It had finally began to really sink in…she was a cat. A little kitty cat with ears, a stubbly tail and paws. Super Sailor Albireo…wasn’t very happy about this. She had spent some time with Eric—at least he had been nice about watching her…change into a cat. What was going on? Why was this happening?

The cat sighed and jumped onto a bench, stretching and digging her claws into the wood, letting out a contented purr as she did so. She felt so lazy…so ready just to…

To take a cat nap. Yup. That’s what she should do. That would make this all better. A nice, sleepy little cat nap…then she would find some place to stay for the night…Maybe she would try Merric’s place…did he like cats? Should she talk to him? Maybe she would just find a nice box or something to sleep in…

Oh well. Nap time. A cold breeze blew past and the cat curled up a little, wishing she had more fur then she ended up having. Oh well. Some fur was better than none.

Painite wandered down the street, a sandwich in hand. There was no reason for an agent of the Negaverse not to bring their food with them when they planned on staying out for long nights. And she was scoping out a few potential target locations, which meant she would be awake the entire night.

She had no intention of going into work tomorrow. In fact, she had no intention of going back to her job behind that desk at that ungrateful paper at all. She would find some place else to write.

She knew her aversion to the place did not just stem from her work load, but she didn't admit to what else it might be. Complicated emotions, memories she almost treasured but did not want to allow herself to. What was she thinking?

She tried not to. Not about that. Not about him, at the moment, though she knew if she got started she would start worrying about him. Go and find him, maybe, and then where would they end up?

Sighing, she moved to the bench and almost sat down before she notice the cat sitting there, curled up.

"Oh, kitty!" She said with surprise and an honest adoration. Damn fluffy animals, her greatest weakness. Of course, just by looking she could see it was no normal cat, but she didn't seem to let that phase her at all. "Aren't you cold out here?"

Albireo froze with the noise, then just stretched again before making an annoyed little noise. Who dared to disturb her slumber? Her much coveted cat nap? She looked up and blinked at who it was.

Oh no…it was that general. Painite. “Meow…” Perhaps she shouldn’t let Painite know she could talk, let her think that she was just a normal..blue cat. Yes. That made perfect sense…Maybe she would go away…or give her a nice bit of ear scratches…or keep her warm! Yes…she was cold…

She nodded her head up and down. “I am cold…very much so…” Well, hopefully…Painite wouldn’t ask who she was…and she won’t become a shish-ka-kitty…

Mmm…Ear scratches did sound very nice.

Painite had met guardian cats before. Her own team's, the other team's. Didn't really matter to her, in the end. She found she adored them either way, and did not really have it in her to harm them. Oh, sure, she could scare them and hold them hostage when necessary, and say mean things to and about them, but when it came down to it...

they were kitties.

She stroked the cat with her hand gently, paying attention to her ears and head, finding her fur very cold to the touch. It was a cool evening, and Painite shook her head, moving to pick the cat up without asking for permission. She didn't miss a beat as it spoke to her, already knowing that it wasn't a normal cat and not caring one way or the other.

She sat down on the bench and put the kitty in her lap, putting the bag of her lunch next to her.

"Let's warm you up," she said, shaking her head. "Why aren't you sleeping some place warm? Aren't you supposed to have some home to go to?"

Albireo stiffened as she found herself in Painite’s lap, and her claws—claws! She had claws…and they could hide and stuff…that was quite a cool thing. Her claws had come out and she drew them back in and let out a little purr.

“Well…I didn’t ask to be a cat, so I haven’t found anywhere where I could go.” She snuggled closer to Painite, enjoying the warmth from her lap.

“Have you ever heard of people being turned into cats, because I really didn’t think this was something that happened often…and I miss being a person…though…”

She let out a little mewl and stretched then looked up at Painite. “I like you better when you’re nice like this.” Maybe this would change her opinion on the general. Maybe. Doubtful, but maybe.

Painite felt bad for the poor little kitty, and immediately wanted to adopt it. She wouldn't get away with that, though, and she knew it. Still, the poor thing! It needed some love and cuddles ASAP.

Luckily, the Negaverse General was fully stocked on those.

"I haven't heard of that before, no, but I guess anything is possible. At least you're not a dog, right?" She much preferred cats to any dogs, really. Some were smaller and cute, but none compared to the fluffy adorableness that cats knew how to wield with deadly intention.

Death by cute.

"You like me better? So I know you, do I?" She looked at the cat, trying to place who it was. The colors and markings should have given her more of a hint but her mind was not adjusted to trying to put people she knew into cat bodies. She was shuffling through the rollodex of her mind, but nothing was matching.

"Are you going to make me guess where we met before? Obviously, if you like me better now, we didn't get along at first. That's a start."

The truth was…she was afraid to tell her. What if Painite decided she didn’t want to keep cuddling her…she liked the cuddles, and the pettings, and…

“Well, normally.” She looked up at her with her big green cat eyes. “You call me ‘Duckie’. I’m Sailor Albireo on…well…normal days. Please don’t hurt me. I’m just a cat right now. Okay?”

She gently rubbed against the general, purring loudly, hoping this could distract the woman from…well, deciding it didn’t matter if she was cute and fluffy now…but…she didn’t want her to be mad! She could forgive and forget…if there were lots of ear scratches involved.

