Never Ending TomorrowPrologue: The year is After Colony (A.C.) 172 and the solar system has settled into a tenuous peace after a bloody ten year period of conflict which climaxed with a full on civil war before coming to an end with a questionable winner. Currently the United Earth Sphere Federation remains in control of the planet Earth, and the moon while the space colonies, currently collectively ruled by colonial delegates in a republic, maintain their individual space stations with loose ties to each other. They are currently plagued by a lack of central leadership. However one voice calls out for a centralization of power to secure the colonies against all internal and external threats. A new chapter of our story begins at the L13 Colony, commonly known as Neo Vegas. A group of youths have made the commitment to serve their respective colonies as pilots in the military. Why they did so was up to them but that decision will drastically impact all of their lives.
Timeline:
A.D. 2017: The world's fossil fuel supplies begin to run dangerously low and it becomes clear that a complete collapse of civilized nations is quickly approaching.
A.D. 2020: A joint team of scientists successfully build the world's first fusion reactor bringing an end to finite energy on the planet.
A.D. 2021: Fueled by the energy boom all sectors of science begin to accelerate in progress while advances in the genetic engineering of plants and the creation of new synthetic materials allows for an increase in the max population of the planet.
A.D. 2025: NASA builds the first manned space station on the moon. Months after the newest moon landing the first fusion reactor is the target of a terrorist attack. Many historians have speculated that the terrorists were funded by the oil kings angered by the extreme drop in the price of oil after the reactor's completion. After the reactor's destruction the USA, EU, and the ICA (Indo-China Alliance) begin construction of their own reactors.
A.D. 2026: The completion of the three new reactors redraws the balance of power as neighboring countries run to one of the big three to obtain a source of free energy. This divides the world politically into three spheres of influence.
A.D 2027: The IAC begins small scale invasions of its subsidiary nations bringing them under unitary control one by one. This prompts the USA to finally work out and pass a plan which integrates Canada peacefully into a new country known as the North American Federation (NAF).
A.D. 2028: The ICA launches a full scale invasion of Russia in order to secure mainland Asia. This prompts Mexico to join the NAF and for the EU to announce the dissolution of all national boundaries and that all citizens of the former EU were now a part of the Advanced European Union (AEU).
A.D. 2029: While the NAF and AEU had predominantly been characterized by peaceful integration the emergence of a new string of terror attacks against government buildings led to a harsh military crackdown in both of political-economic entities. Meanwhile the ICA had to abandon it's campaign into Russia as news about creation of a new fusion reactor in India was broken to the world. This prompted former elements of the Chinese government to lead a coup and remove the Indian factor from the equation. By the end of 2029 the ICA is dissolved and the People's Reform League (PRL) is born.
A.D. 2033: ICBM's are rendered obsolete by a new laser defense system that can target and disable the war head of any missile on short notice. This new technology renders the threat of global nuclear war obsolete for which ever nation controls it. With the growing threat of the PRL and the NAF's new defense system Australia makes the decision to join the NAF.
A.D. 2035: With the AEU and PRL's development of the laser defense system the threat of nuclear annihilation no longer holds any weight.
A.D. 2036: NASA completes the first ever garden in space. This new technology allows the research station to grow it's own food in space.
A.D. 2037: With almost every country now under the control of NAF, AEU, and PRL a short period of peace settles in as the three nations enter into a new space race.
A.D 2047: After ten years of dumping trillions of dollars into research and development the possibility of building massive permanent structures orbiting the earth seems viable. During this year NASA's small research station was official declared closed as a new spaceport was completed. Known as Point Armstrong the spaceport serves as a base the NAF's numerous space related projects.
A.D. 2049: The world's largest rocket Aquarius 4, part of the new Aquarius missions, is launched from Point Armstrong to Mars. Despite being directed by NASA the project is largely funded by corporations and as a result several companies are granted permission to operate under privatized space programs for their own purposes.
A.D. 2052: Point Armstrong is official declared as the first city on the moon and as part of the deals of 2049 many aspects of the city are privately owned. At the end of the year the NAF switches to the After Colony (A.C.) calendar. News of Aquarius 4 having successfully landed a team on mars and having completed the seconded mission objective of capturing the asteroid Midas-27 from the asteroid belt reaches earth.
A.D 2053 / A.C. 1: Point Armstrong is renamed to Luna City and becomes one of the largest tourist spots in the solar system.
A.D. 2054 / A.C. 2: Exosphere Mining launches a rocket from Luna City with the intent to create numerous mining operations on the planet mars.
