The weirdness of the previous night aside, Lily woke up feeling energized and adventurous. She wan't to try something new and different, something exciting. Unfortunately it was Wednesday, which meant everyone was in school, or mainly Alex, her best friend whom she spent as much time with as she could.
She sighed sitting on the couch scrolling through her phone looking for someone who hopefully wouldn't be busy on a Wednesday morning. No. No. No, she repeated as she scrolled down until she saw Nate.
It was like a duh moment, Nate probably wasn't busy, unless he was helping Tony which doubted highly. So the text went out.
Quote: Rocking climbing today at 12. Meet me at the indoor outdoor center. Lunch is on me. Lily

Nate got the text message while he was eating his breakfast. Which was actually more like lunch, but he would have a different lunch at lunch and then something really filling for dinner. He ate a lot of food, and Tony often wondered where he actually put it, because he was a lean and muscular young man and bore no evidence of the terrible diet he kept.
Of course, being a senshi probably helped him with that, but that was his secret.
He was lounging on his sofa, his dad gone to work for the day as per usual. Dogby was home because it was bad out, and Tony didn't like taking her out when it was going to rain. He was very protective of that damn dog. When his phone rumbled he pulled it from his pocket, reading the text and grinning.
Indoor outdoor center it was. And free lunch? He was so there. She might regret offering to pay for it, though. Taking a shower and getting Dogby's food and water set up for her to be alone during the day, which he usually forgot to do.
Then he was off to meet Lily, arriving late to the center by almost fifteen minutes. That was early for him.

Lily of course got at the center at 12 and waited at the door. She really hadn't expected Nate to be on time, but it would have been nice if he had been. When she spotted him 15 minutes later, she shook her head, but walked over to great him.
"Hey, long time no see," she said arching an eyebrow at her friend, as if to say one would think you'd be on time, but she did not voice this.
She stuck her hands in her pockets, turned about face and headed into the center, "well come on then I'm sure you'd like to get to climbing the rock wall and doing whatever else they have in here. I hear it's a lot of fun."
Lily turned around backwards and walking into the center backward while facing Nate, "what have you been up to lately, huh, Nate? Anything interesting, anything fun?"

Nate grinned at her, tilting his head to the side as he always did. He didn't seem too fussed about being late, even proud of it. And why not? He knew she would be waiting for him: she had invited him, after all. This was her idea and if he was late or not she would not just give up and leave.
Following her into the space, he grunted in response to her pointing out it had been a while. She was right, they hadn't hung out for what felt like months, though Nate was sure it hadn't been that long. Things had just been so busy, a lot of stuff had been jammed into a shorter amount of time then should have been possible.
The younger Darrow looked around the center, never having come to it before. He hadn't thought about rock climbing, and certainly not inside. There were not real rocks inside, as far as he knew, let along a wall of them to climb on.
at least on that part he was wrong.
"You know me, always up to something," he said, laughing. For better or worse, that was true. "What about you? Not getting yourself in any messes without me there to clean up after you, right?"

Lily looked around too, she had been in before, it was some time ago for a birthday party and of course it had changed. At the time almost nothing could get Lily to do more than talk to the other kids and encourage them in there fun. She hadn't climbed the rock wall which had been painted to look like a mountain side and jutted out, at different points and went up at angle toward the ceiling, which colorful holdings places strategically about.
The building was as large as she remember and the rock wall was the same, and when you looked overhead at the far side of the wall the were two cords, which currently had a boy crossing and a couple other waiting to do so. Lily frowned, not scared of heights but not entirely certain she wanted to tackle it in her civilian form. The ropes ended at a fake tree, which hand lots of branches and one apparently had to climb down it. It even had a fake 'quick sand pit' one had to monkey bar across. All in all it was really just a cool indoor obstacle course.
There were other rooms, but Lily had not been into them the last time she'd been so she hadn't the slightest clue what was in them.
"I haven't been getting into any messes and I certainly don't need you to clean them up," she huffed slightly offended, but not really because she grinned after a moment and started to laugh.
"I've moved out of my parents house, started college currently on hold, and moved my best friend in with me. Life's been pretty busy for me, I even won money in a contest, though I haven't done anything with it."
She walked up to the counter, paying for the entrance into the center, or rather paying to use the center before looking to Nate again, "ready?"

