was finally one of them.. She put the little made shift broom down on the side of the den, brushes herself off to meet up with him. Climbing up on the log and finding her place beside him, except her poor body went slightly limp and she sat beside him. Lifting her chin up to embrace the wind in her fur..
"It feels good doesn-it."
The jack rabbit was simply in love with life now... Shamira was finally happily with Nafsi, their life starting anew... The ratel was still pissed off bulldog looking, and the Nafsi's serval was still stalking, and Aiolos and his chicks... Everyone's life was going on.. Their one big happy family. Amelie couldn't help but give a sigh of relief on how her life turned out to be- and if this was going to be the end of the road for her life now.. She wouldn't dream that in her own life, a new adventure was just around the corner..

Subito looked sideways and smiled before throwing his paws around Amelie in a tight fluffy hug. They’d grown closer during the last few months and Subito could no longer imagine his life without her. Their relationship had progressed slowly from that first initial moment where he’d felt captivated by the gentle hare to feelings of protectiveness that grew until they’d become much more.
“It does!” he agreed enthusiastically, making no effort to hide his happiness as his voice dropped to a gentle whisper. “Our odd little family is slowly getting bigger.” Maybe… it would be their turn soon? Subito couldn’t think of a better – that is, safest – place to raise little kits but that was a subject he was still fairly embarrassed to bring up without a generous amount of coaxing. “What were you doing?”

"Cleaning of course." She smiled and leaned back to only look up at him. "Our?" Was he finally admitting being part of this family of oddities? She could hardly believe that such a hare would do such a transformation. Most would have run- or tried to kidnap her away but finally another hare shared her same compassion. Of course, with some growing- he finally did.
"A little birdy told me that she was feeling rather ill.. I think we will soon be having some new additions to the family." She looked away and out to where the plains outstretched. This was the perfect place to raise a family- and they would learn the ways of both predators and prey. "I am happy for that.." She sighed and looked rather distant when the new additions came about.. It reminded her of her own children.. If she had gotten the chance to raise them. In fact, today was the anniversary of them and she tried to keep herself busy to keep from thinking about it..
"Have you ever had kits of your own Subito.. ?"

“Kits..?” Subito asked absent-mindedly before the weight of the word finally hit him. “Oh, no no no… I’ve never really had a girlfriend or…” Well, it was his turn to blush now. Suddenly, Subito felt as if temperature had started rising a little too quickly. For a moment, he even wondered if she’d been able to read his thoughts and he gave Amelie a little worried sideways glance.
“I’d like to… one day." He finally admitted before quickly looking away. "Wouldn't... y-you?” His mind became blank and the young hare was completely lost on what to say next.

She seemed almost blank as she closed her eyes to remember.. The wind grazing through her fur. Flashbacks of what happened.. Then she turned to Subito. "You seem like a stud enough to have kits already- " Then she slowly slid her way down the log and flopped upon the ground.
"I already have all the children I can handle.." Brushing off her apron and fixing her 'hair' back. "Ahbri my troublesome angry badger, My cute wilddog whom is soon to have puppies, my wilddog's mate- my bird friend and his chicks that he leaves behind because he fails at responsibility and our resident serval that helps us out only when she sees fit. Then my only hare friend- you." Hopping with her front paws forward as she stepped a few away from the log then looked back.
"I'm off to bring flowers to the river- will you be staying to watch the fort?"

“No, no… I’m really not.” He chuckled, awkwardly rubbing his nose with his paw and smiled when Amelie started described the odd group that had gathered around her. He was happy – and even a little proud - to have been included in it.
“You’re going alone?” he asked quickly, worry clear in his voice. Even with friendly eyes in the sky, Subito didn’t like that idea one bit. “I’ll go with you.” His paws scratched the bark of the fallen tree as he hopped to the ground. “I won’t bother you, I’ll be quiet.” It sounded somewhat controlling even as he said it but he couldn’t help it. Not when every moment when Amelie was away from him left the young hare with painfully vivid nightmares where he dwelled on some great tragedy befalling her. And there was always that one dream where Amelie and the others were suddenly gone and he was left alone in dark and silent place. That one, he wouldn’t dare to admit even to himself, was actually the one that scared him the most.