A.D. 2056 / A.C. 4: An AEU company known as AEU Steel unveils the first construction vehicle designed to work in space. It is a humanoid exoskeleton dubbed "mobile suit" by the press.
A.D. 2057 / A.C. 5: Aquarius 4 returns to Earth orbit with Midas 22 in tow.
A.D. 2062 / A.C. 10: The PRL is the first to complete a new colony space station. While the NAF and AEU are left in the mid production stages of their own colonies. The PRL begins to use the A.C. date set by the NAF.
A.D. 2063 / A.C. 11: The PRL's colony suffers a catastrophic failure in it's systems and it tears its self apart. Historian's are not quite sure on the exact number but of the 300,000 inhabitants only around 160 survived the event. It is speculated that the PRL rushed several important stages of construction in order to be the nation to finish first.
A.D. 2064 /A.C. 12: The NAF finishes colony construction and a few months later the AEU follows suit. The AEU begins to use the A.C. date.
A.C. 18: Numerous minor wars are fought on earth's surface as smaller nations are swallowed whole by the big three.
A.C. 24: The PRL launches a new campaign into Russia as it attempts to finish the dreams of the former IAC.
A.C. 47: Numerous mining operations and refineries have led to a completely privatized Mars. Though relatively small in comparison to Earth and the space colonies it has several bustling cities.
A.C. 58: Fueled by supplies being shipped in weekly from Mars the big three develop militarized mobile suits in secret with plans to attack the other two nations.
A.C. 60: What is later named the War of Unification begins with the AEU launching, what it thinks to be an easy invasion of the NAF and PRL, is met with strong resistance from both nations.
A.C. 61: Having a larger military force prompts the leaders of the PRL to launch their own invasion of the NAF in an attempt to wipe both the AEU and the NAF.
A.C. 66: With the war having no end in sight and ever escalating conflict the mobile suit had emerged as the new face of warfare and the space colonies were beginning to feel the strain of the war as their inhabitants become a source of cheap labor and a large draft pool for the war.
A.C. 68: Mass anti-war demonstrations begin in the colonies as the people became fed up with what seems like an unwinnable war being waged on the planet below. These protests are met with martial law an all rights are suspended among colony citizens.
A.C. 69: Many colonists begin to engage in terrorist activities against their respective governments in an attempt to get their point across.
A.C. 70: With no progress having been made in the past three years of bloodshed a temporary cease fire is declared. Despite this, pressure on the colonies is only slightly lowered as the three nations stand in a face off prepared for a continuation of the fighting.
A.C. 72: The leaders of the NAF, AUE, and PRL meet to discuss peace in a new conference center located in Luna City. However a group seeking nothing more than revenge planted a bomb and assassinated the leaders at the peace talks. This created a gap in power which was exploited by General Montgomery of the NAF who launched a surprise attack on the AEU. This attack lasted only twelve hours but it allowed Montgomery to capture the capitol of the AEU. Surprisingly he didn't press the attack but instead called for the AEU to join the NAF in friendship. This move shifted the balance of power toward the possibility of a two on one scenario and the PRL quickly came into the fold. Thus the three powers entered into an uneasy alliance.
A.C. 161: The alliance of the NAF, AUE, and PRL is put to the test when a military coup d'état composed of elements from all three nations attempted to take hold of the earth. This would become known as the second war of unification.
A.C. 167: With the anger in the colonies finally reaching a breaking point citizens of the NAF's L25 Colony seized several of the new mobile suit models designed for space combat and declared the colony independent. The NAF tried to retake the colony but the rebels successfully defended their home. The NAF's defeat at the battle would eventually lead to their collapse.
A.C. 168: With L25's victory as an example the other colonies were inspired to form their own militia groups and seize weapons from their governments. These secondary uprisings were much more costly as they NAF, AEU, and PRL had prepared themselves for such events. The PRL even went so far as to use chemical weapons on its own citizens.
A.C. 169: The twelve colonies unite together and form a make shift military composed of militia units from each colony. With the war also turning increasingly worse planet side the NAF, AUE, and PRL are unable to mount a counter attack successfully and eventually fall to the forces of the new United Earth Sphere Federation.
A.C. 171: The colonies defeat the remaining space forces of the NAF, AEU, and PRL. With fear of an attack from the UESF looming on everyone's mind a congress of twelve delegates is formed and small formal military is established to train and lead future militia men. Seeing that any further aggression would solidify the colonies into a single entity the USEF holds back any attacks but makes no recognition of colonial independence. Thus the colonies are left without a common enemy and largely cater to their own individual needs.
A.C. 172: The current year.
