xxxxxFog danced in ghostly shapes in the mid-evening, curling around trees and sliding gently along the grass. A fine layer of dew had settled upon everything - even Soren by now. Thunder rolled in the distance, a foreboding growl like that of a monstrous beast; lighting licked restlessly at the sky, flickering illumination cast down from the tumultuous heavens with his spasmodic bid for freedom. The sky itself was grey and brooding, clouds and fog obscuring the periwinkle clear skies. Beneath this mask of chaos, the forest waited, sitting in taut preparation for the coming storm. Everything hung in a tense lull of movement - even the birds sat silent in their nests, the paths and coves of the forest oddly deserted. Desolation slunk as if a tangible entity through the forest. It was one of those times when it was impossible to feel like you were not alone.

xxxxxSoren's golden eyes darted around through the shrouds of fog, hoping to catch a glimpse of someone - anyone - to spend the evening with. Being sociable left him feeling almost helpless while he wandered alone in the gloom. Even he didn't know what had dragged him into the forest on a day like this, but it seemed appropriate at the time. Even now, he failed to regret it. Soren held his head high as he picked his way almost silently over fallen branches and piles of old leaves. If there was one thing he had learned from his mother, it was to always stand tall and proud. With his ears flicking from side to side, he stepped into a slow trot. While it may not have been the best idea to speed through a forest with almost no visibility, he failed to care. In an attempt to draw attention to where he was, he let out a low whinny, loud enough for anyone nearby to hear.

OOC | I think I am ADD because I have no idea what half of this is about and I was focusing on Jasey Rae. BUT HEY. It is a starting post. You get what you get, Rue.

xxxxxLarge storm clouds brewed malevolently overhead the viridian forest, the wind picking up slightly as the heavens darkened. Moistness hung in the air like an unwanted friend, clinging to anything it could take hold of. This most certainly did not exclude the mare picking her way indaintily over the fallen branches and mass of shrubbery crowding the forest floor. Shaking her wings out, Kintori snarled slightly, knowing this dew was currently rendering her mane to a devastating state. What possessed her to enter the forest even after she observed all the signs of an eventual storm, she would never know. The overwhelmingly self-absorbed mare loved nothing more than up-keeping her already shimmering appearance; this bout of adventurousness was turning into an absolute nightmare for her.

xxxxxRealizing something seemed a bit off, Kintori slowed her fast walk to a stop, pricking her ears. The normally populous woodland was abnormally and eerily quiet, regardless of the coming to fruition overhead. She spotted neither a songbird nor a mouse to speak of, and found herself puzzled as to why the forest was so empty. Abruptly, this bizarre silence came to an end as the distant sound of stomping hooves approached, accompanied by the whinny of what was sure to be a stallion. Stallion. Kintori's focus abandoned thoughts of the dew and approaching rain in favor of those of strong, broad stallions with the heart of a gentleman. Although her and Helberd were linked by baskets that had already grown to adulthood, Kintori always found herself pleased by the accompaniment of a handsome stallion. Never would she turn down the chance to receive adoring acclamation from those who also found her to be beautiful. Due to this, Kintori was compelled to respond to the stallion's low whinny with a much higher, albeit softer, one of her own. 'Let the games begin.'

xxxxxSoren's sides heaved slightly from only the minor trotting that he had done. The fog around him filled his lungs and left him almost powerless in its grip. His head bowed slightly as he waited to hear the call of a nearby Soquili and gray-tipped ears stretched as far as they could, straining with all their might for any indication of another being. It didn't take long for his call to be answered. His own husky whinny was answered by one that was much higher in tone. A call that obviously belonged to a mare. Soren pulled his head up to full height and immediately began to amble over toward her general direction. What would a mare be doing out in the forest alone on a day like this? Questions ran through his mind in rapid succession, each never being fully answered before moving onto the next. His lithe body moved slowly, aware of the fact that he could easily end up running into the poor mare with this bad visibility. His golden eyes had no trouble spotting her, though. In the foggy area, her gold-tinted coat stuck out like a sore hoof.

xxxxxHe stopped mid-stride, placing his hooves down into a solid position before bending his head down into a bow. To be put simply, Soren was always chivalrous and respectful. "Hello, miss." Only once he spoke to her did he take in her entire appearance. She was white as snow with fabulous golden tints to her wings and body. Mares like her were the ones which made Soren stop in his tracks and do a double-take. Cracking a smile, he tossed his head up higher. "What is a mare like you doing here on such a day?" He sounded oddly formal, as he always did. The stallion was truly intrigued by this pretty mare. He probably looked much more ragged than she did. Though it was a terrible day, her mane remained in tact and her coat was still a shimmering white. She carried around with her an air of confidence, which was enough to drive him wild.

