Grus loved being a cat.

At first, when she had felt the strange wind blow by, she didn't feel anything. She continued to stare off into the darkness of Destiny City. Then suddenly, it was as if she was sinking into quicksand. The world started to rise up around her and she let out a yell of confusion that quickly turned into a meow. When the world stopped moving, she had huddled on the ground, and then noticed the tail.

She had stared at it for a while, watching it twitch. Was that hers? The short, stubby thing was certainly attached to her body. Next came the paws, with a look mixed with confusion. She was a cat!? There was a few minutes of panic while she frantically searched for a mirror, or any type of shiny surface. When she found a piece of metal, her own blue eyes stared back at her through a set of whiskers. A gold star sat atop her forehead. SHE WAS A FREAKING CAT!

Now it was the next day. She had slept in the park, curled up next to a tree that had a pile of still red leaves around it's trunk. Red fur was not a typical cat color, so Grus decided that staying hidden was the best choice. Now she wasn't scared. She actually didn't mind being a cat at all. it was fun to go where she pleased, when she pleased, and to not really have any worries outside of how she was going to change back.

She was still in the park, lounging on a park bench in the weak winter sunlight that broke through the bare branches of the trees surrounding the bench. Fur was nice. It kept you warm, even in the chill of winter days.

Harmony was walking through the park in the fading light of afternoon. It was about two thirty and they only had about an hour or two left of light before night settled in. She was cutting across the park to get home after working at the library. She wasn’t really thinking about much but the triumph that she’d managed to make it through a day at the library without freaking out and she walked away with the books she needed. She’d even managed to start picking up her grades again. Which was good. The alumni at any college would not be impressed if she couldn’t manage to pick it up before she got Cs on her report card. Harmony did have ambition to go to college she just didn’t know what she wanted to be yet.

She paused when she passed by the cat sleeping on the bench. That in itself wasn’t unusual but she backed up to get a better look. “huh.” She’d never seen a cat with red fur before. And she’d only seen one other with a star on her forehead and that experience was a bit surreal for her still, even a day later. She knelt down to study Grus, reaching out to pet her, assuming she was friendly.

Well, aren’t you pretty?” she purred softly, running her hand down the kitty’s back. She was a sucker for cats. “And I suppose you’re going to want to talk to me, too, aren’t you?

This seemed to be the running occurrence in her week. Her month, even. Strange things just seemed to keep happening to her. She decided if she didn’t learn how to roll with it she’d end up going insane before she turned eighteen. She had no idea her mother was not keeping a life changing secret from her. And if she did she’d probably wish she didn’t. So she kept her focus on Grus cat and tried to warm up to her, thinking there must be a reason all these strange talking felines were appearing here at once.

I don’t suppose you’re hungry. It’ll be cold soon with night coming on and if I’m standing here and you can’t talk I’m going to feel really foolish.

One red ear flicked toward the oncoming human, and her right eye opened a fraction of an inch to see the youth approach. She considered running, and felt her muscles tense, but when the girl decided the napping cat warranted a petting, they relaxed again. That was one thing about being a cat that took some getting used to. Humans don't really pet each other, and so the first time a little girl came squealing up to her, she cringed. But now she rather enjoyed it.

Her eyes closed and then opened fully when the girl mentioned talking. She cast a glance at the girl, wondering how she knew about talking cats. had she met other cats before?

The mention of food brought a small rumble from her kitty stomach. She yawned, and weighed the chances. If she spoke, she got food. If she didn't, then she wouldn't get a chance to hang out with someone.

"I am a bit hungry." She said quietly, arching her back to the continued petting. "Though how you know about talking cats is a wonder to me!"

"I already met one." she responded softly.

Talking to a cat, any cat, was still kinda looked on a crazy by people passing by. Especially when the cat in question is Kool Aid red. Oh, well, maybe someone would assume she was dyed and not question it. But still, the talking thing...only crazy cat ladies spoke to their cats.

