"You have ruined my life." The house was covered in dust, boxes were piled up everywhere. His Maternal figure, Rene, ignored him for the most part as Wayne rhasped and whined. The Seraph waddled to the kitchen and promptly threw a package of Cheese slices at his head.
"There. To go with your Whine." She rhasped back. "Get over it. What's done is done."
"What's done is done? I've been gone for months, didn't even get to send out a message before you and yours spirited me away to that place-"
"Family comes first." Rene worked on unpacking the latest groceries. Wayne continue to gripe.
"Do we at least have a phone? I want to call Lule. See if she even cares about me, given that I just disapeared."
"Cry some more." Rene advised, tossing her phone at him. Wayne made a face at her and hastily dialed the number he had for Lule. Was it even active anymore?

It was indeed active. Lule would be lost without her cell phone after all. It started to ring and without looking up from her book, Lule reached across the bed, patting around for the phone until she had it. She managed to tear her eyes away from the book just for a moment to look at the number. "Hm." It wasn't one she recognized, but she answered anyway.
"Hello?"

"Lule?!" Wayne's typically low rasp squeaked high. He gripped the phone tighter. Rene snorted and continued putting food in the fridge. "It's... It's Wayne. I doubt you're happy to hear from me, but I... I got called away for family stuff."
The 'Family Stuff' was accompanied by a glare at Rene. His mother drank from the milk carton and casually flipped him the bird.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
"You're begging. That's adorable."
"Shut up, Mother!"

Lule sat up when the caller said he was Wayne, nearly dropping her book. She opened her mouth to say something, but nothing would come out. It couldn't be Wayne. He'd been gone for so long, she was sure he'd forgotten about her anyway.
Her fingers tightened their grip around the phone, and finally she managed to say something, her voice low. "Gideon, I swear to God, if this is you I will strangle you with your pocket watch." She wanted it to be Wayne so bad, but it was so much more likely it was her brother teasing her. She couldn't let him know how much it bothered her.

"Lule, it's me, I promise." Wayne's words were rushed and his face was flushed. The normally cool and brooding young man was nearly babbling. He glared at Rene (And Zach too, the little b*****d had walked in and was staring at him) before skittering to the bathroom. He locked himself in, climbed into the shower and sat. He even drew the curtian as if that would somehow give him more privacy. It did make the room seem more like a cave. This was comforting.
"I know you don't want to hear my voice. I didn't call or write." Not that it was his fault, the angry teenager in him screamed. It didn't matter. She was likely hurt. "Just... I just wanted to hear your voice. I wanted to make sure you're okay."
His words sounded pained. Wayne cared for Lule, more than he though he could care for someone outside of his family. He'd worried about her constantly. What if she'd been hurt while he was gone?

"Wayne..." She still didn't quite believe it. She got to her feet and padded down the hall to Gideon's room, leaning against the closed door to make sure he was in there, too preoccupied to call her. He sounded like he was playing a video game. That was good enough for her.
But still, it'd been so long. So so long. A voice inside her head screamed why. Why had Wayne left? Why hadn't he called or wrote? Why was he calling her now? She'd been starting to think it was time to move on. She couldn't keep pining over someone that had seemingly disappeared, right?
She closed her eyes tight. "Why...?" It was the only syllable she could get out.

Just the sound of her voice broke his heart a little more. He thunked his head against the side of the wall, his ears flopped down. Ugh. "It's.... It was a family matter. I got called away suddenly. We all just got back." His voice was still scratchy and hoarse.
"We were away, and I worried about you every day. I'm sorry, Lule." No one made Wayne act like this. No one but Lule could get him to grovel. "Please. You're all right? You're not hurt?"

She shook her head, even though he couldn't see it. She was fine. Other than having a broken heart, that is. She sat back down on the bed, looking down at the floor. "I'm okay, Wayne." She bit her lip. "Why... why didn't you call? I thought you were gone..."

Wayne exhaled deeply and tucked his knees up to his chest. "I... I'm sorry. We were far away. I was far away. I'm sorry if I've hurt you by calling. I know you've probably moved on." He forced the words out, though they hurt. He let out a shaky exhale and closed his eyes tighter.
"I understand. I really do. I just... I just wanted to make sure you were all right. I'll go."

Lule tucked her hair away from her face. She wanted to tell him she had indeed moved on. He'd left her, after all, disappeared without a trace. She should be stronger and tell him he shouldn't contact her anymore, but she can't. She knows Gideon will call her a fool, but she can't help it. He wouldn't understand.
"No," she murmured, her grip tightening on the phone. "You--you just got back. Please don't go again." Please don't leave me again.
"I'd like to see you... Can I see you?"

Wayne gave a large, shaky sigh and loudly thunked his head against the wall. Thank God she was at least willing to see him. He pressed his face against his knees and said a little prayer of graditude.
"I won't leave." He promised, sounding sure of himself. Hell, he'd take Lule with him next time if he had to. "Of course you can see me. You can come over.... Or... Or we could meet somewhere else." His voice sounded faint for a moment. Yeah. He didn't want to subject anyone to his family right now. Right now things were far too fragile to have either of those two muck things up.

Her brow furrowed a little bit at the noise in the background, but she doesn't ask what's going on. She just wants to see him. Her stomach does a little somersault. "Um. Okay. What about the coffee shop around the corner from the gym?" It wasn't far from her house to there. She wasn't sure how far away it was from Wayne's though.

"Of course! I'll be there." Wayne sounded eager. "I just... I'm terrible looking right now. Let me take a shower and I'll be there, okay? I'll be there." He spoke the last words forcefully as he stood up, steping out of the shower and starting to strip off his travel clothes.
"I promise. Just give me like a half hour. I'll be there for you, Lule."

"Okay," she says softly. She doesn't want to hang up the phone, afraid that if she does, she'd lose him again. She's terrified about putting her trust in him, but she just has to. She'd never forgive herself if she didn't at least try.
"Okay, Wayne." Half an hour and she would see him again.

"I'll be there, Lule." His voice went low and warm as he paused with one clawed hand on the side of the shower. "I'll be there. See you soon." He hung up rather abruptly, not trusting himself further.
After what was likely the quickest shower known to man, Wayne was found jogging to the coffee shop. He stepped inside and looked about for Lule, frowning when she didn't magically appear. He busied himself standing in line for coffee that he did desperately need.
The bat was... Different looking than he'd been before he'd left. He looked broader, more muscled. Wayne had been somewhat lithe before, now he was thicker. His hair was longer and in need of a cut. Wayne's pretty face was thinner, the angles more pronounced. He looked to be getting a the start of crows feet. Add that to the general abrasions, cuts, and bruises and it was easy to see that Wayne had been off doing something unplesant.
"Yeah... I need a large espresso thing... As large as you can drink it. A quad? Sure. Extra sugar. Lots of extra sugar."
