K. was nervous, he could tell by the way she walked. Truth be told, he was upset he had gotten injured and had to sit out for a week. That meant that was a week of no pay, a week without being able to provide, to care for her. He leaned against her as they walked together, adn crooned, and her hand settled atop his head and he closed her eyes.
He wanted to do this for her, again, he needed to.
They had trained, and he felt stronger, wiser, and they were a team. K. stood behind him, removing the lead from his collar and touched his side one last time, "Remember," she said softly, "and you'll do just fine. Show them who you are."
She went into the crowd and left Kuruk standing alone, facing the other side of the ring, the pit, and he raised his head and tail, puffed his chest out and narrowed his eyes.
The other half of the ring was shaded, and he couldn't tell who his opponent was. Regardless, at the sound of the bell, Kuruk took off running, paws beating upon the ground, his weight aimed for the other, he wanted to take the other mokai down to the ground with his weight.

"Ready to rip, roll, and punch it?" Keegan called out.
An enthusiastic howl erupted from within the compound as J-Dub kept himself shrouded by the shadows for now. He was a cheeky son of a gun and surprise was one thing that he thrived off of. Knowing that, perhaps, his opponent was left in suspense until the starting bell rang only made a wry grin broaden across his maw. His paws shuffled slightly as his forepaws stretched forward, preparing him for the hell that was about to be unleashed.
Releasing him from his lead, his handler gave him a solid thump on his rump which caused him to croon with a pleasant rumble. Had he not have to fight he would have asked for another smack right across his a**. Looking back towards her, J-Dub cocked his head slightly and grinned just a bit. He arched his rump higher once, then twice as if trying to bait her.
Keegan eyed him suspiciously, leaning over the railing of the pit, she smacked him playfully across the face. "You'll get some extra loving tonight if you pull this off," she teased. As the starting bell erupted, Keegan whipped her right arm outward, straight in front of her, as she rallied him onward.
"Go kick some a**, buddy!"
And with that, J-Dub lunged forward.
His eyes scrutinized his opponent, watching as the other barreled towards him. Yet he met the others charge head on.

Ironically, when Kuruk was hoping to find something bright or extremely dark against the dirt and what felt like sand under paw, he was faced with a barreling mokai, colors not too different from his own. The opposing male ran with a fire that Kuruk felt in himself, and he grinned, and they clashed. It was jarring, their weights hitting into one another, and Kuruk didn't dare look up to K. and worry about how her eyes must have looked.
He had to stay in the here and now.
"Not bad," Kuruk said with a huff as they toppled. Kuruk pushed himself to his paws and away, skidding slightly and he pushed forward with his back legs. He lurched forward aiming for the striped, brown male's legs to knock him off his paws.

There was a relentless persistence that burned inside of him; like all fighters, J-Dub has something to prove and yet perhaps the most important key to his strength lied in the dedication to preserving his home---this new life he had. Still fresh from the wild and transitioning into a 'domestic' lifestyle, he often had his ups and downs. He was a rather moody b*****d sometimes but he was finding that things were, surprisingly, falling into place. The collision as he and his opponent collided seemed to cause the both of them to reverberate and stumble backwards while, simultaneously, he was jostled back into his focused mindset.
His body twisted as he rolled away. J-Dub whipped his body around as he nimbly rose to his paws. "Yo' ain' so bad yo'self," he smirked.
The attacks were quick and J-Dub could feel the other all but ram into his legs. He bristled slightly and lunged for the back of the males neck; he needed to straight up take some damn control of the situation. Because if this is how the brawl was going to roll out then that definitely wasn't going to fly.

Kuruk smirked at the male, and as he went for the male's legs, he was successful. However, the other male was very quick on his paws, and Kuruk could only watch as the other, light-pawed, moved with ease. Kuruk often felt heavy on his paws, due to his broad shoulders and weight. He eyed the male curiously, and as he went to move forward, he felt a sudden pain on the back of his neckand he grimaced and snarled, hackles rising.
He didn't like to use fangs or claws, he liked to use his weight, his strength if he could, but he didn't like going for the neck. It was instinctual, and he didn't know, perhaps he was afraid, if he did he might revert to something, a mokai, K. would not be able to handle.
He needed control for the both of them, he and K.
He snarled and huffed and whipped his body around, trying to buck the male off, but the male had a good grip. Looking to the walls, Kuruk snarled, and ran for them, with the other male upon him.
If he wouldn't let go, Kuruk would make him. Kuruk, through the run, was sure to keep his head down, in case the male tried to go for the underside of his neck, he didn't want that.

The thuggin' male hadn't been one for fang or claw but, in this case, he needed to somehow gain an advancement. His personal policy had been to simply go for the scruff--it was the safest way to go about things rather than puncturing or gauging an opponent senselessly. Bloodshed didn't have its place amongst the ring and the point wasn't to obliterate ones opponent; such an irrational conception would only bring the onslaught of innocent souls and inflate the egos of those who solely thrived on defining themselves by how close they could render their opponent to all but taste of death.
It was sickening.
Likewise, going for an opponents neck was just as despicable and savage; that did little to define ones skills as a fighter.
As his opponent began plowing towards the wall of the ring, J-Dub suddenly thrust his body to the side in attempt to pull out a stop in the others progression and to flip the fighter onto the ground. It was a hell of a risk, downright ballsy move, but damn---he had to go for it.
Balls to the walls!