"Alright. I can take you home and make you some chicken, I think."

She knew how to cook in as much as she could make simple life preserving things. Chicken. Instant mashed potatoes. Rice. Any other things that required one or two step preparation. She left most of the cooking up to her mom or a convenient restaurant. Tonight she guessed it was on her.

She scooped the cat gently into her arms, making sure to support her properly, like a baby. Her house wasn't too terribly far away so there wouldn't be much in the way of travel time and in winter the park wasn't usually inhabited very much. Not that Harmony was worried about someone seeing them. In Wonderland no one thought twice about a talking cat.

Welcome to the life of Harmony Rosen: Adventures in Wonderland.

Grus shook her head, trying to imagine being a human and finding a talking cat.

Oh wait. She had done that once. And then the cat turned her into a senshi.....

Which reminded her that she hadn't seen ********* recently. The girl/cat wondered how the tail-less furball was handling herself.

The red cat allowed herself to be lifted. She was actually very ok with it. That was the nice thing about being a cat; most people wanted to pick you up. Which meant that she didn't have to walk everywhere. Down the street seemed a lot farther when you were a foot tall.

"So, you've met a talking cat before.' She stated, feeling the slight bounce in the girl's step. Her blue eyes kept looking about, making sure no one was in earshot. She didn't want this girl to get strange looks from anyone. "Did this talking cat give you anything? And what is your name?" Grus's usual chatty nature was beginning to come out. The words rattled off her tongue with ease. "I know you'll ask me mine, but I can't give you my real name. So We'll go with Grus. And I'm normally not a cat."

Wonderland was a familiar thing to Grus. When she was in human form, even civilian form, she often wondered if she should begin writing down her adventures. She could make a fortune selling the stories of a girl with powers that fought monsters and turned into a cat. It was almost as if she had eaten the cake that Alice had, the one that made you shrink. It had been that feeling before she realized that her appearance was distinctly feline.

All they needed now was a rabbit in a waistcoat.

"Give me something? Why would it give me something?"

Or what would it possibly give her? The more Harmony pondered the question, silent in thought, the more it confused her. She didn't know what gave senshi their powers. As far as she knew, and this was quickly becoming suspect, cats were house pets that refused to come when called and purred like the dickens when they actually let you pet them. Her and her mom had never owned one. She'd never asked why before. Her mother wasn't against cats as a rule but when it came down to it they'd just never owned one.

"Grus?" she commented, finding the name a funny word on her tongue. "I'm Harmony."

Marie hadn't normally been a cat, either. In fact, it was hard to imagine Marie as a cat even now. Everything about her was big from her personality to her body. She seemed to fill a large space without trying, even if she physically only took up a small portion of space. She wasn't much like the more demure kitty in her arms but maybe that was because they didn't know each other well enough yet. Harmony was still trying to get used to the idea that this sort of thing could be common place.

"We'll get you home and get you warm. You don't take up a lot of room. I'm sure mom won't mind you there. Her name's Kyndall."

And Kyndall seemed to be coming home later and later and that was clearly of some concern to her daughter. Especially since it often arrived without or with flimsy explanations. Thank God she didn't have to work at the coffee shop tonight and had done her time with Mr. Darrow already. If not things might get very awkward trying to juggle things.

"Just do me a favor and don't talk around my mom, ok?"

The feline shook her head, closing her blue eyes. "Oh it's nothing. Sometimes the cats carry things around is all."

So this girl wasn't a senshi. She didn't have the feel of a Negaverser around her either, so just a regular civilian then. If they were talking to regular people, just how many powered folk were cats right now? She hoped taht the Negaverse was affected by it too. Otherwise, they would be running rampant here in no time

"Yep, Grus. It's my code name in case I run into someone that I know when I'm human. Can't have everyone freaking out that I'm a cat right now."