xxxxxAn immediate reaction to Kintori's call was noticed - before her whinny was finished she heart the footfall begin again, albeit a tad softer this time, as if the owner of the hooves was being careful about their placement. As the stranger came into view, Kintori shook her mane out a bit and flicked her tail, hoping to rid them of any stray leaves or branches picked up in the fight through the woodland. His assessment of her figure and coat did not go unnoticed - he wasn't being rude or concealing it in any way, a thought that made Kintori smile. A quick glance at the stallion told her all she needed to know - he was a handsome wind. Fluttering her eyelids demurely, she snickered a bit at his acclamation. "A mare like me? Heavens, what's that supposed to imply?" She playfully teased him, knowing full-well no stallion would ever dare insult her.

xxxxxAfter she responded to his comment, Kintori found herself looking into his eyes. They were a brilliant shade of gold, whereas hers were a variant of silver. The stallion opposite her possessed a very curly, slightly entangled mane, presumably the fault of the approaching rain. Though his coat boasted few colors, Kintori spotted among them her favorite, gold. It was sparse throughout his fur, but its presence was enough to bring a glint upon her eyes. He also had large wings like those of the birds of prey she often saw maneuvering through the skies. Recalling the inauspicious weather, Kintori glances upward, shaking her forelock out of her eyes. A bolt of lightning struck the sky as a roll of thunder sounded. She found her gold-tipped wings trembling slightly at the thought of what the fast-approaching storm would do to her previously stunning mane. Turning her attention back to the stallion, she flicked her tail. "I certainly hope you're not afraid of a smidgen of rain. A pretty-boy stallion like yourself mustn't fare well during a storm!" Kintori batted her eyelashes heavily whilst smiling softly, enjoying her own jocular tone.

xxxxxSlowly but surely, Soren began to understand the ways of this mare. She was sure of herself, alright. It seemed as though he had run into one of those mares who knew she was beautiful and used it to her advantage. Of course, the thought didn't cross his mind that she might be teasing him or using him for her own enjoyment. He took in her words with quiet interest, enjoying her company on the dreary day. "I - forgive me for being so forward, miss, but I mean a mare as pretty as you. It isn't every day that I happen upon a mare in the forest, let alone..." Soren trailed off, hoping she would pick up what he was saying. He was not one to call a mare beautiful upon their first meeting. He found himself being bashful, as he tended to be around mares who captivated him. He looked her in the eyes, watching carefully as her expression changed. Her own observation of him was quite obvious. She seemed to be in favor of his gold coloring, which was unsurprising.

xxxxxSoren's head cocked to the left as she glanced to the sky. His ears flicked back slightly, then strained forward to hear her over the sudden clap of thunder. He quickly flicked them back in dissatisfaction as he heard her comment. Did he come off as a pretty-boy stallion? He almost let out a 'hmph' of confusion, but managed to keep himself composed. "I happen to love the rain, miss. I wouldn't be out today otherwise! I certainly hope you're not afraid. Do you happen to be accompanied by anyone?" He asked her simply because he didn't want to be keeping anyone waiting due to him wasting her valuable time. Then, as a subtle afterthought, he gathered himself and raised his voice in confidence. "What may I call you, miss? Surely you have a name as pretty as you." He smiled playfully at her, lowering his head a bit so he was closer to her own height.

xxxxxKintori stood tall, watching his eyes as he appraised the personality shining through her words. He seemed to be enjoying her slightly caustic yet agreeable tone. Tori watched, eyes glinting, as the stallion stumbled through a very rushed explanation of his previous word choice. She'd known what he meant, of course - she'd only been jesting, but seeing that the stallion opposite her rushed to defend himself and proclaim her beauty was nothing she would ever oppose. Her laugh, a melodious tinkling sound, rung throughout the forest quietly. "Let alone one as beautiful as myself?" She finished his sentence only minutely joking, knowing full-well of her radiant appearance. Kintori noticed at a young age the way her coat seemed to glow - the way she made colts silly and ogling. This blatant adoration combined with extremely loving and doting parents led to one atrociously self-absorbed mare - albeit, a beautiful one.

xxxxxCurling her tail, Kintori tilted her head, amusement dancing in her eyes. "Are you accompanied by anyone?" Though she knew he was asking whether or not she was presently to be with someone, she couldn't help but to muse at other meanings implied by such a question. Before she could answer, he continued with another question paired with yet another compliment. He was adoring her, and she thrived in this sort of situation. Taking note of his raise in tone, Kintori responded, "You may call me Kintori. I..." she looked about theatrically, "believe you're the only one about to be accompanying me..." Trailing off, Kintori raised her head slightly in question - proposing the asking of his name without really saying so. After all, she didn't have to actually ask to get what she wanted. She was Kintori, after all.

