This roleplay is not a main roleplay. It is a side roleplay —the title should have informed you of that. This begins one week prior to Princess Ruby's announcement of the upcoming war. Unless you're Guardian Sailor Topaz, please don't post until one of us mentions that it's okay for others to post, or you see that this post has been edited to say so. Thank you.

Almost as soon as he'd picked up the odd stone laying on the ground in the middle of the Solarian forest, he thought he felt something. Just for a moment. But it was gone again before he could really register what it was, and his patrol gave him no time for pondering until he was off-duty. The brown-haired guardsman heard his earpiece buzz with static, then clear to the sound of his queen's voice, frowning slightly. What could have happened that she was interrupting a patrol? "Raph dear, you're going on an extended mission. Go get yourself packed. Leave Perri in command for now, I don't know when you'll be back, and Pack Five needs a Hound in the meantime. Oh, and don't throw that gemstone away."

When the earpiece buzzed into static once more and then shut off, Raphael rolled his eyes, moving to go grab his backs from the tack room and pack up a few sets of the all-black 'ninja-gear', as his Second oh-so-lovingly put it. While he was doing that, he yelled over his shoulder to Peronai regarding her sudden —and hopefully temporary— promotion. Heading quickly up to his room after that, he packed up more clothing, then an extra set of his Pack uniform— a brown military coat with gold detailing across the chest and on the shoulder pads and a pair of black dress pants with brown boots.

Tapping his earpiece to reconnect with the queen's, he waited for the buzzing and static to finish off, then spoke teasingly.
"You're being cryptic again, Luce. I thought we broke you of that," when the quiet laughter of his response died down, he continued, "I'm glad you haven't forgotten to have a sense of humor though. ...Hey, Luce, is this a covert ops thing, or am I going wherever I'm going carrying the flag of Solaria?" Upon hearing his response however, he paused a moment, sitting down on his bed. It was... whatever he wanted? ...Was he being released from duty? Had he really blown it that badly during that last battle? Sure, he'd ended up at Asaa's tender mercy again, but who hadn't? .... Kal'drystz in the Chasm. What if he was being removed from his position as a knight to the royal house? He'd definitely lose it, if he was. And what about his family? Their honor would be completely non-existent. They'd be social pariahs. And after the Paladieno crest had served the royal house for generations without mishap. Oh, his family would kill him. His father and Mike would strangle him to death and sink his body in the lake.

Raph probably would have gone on with his mental tirade of the consequences of his actions, had he not been snapped out of his musings rather rudely with a streak of gold light that slapped him across the back of his head and told him to get a grip on himself.
"Relax, your family's honor will remain intact. I'm not sending you away like that. ...Raphael Primeo Paladieno, you're being charged with the protection of Sailor Topaz of the Gemstone Senshi. ...And if I'm right —which, I probably am— then you'll see why when you get there. Now finish packing, and stop worrying yourself into a fit. You should know better than to think I would do that to you, considering how long we've known each other."

Properly appeased, Raph quickly finished packing, picking up his suitcase and glancing around for anything he might have missed, making sure his twin sai were still properly sheathed and set away in his belt. "Okay Luce, I think I'm all pac--"

Raphael suddenly found himself falling through a light-disk portal that had formed under his feet, pitching forward to land on his hands and knees and roll a few feet, coming to a stop in front of someone with long brown hair as his suitcase was pitched out of the portal to land on top of him, making him groan in pain. Lucis really needed to work on her portal landings... "Oh Kal'drystz! I'm sorry Raph!"

When your family owns a shop, you help out whether you like it or not. Just like anyone else has to do the laundry or dishes or make their bed, the shop is your chore. Ina never really minded. Besides the other senshi, some of the most interesting people she knew she had met while manning the counter for her mother. Still, it took up most of her time, and with her mother's occasional hints that she should get around to going back to school her chores made for some long days.

In truth, Ina was bored. She had no idea what she wanted to do with her life other than her senshi duties, and even that she hadn't been doing much of lately. The Princess Ruby, the Earth princesses Odette and Charlotte, they at least had a purpose, had a plan. She didn't like to be jealous, but she envied the others who seemed to know where they were going in life.

It was early evening on Earth and she was wandering with no set plan in mind. She had been told to take a break after helping with the shop most of the day, but what fun was it if she was alone? Planning on giving one of the girls a call to find something interesting to do, Ina stopped short in the middle of the sidewalk. Some sort of disk of light hummed into existence at about eye level only a few feet away. Her hand shot up to grip the topaz pendant on a short chain around her neck, but before she could do anything else a figure had dropped out of the disk and rolled to a stop in front of her. Only moments later a suitcase popped out after him, landing directly on his head.

