Anna was determined. She was going to do her acting class homework, and she was going to do it with flying colors. The glow-in-the-dark facepaint had given her an idea - Reapers didn't glow in the dark, but ghosts did. And ghosts were scary, right? The ghost ghoul she'd been paired with in class was definitely scary.
Obviously the solution was to pretend to not be a Reaper.
Thus inspired, Anna had put on her usual petticoats, but skewed them, putting on only one shoe, slumping one sock, 'forgetting' a glove. She smeared the glowy facepaint all over her face and watered the rest down, all ready. Then she picked a shadowy corner and waited for the next unfortunate person to walk by.
Her plan was simple: scare, fling glowy water, scream. Then apologize.
And then possibly run away really fast if the person got mad.

Muka was holding a slip of paper delicately in his taloned hands. He'd just found out he was cast in the school play and so now his single minded task was to be the best owl he could.
Of course he was already an owl so it wasn't much of a stretch.
The strix still was absorbed in reading over the paper, a list of notes to himself about the role, and he grinned and bobbled and shuffled through the slightly empty hallways. It was a free period for him and other classes were in session so it was a bit deserted and quiet in the hall. The only sound was his shuffling, the rustle of his wings and the dangerous clacks of his teeth as he was deep in thought.

There! Someone was coming! Anna took a deep breath, clutching the watered-down remains of the paint in both hands. Three... two... one...
"AAIEEEEEEEEE!!" Anna shrieked, flinging herself out of her hiding place and sloshing the glowing paint out of the pot in her hands, as hard as she could. With her disheveled clothing, face covered in glowing paint (and her hands and clothing also stained with it), she could only hope that she looked like a really really scary ghost. "EEEEEEEEEEYAAAAaaaaah ohjackI'msorry!!"

Muka jolted when a glowing thing materialized in front of him and splattered him with it's ectoplasmic goo. The watery 'goo' had sprayed all over the front of his impeccably pressed pinstriped pants and vest and it was screaming in an unearthly howl. The strix let out his own cry of surprise, a screeching "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" accompanied by a hiss and his wings immediately shot out around him in a natural, animalistic response. It was only then, standing there fluffed out and staring at the 'ghost' did he realize it was apologizing and was actually a ghoul wearing paint. His head tiled to the side curiously, his eyes blinked unevenly, and his wings slooooowly resettled. And then he started to laugh. It was a raucous cackle and the strix could barely control himself. "You... YOU GOT ME!" he screeched.

"Aaaah!" Anna yelped as her target screamed right back, suddenly growing larger - oh jack oh jack she'd scared something scarier than she was by about a hundred times!! She held the tiny paint pot out in front of her like a miniscule, ridiculous shield. As if that would help- ... Wait. Wait. He was laughing? He... She got him? "I-I-I did? D-did I really scare you? Um, please don't hurt me, it was for homework," she added, staring at him.

Muka was laughing a bit out of control. He held his finger up and turned his back to her when he started to hack. He made some awful noises but eventually calmed back down and turned around, wracked with giggles still. "You got me! Hee and my poor pants!" The strix snickered. "I had the homework too!" Of course his scaring method had been a bit meaner and deliberate. "I would say you passed!" His head bobbled on his shoulders. "What's your name? Mine is Ulmuka!" He held out a taloned hand for hers.

"Your... your pants! Oh... oh no." A look of horror dawned as she realized the paint was still on him. That it could quite possibly stain the fabric permanently. She hadn't even thought of that... "I'm so sorry!! I, um, I can try and... see if I can get the stains out..."... He didn't seem too bothered by it, though? Somehow? She took his hand cautiously, as if she didn't entirely trust him not to exact vengeance for his pants. "I-I'm Anna.... you really don't mind? I, um, didn't do very well in the class exercise, so I wanted to make sure I really... really scared someone good for the homework..."