Kuruk was barreling towards it. He didn't like the feeling of being held like that, he didn't like the feeling of fangs so close to his neck, he closed his eyes, small flashes of pieced images behind his eyelids and he opened them. He couldn't remember what it was from but...why did it bother him so much, besides his fighting honor?
He snarled, and as they were close, the striped male thrust him backwards, Kuruk flipped over himself hitting the ground with his side, hard and he snarled when he did so. He coughed as he came to his paws, eyes narrowed, and he blew air from his flaring nostrils.
The male was strong, creative.
He wanted to try.
Kuruk ran for him, and when close, slid in the dirt, on his side, almost belly up, and when close enough, thrust his legs out intent on lurching the striped male up into the air, knocking some air out of him.
He wasn't sure if it would work, but he had to give himself the chance.

Oh s**t--it worked?
That was a ******** miracle and a half! Well, he knew it had to at least cause a reaction somehow but this? A grin stretched across his maw as it twisted with a hint of a smirk. Damn, he was a hell of a strategist--forget about fighting; someone send this son of a gun off to war because he knew how to bring the war home! His silent celebration was thwarted as he had become distracted; he had half forgotten about the whole 'impact with the ground' that was pending.
J-Dub tumbled, barreling into a heap of fur and limbs as he tumbled off to the side. He staggered onto his paws and coughed as dust kicked up in the air. He sneezed, squinting his eyes.
Perhaps it was his own distraction that got the better of him as, without warning, the fighter found himself to be pummeled. The propulsion and force of the kicked caused him to momentarily be skyward bound. But that s**t didn't lost long as gravity seemed to drag him down. And he fell. Hard. Colliding onto the ground, J-Dub lost his breath---he stifled a breath with a wheeze.
"Holy ********," he spat. "Whut wus' dat s**t?" Whatever it was, he wasn't a fan.
Stubborn, he winced and plunged toward the other male head first.

"Creativity driven by your inspiration," Kuruk said matter of factly, with a smirk. He had pushed himself to stand and his heart was beating in his chest. He curled and uncurled his tail behind him. He watched the male, as unpleased as he seemed to be, and kept on his paws, trying to keep the center of gravity in his stomach, keeping him low to the ground.
Kuruk would have never tried such a move if he hadn't seen the striped male do something so off kilter, so unorthodox, so in fact, Kuruk felt as if he owed the male a thank you.
Before he could muster the words, Kuruk's skull made a crack noise as his head was slammed into, and he fell backwards, hard. He coughed and let a low whine emanate from the corner of his mouth. He could hear K. saying something, and other men beside her talking back.
He didn't want them touching her, or talking to her.
Kuruk saw how men looked at her in her male's absence, he had to protect her. This needed to end.
As he wavered to his paws, he stumbled, and swayed back and forth, when his body settled, he looked to the male and ran for him again. Only this time, instead of running his full weight at the striped mokai, Kuruk side stepped, starting to skid sideways, and lurched his side towards the male to give his head a break from being battered.

The crash was imminent and its effect was weak, weaker than what he had expected. Inside he only scorned himself severely. He hated losing---he ******** hated it. There was insatiable craving, this voracious appetite, for success and lately he hadn't been landing on it. He reeled back slightly while his ears pinned against his skull, his hackles bristled. J-Dub's physique displayed a clear ‘******** off’ message that was etched in the way he stood there. Goddamn it, couldn't this goddamn ******** fight just be over? After this he sure as hell needed an illegal fight---or, at the bare minimum, to give Rust hell with a slew of playful banter.
From the corner of his eye, J-Dub watched as the other began approaching him, side-stepping or whatever side-s**t-step action was going on. His ocher eyes narrowed as he fanged a restless snarl. As the other lurched, the fighter ducked low and rammed himself forward into the others chest or at least hoping to.
Lately he felt he was straight up s**t out of luck.

Before he was able to make his last attack successful, the brown mottled and striped mokai had been fast, faster than he expected. He felt something collide with his chest, and Kuruk reeled backwards, digging into the ground with his claws, trying to keep himself on his paws. He panted, watching the other male, and saw the expression and utter fact of anger. Kuruk let his ears fall back, eyes narrow, but he did nothing else.
The bell tolled, and they were done.
He would have taken the moment to give the male his name, give a respectful bow, but he felt like he was walking on nails and sharps slivers with those eyes staring back at him. So Kuruk merely stepped back, dipping his head slightly to show respect as he went to his side of the ring.
K. met him with open arms, and Kuruk nestled his head against her side, he did, however, look back to the male and wondered: would he ever meet him outside the ring?
Only time would tell.