Mmm…ear scratches…

Painite looked down at the senshi turned cat and frowned. This was a problem. She should hate this cat. But she didn't. She thought her particularly adorable, in fact. Small and her colors were pretty, though now she could certainly place the colors and patterns, an image of that annoying senshi she loved to terrorize clear in her head.

It wasn't in Painite to hurt a cat.

"Well, unless you claw at my face or make me want to hurt you, I think we can come to a truce of sorts. At least for tonight. No promises past today."

The Negaverse General knew that was probably the wrong decision but she liked it, and she wanted to just enjoy the night and the company of a cute kitty. She smiled, which must have been a strange expression for Albireo to see on her. It wasn't devious, after all, or malicious.

She continued to scratch her behind the ears and stroke her fur, telling herself that the senshi wasn't her normal enemy now because she was acting so much like a cat. Clearly there was something more going on here, and killing the cats before they figured it out was not the answer.

That was good enough for Painite.

Albireo continued to purr like a motorboat, eyes closed in pure contentment. “Mmm I’m not going to hurt you. Promise. Why hurt the ones that gives ear scratches, right? Besides…You’re really nice like this.”
Maybe they could be friends one day. Huh.

Her eyes opened and she nuzzled against Painite’s hand. How strange. Changing into a cat could turn even the meanest and scariest of enemies into someone that…Albireo wanted to be around.

“Painite…do you like any senshi? Like…the ones that help protect the earth…that Zinkenite told me about?”

It was an easy enough question…she hoped. She wasn’t sure what kind of an answer she wanted…but she knew…that if she got a good one…it would change her view on Painite just a little bit more.

"I like some senshi," she said, at length. She wasn't sure she wanted to engage in a question and answer session, but maybe Albireo wouldn't remember anything by the time she turned back into a prancy, dancy senshi again.

And Painite would want to stab her once more. Back to normal.

"I like the ones I know I can trust. Just because someone has chaos in them doesn't mean they're on our side. I'll work with whoever I have to, to accomplish my goals, but since I haven't made any friends with these new folks I think I'll stick with the corrupted ones."

She loved her corrupted senshi. The dark ones she hadn't gotten too familiar with, and would have to build her opinion of through more interaction.

And of course, she hated all White Moon Senshi. And not just because she 'had to' because they were enemies. She hated them because it was fun. She hated them because she believed in her cause. And she hated them because she hadn't met one that had changed her all encompassing opinion of them just yet.

Albireo wrinkled her nose, then just shook her head, nuzzling Painite’s hand once more, before looking up at her. “Corrupted…makes it seem like you are in the wrong, don’t you think?” Being corrupted…that just sounded bad. Like, being brought down into darkness.

“Dahlia calls it becoming ‘enlightened.’ I think I prefer that term. It makes you all seem like better people, I think.” The cat just gave a little yawn, then nestled closer. “I don’t think I hate everyone in the negaverse. Zinkenite seems really…understanding, I suppose. And I adore Dahlia. She’s fun to pet. Well…she is when I’m not a cat too.”

Albireo hoped that things wouldn’t go back to normal between Painite and herself now. Maybe she’d have one less thing to fear with this stupid senshi job. Painite had always been the scariest thing out there. A real creep, prowling the night.

"That's an old argument," Painite whined, "but the way I see it, if you want to call me the bad guy, I'm more than happy to play it for you. I don't care, personally, if you white mooners like Chaos, or think corrupted means evil, or whatever else. Play with words all you want. As long as I have my team, and we're fighting for our ideals, I don't care what our enemies think of us."

And playing the bad guy was fun. She knew, in her heart and soul, that she was doing the right thing, that she was on the right side, the good guy in the end, and everything would be justified when their goals were accomplished. She knew that the senshi were the villains, the invaders, and no matter what the negaverse had to do, they did it for a greater good. So she liked to kill knights, and had a lot of fun scaring the hell out of senshi and civilians alike. They all but asked her to do it.

And who was she to disappoint?

She wondered about the Enlightened thing, and wasn't sure she liked that word. A bit too cultish for her, though she knew a lot of people in this Chaotic order could be called exactly that. As could most of those senshi and knights, with their harping.

Sitting quietly now, she just stroked Albireo kitty, planning on leaving her once the cat fell to sleep. Since that's mostly what cats were best at.

It didn’t take long before the cat was doing just that. The gentle petting and the warmth the general provided had lulled Albireo to sleep, though she was still purring, like a quiet motorboat. Maybe she’d like to just stay a cat forever…someone could get used to this. A nice warm lap to sit in all the time, and nice gentle pets all the time too.

She couldn’t find anything bad about it. Not one thing.

Perhaps though. The most enjoyable part about this was her mind wasn’t troubled by any stupid stuff. There was no concern for what she had done, what she would do. There was only the wanting for more petting, and the enjoyment of the warmth.

So she slept.

Painite smiled as the kitty fell to sleep in her lap, finding it fairly cute. She knew that they would be on even ground again, hunter and prey, when things were back to normal. And she was sure they would be. These cats couldn't stay this way forever, right?

She carefully put the cat down on the seat, petting her one more tie for good measure.

"Sleep sweet," she said to her little duck, who happened to be a cat. Then she got up and made to leave, teleporting away and hoping that no one came to hassle the cat as she slept. Painite didn't think it was too strange, being nice to her enemies or her targets, civilians or senshi, when things were different like this.

It was no fun picking on cats or kids, that had always been her motto.