"No problem!" Muka waved his taloned fingers dismissively. He actually was a bit upset over his pants but his face just didn't show it. "I have more pants." The idea that it was his only pair made him giggle again. "Is it for Mr. Rengath?" The strix's head bobbled curiously on his shoulders. "I would say you did well. I will confess to it if I am ever asked!" He placed a hand on his chest and took a slight bow. "My name is Ulmuka by the way." His grin widened and his eyes blinked at different moments. He offered his hand for her. If she extended it back to him she'd find it swept up to his vicious looking mouth where he snapped his teeth just above the skin. As a bird, he often had trouble remembering things like 'lips'.

"Y-yes! Yes, for Professor Rengath's acting class. It's the first class I've ever taken here, and I did so awful in the classroom exercise..." Her cheeks turned a little red, but she didn't look down or away as she might have only a week before. "I said boo. It was awful. So I wanted to really work hard on the homework... but you've got all those lovely teeth, and.."She held her hand out in response to his gesture, then jumped as he demonstrated the 'lovely' teeth. "Y-yes, I'm sure you have no problem with s-scaring people with those!!"iloveyouDIE holy s**t this is the latest tag D:

"Don't you fret." Muka grinned and patted her hand when she flinched, hoping to soothe her. "I think you did well and feel free to embellish your homework essay if you'd like. I don't mind!" Muka released her hand and tucked his own closely against his body. "Oh my teeth.. Do they frighten you? I am sorry.. I am still unused to this humanoid body. I don't have much practice." He then decided it was a good time to flex and test his lips. He looked odd, making strange faces and covered in paint in the middle of the hall.

"Thank you... and no, not frightened, just... just startled, I guess?" Anna had to admire how creepy the faces Ulmuka was making were. He could probably just walk around the corner and scare someone without any preparation whatsoever. "Oh, you have a different, um, shape usually?" Monsters often did, she remembered. There had been something in the Amityville pamphlet about students having to assume a human form for classes...

"Oh yes.." Muka's head bobbled with a grin. "Would you like to see?" His head turned around, scoping the halls for a teacher or any other figure of authority. He knew he was supposed to look like a boil when indoors though the rules on particular locations weren't clear to him. Once he was sure the coast was clear the boil started to shift. It was painful sounding, like bones scraping and popping apart and muscles stretching and shifting. It wasn't a smooth process and part of his changed faster than others. At some point he was an owl body with a boil's head and then with a shake of effort, a 6' tall owl stood in his place. His large taloned feet clicked on the stone floor and the beak cracked, "See?" The voice was more animalistic but it was clearly Ulmuka. "You don't change?" She looked like a reaper, which would explain it, but you never knew until you asked!

"Oooh..." Anna stared at Ulmuka in horrified fascination as he shifted from one form to another. "Does it hurt?! It sounds like it kind of maybe did hurt a little but... wow, I've never seen an owl as big as you! No wonder you're so good at scaring," she added, a little wistfully. "And oh, no, I don't - I'm a Reaper, so... yeah." She scuffed at the floor with one foot.

"No it doesn't hurt much." Nothing more than a normal person would have a muscle ache or a bit of fatigue from FEAR use. Transforming was a part of his species and though he hadn't mastered it, he was getting used to it. "I'm sorry I am not very scary like this." The cracked beak issued words along with a hissing giggle. Besides being large he did look very much like a normal, fluffy and plump owl. "I should get scarier as I get older!" He sounded excited about that. "What is your weapon?" The owl's head tilted curiously. It wasn't dawning on him that she may have a familiar.

"Not scary?! If I came around the corner and there was a huuuuuuge owl there, I'd be scared! Or, um, at least a little startled. For a little while." She did have some pride, after all. "And oh, um... I don't... have a weapon. I have a familiar, though." Anna sighed. At least with a weapon you could look threatening, which was kind of like being scary. "He's probably on my bed, sleeping. Um. Do you know what an Incubator is? Makes... contracts?" She wasn't going to bring up the frilly dresses, given how Roch had reacted.
