It was too quiet. The silence was unnerving to the Lieutenant. Even late at night there was a general ambiance that filled Destiny City. Cars driving, people laughing and talking, there was always some kind of sound. Unfortunately for herself, Zanazziite had seemed to accidentally discover that the only time Destiny City quieted down was around four in the morning. Late night revelers had already made it home and the early birds weren't quite awake yet. Which of course led to the question of why the Lieutenant was patrolling at such a time. If asked the bluenette wouldn't have an answer past 'Escaping'. Escaping from what who knew, but it seemed to be working, at least so far.
The feeling of unease grew in the seventeen year old the longer the quiet stretched out, and when it was finally broken as she was circling the park she nearly screamed. It was the sound of a fight, after more than a year in the Negaverse it was an easily recognizable sound. For a moment she just stood clutching a hand to her chest as she tried to slow her rapidly beating heart. Once she managed to catch her breath she threw out her senses 'feeling' for power signatures. She immediately picked up on the youma in the park, but no one else. Relieved she sighed, just a youma doing its job even if the civilian it was targeting was putting up a fight it wasn't something she needed to get involved in.
She was about to continue on her way when a shout cut through the air stopping her dead in her tracks. She recognized that voice, even just as an echo on the wind. She'd know Anthony Darrow's voice anywhere, she did keep tabs on him for the better part of a year. Her chest constricted and the Lieutenant steeled herself before she took off into the park, towards the sound of the fight an antler in each hand.
She liked to think she had matured since her schoolgirl infatuation with the librarian, but she was still, in fact, a schoolgirl (even if she barely spent time as Claudia these days) and the memory of the older man's rejection still cut deep. Even so she couldn't just stand around and let him get hurt- if anyone was going to be giving him injuries it was going to be her.

Tony had simply wanted to hang out with a friend from work. Maybe he was feeling spoiled, after being able to go out with Kyndall to the bar and having quite a lot of fun because of it. From what he could remember, anyway. It had been a very rough time, regardless, and the reprieve had been nice. Welcomed.
It was good to feel normal. So good, he had been surprised by how unnatural it was beginning to feel. Did that even make sense?
He had his friend, another man who worked at the library, except in the offices that dealt with shipping and receiving. A number cruncher who spent as little time at work as possible, a stark contrast to Tony, who spent as much time as he could there.
The trip to the bar had been fun, just sitting around, watching whatever was on the big screen. Tony hadn't even had much to drink, though his friend had dived right in and now was paying for it. In more ways than one. His drunkenness was not useful in a fight like this, against a youma that had attacked them while they were walking home. His friend was bellowing and crying, curled on the floor but watching as Tony tried to fend the youma off with his walking cane.
With his friend watching there was no way for him to power up.
"Damn it, let go of my leg!" Tony yelled, not at the youma but the man baby clawing at him. He was not helping at all, but the fear was too much for some people. The youma took advantage of his predicament and slammed its clawed hand into Tony's gut, making him gag and double over in pain as the youma reared up over him.

While she was running through the trees to get to the path that cut through the park Zanazziite had come up with a plan. She'd talk the youma down, somehow convince it the librarian wasn't worth its time. She had a feeling it wouldn't be easy, even for her, but she really didn't like the alternative option.
Her entire plan was shot to hell when she burst out of the trees, scrambling to a stop as she was faced with a very pissed off youma about to body slam the older man. If she was one for cursing this would be the time for it, but as it was she just pursed her lips, her grip tightening on her antlers. She only had seconds to decide what to do, the safety of the other man not even factoring in to her decision making.
In the end it turned out Zanazziite was unable to just stand by and watch while the youma attacked the man whose rejection had broken her heart. She hated him, yes, but at the same time she didn't want anyone to hurt him. It was an extremely conflicting feeling and she didn't dwell on it as she ran forwards. "Hey, big guy, over here!" Her call caught the youma's attention just as it was about to bring its claws down on Tony. Instead it paused, staring at the bluenette.
The Lieutenant braced herself for what she was going to have to do even as she pushed off the ground, her body arcing through the air to land on the youma's back. Distracted and confused the youma turned its attention on the new opponent trying to remove the annoyance. Zan managed to duck its claws and let one antler disappear, taking the remaining one in both hands and lifting it over her head. "I'm sorry," The words were whispered, to be heard by the youma alone as she brought the antler down with all of her strength burying it in the thing's head. The youma's response was violent and it began to thrash wildly trying to survive. It seemed it wasn't going to go down with a fight.
Leaving the first antler buried in the youma she summoned its mate and, holding onto the thrashing youma with her legs, managed to bring the second antler down sinking it into the youma next to the first. At that point the youma made a pitiful sound, swaying on its feet before it imploded leaving only dust behind and causing Zan to suddenly fall the few feet to the ground with a thud as the wind was knocked out of her. She didn't move, lying prone on the ground as she attempted to catch her breath.

