She had tried, unsuccessfully, all morning to find a playmate that would entertain her for the sunlit hours. Her father, for starters, had little time for her exclusively with all her other siblings climbing over him, mewing for his attention. Their mother had nothing to do with them once they had been weaned and their eyes had opened up. Perhaps it was because of her that Alvabane had little love for her own gender. Her sisters bored her when they weren't getting on her last nerve, always competing for her father's attention and playmates around the pride lands. Friendship was all well and good, to be certain, but she wasn't the sharing type. She wanted companions that she could confide in without one of her siblings coming up and hearing of every complaint she had to share.
There were plenty of cubs to befriend. She had the great fortune of coming into the world around the same time as several other litters, a common-place incident among the prides. The lionesses helped raise the young inbetween themselves and the cubs grew up with a loose sense of family. Alvabane had befriended, if one could call it that, a pale cub with no voice. She liked him- he couldn't talk. If he couldn't talk, he couldn't share her secrets with anyone else. He was doomed to listen and never comment.
But he was busy. Upon peeking into his den, she found the youth comfortably asleep in his mother's paws while the lioness lovingly groomed his alabaster pelt. Well that was no fun.
Irritated and moody, Alvabane trudged across a patch of dry, cracked earth. The rains wouldn't return for many more months- not that she'd encountered the water from the heavens yet - and the earth had grown dry and dusty with only the watering hole providing life to the pride.

Riv had already found his way to the watering hole. He really had nothing better to do at the moment. Although he was normally extremely protective over his siblings and his mother, there were times where his mother was extremely protective of him. When that happened to him he would normally get extremely upset and wander away. Today was one of those days where his mother was starting to get too overbearing and he had to go the other way. He flicked his hair out of his eyes and when he did that he decided that the watering hole was a good place to find himself. He knew that when his mother finally decided to come find him this was a pretty common place to go so he figured it was going to be a safe place to stop.
He paused for a moment and then started to move closer to the water as he was getting ready to lap some of the water up. He knew that it was a good idea to stay toward the side of the water where there was going to be less grass, if there was less grass that meant that his mother would be able to find him better. He sniffed the water before flopping down on his haunches staring out in the distance. he was pouting a little, he knew that it wasn't that bad but regardless he knew in a little he woudln't be mad at his mom anymore. However as he was sitting there he was hoping that he could run into some one he was hoping that he could have some company, he would really enjoy some company. He didn't want to be around his mom while she was being overbearing however at the same time he really just wanted to have some one to play with. He huffed and flicked his tail around, he was hoping that some one would show up some time soon and maybe hang out or even play. He would be okay with playing for a little.

It took her some time to realize that she wasn't alone at the watering hole. Her mind was pouring over the events of that morning and churning on the frustration that had brought her here. She swiped at pebbles along her way and grumbled to herself as she padded across the cracked ground. Soon the hard, rocky surface became moist and spongy, in places it was uncomfortably so. It was all for the better. If she got dirty, he father would have to give her a bath. At least she'd have him to herself for a little while.
Breaking from her thoughts, she spotted a small form casually lapping up water from the shallows. A green-pelted little boy about her age. She'd not seen him before, but then again there were so many cubs it was hard to keep them all straight. Oh well. He was here, he was her age, and he was alone.
Smirking, she lifted her head and padded up casually beside him. Might as well let him say something first- that's how it should be. At least according to her father. It was the boy's job to talk to a lady first. And she, for all she knew, was a lady.

Just as he wanted, company showed up for Riv. He didn't realize it at first though. He wasn't aware of the other until he was done lapping up water and done thinking of how much he wanted some one to show up. He was surprised to look into the water and see the reflection of another. But he was honestly more surprised to see her standing next to him almost expectantly with out saying anything to him. He glanced back at her and then stared for a few moments thinking about it. Was she okay? could she not talk? He wasn't that sure but he still found it a little strange that she didn't start talking to him. There were few times where he stood here like this not even sure if he should say something.
He then decided it would be best to at least say something to her. "Hello?" He couldn't help but to greet her in an almost question. Still not that sure of what to think or say she looked okay but she didn't start talking when she came over. "Are you okay?"

The cub snorted and brought a paw up to her mouth. Her eyes narrowed playfully as a smile tugged across her features. He was silly. "Is that any way to greet a lady? My my, where are your manners? Of course I'm okay. I was just hoping that I'd found myself someone to play with."
He sighed and lowered her paw down. "You need training. It's okay- I'm good at that. Today you're my project. Let's start with introductions."
He extended a paw, motioning to him. "Boys always introduce themselves first. It's polite. What's your name?"
