 Vassago stayed close to mommy as they viewed their home outside the den. He wanted to bound off and explore the newest of the outside, find the differences between here and the den. His small body quivered with excitement and the need to go and find out, but something mommy and dad had mentioned, something about a war, whatever that was, kept him close to mommy and his siblings, bumping his shoulder against mommy's left front leg. He would wait til mommy said it was safe before going off on his own.
And he had to make sure his siblings didn't get taken. Not without a fight from him, especially his sisters. He didn't want some bad male or female to come up and pounce on them, doing horrible things to them like taking them away from mommy. He wouldn't like it if that happened. Vassago and his brother would have to make sure their sisters would be okay here in this home. Vassago scrunched up his face trying to remember something else mommy and dad had mentioned when they had thought he and his littermates were sleeping.

 What was war?
Kureiji didn’t know, not really. He “fought” all the time with his siblings so he simply took the adults’ war as a rougher version of fighting. It wasn’t a scary concept and it certainly wasn’t a good enough cause for the fuss and alarm he saw around him as far as the young cub was concerned. He had food and siblings to play with and mom and dad and a pride. Life was good and the dark-eyed cub was happy.
Anyone watching the young lion as he pounced on his mother’s tail and rolled on his belly as he played with the tuft would most likely have believed Eiji lived in the most peaceful pride in the world where troubles never reached and the word “war” never even existed. Even if it wasn't true.

 Etain sat still against her mother's other front leg, her dark violet eyes watching and waiting, like her brother, she too wanted to go explore, to see what was out 'there' beyond the warmth of the den and the scent of her siblings, but mother and father had said it wasn't safe that this war creature was out there and that it was dangerous.
If it was dangerous it would have to be watched, watched and then learned about. Just like she learned about her siblings when she play fought with them, or when she learned about stalking with mother. If you learned about something, then it was less dangerous.
Because she needed to be able to go beyond the den, she had to see what else was out there. There was something she half..remembered...a scent that...she needed...to find...and it wasn't here. It wasn't here with mother, though sometimes mother smelled like it, a faint sweet smell...like a flower...

Yofiel looked down at her cubs with a soft smile. She loved them all so dearly. She had wanted cubs for so long and now here they were. And just after she got a mate too! They obviously were not from Etihad, but she did not care. Etihad seemed to love them anyway too. She was happy that Etihad loved the cubs she had given him. He had even given her MORE cubs by going out and having some elsewhere to bring back to her!
Her mate was wonderful. Her cubs were all perfect, and if it wasn't for the war in the pride everything would be exactly as she always wanted. The war in the pride gave everything a bit of a damper though. There were kidnappings of cubs happening. She did not want any of her babies to be taken, not her litter, not Etihad's. They were all hers and she wanted to keep them close.
Yofiel brought her cubs out of the den for a careful look around. They would not be out long because of the way of things. She kept a close eye on them as they got a look around the colony. She blinked at the feeling of something on her tail and looks behind herself. There was Kureiji on her tail, playing with the tuft. She chuckles and nuzzles his belly while he is laying there. "Silly, Kureiji, that is mommy's tail." Her voice showed that she was quite amused by him.

Haziel looked around the pride with bright eyes. She didn't quite get why momma and papa were so worried about her and her siblings. She did know that it had to be important though. She wished she could run and explore everything she saw, but momma was worried and wanted them to stay close, so she could not. Maybe she would get to another time.
She giggled at her brother playing with mother's tail and how mother was so loving and playful with him. Haziel wanted to be just like their mother when she grew up! She looked over at Vassago and took a moment to softly pounce his tail before going back to following their mother as if nothing had happened. She acted as innocent as could be. She made a face at Etain.

Sago pounced on Eiji before bumping Haziel's side to send her into Mommy's side, not to roughly. After all he did love his sisters. No matter what silliness they said or did. Falling back to Eiji, Sago started to pounce on his twitching tail.
"Mommy?" Sago asked, kind of distracted by Eiji's tail. "Where's Daddy? Can we go get him? Is the war going to go to bed soon and we can stay up later than the war so we can go explore at night?"

Eiji wiggled playfully – which was rather difficult from his current position – when his mother nuzzled him, smiling a furry grin until the long hairs of Yofiel’s tuft slid from his mouth.
“Oof!” The air left his lungs rapidly as he took in his brother’s pounce with little resistance and he watched as Vassago bumped into Haziel and proceeded to redirect his attention back to Eiji again. As soon as his brother’s tone indicated that he wasn’t completely focused on his current task, the dark-eyed cub jumped up and towards his brother with outstretched paws as he clearly attempted to give Vassago a thorny hug.
“Gotcha!” he whispered with a happy growl when he was about to touch Vassago.

Etain turned to look back behind her at the jumble of her brothers and sisters, returning the face made at her by Haziel. Then turned back to where her mother looked out across the distance.
She didn't think whatever this war thing was, it was going to bed anytime soon. It seemed more like it was going to disobey and not eat its gazelle, and really bite when it played. No, it wasn't a good thing, or an obedient thing, it was a bad thing and it wanted to hurt.
Etain turned to Sago, " I don't think it sleeps, I only think it eats Sago, and it scares me sometimes." Her voice was a soft whisper, meant for him.
Etain wasn't a playful cub, and she often seemed to be listening to something the others couldn't hear, but she spoke to Sago. " I like the flowers better Sago, maybe we should take mommy and daddy there? Ok?

Yofiel purred at her cubs and tried to answer their questions. "Daddy is doing his duty to the pride. He is a priest." She nuzzled Sago's face and licked the top of his head. "The war does not go to bed, and you would be tired long before it is gone." The lioness knew her cubs would not understand it for some time, she just hoped they also would not end up hurt by it. This war was getting messy.
Yofiel would die rather than let one of her and Etihad's cubs be taken. She did wonder a little bit about Etain being so different than the other cubs and herself even. Yofiel was always a playful and borderline silly lioness. Etain seemed a bit more like Tam, though. Yofiel wondered how much like Tam Etain would become. It would be a refreshing difference in the family.

Haziel trotted over to nuzzle her sister and took the time to poke Sago with a paw. "Everything will be okay... but I don't think we will be outside much. Momma seems worried." She wanted so badly to go out and explore, to go beyond her mother and see everything outside the den. But for now she kept herself by her siblings and mother.

Sago squirmed our from under his brother's hug, exaggerating how heavy Eiji was, making believe he was squished under his enormous weight. "Ugh! I'm going to die, crushed to death! Etain! Get Eiji off me!" He pleaded. "Or I'll never she the pretty flowers again! He's ... crush-ing ... meeee~ Etain, help!" Sago fell to the ground under Eiji, panting. Before he closed his eyes he peaked at his sisters. He didn't think Haziel would do anything but add her own weight to the dog pile, but Etain was serious too often, and Sago took it as his mission to make her smile and play. Or at the very least get Eiji to do whatever she told him to do. Somehow. And then he'd find a way to lead everyone over to the flowers for her.

Eiji laughed at his brother’s performance, his tail dancing playfully as Sago squirmed under his - admittedly not that heavy - body.
“You can’t ask Etain for help, that’s not fair!” It was doubly unfair, that’s what it was. It would be two-against-one with the added aggravation that Eiji would have to be much more careful so as to not hurt Etain because she was a girl. He wouldn’t even be able to use claws! The thought that his sister might not really be interested in joining in on the fun didn’t even occur to him and the cub wondered if perhaps he shouldn’t remove himself from his brother. Well, Eiji was many things but wise and cautious had never been his attributes and the young lion remained firmly in place, trying to gnaw at his brother’s ears.