xxxxxThat fact that Kintori was beautiful could not be denied. Her demeanor and general way of being expressed to him that she was quite a handful. Rather than responding to her knowing question, he just lowered his gaze for a brief moment. In a subtle attempt to relax, Soren shifted his weight so that one of his hind legs could prop - one of the more obvious signs of him not being uncomfortable in the slightest. It was highly unusual for him to ever feel awkward around others. He had one of those personalities that made him seem comfortable and friendly in any situation. As he found himself lost in thought, the wind picked up a bit. Fog rolled about them in odd little swirls and patterns, mesmerizing him in one of the simplest ways possible. Soren often found himself lost in the simple things. Everything about the world around him was something more for him to learn about.

xxxxxA smile crawled up onto his face as he heard her name. Her voice was like bells - soft and mesmerizing. "I go by Soren," he said softly. Thunder cracked loudly overhead, causing his ears to pin back as a natural flight reaction. "Would you like to find a good place to settle down for a bit, miss Kintori? I think it would be in our best interests to get out of this mess." Soren took a step toward her, trying to nudge her into moving for her own safety. It was bred into him to be assertive, though he presented it much more subtly. He would never outright tell her that she needed to get to safety, yet he would suggest it with everything he had. He didn't want her growing cold from being soaking wet as night approached and, from his assumptions, it seemed that she would want to preserve her mane and tail.

xxxxxUnsurprisingly, a drop of rain splattered down onto his muzzle as he motioned for the mare to head for cover. His immediate reaction was to throw his head into the air and back down in a bobbing motion. He didn't doubt that he looked absolutely humorous to her. Almost as an afterthought to his previous statement, he added, "I mean, I highly doubt you would want to stay out here and let the rain ruin your coat!" Playfulness was dancing about in his eyes, telling her clearly that he was joking.

xxxxxSurprisingly, Kintori found herself enjoying the company of the male. Soren. She was typically very bored with others - they either found her confidence off-putting or refused to joke around with her. Those encounters left her feeling unfulfilled and bored, questioning as to why others weren't as grand as she. But those like Soren left her happier than ever, having had a pleasant, playful encounter. Suddenly she realized that she was very thankful for these type of Soquili - those that made her happy and hopeful. Feeling the wind picked up, Kintori thrashed her tail about impatiently. She'd been waiting for him to suggest getting out of the way of the rain - now that he did she wished to gallop out of it and find a cave or some other natural land form under which to take shelter.

xxxxx"Yes, yes, yes!" she exclaimed excitedly and hurriedly, wishing he'd just take off already so that she could follow. She could feel droplets leaking from the sky onto her coat, wings, head. Her ears swiveled about as more thunder rolled in the near distance, signaling the approaching onslaught. They didn't have much time. "Lead the way, Sir Soren!" She giggled a bit, despite the stress she was feeling by the increase in moisture on her coat. Of course, he'd decided to point her worries out and she laughed once more - she was a very fascinating mare, but many saw her as predictable; something she'd challenge to her death, but not at a time like this. She fluttered her wings, shaking more droplets out of them as the drizzle began to increase to a light rain. They had to get out of there fast.

xxxxxThe sense of urgency the mare was feeling passed over him. Whether she was simply worried about her coat or scared of the storm, he didn't know. Soren wasn't about to let her down, though. A quick map of the area passed through his head. The mountains met the forest nearby and if they could make a run for it, they could probably find a cave to settle down in. He moved closer to her and angled his body to shield her as best as he could from the rain that fell in massive drops and promptly took off at a quick walk. He only glanced behind him at Kintori for a moment before rearing back into a canter, hoping she would get the hint and keep up with him. His large body found its way gracefully around the trees and wet foliage on the ground. Soren found himself pondering what force had pushed them into meeting. It was an odd coincidence considering the circumstances.

xxxxxSomething caught his eye as he moved - a dark cave of rock molded into the rocky outcropping in front of them. "There! Only a bit more and we'll be dry." His golden eyes didn't bother to search for her - Kintori's enthusiasm told him that she would be with him every step of the way there. The sound of his hooves hitting stone snapped him out of his thoughts, dragging him back into reality. The rain had stopped hitting him from the cover of the cave, prompting him to stretch out his wings and shake off in a way that a wet dog would. "Is this better for you? I know a cave isn't the most favorable place to be but it will be good to wait out the storm." The cave was hardly small - it was spacious enough for both of them to have room to stretch out and walk about without issue. And with both of them hunkered down in it, it would not feel cold whatsoever.