But what had caused this? It was apparent that it didn't affect civilians, or this green haired girl would be a cat just like her. She felt a pang of homesickness when Harmony mentioned her mother. Oh how Grus wished she could see her mom! They were probably getting suspicious, and if the school hadn't called asking where she was, they would soon. Flyers had already begun to spring up, asking where various children were. Hoping that her family wasn't worried, she shook off the melencholy and focused instead on where they were going. Harmony was a nice person, and if this transformation was for an extended period of time, seh may need a place to crash that wasn't under a tree or in a bush.

"Your mom's not a fan of talking cats?" She asked with amusement. "Well alright. I wasn't planning on talking to anyone but other cats really. But since you already knew about us, I figured you were safe. Unless your going to sell me to a circus or something."

She laughed, which came out as a strange meow/purr.

"Mom's never met a talking cat before." she admitted softly while carrying Gruscat toward her home. She was pretty sure that was true but couldn't be completely sure now. Anyway, it didn't matter because she didn't seem interested in talking to people who didn't know about talking cats anyway. Harmony was meeting them right and left and most seemed to not have a clue as to why they were suddenly feline.

"Besides, the circus wasn't paying enough. The government on the other hand..."

It was a joke, clearly, by her tone. Perhaps a bad joke between two people that had never previously met before but Harmony was not the type of person to try and gain from other people's misery. That just wasn't who she was. She was occasionally snotty, occasionally melodramatic, and occasionally she upset people by her selfish attitude that she could not afford to piss off. But right now she was just thinking about a cute kitty being out in the cold alone.

No kitty should ever be out in the cold alone.

"We're almost there."

They live in a townhouse, squished between two other people. Miss Lowell next door and Mr. Thompson to the left. The bedrooms were upstairs and the basement down with the living areas on the main floor. Harm grew up with Mrs. Lowell as a babysitter while her mother worked. She loved her.

Grus cat laughed her weird meowing cat laugh at the mention of the government. "Some people are desperate for money." She said, turning to look over her shoulder and up at Harmony. "But I think that even if you were down to your last dollar, you wouldn't turn me over to the government." That would be a very bad place to spontaneously return to being a human. Plus all the needles.....they made her kitty skin crawl just thinking about them!

"Ok cool!" She said, attempting to mentally guess which place was hers. She was anxious to be inside a building for once, and out of the dang cold. While her fur was warm enough, the weak sun couldn't warm the edges of her that were cold all the time, like her toes. Plus carpet was so much better on her feet than dirt. The red cat immediately began casually searching her paws, making sure they weren't filthy. What bad manners it would be to drag dirt into this kind girls home.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 08, 2011 11:35 pm

"No. I couldn't do that."

They got to her house and she set the cat down while she unlocked the door. She explained the layout of the place as she did in case Grus wanted to take a nap or something while the chicken cooked. Thankfully Harmony had been taking care of cats since she was little and her mom knew not to question the occasional feline in her home. It was usually short lived as both girls were too busy to give any pet the attention it rightly deserved. Harmony had always wanted a pet but accepted a student with two jobs and a social life couldn't care for one properly.

"I'll go make the chicken. Make yourself at home. I can put some water down."

She meant in a bowl figuring a cat would have a hard time drinking from a glass. She tried to imagine being a cat and shuddered. Too much had happened to her recently to be able to fathom something else easily. She used to have such an active imagination. After what she'd been through too many things she imagined seemed like they could come true. This, for example, freaked her the hell out. People being turned into cats. She was cool with it as long as it wasn't contagious. It didn't seem to be.

"I can turn on the TV, too, if you want. We don't watch it much but we have cable."

The thought of chicken entered her mind, and everything else left. She was suddenly so unbelievably hungry that she almost forgot to check out the apartment. When Harmoney mentioned putting water in a dish for her, she mentally cringed with embarassment. She couldn't even drink out a glass! Damn not having opposible thumbs!

