Here she was, back in the ring. Hell, it felt good. Last week she had endured a hell of a beating from Erebus but the fact that she had survived was damn-tastic. Granted, it was a ballsy move but even in Talonth's daze of not concisely putting two and two together wasn't his fault; the equation of a stat stacked fighter + a relatively green-pawed fighter made complete sense when one drank intoxicating liquor, jumped around in place, and attempted to stand on one leg. But in some skewed, illogical perspective, the young fighter didn't give a damn.
Besides, sometimes fighting against the more experienced fighters could result in some authentic battle damage.
Standing outside of the ring, Talonth wrapped his fingers around the edge of the ring and bit his lower lip. He wasn't quite sure what would happen and, admittedly, his stomach was already beginning to knot. Whatever the outcome was he'd roll with it but if Rust became injured then he'd never hear the end of it from Keegan---she would more than likely kick his a**. Perhaps the most unsettling fact was that his girlfriend knew how to throw a hell of a punch. It wasn't that she would 'more than likely' kick his a**; he knew she would.
Unconsciously, Rust shifted her weight from side to side swaying to an imaginary beat that pulsated within the confines of her mind---shuffling as she tapped her paws against the ground. She spaced outward, not focusing on her opponent or anywhere in particular.
It wasn't until the starting bell rang that she snapped into that focused mindset albeit in a rather sloppy manner as she stumbled forward, nearly tripping as she lunged with her jaws ajar.

She'd had a chance to recover from the last trouncing she'd received - even if she'd actually won that fight. It had been a relief to do nothing more than sleep for half a day, and then get up and slowly start training again. Quentin hadn't been around during that time; he'd likely been out gambling or drinking, and a tiny, unbiased part of her expressed some disapproval at this - then felt immediately ashamed for doing so. The man had raised her since she was an orphaned puppy, she owed him loyalty, at least. And it wasn't as if she'd been hurt badly at all, just superficial wounds.
But it had been something or a relief when he had come to collect her again, looking her over and patting her roughly - but affectionately - on the side, and declaring that she was fit to fight. Her tail raised and waved a very little bit; something that was never expressed towards any other Mokai. As far as she was concerned, others of her own species could rot. She had no hesitation going after them in the ring.
Quinten brought the dark-furred female over to her side of the ring, unable to see across the pit's high walls to spot her competitor. She'd never yet fought the same Mokai twice: a pity, since there were some she'd like to pay back for several rough bites. Maurea hunkered down and narrowed her eyes, waiting for the signal - when the bell sounded, loud in her ears, she took off like a shot, lunging towards the center of the ring, and the yellow-brown female Mokai who was racing right after her.
They met in a flurry of tooth and claw.

And collide they did.
Rust reeled from the impact as claw or fang, which one she knew not, raked into her. A snarl ripped across her lips as he body twisted and turned, stiffening as her hing legs absorbed the bulk of her body weight as it shifted from the front and slid towards the back. The muscles in her legs became taunt with tension as it conjured, waiting for the opportune moment.
Doubt crept into her mind and cast a veil over her confidence; it stifled her very assurance. The very potential extent of her abilities became obscure and, with it, she could feel herself losing hope. Did she have it in her? The fighter didn't know. Simultaneously as she was being given a hell of a beating, Rust herself could feel her mentality being scissor kicked straight in the medula oblongata. For the first time, she didn't want to be part of the ring---no, she didn't want this life. But, then again, was that frustration voicing itself or was that truly something that she had drawn a matter-of-fact conclusion to?
A malicious growl uttered from her throat. As her temper brimmed well past its breaking point, the fighter lunged upwards with her maw ajar.