xxxxxSeeing Soren begin to move, Kintori surged with appreciation for the stallion. His sure footfalls reassured her that he knew where he was going; something Kintori herself would've had trouble with had she been solo. She walked next to him with equal confidence, though she was unsure where they were headed. When he pressed himself into her protectively, Tori felt her skin grow hot. Although she was big on flirtations and compliments, she never really touched others. Typically she forbade others from touching her, out of fear they would mess with her perfection. The only stallion she'd ever let in was Helberd, the father of her baskets, whom she'd never gotten to see grow up. Helberd and Kintori tended to roam a lot, never together. The mare frowned at the thought of her baskets, sad in realizing she had no idea what they'd grown to be. Her life was spent so absorbed within herself that she'd never really thought of them.

xxxxxSoren sped up to a canter, allowing Kintori to shake her mind free of worry, tuck her wings in, and follow. Soon enough a cave perfect for staving off the worst of the storm came into view. He said something over the rain that she could barely make out, as the heavens had decided previously that the storm was to be a massive, torrential downpour. Soren made it into the cave ahead of her, safe from the storm only seconds before she was. Once in, Kintori made a sound that was a combination of a sigh of relief and a tired huff. Extending her wings, she shook them free of moisture before shaking out her coat and nodding. "This works very well! Thank you, Soren." She smiled warmly at him, then averted her gaze to wondering at the size of the cave. "You honestly couldn't have picked a better place!" Although she was still damp and the camp itself was no fire, Kintori could already feel herself warming up.

xxxxxSoren found himself drifting off into thought as they grew accustomed to their new surroundings. He couldn't help but wonder how different his life would be if he had someone to share it with. A brother, a sister, a mate, a friend... Nothing was left around to keep him chained to one spot, like he needed to be. He wandered here and there and never managed to stay in one spot for long. It was lonely at times. He would get close to others, but not close enough to stick around with them. It seemed like nothing could really chain him to one spot. He had always wanted to know what it was like to stay with someone else. The lovely mare he was with had probably had her share of time with another. The most beautiful of mares were always taken. It was the circle of life, so to speak. Slowly dropping out of his thoughts, he couldn't help but wonder what her life was like. Who was in it and what she had been through. He wasn't so bold as to ask immediately, yet he figured he would get around to it. Sometime.

xxxxxSoren turned to face Kintori and moved closer to her, simply for the warmth she put off. "Where are you from, Kintori? And why would you ever be out on such a day?" He smiled at her, hoping desperately that she wouldn't notice how much trouble he had with not calling her 'miss' Kintori. He was always formal, which he realized could make him seem a bit antisocial. A cloud of worry appeared in his eyes as he looked at her damp coat. "Are you warm enough? If you get cold, you can always stand against me." He realized, after he said it, that that could come off as an inappropriate suggestion. He could feel himself getting shy and he attempted to stammer out another comment, yet cut himself off for fear of sounding even more like a dolt. He had her well-being in mind and nothing more. A pretty mare pressed up against him wasn't something he would really complain about, though.
PostPosted: Sun Dec 11, 2011 11:00 am

xxxxxIt wasn't tough to see the wheels working in Soren's brain. Kintori herself attempted to focus on the rapid pat-pat of the rain against the cave's rocky face. She wanted to avoid the train of thought she'd gone down nostalgically only minutes ago, as she knew that any further contemplation on the subject would leave her feeling guilty for abandoning Helberd and the baskets. Pat-pat-pat-pat. Kintori began twitching the tuft of her tail in a soft rhythm, mimicking that of the rain droplets. The storm has obviously picked up since they'd gotten inside; thunder rolled and lightning flickered contemptuously, relentlessly. Although the onslaught outside barraged them with sound, Kintori still managed to hear Soren's soft voice across the cave. The first question caught her off guard and she felt herself sigh softly.

xxxxx"For some strange, supernatural reason I was in a very... adventurous mood. I don't have those kind of kicks often, so I decided to follow it." Kintori decided to save his first question for last, as she still needed to contemplate a response. At his next statement, the mare blushed a bit and giggled. "Soren, I thought yourself a gentleman! What kind of a mare do you take me for?" She watched as his lips moved but nothing came out, and she smiled. He was a very bashful stallion - she'd yet to meet someone like him. Always it was the confident, overly flirtatious stallions - never the shy ones that barely muttered a word more than a compliment. It was a very new situation to Kintori, and she found herself liking it. Another sigh escaped the mare's lips as she returned to his original question. "Shimshek and Taiyaun, technically. M'parents. Other than that, my life's just been a sort of... blur. I don't really recall much, really." Once again she flicked her ears forward, listing to the pat-pat of the rain.

