 Sylwanin padded her way back toward HomeTree. Even after all this time, she remembered the way as she took the high path toward her old home. She missed it more than she could put into words and the idea of seeing it again was making her a little restless and giddy. She grinned as she went, truly happy for the first time in a long time.
The black and silver lioness could not have kept the spring out of her step if she had tried. The closer she got the more the excitement seemed to build and she wanted to be there already. She wanted to see her family, her old friends, see what had changed. There were so many questions she had no answers to. So many faces she did not know the fate of. She was half afraid of what she would find and that just seemed to make it all the more exciting.
Sylwanin was within sight of Hometree, when she saw a familiar lion coming out toward her. Was that Kaym'itan? It had to be, either that or he had mated and produced a son that looked just like him. She grinned wider and crept as close as she could to the lion. When she was sure it was Kaym, she popped up beside him. "I See you, Kaym'itan."

Derp moment.....summery of the post lost here:  Lion returning home not as quickly as he would have from night patrol, to see his cubs to their nanny's or teachers, mostly due to his problems with his mate. He gets startled by the princess, turning and crouching ready to attack, till he realized who it was, disbelieving. End of lost post summery.

Sylwanin tried so very hard not to laugh at Kaym's startled reaction. She did not doubt he could win in a fight. And she knew it should scare her that he bared his teeth at her, but it did not. Kaym was a warrior, a scout. She had snuck up on him and that was not something that one did lightly. She could not recall ANYONE sneaking up on him before she had gotten lost from the pride. Either something was wrong, or a lot more had changed than she realized.
Well, a lot had changed with her, so she should expect the same with them, she guessed. Sylwanin gave Kaym a bright smile, which would have been something she NEVER did before. Even her smiling before had been full of herself and smug. Now she had an easy friendly manner to her compared to before. "I am Sylwanin. Have I changed my appearance so much while I was gone?" She put her paw up and touched the male's shoulder. "It is good to see familiar faces again."
The war was over, her goddess and people would judge her as they would, but she was home to face that. To see her family and her friends, even her goddess, would be wonderful. Her pride had kept her away for so long. They could not really think so badly of her for fighting instead of helping to evacuate the weak. Others had been there to do that in her place... it was her foolish pride that had let her think otherwise or that she was SO important to one thing that she could really disappoint everyone so much. So many lessons learned the hard way.

Kaym'itan gave the princess a worn smile. He was not the young, reckless, warrior he had been when the war had started. A male just grown into his mane. He and Toruk had been a force hard to stop then. They had cut a bloody swath through the enemy.
Now he was a full grown male, not old by any means, still in his prime. Though his frame was still lean, muscled, and it was obviousness he still did his job, there was a look in his eyes that was haunted and made him seem far older then he was.
However the smile he gave her was his old reserved one, a half smirk that had balanced Toruk's wide grin.
" Princess, it is good to see you. We had thought you lost."

Sylwanin poked Kaym'itan's muzzle, teasingly. "You are not so lucky as to lose me forever. Though, I must say..." Her voice got quiet for a little, as she was a little bit embarrassed to admit it. "I almost did not come back out of shame." It had been said, not that she wanted to say it, but there it was done. It did feel a little better to have gotten it out to a friend.
She wondered what made her old friend look so tired and worn. He had always been so full of energy before. Years were probably to blame, but she really wanted to know for sure. It was hard to not care about that much of a change in one's friend. Then again, he probably was going to ask what happened to her that she was not so arrogant and, well, a brat anymore.

Kaym'itan chuckled at the poke to his muzzle, " I see somethings haven't changed at all Princess." Sylwanin had always teased him, considering him far to serious for their age, and in secret he had always enjoyed it. " and Eywa is not so kind to a poor old scout like me to lose my first and only love forever." He teased right back.
There had never been anything between the two, most times half the clan feared they would kill each other, for if there were any lion who had ever stood up to her arrogance and called her a brat and pointed out her flaws and what she was doing wrong, how she was doing and why she shouldn't be doing it...it had been Kaym'itan. More then once Toruk had gotten between them to keep fur from meeting fang.
Yet somehow in all of that, they had formed some kind of odd bond that had kept them friends, some might even say close ones.

Sylwanin grinned and laughed at Kaym. "Some things do not change, but a lot has." She fought down the urge to nuzzle him out of sheer happiness of being back and finding him well. "Your 'first and only love,' huh? Eywa frowns on lying, Kyam." The lioness couldn't help but feel a little flattered at the jest, though. At least, one of her friends had missed her a little it would seem.
The black and silver lioness stretched and shook herself off, flicking a few leaves onto Kaym in the process. "I am afraid you will be a bit bored with my return... I am not quite so much of a brat as I used to be. Still have plenty of flaws for you to poke at, though." She grinned at the male, hoping he didn't see just how hard it was to admit that or how embarrassed she was to have said it. Some things had to be put out there.