That was good. Nate, or rather Chaonis, was really bad at cleaning up messes. Great at starting them, even better at making them far worse than they had to be, but cleaning them up? Only if that 'mess' was a fight, and he was 'cleaning it up' by punching someone in the face.
Then he could be call a janitor.
He liked teasing Lily. He knew, of course, she was perfectly capable of handling herself. He also knew she shared that knowledge. he only teased her because he could get away with it, and it was basically how he said hi these days. He snorted a laugh, which was mostly just an effort to keep a bigger one from starting.
It was easy to hang out with her, but he did have a persona to keep. He couldn't have too much fun, like a normal person, clearly.
"You could always give it to me," he said, when she mentioned the money. People who didn't know how to spend money baffled him, and he was sure he could put it to excellent use. Of course, she had never said she didn't know what to do with it, just that she hadn't yet, which was close enough for him.
He didn't try to stop her paying for their entry, either.
"Yeah, ready. No plastic wall of rocks is going to get the best of me." He had never been rock climbing, but he rationalized that because one of his favorite pasttimes was leaping off of buildings and scrambling back up them, he was probably in good shape. His cockiness would handle the rest.

Lily cocked an eyebrow at Nate, an expression not common for Lily, she then put her hand up to her mouth to try to hold in the laughter, but it spilled out anyway. "You say that as if it was just twenty dollars or something. I like you Nate, but I'm not giving you that much money."
She grinned moving toward the rock climbing section of the obstacle course looking over her shoulder briefly, "you can help me spend it though. I really don't know what to spend it on and who knows maybe you'll get a Christmas gift out of it."
She laughed and ran the rest of the way over to the wall, so that she could get the gear on, she felt kinda excited while she got all strapped in, rearing to go, "By the way Nate, I pretty sure the wall is mostly rubber."
She looked up the huge wall, now all strapped in with a, "So shall we race?"

Nate shrugged, shaking his head without any innocence attached to the gesture. He knew what he had meant, of course, and he grinned at her despite his best efforts to look oblivious to her accusation.
"I was just trying to be helpful, that's all."
It was surprising only in the sense that he wasn't the kind of guy who seemed to know the definition of that word. Helpful. The fact that he had used it in its proper context, though he was lying about it, was surprising enough.
He arched his eyebrow at her offer to let him help her spend it, pondering her meaning. He wasn't sure she meant it like he wanted her to, and having to go shopping sounded like a terrible idea to him. He hated milling around anywhere, always on the go, always looking for things to do. Trouble to get into.
"Rubber, plastic, whatever!" He was assisted into the harnesses, though he made sure to make a big show of insisting he didn't need them and flexing his muscles to prove it, then looked at Lily and grinned at her challenge. Sure, he'd never been rock climbing before but how was it different from climbing and jumping all over the place as a senshi? Besides not having the powered up perks.
Whatever, he was sure he'd still be great at it.
"Sure, let's do it."

Lily shook her head at Nate's helpfulness, but still she meant it about helping her spend it. She wasn't the best shopper so it was taking a long time to decide what to spend the money on. When she thought about it she wondered if she should be using it for stuff like this, but it seemed to her it should be something more special.
She laughed at his not really caring what the wall was made of, she was poking fun at him though and she was sure he knew that. She arched an eyebrow at Nate's flexing before he grinned at her challenge. She wanted to call him a ham, but she turned back to the wall and go ready to race.
"Ready," she said giving a nod, "okay then. On your mark." She started up the wall and then called out getsetgo sticking her tongue out at Nate with a bright grin. He was taller and no doubt stronger, but she was lighter so maybe she might actually beat him if she didn't fall. She was laughing and felt should would probably fall, but tried to pay attention. She just had to make it to the crossing ropes first and she would mostly likely win.

