One puppy left without a home.
Rouge looked right, then left, then right, then all around at the little sand dog before finally pronouncing, "Well, it looks like you're not see-through at all. That's good." Or not, depending on what you liked, but, still a little shaken by the recent turn of events, a solid sand pup seemed to be a good thing to hold onto at the moment. And besides...what she didn't want to say was and you're a very bootiful widdle puppy too - and she didn't want to say it because she would want to keep it, and she had three doggies now, for better or worse. "But who to give you to?" That was the question. She splayed on the floor, idly playing with the pup as she mentally flicked through her remaining dogless friends, staring at the beautiful red on white...too green, too brown, too - "Oh!" she sprang to her hooves, perhaps frightening all the dogs around her a little, but she was too excited to notice it, "Float On's got a white back, mostly - he's largely blue, but you'd look right nice with him, I'd think! And you'd be pretty enough for the vain fellow, I reckon." She laughed at that, and beckoned them all on, a little ragtag group, to find the Acha, but the vestigial hint of a worry did linger. Float didn't quite live in the same world as she did, she'd always had the thought - well, the singing and the dancing and the nice things, yes, but not the blood and hunting - and she wasn't quite sure how she'd react if he looked down his elegant nose at her lovely little pup...well, she'd find out soon.

"Ugh." "Oh." "Ahhh!" "Eep!" Every step, a new noise or expletive passed through Float's lips. And why, you ask? Well simply because it had rained last night. Rain, which made the swamp very very very muddy. Mud, which absolutely ruined his perfectly groomed hooves! This was horrible. Awful! A tragedy at best! Whatever was he to do!? There was no cure for this--Oh. Just as he was about to give up on the last light of hope for his perfect appearance, Float stepped with a splash into a stream. What luck! A miracle even! "Ooooooh thank you dear gracious swamp!" he cried. A tear slipped from one eye as he stepped further into it's waters. "I have passed the trial the swampmother has given me, and here is my reward!" He blew kisses towards the treetops as the mud washed from his legs.

"Ooooh, what trial - and what reward?" Rouge queried nosily as she trotted into the moving little scene, doggies clustered around her. Float's grateful cry had rung through the air, and she'd been close enough to follow it to the source, catching half the last line, even. "Ooh, a stream - don't mind if I do..." As she splashed the mud off her hooves, the dogs followed, wading in to shimmy the dirt from their coats.

Float's ears perked up at the sound of another. "Oh, ah, uh, oh dear," was his first response, his eyes drawn to the mud caked on them. He danced around them up the stream to keep the muddy water from flowing back on to him legs before giving a proper response. "The most gracious swampmother rewarded me for my ever so painful trial by mud with this stream!" he said without even the slightest tint of shame or embarrassment in his voice--indeed, he actually sounded quite proud. "Now I can finally be clean again!"

She did not exactly laugh, but she did smile a little slyly and make some extra muddy splashes as she watched him skip upstream. At his pronouncement, she had to blink. "Uh, alright," she eventually said, "I guess you'd be my guiding spirit then, since you led me to the stream, sort of. The Swampmother's sure doing a lot of trialing these days though, it being rainy season and all. What does it mean when you can't find a stream, you think?"

A chill ran down his spine, and the rustle it gave his perfectly groomed coat was quite visible. "Do not," he paused dramaticly, "even speak of such a thing. Ohhhh, I might DIE if such a thing were to happen! Heavens I hope I never fall out of favor oh dear oh dear oh dear," his voice trailed off into many more "oh dears," and his brows furrowed with great levels of concern as he tried to figure out a plan b in case such a thing were to ever happen.

"W-well, I don't think you'll have to worry too much about it, there's always bound to be a stream around somewhere...right?" The gravity of his voice rather scared her; she started glancing around furtively for some possible sign from the Motherfather, she wasn't too keen to fall out of favour with anyone, herself...but when her eyes fell upon her hounds, her sudden anxiety evaporated in the face of a quick idea. She really did not want to imagine the pretty little puppy spurned, perhaps she could work Float's dread in her favour. "But just in case," she started up again, conversationally, "it would be nice to have something that could lead you to water anytime, wouldn't it?"

"This is true," he replied to her first statement. It lessened his fears a bit--but only slightly so. There was always that "what if" scenario... What if there was a drought? Or worse--what if the only water he could find was DIRTY? Oh the horror! However, at her second statement, his ears perked up, and he cocked his head curiously. "Such a thing exists?" he inquired.

"Just watch," she beamed, "Kisses? Water."
His beloved mistress was talking to him! That was the voice she used whenever she was commanding him to do something! He didn't exactly recognise the word! That's okay! He barked obediently and splashed in excitement.
"See?" she declared, triumphant.

His eyes grew as wide as dinner plates (whatever those were) as Float watched the dog splash around. "Goodness me!" he said, gasping. "Why this creature is simply brilliant! Where ever might I acquire such a marvelous beast?"

"Why, my friend," she smugly smiled, "you are in luck! For one day only, I have a brand new sand puppy looking for a good home!" With a grand flourish of a front hoof, she presented - a soggy little white and red bundle sitting in the middle of the stream.