"What in the..." Ina breathed, hardly sure what to make of it. People didn't just fall on their a** out of portals in the middle of the street in the middle of the day. Glancing quickly around the street, she didn't see anyone around; or at least, no one who was paying them any attention. Was he... real? Could anyone else see him? It wouldn't be the first time she had seen spirits, only she had never been able to hear them before.

Well, real or not, the young man was on the ground and probably not comfortable. "Excuse me, are you alright?" she asked as she reached down to touch his arm in the hopes that she could help him to his feet.

The reaction from her pendant was sudden, and Ina jumped back. The light that had flared up from her topaz slowly faded, but it left her confused. No one else could call light to her pendant. No one. Isn't that what the Queen had said, the first time she had been presented to her as a senshi? Wasn't the gemstone only supposed to work for her?

This man was not an apparition; she could touch him, and only a true channeler could interact with a spirit like that. But what...? "Who are you?"

Raph had, of course, just been in the middle of reaching for the proffered hand when it's owner jumped back, making him miss his movement and fall back to the ground on his rather cushioned rear end. Was that supposed to be the greeting around here? Offer a hand and then backstep-lunge out of reach? He supposed if that was the case, at least it was simple enough to learn. He quickly got up to his feet correctly, holding a hand out and then lunging away in the same manner that Ina had, responding to her in thickly-accented and vaguely choppy English. "I am fine, thanks you."

Had Raph kept the little gem he'd found in his hand instead of in his bags, he might have found nearly the same effect had erupted from his. But since he in fact did have his put away, he didn't notice. Having to pause and think hard about the proper translation both for her question and then for his response, Raph frowned slightly before answering in the same thick accent, though it certainly wouldn't sound like anything Ina or any of the other Gemstones had heard before. Grinning charmingly, the guardsman winked, thinking he had the right translations. "I are well, and you are?"
[[Please correct me if Ina speaks a language other than English.]]

Ina blinked, trying not to gape at the handsome young man as he mimicked her before responding in a heavy accent. Here he was, acting like popping out of thin air was perfectly normal, like it was something he did every day. She was a senshi, she should be used to people from other cultures, even other worlds. But right now she was stuck on the reaction from her pendant and what it meant. Was he friend or foe? Did he not even notice what had happened to her stone?

"I am... not exactly well," she replied. "This is not normal, even for me." Shaking her head, she tried to think rationally. If he was an enemy, she needed to be wary. Her cell was in her purse, she could text one of the other girls quickly if she had to call backup, but hopefully she could hold out on her own.

It didn't seem like he had understood her question, though. Trying to gauge if he was a threat, she extended her hand once more. "I'm Ina. Why don't you tell me who you are?" She returned his wink with a smile, waiting to see if the topaz on her necklace flashed again if they touched once more. She would figure this young man out, one way or another.

((OOC) I am not exactly sure about the language. Are the Gemstones centered around Tokyo when on Earth since that's where Usagi/the series is originally from? If so, than the common languages for the senshi are probably English and Japanese.)

It isn't normal? Why wouldn't it be normal? What other way was there to get around besides portals? Well, of course, he could just walk like every other Solarian, but that wouldn't exactly be feasible when traveling across space to another semi-tethered space object. And he didn't have any real reason to access one of the trade ships, and portals were faster and easier, so why not? What else could possibly be used to transverse space in any relatively acceptable amount of haste? "It is... not normal?"

Oh, well, she wanted to know what classification of humanoid he was. That was easy enough to answer; why hadn't she just asked that to begin with? Holding out his own hand to mirror the gesture that the 'Ina' was making, he smiled in return and answered simply. "I am a Solarian."
((Well... Whatever the language is, let's just say Raph is failing at it. ...Someone didn't pay enough attention in school: Raphael~))

"Solarian?" Ina asked, tilting her head. She wasn't sure she was familiar with that particular planet - or country. Normally it would be the Queen who met foreign ambassadors, so she wasn't sure exactly what to do. She definitely wasn't going to just lead him right to the Moon Palace if he was an enemy, she had to try and establish that first. She had to try to be smart about this. She could not let on that she was a senshi just yet.

"Well, this is Earth," she smiled again. "We don't have anything like that portal here, actually." Looking down, she saw that his hand was held out to mirror hers. Apparently shaking hands wasn't a greeting he was used to. Despite how wary she was trying to be, despite how nervous she was about her pendant's reaction, she giggled softly.