Nate focused on the race at hand.
There was some truth in the fact that he was not the most graceful person out there. though he was certainly reckless and fast, and did not mind putting himself in bodily danger by leaping off buildings and scrambling over fences, he did not exactly flow like water. He wasn't a parkour expert.
His style, like everything else, was dangerous and intense, but certainly not graceful.
So climbing a wall, while something that was certainly up his alley, might not be something he was good at doing fast and effectively. He had the body strength and the lack of fear for it, and that would help, but he also failed to think things through and would go for any handhold right in front of him, whether there was another one beyond it or not.
It would be interesting to see how things went for him.
He laughed at her head start and leaped at the wall to follow her up. He scrambled and hauled himself, using his height and reach to his advantage, but he was surprised by how tiring his tactic was. Still, he wasn't about to give up, and gave her a run for her money.

Lily couldn't help, but to laugh taking full advantage of her head start. She unlike Nate did pay attention to where her hands and feet were going making sure she wouldn't slip accidentally. Eleven years of ballet and even more of ballet she had plenty of practice making sure hand and feet were where they belongs. Not only that she didn't think she could really fall, but she didn't fancy finding out.
"Your going to fall," she taunted Nate, though it was hardly a taunt and sounded more like a cautious warning. Nope he wouldn't fall to great injury, but that didn't mean he couldn't be injured.
She mostly used her legs help her climbing the wall, her legs being much stronger than her arms and she probably looked more like a lizard or a spider than a monkey climbing up the wall. The crossing rope was up above, but she still had a little distance to go and she hadn't managed to really get away from Nate.
"Almost there," she said to him grinning.

She was probably right. The way he was going at it, it wasn't likely he was going to always find the foot and hand holds he needed. He would miss and he would fall: it only took one bad movement to do that to him.
Still, he was not going down without a fight, and he wasn't thinking that far ahead. If he stopped to do that he would definitely fall and where was the thrill in that? He was much better at taking it all as it came.
He'd deal with any crisis as it popped up. That was just his way.
Hauling himself up, he did eventually miss his grip and was sent spiraling down and away from the wall, holding on to the harness as the people below balanced his weight and started to pull on the rope. He grunted and grabbed the rope above him, then decided to cheat.
He swung himself toward her, swiping at her to try and catch hold of her and pull her from the wall. If he couldn't win, she couldn't either. That was his apparent game plan.

Lily was focused on climbing at the wall and as she hadn't expected Nate to pull what he pulled she wasn't paying attention. She was reaching for another spot to get a good hold when there was a shout from below and Nate grabbed hold of her.
"Nate," Lily shouted as she lost her footing and fell away from the wall. A tug on her rope kept her from falling all the way to the ground, but she was hardly paying attention to her being suspended in the midair as she glared at Nate.
"Really Nate," she said pouting, "... your just mad because I took a head start." She grinned not really mad even though her heart was still pounding from the shock.

"Well that was technically cheating," Nate said, grinning as they swung uselessly from the ropes, the people below grumbling about how dangerous kids played and the like.
Nate laughed and pushed her, letting her swing as they were being lowered back down. Neither had made it to the top, at least, which was good for Nate. It meant he hadn't really lost because the race wasn't completed.
He was just like a little kid. If he couldn't have it, no one could.
Once they were on the floor again, they were untied from the harnesses, given a lecture about using the equipment as it was meant to be used, and then shooed away from the area. He laughed and hooked his arm in Lily's, dragging her off with him.
"Guess we can't have a rematch. They seem mad for some reason."

Lily shook her head, "I didn't cheat. I just get a head start because your taller and ...," she stopped at being pushed as she started to cling to the rope, not liking the swinging anymore than the drop.
She glared at Nate for several moment before she found herself being helped out of her harness and lectured, which made her pout a bit, not liking having gotten into trouble, but really she should have expected it.
The fact that they were shooed away hardly matter because she found herself being dragged away by Nate, pretending like he didn't know what the attendants were mad about.
She huffed, but allowed herself to be led away. "You are so impossible sometimes," she mumbled before she started laughing, "I don't know why I put up with you."
She shook her head, straightening up a bit, "There's a pool here, but I doubt you brought swim trunks, so we'll have to check out one of the other rooms off to the side. You pick and we can have our rematch there," the last part she said while rolling her eyes before she smirked a bit.