xxxxxSoren's soft golden eyes watched Kintori with quiet interest. He could tell from the way she looked that he may have been too bold with his questions. He tended to be rather random with his inquiries, yet she hardly seemed to mind. He smirked as she spoke of adventure. There was nothing he loved more! Life was an adventure and he intended to follow it out as long as he possibly could. As she spoke once more, he immediately thought that he was going to be scolded for asking such a bold question. Yet, she was simply playing. "I have my ways of surprising people! You know that I don't think badly of you," he muttered softly. What kind of mare did he take her for? A confident one, to say the least. But he definitely did not think that she was a mare of negotiable virtue.

xxxxxHe bobbed his head in a nod as she spoke the names of her parents. Soren couldn't help but chuckle slightly at the fact that she was a smart alek. "I don't recall much, either." He flicked his hears back and forward, enjoying the rain and the echos throughout the cave. "My parents had three kids, me being one of them. I don't think they had any baskets before us. None that I knew of, anyway. Once we grew old enough to wander around on our own, they took off to find a better place to grow old together at. My brother died a while back, I think. He was caught up in a bunch of trouble and a Kalona just... Yeah. My sister wanders around here and there, a lot like I do." He nodded, feeling himself grow happy as he thought of her. It took him a moment to realize she hadn't exactly asked him to summarize his background, but he took the initiative anyway. "Do you live in any place in particular?" He cocked his head and, as he did so, his forelock fell in front of his eyes. His curly mane never failed to bother him.
PostPosted: Sun Dec 11, 2011 4:24 pm

xxxxxThough she could feel Soren's eyes on her, Kintori stared out towards the entrance of the cave, watching the rainfall from the safety and comfort of their shelter. Her eyes twitched, swiveling towards the sound of his voice as he spoke. She listened intently, not peeling her eyes from the rapid rainfall. She nodded, a soft smile spreading across her lips. The bold nature of this stallion was unexpected upon their first moment of meeting; already he'd thrown compliments her way relentlessly. It seemed the stallion either had a thing for Kintori, or a way of concealing his true flirtatious personality with that of a gentler, more innocent boy.

xxxxxKintori's eyes flashed to him as he started speaking of his family. She'd never had imagined it, but she was finding herself quite interested in her story. Not because she would never believe she'd find him interesting; he was a strange, gentle stallion and found him absolutely intriguing, but never before had she really been interested in family. Now... she wasn't so sure. "Interesting. I have... five siblings, I think. I haven't seen them much." She shook her head slightly, giggling at his unruly forelock. "Not really. I tend to... wander a lot, I suppose." At the moment, she was contemplating whether or not to go back to find Helberd. It was the right thing to do, wasn't it? He was her mate (she thought) and she had kids! She couldn't just leave it all unfinished. But she had never really planned on the basket with him. And was he her mate? All this talk was leading her thoughts astray, to guilt-ridden areas. Kintori shook her head vigorously, trying to make it all go away, but in vain.

xxxxxA soft sigh escaped Soren's maw, showing signs of him being tired. He had wandered quite a lot that day, yet he was hardly exhausted. Sharing a cave with a pretty mare entitled him to stay up all night on watch duty so she could sleep peacefully, anyway. He didn't mind one bit. His eyes widened a bit when she spoke of her siblings. He could barely handle the one he still had while she was dealing with five. Whether she saw them much or not, that was quite a handful! Her giggle caused his cheeks to grow hot and he flicked his forelock from his eyes. He usually failed to care much for his appearance because he never really got that dirty. "Not everyone can look great after being in the rain!" He grinned at her and winked shyly, his confidence growing. She was fun-loving, yet looked to be contemplating something much deeper. And it was then he realized, her outward appearance was probably not a mirror of how she felt internally.

xxxxxIt was when her eyes grew sad and distant that he realized she really was confused and unhappy. "Are you alright? If there's anything I can do..." His voice trailed off. Maybe all she needed was a distraction from the everyday stuff. From the thoughts that haunted her mind. "I wander a lot, as well. I never stay in one place for long. I think it will change once I find a mate and start a family. Until then, I don't have anything to keep me around." Soren paused, nodding his head. He honestly didn't know what else he could speak about to distract her. "I think I might stay around the forest for a while longer. It seems that the best of things happen around here." He smiled softly, thinking about how he was enjoying her company. Of course, he doubted he would see her again once the storm passed. He could only be so lucky. But he was going to try his best to keep her around.