Maurea didn't seem to care that this fighter wasn't, at first, seemingly doing anything offensive - her opponent was reluctant, and that suited her just fine. She pressed her advantage, shoving against the other's furry bulk, trying to press Rust back against the wall - a trick she'd picked up from an aggressor in a previous fight. If she could get the female Mokai pinned back against the wall, the fight would go much easier for her.
Unfortunately - either her opponent was either biding her time, or she had snapped out of whatever reverie had held her, for suddenly the female burst up, aiming right at Maurea's throat. To protect the vulnerable part, the dark-furred girl had to pull back sharply, eyes narrowing as she dropped off several paces, giving Rust some room. It wasn't quite fast enough - the jaws snapped against her cheek, and as she pulled back, a few red drops welled up from a cut along the skin underneath the white fur. Resisting the urge to shake her head, annoyed by the trickle down her face, Maurea snapped her jaws testingly, then put her head down and lunged right at Rust's barrel.

An initial hit? Hell, Rust hasn't even expected it herself. There was nothing to gloat about nor to flaunt--it was nothing but damn luck. The taste of hot metal dabbled itself along her maw and caused her to grimace slightly. Her muzzle bunched with a look of disgust. As a fighter, one would have thought that the taste of that warm, oozing crimson would have been elementary although for Rust she hadn't mastered the tactic of ignoring such a taste. To here, there was a significant difference between the blood of a kill and the blood of an opponent and it was the ladder she had yet to come to terms with.
There was little time to contemplate, let alone to rid the wretched taste out of her maw, as Maurea heralded the lunge with a powerful propulsion; a force which knocked the female clear off of her feet.
As the collision hit, Rust tumbled backwards as she was driven by her opponents force and was no longer the master of her own movement. She tumbled toward the wall and found herself left in a heap of fur and limbs. Sandwiched between the other fighter and the wall, Rust undoubtedly had come to the conclusion that this---this wasn't going to end well.
Attempting to gather her bearings, Rust shifted slightly as her back paw pads pressed against its cold, unwavering surface. The weight of her body shifted, sinking down onto her hind legs while her forepaws seemed to conjure just enough weight to keep her upright.
3, 2, 1...
The terra cotta hued mokai suddenly kicked off from the wall and rammed into her opponent. Its success was---well, it was hard to even say if it had come to fruition as all rust saw at the moment was the white of Maurea's underbelly.

It worked! Her opponent went down in a tangle of limbs and tail, so much so that when Maurea pulled back for the fanged attack, she didn't, for a split second, know exactly where Rust's head was. Her blue eyes darted to catch the rust-colored female's, before she sprang into action again, muscles quickly adjusting and flexing to her needs as she opened her jaws wide, pearly-white teeth flashing right down towards the exposed part of the other female's neck.
At that exact moment, Rust threw her body into a tremendous leap, and Maurea found her paws scrambling right over the other female's head and shoulders, trying to avoid most of the force of the blow. Unfortunately - that meant the other female was now underneath her, and the vulnerable part of her belly was exposed. Snarling in frustration, she tried to slam her paws down on the female below her and spring off the other, hopefully getting free of the other fighter and potentially stunning Rust in the process.

There was a searing pain as Maurea's teeth had hooked into her skin and grazed her. A warmth trickled along her neck while the rawness of such a wound bore a potent stinging sensation. She repressed the discomfort, as well as the urge to mat her fur onto the gash to cauterize the wound as a temporary solution. Scattered in thought, the female fighter snapped her attention back onto the scenario that was unfolding before her.
She was beneath Maurea.
Well, this could be somewhat interesting. Paws seemed to pummel the ground relentlessly and Rust was twisting her body every which way to avoid the scuffle. It was becoming somewhat like a game and, admittedly, it was rather entertaining. As one of Maurea's back paws stomped downward, Rust had lost her touch as the paw slammed down onto her ear. She was caught. At the initial seizure, the female attempted to jerk her head upwards although her opponents stance was immovable. Panic seemed to stem out of Rust a she lay there, helpless.
Turning her muzzle towards Maurea's leg, Rust resorted to the only thing that she could do---
She clamped down.

