Buzz.

Robert woke up to a text that, despite it's sender, was clearly for a mission. He got up and rubbed his neck, stretching to start getting ready.

Buzz.

"The ********.." Robert picked up his phone again after he'd started undressing for the shower, and stared at what it said. Then he almost dropped his phone and swiveled around, twice, looking for cameras.

"CLARICE I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU'RE RECORDING ME YOU KINKY b***h.."

Buzz.

He half expected this next text to be a response to his paranoid yelling. Instead, it mystified him even further. He growled, put down his phone, and turned on the shower.

Buzz.

"GODDAMNIT b***h-" Robert flipped his phone open and stared at it, his face transforming from lively rage to confusion and paranoia. This time, it did seem like she was responding to him.

Robert entered the shower wearing a towel around his lower body, today. He was taking no chances.

A message from Clarice. Reine was excited- see, this felt so much more official and somehow important than Marcus' random message inviting her out for a spar. It meant a mission. And from what she'd heard, missions from Clarice were.. more pleasant than missions from Caelius.

So that was a good thing. Even if this was close to midnight, she'd snuck in a nap in the afternoon, which probably meant she'd be fine for a few more hours? Not that she usually slept anytime before 3am, at least...

Stretching out on her bed, Reine put the book she'd been reading on the nightstand, then threw her jacket on. She'd have enough time to leisurely stroll to the global portal room, probably, so there wasn't too much of a rush. Did this have, by any chance, something to do with the horseman they'd seen a while ago?

How curious.

Robert arrived at the portal room at 2:23pm, fully dressed, and squeaky clean.

But he was watching you, Clarice. Always watching.

Unfortunately, because his player can't read, he stood there waiting for nine hours, because the meeting was at 11:30pm, not 2:30pm.

Clarice and anyone else arriving would find him on the floor, asleep. And drooling.

Reine arrived at approximately 5 minutes to 11- safe. She glanced at the wall clock just to be sure, again.. and only then noticed the presence of a very familiar person.

Frowning, she walked over and prodded him with her boot, figuring it was the best course of action, considering she couldn't possibly lift him up. Nor did she want to... he was drooling. Grosssss.

"Hey, Robert. Wake up, dude. We have a mission."

"NO I DIDN'T TAKE ALL THE COOK- the ********.." Robert had woken up with a start, screaming, and immediately wiped the drool off his face as he looked up at Reine. "What happened? Did we finish the mission? Did we win?"

Yes, Robert. You won all of the missions. In bed.

She dropped to her knees in front of him, trying her best to look distraught.

"It's over, Robert. It's over. They got us. Clarice told me to come here.. she said you'd be waiting." With a wail, she threw herself at him, pretend-sobbing into his chest.

"We lost, Robert. Can you hear them coming? Their footsteps.. so.. close..."

The sound of heeled shoes tapped down the darkened hallway toward the room.

"Ahh nooOOO NO ******** NO WE AIN'T GOING DOWN LIKE THAT!"

His batleth was summoned in his hand before he'd even stood up completely, stumbling to his feet and taking position right in front of Reine.

"WHERE YOU AT YOU SONS OF b***h- .."

They were still in the Portal Room.

"Reine, we're still in the Portal Room."

That's what I just said.

She burst out laughing, then, and picked herself up.

"God, you're so easy to fool." Almost terrifyingly, though, she could hear footsteps echoing outside the room...

"You better get up, or they'll really come and get you."

Entering the room, Clarice swiftly surveyed the trainees and decided she should have sent Robert a text reminding him not be a total ******** idiot. Ah well, noted for next time. "Right. Robert why are you...actually nevermind, onto business. This is a pick up mission, time between the Island and the rest of the world is...unpredictable, so you may find yourselves with a bit of a wait, but hopefully nothing longer than two hours. During that time, I expect you to restrain yourselves and not get into trouble with local businesses or authorities, got it?"

She paused to give Robert a narrow look that explained quite clearly that she felt this would be difficult for him, but she'd still like for him to at least ******** try not to ******** up before the mission even started. Dumbass.

She cleared her throat and continued, handing a plain white business card to Reine, "This is the location. Arrive at the door at 9:00pm sharp, your coats will be enough to get you in and to the man you need to meet. The payment's already been made, you just need to pick up the case from him. Don't screw around, understand?"

Robert hated the look on Clarice's face. She couldn't be on the rag again, so the truth of the matter had to be that the b***h was just that. A b***h. He hadn't done s**t to her, but man, did she have a stick up her a** for him. Maybe she was feening for it. That was probable, and unfortunate; Petra was the only girl with a ticket to ride this love train.

"Sure, we'll be fine." Robert responded, just a little bit of light sarcasm in his voice. "You've got nothing to worry about, sugar."

"A pick-up mission?" Reine echoed, then nodded. Clarice hadn't told them what the contents of the case they'd needed to pick up were; she'd briefly considered asking, just to be sure of any other precautions they needed to note, such as "Easily Flammable" or "Not Waterproof" or "Likely to Spontaneously-- no, well, if it was such an important item, precautions would probably already have been taken.

There was a surge of glee when Clarice handed her the namecard instead of Robert, and after scanning it quickly, she placed it in a pocket, where it would hopefully be safe.

"I understand." Reine aimed a kick at Robert surreptitiously, then saluted Clarice.

"Let's go, Bobby."

Clarice felt it was a sign of her own maturity that she refrained from asking if Robert could handle this mission without breaking into tears. Instead she just settled for thinking it and smirking at him. "Good luck, Reine. If things go to hell, use your pendant to get back here."

As she waved them both through the portal, Clarice couldn't help but wonder why a girl like Petra would ride on Robert's shortbus. Likely it was out of charity or simple low standards, but the more generous part of Clarice hoped it was the sex for Petra's sake. Seriously, Robert had to be good at something, otherwise it was just entirely too pitiful for the woman who put up with him.

The portal opens into a dark alley, which in turn leads to...the Las Vegas strip? The time is 7:30pm. Robert and Reine have an hour and a half to kill in Vegas before their pick-up.

And that was the final ******** you. Clarice was being way too obvious about her dislike, and Robert's cocky grin turned into something a little more annoyed as she wished Reine good luck and ignored him.

What a b***h!

All of Robert's dark thoughts about Clarice disappeared when they stepped through the portal, and the bright, blinking, gaudy lights of Las Vegas winked playfully at him from every corner of every building in his line of sight.

"Holy.." Robert breathed out, taking a few steps forward, before starting a jog that ended in twirling around 'Sound of Music' style.

"LAS VEGAS, BABY!!" Robert screamed out, bellowing in laughter.
