Xiu was usually the optimistic type. She was usually the ghoul who got through things by telling herself and others that it would eventually get better, and she was still this ghoul...kind of. While she still did the latter, the baku's thoughts to herself had become rather pessimistic after the incident a few days ago. There was the fire, yes, but there was also the fact that they had allowed the Horsemen to be taken away. What did this mean for Halloween? What did it mean when these Hunters were powerful enough to capture nearly all the students who had been present? If they hadn't let them go...
She shuddered. These thoughts had been plaguing her for a long while, and it got to the point where--of all people--Shu and Jian, her minis from her uncle, decided that she needed to get out of her room, get some fresh air, and clear her mind. They had very insistent about it too, grabbing the end of her over-skirt with their teeth and tugging her towards the door until she gave in.
So here the baku was, making her way down the path from the demon dorms with her minis flanking her on either side. She had no real destination in mind--perhaps she should swing by the monster dorms to see how Mitsu was doing with those nightmares of hers? While she had a feeling other friends were also being plagued with nightmares, Mitsu's were the only ones that she was presently aware of and trying to fix.
It seemed like Shu and Jian had a different idea in mind, however. After a few minutes of walking, the minis' ears suddenly perked up, and their gaze zoned in on one of the large trees that stood a few paces away. Xiu stopped walking. "Shu? Jian? what's wron--" Without any warning, the pair suddenly ran towards the tree, disappearing behind it and leaving their owner to follow after them.

Vaith was lying at the base of the tree. His vocaloid minipet, Piko, played and fiddled silently with his music player while his kodachinu laid there with it's paws down in a similar sleeping pose. One eye opened to look at the incoming intruders, putting one paw back over it's eyes as it identified the intruder.
Rounding the tree, one would see the reaper clothed in a brand new outfit, lacking his cape and high collared belted shirt from before. Instead, it was replaced by a new yellow sweater and an equally impressive glowing undershirt, the noise markings coiling and receding harmlessly, reflecting the turmoil of emotions within. Vaith's hands were folded behind his head, legs flat against the ground, giving off the impression that the noise reaper was taking a cat nap or merely closing his eyes. But the sight of his creased eyebrows and set grimace indicated a deeper sleep, his teeth gritting against each other. Piko even turned his musical player to maximum volume but Vaith was far too absorbed in the nightmare plaguing him to hear the discarded headphones placed close to his ear on the ground.
His features twitched as his kodachinu licked the edges of his gloved fingers. Anyone who knew Vaith wouldn't be surprised he was sleeping, it was just a little unusual that it was outside of his room. However, it was much harder to sleep inside their confined rooms now. Outside was preferable, although dangerous, considering the possible presence of hunters on campus. Yet, were they any safer in their dorm rooms?

Xiu's minis' ears were pricked as they investigated the strange sleeping boil, heads cocked as they stared at the vocaloid mini and kodachinu that accompanied him. Xiu, on the other hand, had frozen when she rounded the tree to see the sleeping Vaith, only she didn't quite seem to realize that this was Vaith. Reaching down, she scooped up Shu and Jian with one arm each. "You two should know better than to bother people!" She scolded, her voice a whisper, "Let's let the poor boil rest--"
--Wait a minute. Frowning, Xiu lowered her minis back to the ground and fell into a crouch, head tilted as she peered at the sleeping figure. The clothing was unfamiliar but...she knew those noise markings. "Vaith?" Could it be that he was now a knob too? The baku grinned, but it soon fell away when she realized that something was wrong. She studied his face, taking in the creased brows, the grimace...
She knew those signs pretty well. Xiu reached out and gave his arm a concerned shake. "It's just a dream, Vaith. Wake up!"

"I'm not dead. Why do you sound so concerned?" Vaith grumbled, although his eyes didn't open. One hand had grabbed Xiu's arm prodding him, with the sudden pressure of someone who had just woken up.
"What Xiu? You couldn't leave me to sleep it off?" Vaith asked, recognizing the ghoul's unique nagging voice. After all, not many ghouls knew Vaith so he should be able to recognize it.

The baku jerked in surprise when he suddenly woke up (for Jack's sake, open your eyes like a normal person when you're awake, Vaith!) and she even puffed her cheeks out in a pout. However, after a pause, her expression returned to the concerned (and rather motherly) one that she frequently wore these days. There was a beat of silence, and then, "How long have you been having nightmares?"
The question was abrupt, and her voice grew softer as she sat down beside him, trying to slip her arm out of his grasp. "I suspect you haven't been getting a good night's sleep lately, have you?"
And as a baku, it would be pretty easy to determine if he was lying or not about the nightmares. She crossed her arms, as if daring him to even try it.

Vaith didn't open his eyes. Instead, an arm lifted to shield his eyes from the afternoon sky of Amityville, turning his head to the side as he spoke. His eyes, covered from meeting Xiu's pink cotton candy eyes, never missing a beat as he answered Xiu.
"No."
The way he said his defensive no implied that he was, indeed, lying about having nightmares. Of course he wasn't. If he didn't acknowledge them as nightmares, they simply weren't. They were just unpleasant dreams. Had the baku demon really expected Vaith to simply answer that he was? He hung onto her hand with a firm grip, refusing to let the ghoul fuss over him like she did with other boils.
"I've been having dreams."
Dreams were completely different from nightmares, riiiiiiiight?