The hare was honest with herself, she looked to him and felt warmth. But friendship was the only thing painted on her face.. with no ill intentions. Just the memory of the flowers and river. This would be the first time someone had went with her other than Shamira- the only one to known to have been there around this same time of year.
"Alright." Sounding defeated with a slight smile to the edge of her maw.
Off towards the river, on the way there she would pick flowers. Huge ones, small ones, and off all types and colors. She hopped with purpose and looked at the flowers as if she were making sure they were PERFECT. She'd ask him by looks, holding the flowers for Subito to comment but then would take them anyways..
When they got to the river, her basket was full- with an assortment of flowers and she stopped just before it. As if it were some big feat for her to even touch the river.. Exhaling and closing her eyes as she went up to it... then put her basket down.. Her whole demur lowered and everything about her was surreal... That aura she gave off, the sadness and hardship was now painted on her face. Love was there... Silence grew and the only sounds that were heard was the river touching and blowing over the rocks within it.. The wind shuffling her fur around..
"Today... is very important to me." The day that marked her children's death. Conjoined. The only day she had to mourn and celebrate them.. because when they died.. the sky turned purple and red- and the river looked exactly the same.

Subito grinned when she allowed him to follow, silently hoping he wasn’t being too forceful. Pretty soon he was grinning like an idiot, dogging her steps and watching over her as she picked the flowers, giving his opinion when asked but trying to be as quiet and unobtrusive as possible. While he would occasionally find a perch on rocks or logs and look for any signs of danger, for the most part the young hare’s eyes never left Amelie, tracing every line in her expression with soft eyes and a gentle smile.
“Really? Why?” He asked lightly and probably more cheerily than he should have. In the already beautiful landscape, she was a vision and he couldn’t look away even if he wanted.
Sometimes he wondered about her past and the visions that afflicted her. In her expression, he often saw hints of a sadness so heavy he couldn’t possibly understand or grasp and he felt the urge to hold her close, to protect her and never let her go.

[ Sorry for the long awaited post ;3; ilu! ]
"The anniversary of my children's death." She turned and gave him that saddened smile. Back then she couldn't admit to their death but over time this changed.. and healed the wounds with this new found family. Looking down at the basket she had made for their spirits. "I always put a basket when it comes time for the first day in spring.." Nodding happily. "I wanted to share this with you, though now It seems slightly embarrassing. I bet you didn't know I had children that weren't predators." She lightly joked and picked up the basket once more..
Again the silence grew and right before she was about to call him over to set the basket to leave... she was snatched up by a jackel.. His tail padding as he dodged but was met with a kick in the face and a heavy eye punch. No no- don't mess with this hare. "MY BASKET!? UN PAW ME YOU FILTHY BEAST!" The basket fell as the jackal smashed his paws in to it as he tried to shake Amelie's paws away from his face. Growling and aggressively smashing her finally on the ground to stop her from moving.. He knew he could get one- but when he looked up, he saw the second one just inches from his face and that crook smile came as one eye seemed to hurt to open again...
Then the rush he went head first towards Subito..

Subito’s voice was but a whisper when he spoke again.
“I knew… something had happened.” He’d been told by her fierce protectors that there was a tragedy in Amelie’s past and that he should tread carefully if he was willing to pursue his interest in the beautiful and kind hare. A nicer way of saying “hurt her and we’ll take you apart limb from limb”. The knowledge that she’d had kits before came as with no surprise. He'd always known she was a little older than him and her maternal instincts were obvious for the all world to see. “I’m sorry.”
Subito went quiet for a few moments, thinking of how he could now understand what went through Amelie’s head when she would get lost in thought and silently stared at sky with a sad expression. At that moment, Subito just wanted to put his paws around her but everything turned to mayhem when jackal grabbed Amelie and threw her against the ground with a thud that had Subito’s stomach doing a backflip.
If he had attempted to dodge the attack, the younger hare might’ve been caught in the powerful jaws of the predator. As it were, Subito simply dodged on instinct and blinded by rage, pushed the ground with his back paws and went for the jackal’s left eye as the creature fell on the spot where he’d been just a moment before. His blow connected but it was hard to see how much damage was done because the predator closed his eye with a whelp.
“Aloios!!!” he shouted at the sky in a midst of anger and panic as he ran forward to place himself between the jackal and Amelie.

