The camp bustled with activity, men, women, and Pokemon all rushed here and there to prepare for the night. They had been camped at this location about a week, it would not be long before they moved on again. But before that, the tribe would have a celebration. One of their own was to be brought into manhood this night. He had completed every challenge the tribe set before him and he was ready. Cha'Time sat staring into the bright orange flames of a camp fire, today was his 15th birthday. A most important birthday in the eyes of his Tribe. It would only be a short while now until he received his first Pokemon, a Torchic, a Pokemon highly revered for its strength, loyalty, and pride. It embodied everything the Tribe held dear. His eyes slid from the fire to the Blaziken standing nearby, helping his mother with some chore or another. He was tall and handsome, a mighty foe and a even greater friend. This particular Blaziken was partnered to his father, Cha'Time could only hope he would gain an ally as brave and steadfast as Kwatike.

Cha'Time sighed and returned his gaze to the fire. He sat there contemplating his life before and what his life would be like from now on, as well as what would expected from him by his tribe now that he was no longer considered a child. Before long the sun had set, it was time. Tokowa, Cha'time's father, emerged from a nearby tent and set one rough palm on his son's shoulder " come Cha'Time, the sun has set and the chief will be waiting." Cha'time nodded and stood, his father led the way along a winding path through the camp which seemed to be deserted now. Soon they entered a large clearing, at the far end sat a tent that was slightly larger than all the rest. This would be the tent of their Chief, Ahanu and his Blaziken, Bidziil. The clearing was ringed by the people of the tribe, they were to give witness to the events that would occur this night.

Soon there was movement in the tent and the Chief stepped out followed by Bidziil. The chief was old, his copper skin weathered and wrinkled by time but his green eyes glimmered with wisdom gained from his many years. He wore a feathered headdress and clothing made from animal hide and fabric hand woven by the women of their tribe. He beckoned Cha'time forward, and suddenly nervous, he hesitated. Tokowa chuckled lightly and gave his son a light push " go on, do not keep him waiting" he said in an undertone. Cha'time cast a glance back at his father and nodded, his father was so confident... He wished he could be that way as well. He took a deep breath, lifted his chin and strode forward till he was mere feet away from Chief Ahanu. Ahanu smiled and lifted one withered hand to rest on his shoulder " Cha'Time, my child, my friend. it has been 15 years to the day since your birth and you have learned much in that time. Today you embark upon a grand journey into manhood, many things will be expected of you as you know, but there are also a great many privileges. Do you understand?" he questioned not un-kindly. Cha'Time just nodded, unable to trust his voice. The Chief smiled again and removed his hand, stepping back a few paces. " As you know, one of the greatest responsibilities and privileges any man or woman of the tribe has, is to assume companionship of a young Torchic. This Torchic will be your greatest friend and ally, protect it with you life and it will do the same for you. The bond between human and Pokemon is sacred, and you must treasure it above all else. Do you accept this responsibility and this privilege?" Cha'time nodded again and forced his voice to work " yes, i accept" The Chief nodded in return and half turned towards his tent " come young ones, it is tiem to make your decisions." As he spoke a small line of Torchic filed out of the tent, each was as proud and beautiful as the next. He knew what would happen next, Cheif Ahanu would call all the un-bonded Torchic in the tribe and they would each stand before him and each would decide if they wished to be bonded with him or not.