By the texture and taste, she'd hit flesh, but only briefly; Maurea hadn't been able to get a good grip on the other Mokai, and Rust was gone underneath her before she could do more than register the meager hit. Stamping angrily, paws sometimes hitting the ground or flailing in the air, others occasionally finding their landing place on Rust's body, Maurea struggled to get a good purchase in order to launch away.
Just as she'd gathered herself to thrust off and roll to the side, she felt teeth curl around her back right foreleg - hard.
A furious yelp escaped her muzzle: she couldn't help it. Her other back paw instinctively coiled back, then sprang right at Rust's own maw, hopefully with enough force to get the other fighter to let go. Damnit!

Her body was already sore, no doubt black and blue, from the various kicks and 'dancing' due to the number Maurea had laid on her. Damn, she had some powerful kicks! There was one in particular that had collided at just the right angle against her rib cage---that one in particular was starting to make things complicated. She had sworn that there had been a defined 'crack' that had erupted from within the cavity of her chest somewhere along the fight which was creating a challenging task in heaving a breath inward and outward.
As the yelp resounded throughout the compound, Rust's grasp released itself just as her opponent's let picked itself up. She had been hoping for a spare moment, a brief second to catch her breath, yet this brawl only had countless surprises lying in wait. And this one---oh, this ine was the one that was going to get her a** kicked.
Watching as Maurea recoiled her leg back, Rust's eyes widened. Oh s**t, oh s**t, oh---
Maurea's foot seemed to encompass the front of her muzzle as she slammed it into Rust's face. Claws felt as if they were grappling her muzzle and flung her body out from under Maurea in an airborne tumble. What a sight. What a truly pathetic sight. The moments of 'catching air' were few but it was enough to cause the female fighter to land hard on her side. Blood from the wound on her neck seemed to trickle down her neck and pool more lively; the gash she had previously earned had become strained to the extent that it had widened its girth. The fighter winced, whining slightly while her fangs were clenched fiercely.
Damnit. God damnit.
But there was still just enough fight left in her yet.
Pulling herself up from the ground, Rust ran towards Maurea. She lowered her head and rammed herself at her.

Maurea snarled as Rust's teeth pulled through her leg, wrenching it free with an almighty yank. It was bleeding freely, but although it hurt to put weight on the limb - it didn't hurt so badly that she couldn't move on it, so she suspected it wasn't broken. Gingerly taking a few precious seconds to test it, and get used to the pain - enough to endure, not enough to make her even consider backing away - she growled low in her throat, eyes narrowing considerably as they snapped back to the other female.
Maurea didn't like it when someone got a good hit on her - and this female had twice drawn blood. It was now personal, or as personal as it would ever get with Maurea, and by the time Rust had pulled herself up from the ground, the dark-furred Mokai shot off after the lighter-colored female with a snarl, hoping to dart underneath the other and go for the throat.

This was turning out to be a hell of a beating. Rust's mind was spinning, near the brink of mental exhaustion as she stood there. The lights from the compound were hurting her eyes and sound alone seemed distorted and garbled. Existence itself felt surreal, foreign with no distinction. Breathing was becoming a labored task of its own and the pain that surmounted from ribs felt as if it was crushing her from the inside. Everything hurt. Every damn inch of her hurt. Perhaps it would be better if she could simply succumb to whatever would befall her; to be stripped away from existence and to be transported into the unknown---past the veil from which the living had no recollection of nor vaguely could connect to while bound to mortality.
Near listless and incoherent, Rust hasn't seem Maurea approach and found herself at the mercy of the others jaws. Teeth were penetrating through like daggers embedded within a feral smile.Their savage presence bore no mercy, no saving grace for the weak; they were honed to render asunder.
Rust attempted to claw at Maurea's face but a sadness seemed to encompass her---the sadness of knowing that she was worth nothing. Perhaps it was the tangible testament that she truly wasn't meant to live amongst the humans and their settlement. Her heart still beat for the wild, sill pulsated for the unbridled beyond with every fiber of her being.
Yet whether it was here in Huntingdon or out amongst the wild, death would still n** at her heels and test her.
Then come what may.
As a last ditch effort, Rust swept at Maurea's eyes.
