Millie jumped out of her mother’s car and all but hopped all the way to her father’s door, knocking loudly on it, waiting for him to answer. So it wasn’t going to be the normal visitation night, no sir. She was going to be killing two birds with one stone, visiting her dad and getting some cans for the food drive as well! It was a perfect idea.
She waited for a moment, fingering a loose thread on the sleeve of her Jedi robe, then knocked again, ringing the doorbell a short moment later. What was taking him so long? She had been standing there for a whole twenty seconds at least!
She was very excited to tell her father about the food drive, and really hoped he’d go and buy her a grocery cart full of cans just like Jett did! That would be amazing and she would be that much closer to her end goal…which just might have to be extended to four hundred cans if she managed to collect her initial two hundred and twenty seven! Think of how many people she could help!
The child sighed, ringing the doorbell once more, swaying a little. Why was her daddy taking so long?

Garethon opened his door, a smile on his lips at the sight of his daugther.
"Hello there sweetheart! Come on in!"
He stepped away from the door, clearing room to let her in. He could tell she was excited about something, so he knelt down to be at face level to her.
"Give daddy a hug and then you can tell me what it is that has you so excited."
He held out his arms expectantly.

Millicent let out a dramatic sigh. “Daddy, It took you so long to open the door! I’ve been waiting out here forever. For completely forever!” She ran into her father’s arms and gave him a big hug, laughing.
When she pulled away, she looked at him sternly.
“Now daddy, I have something very important to talk to you about. And I need your complete cooperation okay? You have to be open minded for this and you have to help me. I’m on a great mission for the Jedi, and I’m working to bring peace and glory to our fair city. There’s a food drive going on, and I’m trying to get two hundred and twenty seven cans to help feed the hungry people out here, and I need you to take me to the grocery store and buy me some cans. My best friend did, and I have so many thanks to him!”
She drew in a breath and laughed. “I have almost a hundred now, I think! I’ve been going door to door, and I wear my Jedi robes everywhere I go so people know I’m working hard on behalf of the Jedi council.”
The child seemed ever so pleased and tugged on her father’s hand. “We can either go to the store now or later, Daddy. But I need to go and I need lots and lots of cans, okay?”

Garethon ran a hand through his hair, trying not to look mortified. 127 cans? That was going to be at least 100 bucks and only if he got 127 of the cheapest cans he could find.
"Well sweetheart, 127 cans might be a tall order. We can go to the store though and see how much we can get. How does that sound to you? And if you want, I'll let you write a letter and I'll see how many I can get from people at my work. What do you think about that?"
He figured he wouldn’t get away with getting her less than 50 cans, but at least with that he could probably stay under 50 bucks, and he'd spend that much on gifts for her before. Hed save the gift he got her this time to give to her another time.

Millicent’s eyes lit up. “I only need about twenty or fifty or so! You don’t need to get me the full hundred and twenty seven, I have other people to give me cans too! I just need a lot! A whole lot, even if you only give me a little lot…that would do better than none!”
She wiggled her index finger. “I’m going to be the hero of the city! You know that, right? My name’s gonna be in lights. And everyone’s gonna know how amazing I am because I saved the world from hunger.”
She nodded. “Yup. The best Jedi in the whole world.”

Garethon smiled. That was the kind of thinking he liked to hear from her. He stood up.
"Well then this is really important. Let me get my coat and keys and then we'll go. We’ll see how many cans they have and how much they cost and that will determine how many cans we can get. Do you think maybe we should get a pint of ice cream with it?"
He smiled at her, taking his coat off the hook and putting it on. He took his keys out of the bowl and slipped them in his pocket before turning back to his daughter to hear her answer.

“Ice cream sounds amazing, Daddy.” She nodded and jumped up and down. “Hey, dad…do you think becoming the hero of this town…will make the real Jedi council realize that I’m ready to be a Jedi? Do you think they’ll come and tell me they’re coming to train me…even if I am too old to be trained? I mean…I should be almost done my training and getting ready to be a for real padawan…”
Even if she was a sailor senshi…she still really, really wanted to be a Jedi someday…even if she did know that it was all pretend…it didn’t matter. It was her dream! And one day…she would make that dream come true…she was sure of that. If she didn’t…well…she’d be a very sad Millie when her dreams didn’t come true. A very sad Millie indeed.
“…To the grocery store!”

Garethon paused for a moment. This is one of those times being a parent was tough. He'd either have to tell her the Jedi weren’t real or encourage her down a path that would eventually break her heart.
Heck, her mother could be the dream crusher. He knelt down in front of his daughter.
"Sweetheart, you are a very, very special girl. I have known that since the moment I first laid eyes on you. You are destined for very, very great things, and maybe one of them is being a Jedi. Maybe you will even be king of the jedi, who knows? But I know one thing, and you can believe this because daddy's know these things, no matter what you try to do in your life, be it be a Jedi or an astronaut or a policewoman or anything, you will be the best at it. Better then..."
He thought for a moment. What was the name of the good guy in those movies?
"Better then Luke Skywalker." He’d been trying to think of the little green guy’s name but that would have to do. “Now let’s go shopping!”
