 Orange eyes watched in misery as the gazelle bounded away, actually laughing at the inept lioness. This was the third time this morning that she had missed the prey completely, not even getting close enough to touch it's fur.
The young lioness hunched her shoulders, head hanging down, ears splayed out, a picture of absolute misery and disgust.She could feel tears welling up in her eyes. How was she suppose to provide for her son, if she couldn't even take care of herself? She loved little Chakl with all her heart and soul, but she was starting to wish she had made him stay with his father and other three siblings. At least there he would be well fed.
A heavy sigh slipped from her muzzle as she got to her feet once more, trying to smell the air for something, anything that might be edible.

Hunger was a familiar enough companion. Even with Sarabi's many attempts to teach him, Kayin was a far cry from a hunter and perhaps even farther from a fighter. He could use his claws and teeth, but he lacked the tact and finesse of a hunter, he lacked the power of a fighter, and worst of all- he lacked the hearing that most surviving creatures of the grassland often thought so little of on a daily basis. He couldn't miss what he never knew, however. He was happy enough living under his brother's care with visits from his funny lioness friend whenever she had the time to make her rounds to see him. Unfortunately- both were out looking for game.
So it was in the silence of his existence that the gazelle herd came loping by. Kayin didn't stir until one nearly stomped his tail. The vibration just inches from him roused him with a slurred yelp. The other prey beasts scattered, voicing their own surprise as the small, boney lump in the ground revealed itself to be a lion.
Eyes wide and chest heaving in surprise, Kayin watched the creatures bounce off to the horizon. "Wrut that?!"

Xho gave her own startled yelp in answer, eyes widened when the lion appeared. "Oh goodness!" It was a good thing that the grey male had no malice in her, else the ditzy female would have been in grave danger. With no thought that this might be someone to avoid, she trotted towards the male smiling brightly, "You gave me quiet a fright sir! I didn't know anyone else was about. "
Her bright smile was warm and infectious as she flopped down in the cool grass a few feet away. "I am Xho. What's your name?"

For a good long while it would seem that he was either ignoring her entirely or he'd simply not heard the lioness or her approach. His attention was out on the bouncing white tails on the distance as they made their retreat. Surprise and alarm littered his features as he surveyed the landscape around him. What had startled them so?
His answer presented itself as he turned around. The male gave another involuntary yelp and stumbled backwards as he beheld the face of a stranger. When did she get there?
He blinked dimly then slowly leaned forward, his eyes narrowing on her mouth. Oooh? Her name was ooh? With no other means to take the introduction than from what he could read off the lioness' mouth it certainly looked like it.
"Oh." He said, his voice a little louder than was necessary. "I am...Kayin. Your-" He pointed over one shoulder. "Floodstuff got 'way."
