Nyx's Teepee ||| Spoof's Teepee((The rest of the family is more than welcome to join in here, just pop one of us a PM otherwise we can/will start a dif. thread for the whole family. C: Whichever.)) Raph had not long been in the open air, only a couple of days really. He could still remember the comforting darkness of his basket. The light out here was so bright, it hurt his red eyes. The first couple of hours on the outside had seen him walking around with his eyes closed, trying to not run into things. After much teasing he had finally, grudgingly opened his eyes a crack so he would stop tripping over his own two feet.
The noise too, his ears twitched every which way, trying to catch every sound they could. There was so much to listen to, the birds, small animals, leaves and grass blowing in the wind...off in the distance he heard shuffling and he opened his eyes to see what he could see. A rabbit was snuffling around in the dirt, searching for something. Raphael quietly sneaked over to it, trying to figure out what it was looking for.
It startled when he was barely two feet from it and bolted, "Wait...I just wanted to know what was so interesting down here.." he trailed off as the rabbit disappeared into the brush.
Frowning, he put his nose to the ground where the rabbit had been and inhaled experimentally. He got a nose full of dust for his curiosity and promptly started sneezing furiously, trying to get it out. He sneezed so hard he fell backwards onto his butt, rolling over he rubbed his nose on his leg and sneezed again. With a frown, he decided that dirt was icky and made him sneeze...he would avoid it from here on.
Raphael was currently within a clearing in the forest he had been born in. His family was not far away, but he had wandered a little ways to see what was on the other side of the trees. Turns out, another clearing. He wondered if the whole world was thus, clumps of trees separated by big stretches of tall grass and flowers. There was a river not too far away too, he wondered if he could convince his father to take him there later. That would be fun, he supposed his sister could come too. The sun emerged from behind a cloud suddenly and he squinted again, grumbling. It was so bright.

 Lucian followed silently after his son. He had inherited eyes that were bothered by the sun. It made him fear for his son. He was not very old as of yet, he was not trained...Anything could happen until he was used to it. His other senses would become better, and he would be fine after time. But it was at first that Lucian feared the most. Which is why it brought about his desire to teach his son the ways of hunting, even if he did not crave as he did. In hunting there becomes a certain acuteness of senses, of knowing what's going around one. Maybe his son wouldn't crave like him, but he would prepare him earlier than Rini. They both needed to know how to defend themselves even if they never hunted. Rini could pick up on it more easily since she could see, but he would not let either of his children be left wanting. Lucian saw his son's upset face "Raphael, are you okay?" He asked, nosing the small foal.

Raphael leaned into his father's nudge. Day old, he was not yet to the stage where his father embarrassed him and it would be a couple of years yet before that was the case.
"I'm fine, just...my eyes hurt. Is the sun always this bright?" he asked, a hint of a whine in his voice.
They were beginning to water, as bright as the sun was. So, he closed them completely and only saw the red of it shining through his eyelids. This helped, but he could still feel a headache settling just behind his eyes and it made him frown. So far night was his favorite time of day, with only the moon shining down. It was just the right amount of light for his eyes, it would seem. Hopefully it would get better, his mom and sister didn't seem to have any problems with it...

Lucian watched his son gently. The way his eyes closed, the way he seemed so senstitive to the light as he pressed close to him. He wanted to protect him from it, but how does one protect their child from light?
He remembered back on a conversation with his father--with Karloff the only father he had ever known. He had told him all he knew of his real mother. She had squinted like his son did now in the light, maybe it was genetic. "I think..." he said slowly, "That maybe you're like your grandmother. She was never fond of the sun, it hurt her eyes too. Maybe it would be better to walk in my shadow or wait till evening light?" He worried over his son gently.

Raphael thought it over, on one hoof the sun was really starting to bother him. A headache was slowly developing behind his eyes and getting worse every minute. On the other, he was fascinated by the world outside the basket. Everything was alive and bright, even the dirt was great! "I dunno, I guess I could walk in your shadow. I don't want to wait until night time! There's still a lot out here I haven't seen yet." he decided. As a bonus, his father would have to follow him around and answer his questions! He could take a little headache if it meant spending more time with Lucian that day.

"If your sure," he watched his son. He could see that the sun was causing him pain, but that he was eager to be out and stay out. He was happy with what they were doing and he was having fun. "Just tell me if we need to go back," he paused. "What do you want to see?"

Raphael thought about it. Now that he was allowed to stay out, he didn't know what he wanted to do! Maybe Dad will have some ideas?'Good idea!' he thought back to the voice who spoke to him sometimes. It was increasingly talkative, but he didn't mind. His sister was good company but the voice was quickly becoming his best friend. It always seemed to know what to do. "I don't know Dad...you pick!" he exclaimed.

Lucian smiled at his son. "Maybe, I can teach you some of the basics of hunting and foraging for food? It would serve you well to know how to attack and defend yourself." It hurt him to know that his son could be vulnerable to some attacks. He wanted to make sure that he was as safe as he could be.