"That would actually be really awesome if you could do that." She said, checking out the furniture. It was comfortable and soft, perfect for a cat nap. She chose the top of the couch and curled into a red ball facing Harmony. Her blue eyes remained open, and she asked "So your mom really won't mind that a random red cat has just showed up at your house for a visit? I know my mom would be super confused." Talk of mothers brought a painful pang into her heart. She must be worried by now...

Pushing the thought and unhappiness away, Grus asked another question. "So when did you start talking to cats? I don't know many civilians that do that on a regular basis."
PostPosted: Tue Dec 13, 2011 2:23 pm

Harmony certainly didn't mind the red cat being around. She kinda liked the idea of a pet, not that Grus was one, certainly. She was clearly human being becoming feline. Harm set down a bowl of water for the kitty and set about making nice chicken cutlets for them both. Soon the pan was in the oven to cook and she came back into the living room to find Grus cat. There she could answer her question.

"She likes cats. Just don't talk to her and she'll be ok."

How could Harmony explain it? Fur dye? It could be natural...maybe. Ok, no not really. Oh, well, maybe her mom wouldn't be home until bed time. She could hope, anyway. She pet Grus idly with one hand, thinking about possibilities when her next question came and started the mint haired girl out of her thoughts.

"What?" It took her a moment to register what Grus asked. "Oh, yeah! Just recently have I started talking to cats, actually. And just one other besides you."

Civilians? Did she just get called a civilian? What was Grus, then? Military? She gave the cat a puzzled look but didn't ask any questions yet.

The couch was so comfortable! The cat in her wanted to stretch out and purr with contentment, moreso when Harmony started petting her. She was slowly drifting off while the green haired girl was lost in her thoughts until the human part of her brain grabbed ahold of her and shook her away. The only indication of the change in attitude was an idle ear twitch.

"Well I won't talk to her." Grus promised, stretching out a muscle in her front leg. "Maybe you can tell her I was being chased by a dog? Or some kids were coloring my fur and you saved me. Might explain for...the crazy colors." The truth certainly wouldn't do it.

She gave an equally puzzled look to Harmony when she tossed one the cat's way. What was confusing? Well besides the red cat that was really a human and spoke english...

"Yes?" She asked, trying not to tilt her head in confusion. That particular habit wasn't from being a cat. Even as a human she did that. It threw people off a little.

"I'll figure out something if she asks. She's not exactly a stranger to weird stuff happening around her."

She was referring to her own disappearance but if she knew how comfortable her mother really was in this fight she wouldn’t have been so calm. If she knew her mother was Shalott Harm wouldn’t have been comfortable with it. It was one thing to survive this thing but it was another to have her family so deeply involved in it, ongoing as it was. If she knew Grus was a senshi she might feel differently about her, too.

Why did you call me a civilian?

The use of the term, while accurate, bothered the girl in a way she couldn’t place. Hadn’t she been called a civilian before? In space? By Camelot? She didn’t remember clearly so she asked Grus to figure it out. The girl could be military for all she knew and then it would make perfect sense. She couldn't help being naturally suspicious. She'd just been attacked by an agent of Chaos recently and hadn't come out entirely unscathed. Not to mention what else she'd been through recently. It made her naturally suspicious of everyone now...possibly for a long time to come.

Oh.

Damn.

She'd called the girl a civilian! Why on earth did she do that? Maybe because she was perpetually stuck in a form of senshi mode. But she definitely hadn't been thinking, and let the lingo slip. Grus tensed, claws pricking the couch for a moment while she thought wildly about what she could say. Panic made her whiskers twitch.

"Well...you are one. I mean, I'm a cat. I..figured calling you a human would make it sound like I have always been a cat or something." The words tumbled out of her tiny mouth, tripping over eachother in her haste to put a band aid over the whole misstep. Her whiskers twitched again. Hopefully the girl would buy it. Otherwise she may have to find another place to stay. Or explain a lot of stuff.