"It's ok.." With a hefty sigh..
-
All that moment came to a spiraling end when the Jackal sprung at her. Caught her in his grasp and thrashed her. With a kick, she wasn't gonna go down easily and when the other hare attacked him. The pup was all too confused that hares would be 'attacking' them! This was madness! He thrashed her around a bit, and jumped back while shaking his head. "UN PAW ME I SAID! YOU BROKE MY BASKET!!!!" She screamed, as he trampled all over it as he tried to escape her punching his snout to let her go!
But when he knew this wasn't enough, almost as soon as Subito called for back up, so did the jackal. Whom almost immediately two other almost starving jackals came, fighting but weak and almost 'stupid' in the way their tactics were. Running and jumping all around even to places were no one was! Looking around aimlessly before spotting the other hare and both jackals dodged for him.. But little did they know the wreck the group they were trying to fight...
"GET OFF!" She yelled, tears coming down her cheeks as she punched repeatedly.. It felt hopeless, she wasn't worried about herself.. But the memories of her children.. "NOOOOOO!!!!" Punching repeatedly..
------
Aiolos... was called. His head turned as he was the 'nanny' for today, but when he heard his name. He really didn't hesitate and jumped out in a hurry.. Ardi the honey badger merely watched as the bird left. The sound of the the scream startled him and he couldn't leave Aether to watch the puppies.. and Shamira or could he.. He thought about it.. and decided to better suit to help his den mate and went after Aiolos's flutter. Dodging between the bushes and he got near and the sight nearly terrified the both of them as they went on a spree of throwing themselves on the culprits. Aiolos went in for Amelie and started attacked the face while Adri started to growl and hiss at the other two.. Whom he tried to get Subito away from.
"RUN HARE!" Abri yelled as he clawed at the air in front of him as he stood firm in front of his prey-mate. "Get to the den!" Aiolos dived in repeatedly in to the Jackal's face. Thrashing his beak in to the one whom grabbed Amelie. No one prey out of their momma!!
-
"MY BABIES!" She yelled.. out with a screaming ailing sound.. that felt as if she were dying in the clutches of the jackal but at the same time she hadn't notice that he punctured her side and was filling his maw with blood..

Subito turned his head in every direction, wide eyes watching warily as new foes jumped out of the bushes and a look of wild desperation took over his expression.
"RUN HARE!", he heard someone say in the distance before the badger suddenly stepped between him and the approaching canines.
Run? What? Where? Without her? Impulsively, Subito followed the command, desperately trying to restore some order to his world but he stopped abruptly after only a few quick zigzagging hops as Amelie screamed again. “AMELIE!” He turned, knowing than he could never leave unless she was safe and he looked back at the large eagle. If Aiolos failed to pull Amelie out of there – was she bleeding? SHE WAS BLEEDING! – it would take but a few seconds for Subito to jump in to help her. One second. Two seconds. Too slow, he was already sprinting towards the other hare.

But once the jackal had a taste, oh he wasn't about to let go.. And dug his teeth in and with one final bash with a jump she hit her chin against his snout and got knocked on conscious from the thrashing.
With the hare coming at them, it didn't take long for Aiolos to grab ahold of the jackal's face and with one swoop stabbed his eye. A fisher man's eagle is no joke. Not at all. With that he plucked it right out after some serious jerking from his head for his beak to pull out of the slimey flesh. It felt like a fish's eye.. And that made Aiolos love the fact even more.. Addy was on the jackal's heels and biting and trying to warn off the others which made him an ample candidate to get jumped on. But another jackal ran in to him and caused him to roll out of the way.
But he didn't stop there. He kept plucking til finally all the jackal's suicide attempts at the hare.. with one eye, the taste didn't even taste good anymore.. and my him vulnerable as he whimpered and cried between snarls reluctant little bugger..
With Amelie's body hanging limply in his maw as the commotion got more wild..