Did he seriously just--
"...Vaith, I'm a baku." She stared at him, and then added, "I can go into your dreams--I can see what you're dreaming, and if you'd prefer, I can check for myself whether you're lying or not." Was that a threat?
Actually, that was a lie. Xiu wasn't about to jump into anyone's dreams without their permission--not anymore--but the reaper didn't know that.

"You can try." Vaith argued back with just a similar frown.
"By the way, it's about porn."
Vaith opened an eye to see Xiu's reaction. To his obviously horrible cover-up-- BUT NEVERTHELESS IT WAS A HIT AGAINST XIU.
WHO WOULD WIN THIS BATTLE?!

"N-no! I don't believe you!" He was just tricking her! Xiu puffed out her cheeks again, trying to ignore the warmth that was rising in her cheeks. She gave him the most threatening stare that she could manage.

In a convincing show, Vaith looked a little bit like this, as if proving he really did have R-rated dreams.

Xiu's face was rising in a suspiciously red color, breaking into an immense laughter over her "threatening stare." He was laughing so hard, his insides hurt, as he sat up halfway. His hand clutched his shaking stomach, shaking his head.
Oh god, Xiu was priceless.
Back to their regularly unscheduled programming.
"What are you doing here?"
Silent message: I'm not letting you into my dreams. Of porn.

Was...was he laughing at her? The baku folded her arms over her chest, looking rather cross. However, after a few seconds passed, the corners of her lips gave a little twitch, and then she finally grinned. Okay, so that had been kind of silly.
She still wasn't going to give up, though.
"Just...taking a walk. Been moping around too much, according to Shu and Jian." She smiled, jerking her head in her minis' direction. "What about you? Why were you sleeping out here?"
Xiu stared up at the reaper expectantly. Maybe she could get the truth out of him if she tried to look cute.
...Wasn't very good at this.

Vaith could guess what Xiu was moping about. On knee bent upwards, he propped his elbow to cup his chin, crimson eyes landing on Xiu's cute face. Since she was naturally cute, it didn't take much to shine those cotton candy eyes--
---- Aurian and Mai had taught Vaith a lot. Perhaps in the overall book of women, he had only learned a fraction. But a fraction was just barely enough to handle that cute face for at least a second. "I'm sleeping out here because I want to sleep out here." Vaith replied, diverting his gaze, distinctly unfocused on Xiu's look now. Mainly because Vaith was a push-over and he didn't want to be one this time. Didn't she have enough problems of her own without him adding to the list?
"Have you cheered up?"

Sigh. Perhaps she should drop the topic. It didn't look like she was going to get any information out of Vaith, so she might as well leave it.
For now, anyways.
"I'm...better, I suppose," She admitted, setting her hands in her lap, "Still a little...off, but I'm sure I'll feel a hundred percent again eventually." Considering what kind of ghoul she usually was, it felt downright uncomfortable to be so mopey. Hopefully she would be able to overcome that soon. Xiu's lips quirked upwards in a small smile, and then she was quick to change to subject, pointing towards Vaith's clothing.
"So, you're a knob now? When did this happen?"

"M'hm. I guess, a few days ago."
Meaning, before they went after the heirs. It was to be expected, one did not simply turn "knob" status a day later. It was little surprise that nobody had yet to know of his knob exam or for anyone to even care.
"Malcolm's exam." Vaith elaborated, even though it was slight. He reached out to tug at Xiu's silver locks, tapping her ruffled and flowery collar. "You've leveled up too." An obvious statement but Vaith hadn't known. His finger lifted her braid questioningly, leaning in closer to examine her outfit. She was more .. red.
A lot more red.
"Still gorgeous though. But .. you dont have a skirt anymore."
Vaith had liked her skirt. Shorts were not entertaining. His voice did not hide the obvious disappointment. It wasn't as if he wanted her skirt shorter--- but shorts. sad

Leveled up. That was an interesting way to put it, she mused. It was like a video game. "I have, though I, ah, didn't do too well on the exam." She laughed, tail swishing behind her at the memory. "Congratulations for making it to knob status though, Vaith! That new outfit is really cool." She nodded approvingly--the noise boil always seemed to have a good eye for fashion.
...though he had surprised her when he accepted that flower hairclip from her. That hadn't really been fashionable--not for a boil like him, at least.
She sat still as he examined her new outfit, though she let out a startled noise when he lifted her braid. It was...just her hair, Vaith! In a new style! Nothing really special there. Xiu looked genuinely puzzled at the disappointment in his voice, though. Furrowing her brows, she looked down at her legs.
"...? Why, do you think I should have asked uncle to make me something with a skirt instead of shorts?" But shorts were easier to move in! And she could actually train without worrying about...er...well, flipping her skirt up.