"We do, however, sometimes shake hands as a greeting." Ina took the young man's hand in hers, gently shaking it twice. Since he was mirroring her, it was the opposite hand from the one she would normally shake, but she let that slide. Her pendant didn't react as violently as it had earlier, but the topaz felt warm. Something settled in a corner of her mind, something almost familiar. Ina couldn't quite put her finger on it, but it almost felt like this young man wasn't an enemy.

She held onto his hand a bit longer than usual, trying to pinpoint that feeling. But no, it would have to be something that she would figure out later. For now, they should probably get off the street. Even if no one else had noticed the portal, they would probably do better not to have a lot of onlookers. Especially if she was planning on figuring out exactly why this young man was here. Stepping past him, she picked up the suitcase that had dropped on his head. It was a little heavy and she suddenly felt bad. It must have really hurt. Holding the bag with both hands, she used her head to make a small gesture down the street. "Come with me, then. I know a cafe nearby, and seeing as I'm the one who was there when you dropped out of the sky, maybe we can figure out why you're here." She took a few steps before smiling back at him over her shoulder, hoping that he would know to follow. "You could tell me your name too, if you want, Mr. Solarian."

Raph was starting to get a sinking feeling somewhere in the pit of his stomach that he was making a fair fool of himself, and he wasn't fond of the thought. He knew she was speaking that earth language, but it seemed like neither of them was really getting their point across so well.... He probably should have paid more attention to his Common Earth Languages and Divisions class when he was still in high school. But all he had really cared about was joining the Royal Guard like his brother and family, so he never bothered to do more than barely pass the class. It would figure that he would be the one stuck in this situation instead of one of his smart brothers. And it was probably on purpose, as well. His queen really was a sadistic prankster. He should have listened to Mike instead of thinking he knew her.

Wait. They shook hands as a greeting? ... Then what was that backstep-lunge before? The guardsman laughed awkwardly at how stupid he must have looked and corrected himself after she had finished shaking his hand the incorrect way, switching hands and shaking hers easily. A handshake was a common greeting to him, it was just the matter of culture presumptions that had gotten in the way of his understanding.
"Forgive me, if you will? I am not familiar with your culture or language, will be confused." Hopefully he remembered enough from school to be at least marginally understandable, while not offending anyone. He couldn't remember whether exposing his elbows would insult anyone, or if it was pointing up at the clouds while looking at someone that would be considered an insult. He believed he would try to avoid both of those things, just in case. He'd use his middle finger if he had to point anywhere, that way no one would take offense to his pointer finger. "If you will do show me where this cafe is, it may be the best place for speech between us," he paused for a moment, then continued to answer her question, hoping his name wouldn't sound too unusual or hard to pronounce for her, since he was now going to have to assume that 'Ina' was a name and not a class of humanoid, "My name is Raphael; I may presume that your name is Ina, and it is not a race of humanoid?"

[[Oh thank god, I've got the time to get back to roleplaying. o.o I'm sorry it took so long for me to reply to this, but my family kidnapped me for my winter break and refused to let me on the computer for anything.]]

"Raphael?" Ina repeated, hoping that she had gotten the pronunciation right. Then she smiled again. "Yes, Ina is my name. And it's alright. Just let me know if I'm confusing you." She was certain that this young man, Raphael, probably found her silly. She just wasn't good at this kind of thing.

Luckily, the cafe she liked was only a few blocks away from where Raphael had landed, and it wasn't too crowded in the early evening. It was a cozy place that served coffees, teas, and a number of different desserts. She gestured to the young man to sit at a booth back in the corner with her, setting his suitcase on the floor beneath the table before sitting down and hoping that he would join her. "Is this the only thing you brought with you?" she asked absently, not really expecting an answer.

Reaching over to pick up the menu left on the table, she held it out to Raphael. "Here. Go ahead and order what you like, my treat." She wasn't sure that he'd have anything in the way of currency since he had only just arrived, and Ina felt that since she was the one dragging him here, it was only right that she treat him. Besides, it was more fun with someone than by herself, even if they had only just met.

But curiosity was still going to get the better of her, and she continued as she held the menu out to him. "Were you sent here as an accident, or are you travelling? ...I don't mean to be rude, you don't have to answer if you don't want to." Ina was hoping that he would answer, though. She was interested, both as herself and as a senshi. She wanted to piece together this strange evening, and she wanted an explanation for why she felt that he was a friend and not a foe.

((OOC) That's fine! "Kidnapping" and "holidays" seem to go together. I've been spotty too, work is devouring my soul.)