Tony was very glad when he heard someone calling. A senshi, maybe: the voice was familiar. He turned, though, and recognized the out fit of someone he hadn't seen in a very long time. Someone who had kidnapped him, and he had gotten away only by breaking her heart.
He wondered if she forgave him for that...
He was still struggling to breathe, though, his lungs burning horribly from the hit. He looked down to see his friend was no longer clinging to him. In fact, his friend was no longer anywhere to be seen. Grimacing, knowing he was going to have a large bruise on his body now, he looked at Zan.
"Thank you," he said carefully, straightening up, hand on his side. He cleared his throat, nervous.
Back then, he hadn't know who she was. What she was. She was a negaverse agent and he knew that he needed to be careful around those. But he still didn't want to hurt her. And maybe she didn't want to hurt him, though she had been so upset and was a little on the crazy side, since she had kidnapped him in the first place. But she was only trying to take care of him after he was hurt...
He smiled at her, trying to look far more relaxed than he felt.
"That thing would have killed me if you hadn't shown up."

After a moment or two of lying on the ground the bluenette wheezed and then coughed, able to breathe again. She was still coughing as she pushed herself up, first to her knees and then she rocked back to her heels so she could stand straight up. Her chest still felt constricted but she wasn't sure if it was from Tony or from getting the wind knocked out of her.
She was brushing her dress off, purposefully not looking at him when she heard him speak. She didn't say anything at first, surprised by the rollercoaster of emotions she was riding on. Happy because he wasn't dead, sad because he had pushed her away all that time ago, anger at herself for even caring still, and of course the feeling she shoved as far away as she could: denial. A rational part of her that she liked to ignore always knew her feelings wouldn't be reciprocated, but it hadn't mattered then.
When he smiled at her she frowned, crossing her arms over her chest. "Don't thank me, it was only doing its job." All pretense of the Abigail persona was gone, she didn't even bother to try to keep it up. That charade was long over and she didn't have the heart for it. "I should have let it kill you."

Tony watched her, knowing that she was still furious with him. Her tone and the way she was trying to hide her being injured on his behalf was evidence of that.
But he wasn't mad at her. Maybe he could have been, considering she had kidnapped him, but she had also tried to help him when he was injured. That was important. She wouldn't let anything happen to him, even if she did hate him for breaking her heart. It was a necessary evil, but maybe they could still talk. Maybe he could help her, if not as Tony then as Camelot. There was good in her, he knew there had to be.
Sometimes he got a little blinded by his hopes more than what was really going on around him.
"I know it was doing it's job," he said blearily, trying to maintain a civilian point of view. Even as a civilian, though, he had known a lot about this world. Which was good for him, making it easier to fake. "It was a monster. But you're not, and you saved me. I appreciate that, a lot. Even after all... uhm... that. Before. Ah. Are you hurt?"

When he said she wasn't a monster violet eyes glanced at him and then away again. Was she a monster? It wasn't something she spent a lot of time thinking about. She didn't suppose she was one, but she didn't think the youma was one either and obviously Tony did. What did that say about her?
"You don't even know me." While they had spent time in Tartaros together it wasn't all that much, and it wasn't like they had long heart to hearts while she was stalking him. She scoffed in a very unladylike manner as he mentioned just that. Hurt? "Emotionally or physically?" Zanazziite bit her tongue after the words escaped. No, she wasn't going to let him know his rejection still hurt. She shut down her emotions and shook her head. "I'm fine."
Putting her back to Tony she stared at the pile of dust that used to be a youma, her fingers worrying the leather pouch that hung around her neck and held her crystal. She could be rid of him right then, raise the youma and unleash it on him. Originally she had saved him so that she could get her revenge up close and personal, but now standing in front of him she realized she didn't have the heart to beat him in cold blood. That would make her a monster...but the youma, well it would just be doing what was natural.

Tony frowned softly, nodding his head slowly. Maybe she was right. He didn't know her. No, she was definitely right. He had thought he knew her, after their time in Tartaros, but hadn't even suspected she was a member of the Negaverse at that time. Maybe he had been a little naive there.
Still, he held firmly that there was good in her... she just didn't know what to do with it. Maybe that was why she had kidnapped him in the first place. She needed to save him, though she had gotten it in her head that she loved him. That meant she had a capacity for the kind of love and caring that people associated with 'good' guys. It meant she could be an ally, not an enemy, if they worked at it.
Maybe he could even convince her to stop her part in this war.
But he was getting ahead of himself. As Tony, he could do very little, and there was no way he could power up at the moment.
"Well, I mean. Both, if you're hurt both ways. I think I can guess why... our last encounter was a bit... awkward." To say the least, "but I mean. It's been a little while now, and surely you understand why I had to... ah... do what I did... I mean, you wouldn't have saved me if you didn't understand that. I hope."
