I know a little Cantonese and can understand people talking in Cantonese. I don't understand Chinese writing or Mandarin though. crying

Liambiam I know a little Cantonese and can understand people talking in Cantonese. I don't understand Chinese writing or Mandarin though. crying I speak fluent Cantonese and of coz i understand Chinese writing. I can even type them wheeeee! whee I think i understand Mandarin (if they're not over-stressing the "r" sound) sweatdrop but my spoken Mandarin sucks sad

Actually my first language is English but I was brought up in a Cantonese/Shanghainese family. I can hardly speak the language (Shanghainese is my strongest) but I can understand the basics without too much problem. My Mandarin has been improving over the last little bit... of course as a direct result of the tutolage of my dear girlfriend who's Taiwanese. biggrin

I was brought up speaking cantonese till i was about 2.
then i picked up english in school...and basically slowed down on the cantonese bit. so yeah. my canto's horrible now. xd

i understand cantonese and can speak a little of it whee
for mandrin.... gonk domokun stressed i can't speak..only understand a tiny bit *hides*
but i do know Hokkien 3nodding biggrin

My marks in Chinese are average-bad, and my pronounciation is weird when I'm nervous. razz Believe me, i fail most of my Chinese tests and exams even though Cantonese is my mother language sweatdrop (btw am i the only one here with chinese being the mother language? confused )

I got 100% in my Chinese school exam before. If I took it again I probably wouldn't get as much.

i can speak cantonese fluently and i can understand mandarin......a bit sweatdrop ....but i can't speak it...i can also write a bit of chinese and read a bit too..... 3nodding
